11:25 pm
acceptance speech was great, and what he said, america has to stay america. we cannot be a socialist country. we cannot be a communist country. america was built on capitalism, and that is what we have to keep and sustain. thank you for calling in. we went to hear as many of your voices as we can. let's go to john, democrats. i am a lifelong democrat , and my family comes from the kennedy democrats, and i will be voting for trump this election. host: why? caller: through my teachings of social justice, one of the biggest movements for social justice is the education system, and it really has me leaning towards trump, school choice.
11:26 pm
democrats talking about racism, but i do not think they are addressing it. i really do not recognize my party anymore. and my principles as a toditional democrat seem lean towards trump come which is ironic, but my heart just tells trump. john, we are going to leave it there and go to taylor in pennsylvania, republican line and try it again. taylor, what about talking about the election and about whether or not america remains america? caller: i loved his acceptance speech. i thought it was phenomenal. howi am very impressed with many times they say "god" in every single speech they brought up, and they said god so many times, i think it made the devil
11:27 pm
shake. so i am very proud. taylor, what do you think america means? when you think about america, what does that mean to you? caller: i think that means standing for freedom and your beliefs and protecting everyone regardless of race, gender, religion, and just peace. host: tell us just a little bit about yourself. caller: i am first-time voter. i am very excited to vote in this election. i was too young to vote in the 2016 election. i was 17, and i am very excited to vote this year. host: are you still a student right now? i am in college, my senior year, and one of the things i am worried about is getting a job. i am very concerned about the economy, and i want to make sure that with trump, the economy is
11:28 pm
good, and i get a job. host: thanks for sticking with us. amy, california, republican line, what does that mean to you? caller: freedom. choice. is my land. it is our land, and i do not want to sound cliché, but america is a beautiful place. we have so many wonderful things at our fingertips, and we are not a communist country. we are not suppressed that way, and i am voting for donald trump because i want to stay in a free country. i want to feel safe. i do not want to defund the police. i mean, there are so many different ways i could answer that question. in.: thank you for calling chuck, las vegas, independent line. how are you, chuck?
11:29 pm
caller: i think the speech was good. speech isreedom of the one the democrats lost me on. they have been attacking it. they keep preaching they are the party of love and tolerance, but you have to read the fine print. that is only if you believe as they do, and that is not the way we are in this country. if i hate every word coming out of your mouth, i am going to fight right next to you for you to say it, and that is what america is about, and they just do not get it. massachusetts, norma, republican line. what did you think of the vice president --about keeping america america. caller: i thought it was an excellent speech. i like so all three nights were about thanking god. i have a feeling they are going to make it this year.

