>> i think we should be protecting the identity of the whistleblower. having this whistleblower law on the books is important. it's an important checks and balance not only in the intelligence committee but our government. what i would like to see happen is for adam schiff to answer questions about what was his engagement with the before theer allegations were transmitted to congress. he has misled the american onlic earlier in the year the contact he had with the missile blower -- whistleblower. i think it's important for chairmanship to answer questions about his interaction. think aboutou calling hunter biden as a witness?

i would love to hear it from the other americans that served on the board. i'm curious to know how someone who doesn't have experience in ukraine or a natural gas company comes on the board of a natural gas company in ukraine. >> hunter biden is at the center of this. there are allegations of corruption. questions bytainly a fellow named hunter biden would get a big job in ukraine when his father was then the vice president. conducting relations with ukraine. isn't that a person to talk to? >> me ask you what information hunter biden, a private citizen who has broken no laws would have about the president's withholding of military aid to ukraine? he has no knowledge of what the president did or didn't do here. there are certainly questions and many people have asked them but it's not relevant to this week's hearing.
1:46 pm
>> i don't have the list in front of me but you obviously saw it. you are a member of the committee. which member of the republican potential witness would you agree to call? transcripts> those are going to be released fully. i would expect the witnesses who have been interviewed because they have material information would be likely called in public. volker whoance kurt is a special emissary to ukraine. >> mr. volker testified. so did mr. morrison. those witnesses are on the list. mr. hail is on the list. those are the witnesses i have in mind that this is not my decision. i can't speak for the chairman. those witnesses do have material information about the president's conduct in this case. that's the proper focus in this inquiry. >> the republican party put forward a list of suggested

witnesses they would like to see called. hunter biden and his business partner. is it safe to say they will never come before the house intelligence committee? >> we are not going to go back in time and revisit conspiracy theories implicated in the president's call. it was the former secretary of homeland security who told jake tapper that he was telling the president that watch of -- much of what the president alleged in that phone call about the ukrainians involvement in 2016 was just nonsense. 2016.'t want to revisit if people have relevant information we want to hear from them. no to the bidens. >> i don't see evidence that anything improper has happened and people have said these witnesses conducted themselves with integrity. >> tim morrison was on the republican list. kurt volker. is it safe to say they will be

before your committee? >> we are going to handle that this week and we are going to be fair about it. processness behind the is just as important as the facts. >> i think that speaker pelosi and adam schiff's decision to prevent the witnesses is just doubling down on stupid. the american people i think are going to look at this and go, i get it. they are going to get the president of fair and impartial firing squad. that's not due process. >> you're not suggesting that the witnesses lack credibility? >> i don't know. i wasn't allowed to hear them. what i am telling you is that if it can be demonstrated that the president asked and had the requisite state of mind that the president asked for an investigation of a political lloyd --t's over the

line. but if you asked for investigation of corruption of a politician that happens to be a political rival. >> do you think the president is unimpeachable? >> yeah probably. >> i think the second angle is this. foreign aid law can only go out to countries that are not corrupt. if you think a country is acting in a corrupt way the president can always withhold aid until the corruption is fixed. of have to get in the mind president trump and his advisors. think corruption is in the law that you can't give aid? this ends up being a policy debate in a partisan debate and has nothing to do with legality or impeachment. me oneou will grant

second. my head is only now d combusting from the exchange you had with rand paul. onn senator rand paul comes and says that what donald trump said and the transcript is there, extorting a foreign government for his personal political gain and that's exactly the same as what joe biden said. that this prosecutor should be released. inn joe biden is acting consistency with american foreign policy and we had a whole list of things that had to be done and this was american foreign policy. it was european union policy. it was imf policy that this prosecutor needed to go. that's theaul says same thing as the president of the united states is saying you need to find dirt on my political opponent and with all due respect when you say do two wrongs make a right, the president of the united states

demanding a vulnerable country to do his political bidding to go after his opponent has nothing to do with joe biden executing the policy of the unit states or hillary clinton doing opposition research on her presidential opponent. those are radically different things and what the president did is wrong and impeachable. >> watch the c-span networks live next week as the house intelligence committee holds the first public impeachment hearings. the committee led by chairman adam schiff will hear from three state department officials starting wednesday at 10:00 a.m. eastern on c-span three. top u.s. diplomat in ukraine william taylor and george kent will testify. eastern, former ambassador to ukraine will appear before the committee. read witness testimony from the deposition. find the transcripts at c-span.org/impeachment.
