2:07 pm
nothingis talking like was done. i guess they did some good but they had eight years. she keeps saying we have to do this. why didn't you do it when you were in the office? does that make sense? host: what do you think about what you heard from her? take over a, she is looking at infrastructure. she is looking at the economy. maybe there could be areas of compromise. it seems like trump was giving and all of branch. i'm watching him. i wonder to see what she was going to say. she did not extend the olive branch back to him. she criticized him. what was your other question? just compromise. infrastructure, trade. know what
2:08 pm
infrastructure. infrastructure. eight years, what did they do? trains updated? what? transparentut being , lois lerner wasn't transparent. what do you think -- >> what do you think. ,> you heard the leader there they stop the assault on pre-existing conditions. >> this is what gets me. i heard the president say we accept it. acceptublicans say we pre-existing we are not going to touch social security. he said we are working on a plan
2:09 pm
that will begin -- be good. they asked how he was going to do it. lot ofke trump for a things but the guy is a dealmaker. i would want him working for me any time. look what he is doing with china . i think he could do a great deal . he talked about lowering the cost of drugs. obama did not do it for eight years. he is doing it now. host: ok. program know. let me clarify, charlie cook, the publisher and editor of the are lyrical report, we going to cover his postelection analysis talking about where the party won and why. that will be on c-span two. the news conference that will , we arehis evening waiting for the democratic leader in the senate, chuck schumer will remain the minority

2:11 pm
wondering if what we just heard was verbiage and if we are going to have the ultimate battle with investigations and everything else behind the scenes. it raised my eyebrows. wasally hope what we heard honest and sincere remarks to the american people at large. a divided country cannot stand. you heard their say if there are investigations we are going to -- we are going to know what we are doing and do them right. >> and i heard the president react to that before she said it. nation going to get through to years of gridlock? it is going to be insane if we deal with a radical agenda
2:12 pm
undermining our constitution at large. that is what worries me. it is not even about one party versus another. it is what is best for our country. a tweet inut out reaction to the exchange the president had. the statement reads, this president's ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far. they are disturbingly un-american. president trump has made it clear he does not respect a free press. a free press is vital to mock received. we stand a hind jim acosta and fellow journalists everywhere. and a tweet from others. april ryan says the president heard my question about voter suppression. i stood up and asked. he told me to sit down. i went back up and said you did
2:13 pm
not answer my question on north dakota and georgia. he challenges me. out manyt the tweeting thanks to my friend for defending him. hello, deborah. >> thank you for taking my call. as i sit and watch the president , itrade the news media brought tears to my eyes to see the president of the united states act like a two-year-old child having a tantrum. i've really appreciate your program for bringing things out. the last caller, i don't think the media did anything wrong. it was the president all the way. thank you. god bless. host: art, a republican. caller: hello. i'm calling in regards to your
2:14 pm
first caller. pressnot think the treated trump like they treated for low c. but that is the way they treat trump. at any rate i am calling mostly on immigration. i never hear anything about this probably 2 billion people throughout the world who would love to emigrate to the united states. or allow into our country legally a million every year. understand. should we bring them all in at once? or should we have it organized like now? how did you vote yesterday? was your vote motivated by
2:15 pm
immigration? it was aboutof immigration. most of it was on the thatanding jobs at -- job trump has done. i voted republican. >> to you agree with what the president is saying immigration? >> 100%. we have to stop illegal immigration. we have a legal system. it is a crime for them to come in. maybe a petty crime but still a crime. and the money. millions of dollars that we have to spend on these illegals when they get into our country. honestcheating our farmworkers that belong to our unions out of their wages because the farmers are hiring the illegals under the table. >> ok.
2:16 pm
let's give you an update on a number of races. california.n with in that race, in the golden of what isiven idea happening, duncan hunter, who has been under a legal cloud, his race was just called here. he won by a wide margin in this race against his democratic opponent. afternoon, this another race was just called in montana. 52-45%. he holds onto the seat for the montana at large speech in that state. in minnesota, the phrase has been called as well.
