we are joined by a politico reporter. he has passed an aid package, so why are they taking up a revised measure and what changes were made? the measure passed way back in january before the midwestern flooding. the senate battled a lot, over puerto rico aid and the inflammatory back and forth on that. by the time the senate took that up, the flooding had occurred lawmakers, the back-and-forth of the puerto rico aid, said the democratic plan doesn't have aid for the midwestern floods, and the democrats were like, duh, because the floods had not happened when we passed the bill and you drag your feet so long. now the house is taking this extra step of passing this amended bill, even though it really includes the bones of

what they already took up before, basically as a way to say that we are still focused on this fight, this is our latest legislative offering, in case you forgot what we are seeking in terms of legislative language, as the senate works out a way to get its version passed. >> on this latest co-round on disaster aid, what have you heard from house republicans leaders on potential support for the measure this time? >> well, it will definitely pass the house. the question is what will happen with the version that they are working out behind closed doors. lke i s -- like i said, the bones of it will likely be the same but, there is debate on what will happen with puerto rico aid, and stipulations on what kind of oversight measures will be implemented there in terms of making sure puerto rican officials spend the money

in a way federal officials think is not a waste of money. >> you and your political colleagues writing about that, senators near a deal on disaster aid with trump on board, with, a picture of georgia senator david perdue. what has been his role in this discussion and negotiation, and what is left to be done on the senate side before the deal is sealed? >> senator perdue has been talking to the president frequently for the last several the president, as to dug in on extra aid puerto rico, which has sunk the senate support. we had test votes on this earlier this year and neither was successful, so the democratic and republican plans failed. leader mcconnell said that we will pull these from the floor and let people figure this out behind closed doors, and in the

meantime things only got more heated in the debate over puerto rico aid. the president tweeted as recently as last month insults against puerto rican officials, saying that they were incompetent and they just take from the united states, to the who saidf democrats, they will not pass a "racist bill." in the meantime things have only gotten messier. this is one of the most politically charged legislative fights of president trump's presidency so far, and one of the biggest congressional fights besides the shutdown, so that is what has dogged this. right now behind closed doors, the final text of basically what both chambers will hopefully be able to pass in the next few weeks is being hashed out right now, and talks are expected to continue over the weekend between the four top spending

$17 billion federal aid package, disaster aid package, and the president's last week asked for another $4.5 billion in emergency funding for the border. how does all this, could all this affect the appropriations process, lawmakers really want to get this disaster aid package out of the door. it has languished so long that there is money in here for disasters that happened in 2017. buyers that happened in november. people are waiting on all of this money. behindre communities because they have not gotten this cash. atlantic hurricane season starts on june 1. the side that is getting tangled ,p in the spending process is the more time they take to do