11:31 pm
i've been a new yorker for over 20 years and i'm so tired of the crime here, i'm tired of what is going on here. i think this whole speech tonight with everyone was just right on point. i'm tired, i'm just tired of being tired and i think everybody in the united states feels the same way i feel. we are tired of feeling tired. host: jennifer, who did you support in 2016? caller: in 2016, i supported hillary clinton. host: and over the last four years, you have changed? caller: my views have changed. i'm a single mom. i have a daughter in new york. old, she's going to be 13. i worked very hard and i have
11:32 pm
just domerous times to the right thing by my daughter and do the right thing with bringing her up and i see what is going on here in new york and i see what is going on in this country and it is mind blowing. i mean my grandfather fought in world war ii. he was a marine. he did not see my mother for five years growing up as a child and he is rolling in his grave right now with what is going on in this country. host: that is jennifer in jackson heights, new york. larry is in florida, independent line. larry, what did you think of the vice president's acceptance speech? caller: i thought it was very well put. i like truth and fact. the dnc i turned off.
11:33 pm
it was kind of like an attack, as usual. they didn't name any policies. it was just depression. i didn't want to listen to it. the republican convention seems to be more positive. i'm definitely pro-life. the things that i've heard from the republican party almost brings you to tears from some of the speeches i've heard and vice president pence put it all on the line today, he spoke the truth. i'm voting for trump. host: let's hear from jasmine in mountain home, arkansas. republican line. caller: hello. good evening. pence'sd vice president speech tonight. he was very straightforward and to the point. i do believe that we do need four more years with president trump, in my opinion he has been one of the best presidents we have ever had and we need more.
11:34 pm
he needs to keep america great. host: so when you hear the phrase the choice in this is election is whether america remains america, what does that mean to you? means that america needs to keep with the rules and regulations that we have always fought for and defended our country for. that andneed to change everything that has been going on has been leading toward more socialism and other changes that we do not need. this is america and it is the land of the free and it needs to continue to be the end of the free. host: let's hear next from christopher. caller: hello. host: please go ahead. caller: i just want to say that
11:35 pm
this is my very first election i will be taking part in on the federal level because i was too young to vote in 2016, but i just want to say i'm extremely excited to cast my first ballot for president donald trump. i really think that four more years of him is what this country needs because the democratic party is just completely falling apart and just being exactly opposite of what it means to be american. they support violence in our street and our cities, they support socialism. they support just all of these crazy, crazy things. only one choice for president in this race. host: christopher, where is west we go? caller: it is just a couple miles outside of new orleans. host: is hurricane laura, you are not going to be affected by
11:36 pm
it? caller: it is a little windy out, but i'm pretty much fine. host: there we go. louisville, kentucky. the vice president said the selection is about keeping america america. what do you think? veryr: i think it is a salient point right now. i think for the america that i know and grew up with and i have been in the democratic party and longtime and see the direction the country is headed. place america to stay a that is pro goodness, less regulation, that stands for freedom, that stands for defense of our nation. and i see it going a different way with the joe biden potential. host: who did you support in 2016? caller: i supported donald trump. host: you've got a big senate race in kentucky this year. who are you going to support?
11:37 pm
caller: we do. i think it is an interesting position, but i think with the combination of mitch mcconnell and donald trump, it is tough to look away from that. look at what the other party is offering, nothing but divisiveness. host: but you still consider yourself a democrat? caller: i will be changing that. host: kelly, brooklyn, republican, good evening. caller: hi. that was a very nice speech mike pence gave, but the main thing i like about the president, president trump is the honesty. i don't see him playing mind games with us. and that is really what i like about him. just doing action and he is not just talking and talking about loving and all these things, he's a tough person, but he is doing whatever he said he was going to do. host: what is it like to be a republican in brooklyn? caller: it is a little strange,
11:38 pm
it is a little different than everyone else. host: give us a snapshot of yourself. caller: i'm anonymous. i would rather not. host: all right. oregon.hood river, tonight, the vice president said the choice in the selection is whether america remains america. what do you think? caller: we the people, for the people, by the people. he is fighting for americans. we don't need big government. the democrats seem to be fighting for corporations and more money for them valves. god bless donald trump. i used to be a democrat, i didn't vote for donald trump and 2016, but after they attacked him so brutally, i said, they are not giving him a chance and he's fighting for america every day area dive switched completely. i'm voting republican all the way. no more democrat for me. host: dorothy in brooklyn.
11:39 pm
my choices president trump, without him i fear we will be in a fast track to communism, socialism. democrats just show a general dislike of our country. judy is in las vegas. independent line. caller: good evening. i thought his speech was very well done. he hit the topics i care about. host: which are? all,r: well, first of safety, law and order, constitution. that is what makes america america. we have a constitution. we should not be frightened to speak what we think, number one. nobody wants to say anything. second amendment. first amendment, second amendment. those are very important. host: thank you. michigan.redford,

11:44 pm
than even when i was growing up versus where my kids are now, it is completely night and day. host: thank you for calling in. mary is in san diego, republican line. go ahead. much,: thank you so c-span, for that coverage you do on the rnc. host: just to be clear, because it is a virtual convention, those are not our cameras. i just want to make sure everybody knows that. we are just taking the feed. caller: got it. well, thank you. i'm a republican hispanic woman for trump. we love him. vice president pence's speech was truthful, sincere, and factual. forican -- america stands our freedom, god-given rights, thank you, trump for upholding the constitution and looking out for the average american edison and we will never be a socialist

11:52 pm
issue of law & order. where all these liberal cities have gone in the last couple of noths, municipalities have interest in enforcing the law. it has grown far too political just to spite president trump and that is what is important to me. i've had enough, i really have. i appreciate you having the show and letting folks like us call in. it is the duty of folks like me another law students who are tasked with learning how to be the leaders of the next generation to step up in an election like this and make sure our country and the laws that have been in place for a long time and the rule of law wins. that is what makes us different from every other country in the world. host: that is michael, thank you for calling in. coming up in just a minute, a recap of tonight's convention and everything you saw tonight and the last two nights you can watch online.
