remember talking with him when he was running for democratic national committee chair a couple years ago. even then, it seems random, this guy who was a mayor of a small city in indiana with a funny name that you had to learn how to pronounce. he is going to run for president. ok. we had 17 republicans running for president last time, why not? then the remarkable rise. he talks about how you started with four staffers and he did. the guy either won orca one the iowa -- or co-won the iowa caucuses. if you step back, it is stunning. it is one of the more interesting political stories i have covered.
8:16 am
how that happened is going to teach us a lot about the future of american politics. host: before we run out of time, give us your productions for who is going to end up where on tuesday. guest: this is not a dodge. i have no idea. who tells you probably does not know what they are talking about. this is going to be another wild finish new hampshire. we have seen numbers move up and down. are moving in days. this will have a wild finish as the stakes are so high. you mentioned joe biden before. this is probably going to be it for him. he has to go out there and try to earn it. this is a huge moment of opportunity for pete buttigieg and bernie sanders. elizabeth warren needs to win. for a lot of folks, the stakes are so high. i am very open to what could happen in terms of political war here.

this has been a state of such tradition. some of the biggest moments in american political history have occurred here during this week between iowa and new hampshire. this is set up for a wild finish and maybe wild moments. host: we would like to thank james pindell of the boston globe for being here this morning and answering our questions about the new venture primary. thank you so much -- new hampshire primary. thank you so much. guest: i appreciate it. host: we are going to take more of your telephone calls on campaign 2020 and the new hampshire primary. your phone numbers are on the screen. later, we will be joined by neil levesque, head of the new hampshire institute of politics at saint anselm college. we will be right back. ♪ >> the new hampshire primary is tuesday.

trump that much, but he will win in a landslide. the american people -- god bless you all. host: we were talking earlier in the show about how faith and politics mixed. there's a story coming out of the pew research center where they pulled christian democrats about their preferences. here's what they said. among democrats, christians leaned toward biden, while nonpreferred sanders. let's see what they say. as democratic presidential candidates campaign to win their party's nomination, there is uncertainty about how voters from religious groups will cast their ballots. when november rolls around, early indications are that preference by religion will be familiar and closely linked to each party's political leanings. on the whole, among registered voters who identify with orlean toward the debt -- or lean toward the democratic party,

protestants and catholics are most likely to name joe biden as their first choice, according to a national survey pew research center conducted in january. religiously unaffiliated democrats lean more toward bernie sanders, with atheists and agnostics especially more likely to name sanders or elizabeth warren as their preferred choice. the survey was conducted at the campaign season began in earnest with the iowa caucuses to be held february 3 and the new hampshire primary on february 11. no candidate has majority support from any of the large religious groups. many voters still say they are undecided or declined to name a favorite. among black protestant democratic voters, 44% named ,iden as their first choice four times the share of any candidate. 30% remain undecided or give other responses, indicating uncertainty in their vote choice. let's go back to the phone lines

i do not think he is anything near what people think he is. he appeals to a very small minority of people. i think african-americans will completely run away from him because they do not trust him. i can already see that. that is just my two cents. i hear about these people that call them christians who vote for this person or that person. i would like to see a further breakdown of what exactly is meant by the word christian, how somebody defines that. thank you for your time. talking a lot't about religion and politics this morning. there is a story here in "the hill" called advocacy group launches two or encourage religious voters vote against trump. vote common good has launched a national bus tour

including stops in iowa in an effort to influence faith-based voters to vote against president trump. evangelicals have largely stood with trump because of his commitment to socially conservative causes and his appointment of two conservative justices to the supreme court, though there are pockets of opposition among religious voters who site his actions on issues such as immigration as well as his rhetoric. vote common good says it specifically opposes trump -- the trump administration policies on family separations for undocumented immigrants and health care, which the group says do not align with christian and other religious traditions. the group wants to convince religious voters to consider supporting a common good candidate, or one who prioritizes the needs of others, even if that person is not a christian, and says it is a nonpartisan group that aims to reach democrat and republican. we are essentially traveling the
