wasson is with us and he is a congressional reporter with bloomberg news. now that the president has signed the two week extension of government funding, not much time left. december 21 of for the house and senate have to figure out how to result their different since and avoid a shutdown -- their differences and avoid a shutdown. trump'sson: president demand for border wall funding is one of the biggest differences. at $5mand is sitting now million for the current fiscal year. congressional republicans are trying to talk him down to $2.5 million this year and $2.5 million next year. chuck schumer has rejected that. all eyes are on tuesday when nancy pelosi and chuck schumer will sit down with the president to try to come up with a deal. congressional lawmakers are hoping to have a deal this week hammered out in principle and use the following week to pass it through the house and senate or to miss at christmas time

deadline. host: how much room does each side have to give? nancy pelosi saying this is a line in the sand. where do the democrats stand? erik wasson: that was a key comment from nancy pelosi at the end of the current week when she talked about the need to not have a trade-off for daca and the wall. the idea of protecting the young undocumented immigrants from deportation. there was a deal on the table in january that they would be protected and $25 million would be provided for the wall. president trump backed away from that deal. there was a lack of trust between democrats and the white house now. that no longer seems to be an option. otherwise, the best way to skin the cat would be to find money for border security, fencing, levies and other ways of preventing people from crossing the border without making a concrete wall. it has very much become a symbol of racism for the people on the left. issue we will see

on the senate side with senators expecting to debate next week a yemen.aling with a resolution i should say. that would end the support of saudi forces against yemen. , a piece.com in fact of reporting about that -- how that ties into the murder of journalist jamal khashoggi with the headline on bloomberg saying "senators seek path to punish saudi prince for the jamal khashoggi killing." it seems like a distinction. erik wasson: there is a lot of wrangling about this. the war powers resolution, only 51 votes to get on the bill and it is likely it will get on the bill in the coming week. there is a lot of concern about what is being called a vote-a -rama. and senator corker was think that the house is not going to pass this and the president will

bill can provide. there is a lot of worry that when the democrats take over the house that they will try to expand food stamps and bog down the farm bill. republicans said, let us get it done. they are still waiting for congressional budget office scores. there is a lot of ways to do that in the bill. i am expecting it to pass before the end of the bill. host: one more item. it has a firm a bipartisan support. the effort on criminal justice reform. it is generally over in the senate, where does it stand? erik wasson: the big question is mitch mcconnell. he has stood in the way of it moving forward. president trump has not used his bully pulpit. different presidents might be able to browbeat the senate majority leader on the floor. there is some talk of providing for it in the spending bill. i don't see a big change making it onto the bill.