2:17 pm
wins over his democratic opponent 50 to 49.8%. minnesota's first district. those races just called. hello, ellen. for havingnk you this program. i want to make a couple of points. we all have a responsibility to be involved in our government. a is not just -- we have responsibility to vote. but also to stay involved. --re are three fall line phone lines producing called senators. we all need to be involved. the infrastructure bill in south carolina, we got to study our recent history here.
2:18 pm
the infrastructure bill was part of the block on obama's agenda. that had tohing pass the house and the senate. initiatives of the obama administration. block, a decision to block anything on obama's agenda. that nod be bothered by matter what party. i watched president trump's press conference today. president was not respectful for much of the conference. he did ok at some points when he stayed on script. i thought the reporters. the reporters conducted themselves very well. att: i'm going to leave it
2:19 pm
that. jon tester is speaking. we will go to that now. >> early 2007. i am not a veteran. that welt it important staterom veterans in this . i will never forget the first meeting. upad a vietnam that stand and say you are not going to treat this group of veterans like we got treated. i took that to heart. -- y day [cheers] 12every day for the past years i have thought of that man . we have done everything we can do. we have more to do to live up to the promises we made. the fight is not over yet for the man that is you it -- is retired u.s. army.
2:20 pm
not just democrats. republicans and independents, libertarians working together the same way my grandparents did . they built that red barn, working with their neighbors. did.way our parents that is what makes this country great. i would love to tell you this country is on the cusp of all coming together but it is not. it may be more divided today than yesterday. i don't know. we need to work together in this country. we need to hold people accountable for their actions. we need to make sure we move forward in a way that we have
2:21 pm
the strongest middle class ever. it has been the in the of the world and will continue to be the envy of the world if we have policies that make sense for our middle class and small businesses. that includes making sure we have public lands and access to making sure they are there for our grandkids. that includes taking care of our veterans. it includes making sure health insurance is affordable. making sure folks with pre-existing can stay on policies. these are issues we all need to come together on and fight for. and work to make this country a better place. mattt to congratulate rosen dell on a hard-fought race. this was a tough race. it broke records both when it is
2:22 pm
all said and done in the number of people who voted and the money spent. an unprecedented amount of money was spent in this race. it saw the president of the united states come here 4 times. it saw his son come here probably that many times. the vice president three times. [cheers] >> montanans spoke loud and clear about the direction they want montana to go in the direction of our state. montana ends know the challenges we face. needed.s know what we to make sure we compete in the 21st century. quite frankly, i hope the .resident comes back many times. i do. not for political rallies.
2:23 pm
to see the challenges we have in our state. to take a look at that clinic in montana to see how undersized it is. here in great falls, to see how undermanned it is. under one amend it is. to take a look at the broadband service not only in indian country but throughout our rule areas. it needs to be there. so, hopefully that will happen. in the meantime i can assure you weverybody that is watching, need to get some things done in washington dc. we need to work together and put aside political pettiness and work together to get things done. north, south, east, west, the people i have talked to, the biggest issue they bring up is
2:24 pm
why can't you guys work together? we can. and we will. because theen american people are demanding it. no more divisive politics. in the an opportunity next six years to do some good work. i mentioned the issues. , making sure that we have government accountability and a transparent government. reducing the money that goes into these races. these are bipartisan races. saymately i just want to thank and each everyone a a few. you should be sleeping. but you are not. i want to say thank you, god bless you. god bless america. [cheers]
2:25 pm
>> now, look. sleep -- il 12 hours would love to say that. if you have questions i would be happy to try and answer them. >> you talk about working together. it became quite personal. how do you go forward? up, toads that we put ads. we did that by johnny iversen who called me and wished me the best. he's a classy guy. we set that example. same thing with mike, he is a good man. working with mike you get things done. leadership isn't about being an
2:26 pm
go. leadership that -- leadership is about leading. leadership is about working for the common good. democrats, libertarians. find the areas you agree on and work on them. an issue we disagree on, we put in the closet. at the end of the day, there is nothing in the closet. >> some voters were considering this a referendum on president trump. do you think that is fair? >> i am not a political analyst. i will tell you i have done this ofee times and we called all these races at 11:00 in the morning. that is all i know. >> how does that strengthen the senate majority affect your job?
