9:31 am
here's that interview with lisa. what's the latest on the time here on impeachment and how democrats plan to move this in a short window? guest: you're hearing from democrats that they want to take that this n to show stands. so they are moving ahead, as you mentioned, the house will be back tonight to vote on this is the 25th hich amendment resolution. pence, the vice president, to invoke his powers to the e 25th amendment constitution to work with the
9:32 am
cabinet to declare the president unfit. resolution is expected to e approved tonight by the house. but in a lot of ways, it's omewhat symbolic because it does put the effort onto the folks at the white house, the the president, and then cabinet to take action. no e have seen, there is movement from the vice president r the cabinet officials to do this. we have not heard any cabinet to say they were willing to vote that way. certainly, the vice president he would be interested in doing that. we did report last night, our olks at the white house reported that the president and the vice president did meet last first time.e described as a good conversation week ahead.xt so it does not seem that will happen. house democrats are
9:33 am
debate on o start a the impeachment charge on see if theynd we'll get through the debate and get hrough the vote by the end of wednesday. house lawmakers are returning to the capitol tonight, and that debate will start tomorrow. impeachment resolution is the a single charge against president. it is the charge of the insurrection, n and that will be debated and house lly voted on the floor. a number, if not all democrats house, are expected to approve that. there are hearing that ould be a few house democrats that join in that vote. leadership ican appears split on this issue, as file house and
9:34 am
republican lawmakers. leader of thy, the the house republicans, had told in a letterst night to his colleagues that he did not believe that impeachment the country in the direction of unity. opposite ave the result. that liz e understand cheney, the congresswoman and in the nking republican house, did tell her colleagues last night that they should vote conscience on this. whatever theyd do think is right. of the been critical president's actions that led up of the riot at the capitol. so we'll see where those votes lie. and then, of course, as we know, he impeachment process, if the house does vote to impeach, then
9:35 am
he charges go to the senate, which cwill convene for an impeachment trial. as jurors in the trial. to beat, too, is expected a potentially slow process, we understand. o we can talk more about how that would involve. a the senate, it would take 2/3 vote of the senate to convict. that does not seem likely with narrowly split right now. a dozen take more than republicans, i think 17 to blicans to come on board join the democrats. it's unclear there would be number of thethat support in the senate. but lawmakers are moving swiftly this. usually an impeachment process is a long process. saw in 2019 when house democrats took on impeaching the over his actions
9:36 am
towards ukraine. t was a very long involved process with lots of hearings, debate. nd then a long trial in the senate. this will not be that. his will be a very fast undertaking. host: we're talking with lisa chief congressional correspondent with the associated press about that impeachment resolution. the want to read viewers that aragraph or two of resolution. lisa, one article, incitement of insurrection. proposed e resolution by congressman cicilline, congressman ieu, raskin. the dent trump threatened integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the eaceful transfer of power, and imperilled a co-equal branch of government. trust asy betrayed his

president. injury of the -- paragraphs of two that impeachment resolution. the text coming out yesterday on that resolution. mascaro, what about some of he steps being proposed by republicans? you talked about possible republicans supporting this resolution. some others push by for a censure resolution, isn't quite the step of impeaching the president for a second time. guest: yes. that's right. there is a group of republicans n the house that are considering a censure
9:38 am
resolution. and it's something that leader his letterntioned in to colleagues last night, that his is something he would review. there were some other ideas trying to review what has just happened and look at -- and back at the election some other proposals as well. this censure resolution seems to that some of the republicans who do have concerns happened and how to register those concerns may be support.o i think that democrats and others see it as just perhaps a back. it doesn't really do much. an impeachment and part of the resolution that forward is one, the gravity of it. would be -- president trump would be only the first in u.s. to ever twice be
9:39 am
impeached. t also carries the weight of preventing him from holding public office again. this.s part of look at what democrats are trying to do. saying, because of what you read in those final paragraphs of the resolution, he is a grave danger and should be excluded. is the is -- that resolution.e it's more weighty than the resolution. we'll see. host: finally, just in the last talked e have here, you about possible republican support for impeachment. can you just quickly touch on democrats are fully united in this effort, both in senate, are you hearing about any democrats who may not support this impeachment step? guest: yeah, that's a very good question. at this point, i have not heard who would be not
9:40 am
voting against it. definitely something we will be looking at today. re there any of the censure democrats, democrats in those reas where trump has been very popular still who would be concerned of doing this? now, the initial sort of guidance i was hearing last week hen they were first talking about this, there was such concern about what happened and unprecedented nature of the violence at the capitol, that democrats centrist who wouldn't have wanted to vote to impeach last time or would be of doing that this time were leaning into it. know, that they felt they needed to go on the record to wrong.t this was so we'll see today as the debate unfol we potentially tomorrow. votes
