app. is deputy editor for the military times. plans to take up its defense policy bill, what are some of the key priorities? >> there are quite a few issues dealing with military housing. a lot of folks have been following that issue. a lot of issues have arisen. this is going to put $300 million towards that program.

a lot more planes, ships. of $750 --top line $750 billion in spending. than congressional democrats have been looking for. the armed services committee has marked up one $17 billion less. to be a key point as these move forward. >> as the senate version hits the floor, who should we be watching? some of the key issues they are going to be talking about? enough -- he will be laying out what the priorities are. pass a committee with bipartisan support. jack reed has made arguments

about why this is good. ,n terms of the lower spending it will be interesting to see who in the democratic side steps forward and argues this may be an excessive bill. house side is more in favor of it. it is always a tricky balance. you don't want to be seen as someone opposing money for the troops. at the same token, and is a lot of money. a way to balance those priorities. >> the senate working on the policy side of things. as the house takes up its through it did not go committee. to a partyline vote, 21 hour session.

you have mentioned some of the differences. what are some of the differences you can think of between the house and senate versions? >> a lot of what we saw was the kind of things we are going to see when the house and senate versions come together. taxes ont over nukes. theer security and whether president can move money around again. fights over one ton of obey. whether that facility should be used in that way. this is something even with the policy differences, manages to get out of committee. year, very partyline. only two republicans voted for it. 21 hours is a long time to be debating. lots of this agreements and

heated discussions about what comes next. these bills come together? sitting the scene for the summer. getting the funding to match the priorities. but the whiteess house. question. the there is such a difference right now. debating this bill. $733 billion for defense. there are questions about how many democrats will see that as too much. a lot of republicans see that as too little. they think it should be 750 billion dollars in spending. the way they want to structure it is to hide money in overseas contingency funds.
