tv   Impeachment Inquiry Hearing Reaction  CSPAN  December 4, 2019 6:54pm-7:19pm EST

6:54 pm
house resolution 660 and those contained in it. we receive evidence that will conduct the proper hearings and period. thank you very much. (inaudible) when will you have the hearing? >> any other members free to expand? >> the hearing there from this chair of the committee gerald nadler after today's testimony. we heard before that from republicans and stephanie grisham spoke with the white house who also sent out a statement saying today was a good day for president trump
6:55 pm
but a bad day for the democrats. only thing the liberal professors established determined nadler's hearing is local bias against the president and did nothing to change the fact of despite weeks of hearings in the process that the president did nothing wrong and were taking your phone calls and hear what you had to say about today's hearing. we'll continue to watch as lawmakers come through the hallways and capitol hill in case any of them speak to reporters out there. we did have told be on the line will get him to finish up his comments. toe be, are you still with us? like >> i said, i want to point out the biased of the so-called witnesses that the democrats brought forward. they brought such contempt for a president in my whole life and the threat those witnesses did. one of them was a self confessed democrat and they shouldn't even be taken place. there is no evidence per se that will show anything that the president did anything wrong.
6:56 pm
these people do the same thing day in and day out, what are they doing now? they're using their own power to impeach him president that basically hadn't done anything wrong. i am just beside myself as a citizen of this country to see this stuff go on every day and in our country. it's such a waste of money and a waste of time. and i really appreciate the opportunity to talk about it. >> thank you told the. we have allen calling from washington and allen go ahead. >> i watched all these hearings from the day they started and i think republicans need to take their blinders off and see what's being said. this should be -- he should be impeached, he is so discussing the way he called people names and he is a
6:57 pm
disgrace. if they don't impeach him they will only do more damage. the democrats are doing a wonderful job and there are people that witnesses spoke today that spoke to truth and it's the republicans who need to get their blinders off and i can't say that. they need to pay attention to what's being said. all they're worried about is their own reelection. in 2018, you saw what happened to the republicans. they said the same things going to happen in 2020. >> ellen, thank you so much for the call and we got broken but burn a debt on the republican line in colorado. >> this is bernie debt. i just can't believe, i know what the democrats are doing but they
6:58 pm
hate president trump because he won the election and they are jealous because he won the election. why do they keep trying to impeach him for everything that they're looking for an they want to do it but they don't care about our country, they don't care about the constitution, they are just leaving it up to the people because they want to try to brainwash people and to say look what they're doing and they are saying that they intimidate people but don't forget, they don't talk about -- i don't remember but what the woman was but when president trump was elected, we have to impeach them. >> bernadette, what did you think about what come up today with? brought a piece some of
6:59 pm
the issues that some of them brought up? >> bunch of lies. they do still not have facts and every single republican was left to turn over this and yet they don't. >> thank you bernadette can, join the call. >> we have dan from colorado. >> hi, thank you for taking my call. i actually agree with a lot of people on both sides and think both are right. what's the way to say this? i hate when people call it a transcript or manuscript, it's not actually the verbatim phone call. from what i learned today, if you listen to both sides of the scholars, they were setting a president for understanding the constitution of moving forward with what we can move forward to. i wish the democrats asked turley more
7:00 pm
questions and in colorado i think neguse was the only democrat that was asked any question. if you listen to what he was saying, as of right now it's not an impeachable offense and i think what he's saying is that until we then we won't have any of these facts because the president has set a barrier around himself and unless those people are willing to come out and testify and give the truth under oath, then really, there are no facts and they are both right, because those people are the ones holding the answers to all the questions and to the doors that we need to open. chapeau agrees that el and took a long time for people to talk to him. host: democrats on the line.
7:01 pm
>> democrat here. thought it was very partisan with three out of four witnesses on the committee. really just very, very partisan. and [indiscernible] host: thanks for the call. jim calling from texas, republicans' line. caller: i'm 82, almost 83 years old now. i have watched all of the coverage.levision i have a few points that i think that is very important here.
7:02 pm
guilty until proven innocent or is it innocent until proven guilty? .econdly, hear say evidence i have listened to so much of the hear say evidence and evidence that was later on disproven that causes me to our about our history of country. and i'm afraid what i see right now is a lynch mob is going to linch a person that has
7:03 pm
not been proven to be guilty or innocent. host: if anybody wants to go back, watch some of our coverage of the hearing from today and from the intelligence committee. we have everything on our website, c-span.org/impeachment. getting a few more calls this evening. samantha on the line for independents and others. caller: i just wanted to say i appreciate everybody trying to figure this out but we need to see the other side of what's going on. certain people speaking and not really factual. america is not dumb. we see that. i love those diagrams, but what is the requirement check list?
