what went into getting this legislation to the senate? guest: the legislation had bipartisan support but there were two senators holding it up. rand paul from kentucky and senator mike lee from utah. was week, what happened gillibrand starts to pass this through unanimous consent on the senate floor. these two senators held it up. on thursday, they reached a compromise. these two senators were allowing amendments tomorrow. assuming they would be voted down, then the bill would go to full passage in the senate and it is expected to pass. host: you mentioned jon stewart, formerly of the daily show. how much influence did he and the first responders, how much influence did they have? guest: jon stewart has made this his passion project. he started it when he was the host of the daily show, and in the years since, he has forged friendships with these first

responders and they have turned to him for his leadership as well. he has come to congress times to push these lawmakers for action and these first responders have come to the whole so many times, asking for help. many of them sick, many of them dying, on oxygen tanks and wheelchairs, and they have offered very emotional testimonials to get this through, and in fact, jon stewart had a very viral video moment last month before the house judiciary committee, when he essentially said shame on you for not getting this done, and it really from these lawmakers -- sprung these lawmakers into action. host: what is president trump's take on this bill? guest: he is expected to pass it. senator schumer has said, you know, in both chambers, they expect to have a veto proof majority. if something strange happens, and president trump vetoes it, it would still get through, according to senator schumer. host: we will keep looking for