2:27 pm
>> i think that the fact of the lostr is the people -- i some friends in this. claire mccaskill. you move on. i'm sure there are some good people i'm going to be able to meet that will be able to find common ground with. that is just it. go ahead. >> matt rosen dale? >> it is pretty early. it will probably happen but in time. >> is there a message you hope comes out of this race? i'm not saying necessarily a negative one. just a message in general. >> that montana is a special state. montanans are people that speak loud.
2:28 pm
i think they vote for people. >> one more. >> you mentioned the senate majority. there has been talk about the blue wave. now what do you say about that? >> i think the state of montana. i can't thank them enough. we have worked hard at this job. my daughter talked about that. my other daughter talked about that. this is not a job that is a picnic where you are on paid vacation. you strap on every day and put you shoulders back and if work hard you can get some things done. we have tried to work hard and we have gotten some things done. thank you all. jon tester in montana
2:29 pm
securing a third term. vote. by 39% of the interestingly jon tester one by the same percentage point back in 2012. this was the state the president won with 56% of the vote. jon tester able to win by 7000 votes over his republican opponent. here is the story from the great falls tribune. the unprecedented amount of money. record $60race at a million, that race. the balance of power, republicans maintain control with 51 seats very democrats with 46, caucusing with them. right now they are still waiting on results in arizona and
2:30 pm
florida. when those results are known we will bring them to you. we are waiting to see how those races are called. in florida senator nelson conceded. then the race became closer as they continue to count votes. an automatic recount has been triggered in the state of florida. we are waiting for chuck schumer of new york. he is expected to hold a news conference after last night's results. and his party will stay in the minority in that chamber. their counterparts on the house side will be in the majority. as soon as he comes to the podium, we will bring you there. we will try to, if we can, get in another phone call or two while we wait for senator schumer.
2:31 pm
let's go to lisa in st. petersburg florida. hello. myler: thank you for taking call. i was going to mention that the call has not been -- it has not been called in florida like you just mentioned. a recount.ing so, even though scott claimed victory, that is not the case and they are doing a recount. florida, you know, was such a 50-50 split race. you can see the divide. about florida, desantis has his work cut out for him immediately on the horrible environment and what is going on right now. as the house being taken over by the democrats, we need a president.on the
2:32 pm
even though he started out acting presidential today in his news conference, he quickly went downhill. really, igration thing putting kids in cages, taking puttingm their parents, them intense because his friends profiteer because they were behind these tents, it's all wrong. even sending the military to the border was a stunt. they are still a thousand miles away. host: given what you just said about how the president acted at the news conference, do you want democrats to work with him? caller: they have to work with get more things
2:33 pm
done on the environment, get things done with immigration. he has to work with them, is more the way i see it, because he doesn'tor him -- have the final say anymore. he talks about were -- about obama not getting this done or that done, well, he had the republicans blocking him. the environment is extremely important. he mentioned this in his conference, that it was important to him, so he cannot go back on that now. he needs to bring up the environmental protection agency and start working on it. even of he claims we are the best in the world, he is not being honest. that's what i get tired of with saying florida has already
2:34 pm
been called and georgia has already been called -- not true. so, yeah. this false information is what bothers me about him. road, hen he is out on the he mocks acting presidential like he was acting somewhat today. and why he thinks it's a position to mock is beyond me. host: i'm going to leave it there so we can get in a caller from california. again, we are waiting for chuck schumer to come out and give his perspective. go ahead, pat. caller: thanks for taking my call. i am an independent now. i was a republican. was on tv mcconnell
2:35 pm
saying it that in the obama years they were going to block everything he did, that really bothered my heart because that is a slap in the face to democracy. thedn't vote for obama first time, but i did vote for him the second time hoping they would actually work together. ha, but i tried. was a republican, and now i am an independent because i cannot stay with a party that is so obstructive and at seen. i wish the american people would mean,at people say -- i see what people do rather than what they say. huge numbers of people went out there and said i am for covering people with pre-existing conditions, and yet they have makeed against having to
2:36 pm
insurance companies cover pre-existing conditions. that really annoys me. how did you vote in the senate race question mark did you vote for dianne feinstein? caller: i did, and it was hard. [laughter] host: why was it hard? caller: because i have been a republican my whole life. feel like the party abandoned me rather than me abandoning the party, do you know what i'm saying? it was very different. all right, pat in california. patrick is next in florida. hi, patrick. you taking myiate call. while i have been sitting waiting, the last couple of phone calls you have had have been very on point. the reason i picked up the phone about half an hour ago was because there was a gentleman on there who kept saying the same thing over and over.