7:04 pm
i y disturbing and just -- don't know. i tune into this and i come home to relax and it's really disturbing. but politics has to be fair. thank you for taking my call. ost: here's our numbers. trying to get your phone calls and hear your opinion on today's hearing in the judiciary committee. california, democrats' line. >> i believe it is hear say. i heard it from the president. he said russia, if you're listening look into hillary clinton. that is hearing from my president. when i see the signs and the
7:05 pm
t-shirts that republicans are wearing at his rallies that say they would be rather be russian than democrat, i believe. when someone doesn't call a witness that can prove their innocence and refuse to let them talk and they aren't innocent and let them speak. st: we have an independent caller. caller: thank you for taking my phone call. i am just appalled, dismayed by all of this rhetoric that has gone on in the united states. we are dieded, been divided ever since that man walked down that escalator and said he was running president. i have seen the impeachment hearings for nixon and seen the
7:06 pm
impeachment hearings for clinton, it was nothing, it has no kind of demeanor to this three-ring sirk us that is being displayed. i'm going to ask the american people to do one thing and one thing only. i don't care what your faith i is, but we are needing to pray. because right now, we are in bad times where we are going amongst each other. so something that really didn't exist, once again, you must, you must have the facts and come from the hearts and mouth. as far as what that other man , id, you saw an active member she said i'm going to impeach
7:07 pm
the awed and had dassity and wanted to impeach the man. host: one of the comments that was made during the hearing had to do with the president's son's name and we will look at that as a number of tweets have come out about it. we'll show you the exchange first, here it is. >> what comparisons can we make between kings that the framers were afrayed of. >> kings could do know wrong because the king's word is long. article 2 does not give him the power to do anything he wants and one example between him and the king. the constitution said there is no titles of no built. while the president can name his
7:08 pm
son barron, he can't make him a baron. host: a minor child should be kept out of politics. we heard from professor karlan and this is what she had to say. >> i want to apologize what i said about the president's son. it was wrong of me to do that. i wish the president apologize for the things he has done that is wrong. ut i do apologize. republican line calling from spring, texas. caller: this is about one thing and one thing only and it's
7:09 pm
about money. and that's what the president's been doing and he has been trying to show off the money. the democrats want the money train. host: what money are you talking about? can you clarify? money . money, dirty at goes to this -- it can be millionaires. host: what did you think of the testimony from the constitutional scholars. > b.s. host: democrats' line. >> i'm calling because i'm really scared for our liberties. mean, this is what i think, i'm a normal person and thinking there is a very a man that has a
7:10 pm
lot of power that a president who is using his power to get help to ruin an american. and he is using those powers to do that. and if we allow him to do that, i wonder what he will do to regular people like me. are we going to lose our liberties because he is doing whatever he wants to do. and so, i asked the republicans of the consequences if we allow this to happen. i'm afraid for our liberties. we cannot allow a man with such powers go after americans. host: republican's line. ray, go ahead. >> i'm retired 20 years in the navy and i'm so appalled what is going on with our country. we are going down a slippery
7:11 pm
slope that we are not going to recover from. this whole thing, it's all about money. the bidens were in ukraine and set up everything and hillary had the clinton foundation and the democrats just want to protect their interests and all this avenue they have created and going back to the owe baum ave administration. it's all about money. host: thanks for the call. the first hearing that we saw in the judiciary committee, there was a tweet that one of the reporters that was outside the hearing room, he is taking a look ahead saying under the provisions of the house impeachment resolution the judiciary committee can announce an additional hearing or markup within 24 hours so it doesn't
7:12 pm
mean that the hearings or markups are done. taking your calls. brian on the line for independents and others. caller: what i understand what the democrats are doing right now and making it so unfair that i think a lot of people who are watching this, it is so one-sided on their side and i'm afraid a lot of people are going o vote for trump out of pure spite. host: one republican constitutional scholar. >> which one? host: jonathan turley? caller: those guys are real smart. this guy seems to be like he is on the republican side.
7:13 pm
host: he was called by the republicans. caller: he doesn't like trump either but what they're trying to do to trump is the same thing that trump is trying to do and seems like that. it's not fair at all. i think trump's a blowhard, too. to me, it is a witch hunt now.
7:14 pm
caller: the way he runs his hotels and should be ashamed. as far as the scholars, i may not have a harvard degree or whatever, i'm a simple american citizen but i pray for our country. god, please, trump should be impeached. he is guilty and corrupt. embarrassed for him and the republicans. they sounded ignorant today and i can't believe they get paid for the. st: republican line, california. caller: thank you for taking my call. these law scholars, they explained it to me this morning.
7:15 pm
i had no idea where the impeachment came from, why it was stated in the first place. and everything, unfortunately that trump did, it was impeachable. proved it to me even though i'm a republican. if he was interested in investing biden and his son, he should have done it another way and should have presented it to the voters in a media conference and did it underhandedly and makes it impeachable. the republicans that are standing up to him, shame on us, we are supposed to stand up for the republic and no corruption and when we see a rong, we do something about it. hame on us, republicans, for
7:16 pm
blinding ourselves and allowing this to continue. i have to give it to the democrats. thank you for your bravery and trying to keep the presidency om becoming a tyrant type of type of institution. host: one more call here. huntertown, indiana, independent line. we've got benjamin. caller: thank you for taking my call. i have a few comments about the whole process and the nstitutional anticipatesance today. the democrats have a less than transparent process. it appears appear to me with the secrecy in the basement of the
7:17 pm
capitol and not giving the minority their rights to call their own witnesses, to have their own day where they interview witnesses. i think that is part of the unfairness of the process and i think chairman nadler and chairman schiff, the way they have conducted the whole process is very unfair to the president. and timely, they are just making to up as they go along demonstrate that unfairness and started out with quid pro quo and moved on to bribery and to s evolving and waiting announce articles of impeachment. they cannot articulate ba the next step is going to be, just smells fishy to me.
7:18 pm
