detention. and another measure setting standards on medical treatment of those caught at the border. the senate returns monday. live coverage on c-span 2. the house returns tuesday. live coverage on c-span. ferris from politico joins us. the house got there done, passing the continuing resolution through november 21, but with a september 30 funding ,eadline facing congress negotiators continue off the floor. the senate will take up some of the -- will take up the cr in the coming week. what are the issues lawmakers have to negotiate? what are the issues still outstanding? outstanding, the package is locked and loaded. the senate has agreed to everything there. of course, the funding fight going into october, november, is going to be really ugly. i have been talking to democrats on the appropriations panel.

they say the front is essentially the same as last year, which is not great news, because we ended up with a 35 day shutdown last year. they don't have a strategy how they are going to deal with the border wall. that was the main issue that spurred the government into a shut down through december and most of january this year. there are other tricky issues like the detention beds and the enforcement powers that ice agents have. neither things democrats are really riled up about given the administration's aggressive actions on immigration all through the summer. democrats are ready to go to the mat on this. republicans are dug in. they are hearing from trump. we are staring down the same fight we did last year. >> the senate is going to take up a continuing resolution. on the house floor, we are back to looking at the southern border. the democratic bills by roaring -- lauren underwood of illinois and veronica escobar of texas.

you wrote in politico that representative escobar's border bill was pulled back in july. why did they pull that bill? what is in that? tell me what representative underwood's bill would do. >> congresswoman escobar's bill wasn't slated to come to the floor in late july. this was a big priority for democrats who wanted to tackle the oversight issue. thereanted to make sure were new requirements for the department of homeland security when it comes to especially migrant children. this was the priority. in the weeks leading up to this vote, they added more controversial items. they went bigger, broader. it was really something moderate democrats could not support. it made them nervous. democratic leaders decided over the summer recess to go back to the original bill that was filed by congresswoman escobar. things like establish and immigration related -- maybe

someone that congress can go to beyond just the agency. trump's hand-picked officials. they want their own oversight function. they will more training. they want body cameras whereby customs and border agents. worn by customs and border agents. it is going to be a different look than what we saw in july. >> what about congresswoman underwood's bill? >> congresswoman underwood's bill is similar. way forone more democrats to take action, trying to have uniformed officers for her focus isning, a little more on medical screening and that sort of thing. some news out of the house judiciary committee. this past week, the committee held what chairman nadler said

was their first impeachment inquiry, hearing from corey lewandowski, former campaign manager for president trump. your story -- excuse me, your political -- politico colleague has a story that corey lewandowski deserves to be held in contempt. is there any update? reports the judiciary committee is looking into holding mr. lewandowski in contempt. it is a complicated procedure. there would be many steps. cnn has a report they are looking to take the steps. it is something we will see. the judiciary committee is doing a lot of things right now. they are having two hearings in the upcoming week, one is on emoluments. they are trying to make this easier for people at home to understand to really dig into the problems democrats have with what president trump has done keeping his businesses while he has been president. this is a hearing looking at his

muslim ban. the judiciary committee is looking out of -- juggling a lot of hearings, subpoenas, things like that. we will see if the concerns on mr. lewandowski, holding him in contempt, see how that plays out. a lot going on next week. leadership'snk strategy on impeachment is clearer? >> the hearing did expose some problematic areas. it was hard to see exactly what the democrats got out of that, if there was any new information or new arguments to make. they are basically regrouping. they want to reshape their messaging. they want to have it sharper. in on whato narrow the trump administration and the president has done wrong here. they are looking to focus on