2:37 pm
well, obama had eight years, obama had eight years, obama had eight years. what the hell are they listening to? he had two years. 2010 came in, they took over the senate and the congress, they made the promise just like that woman said that he would block -- they would block everything he put up. they blocked the rail system where i live. they blocked medicare where i live. they block everything in the world. somebody has done the research and i am sure you know about it. the first four years of obama's administration, there were more filibusters announced than the total from george w. bush to george washington. including the years of the 1960's when we were in the worst turmoil this country has ever seen. how can you have more filibusters in four years against one president and then stand up and say well, they don't want to work with us, they are hypocritical, they are doing
2:38 pm
this and that, and obama had eight years. doesn't this man know the facts? he can have his own opinion, but you can't have your own fax. the facts are the republicans were doing nothing but of structuring. and then to get on the stage like they do today, the hypocrisy is mind-boggling, that they can say democrats are resistant. kidding me.o be you have to have them as big as grapefruits to be able to stand there and say that knowing what everybody else knows. host: patrick, what motivated you to vote? caller: again, i am in florida. it's a very, very sticky place here. and i voted democratic straight down the ticket. and i don't usually. i am a union man, retired now, and i have voted many times for republicans because personally, republicans have been much better to the space program over
2:39 pm
the 50 years i have watched it. but there are occasions i vote democrat and occasions i vote republican. an open-mindedlf liberal. i am not way over to the left, a socialist. i am not a way over to the right nationalist. i am in the middle. just like that woman in california said she had to give up being republican and voted feinstein, i did the same thing as a democrat. i have a vote of both sides, but i cannot stand people who will get on stage or a platform like this and barefaced lie. that man said oh obama -- host: we heard it, patrick. we heard it. let's go to cynthia, a main street republican. hello. caller: thank you for taking my call. i want to say something to everybody just in general. i hope all the callers are honest about their party affiliation. honest inverybody is
2:40 pm
the public side or the political end, too. leading questions by correspondence should be eliminated. it's hard for people to understand six part questions and the language. opinion by media over bears the facts, including what i am watching today. who are the independents question mark nobody knows. it's a two-party system. those are the worst ones i hate -- dislike. hate is a bad word. that'll ground states. fight for you. battleground states. fight for you. it's very competitive. combative.at -- very you've heard of for years. greed versus the needy. new immigrants versus citizens. justice, none for victims or just us.
2:41 pm
wealthy judicial employees, taxpayer paid. prisons, taxpayer paid. out fires in california, strong backs. employees of locals are generally democratic because they have taxpayer paid very good benefits. in stockton, georgia, an independent. lenny, good afternoon, you're on the air. lenny in stockton, georgia. lenny.t call for all right, we will go to marcia in cape coral, florida, republican. how did you vote yesterday? caller: i voted straight republican. host: ok. caller: i have a comment to make about the president's speech. i thought he did very well. of course, when you have the press stand up and try to catch him in conflicts and get him upset, i can see where the
2:42 pm
president would be a little bit handleand he tries to the press as best as he could, but for two years he has been taking an awful shellacking from the liberal press. i no longer watch any of the main channels. i only watch foxnews because that's where i hear the right -- exactly what is going on. anyway. i listened to the president's speech today and then i listened to pull ocs speech. what jumped out at me was -- nancy pelosi's speech. what jumped out at me was -- host: we have to leave it there and send it over to chuck schumer. mr. schumer: i have been in this gallery for four weeks. it's sort of cold turkey. few i heard the president a hours ago, i could not believe my ears. i thought it
