host: following that vote, a two-hour period of debate on impeachment itself. one incitement of insurrection and that will happen through most of the afternoon 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and impeachment of president trump. stay with c-span to watch the action on the floor. since they have gaveled out, we will hear from you during that

time. charles from oklahoma city, republican, your thoughts. caller: hello. excuse me. i just think that basically it would be a mistake to impeach trump probably going to inflame a lot of people that unfortunately have guns and all kinds of stuff. and that would be kind of a mess. host: you are worried about more violence? caller: yes. host: what would bring the temperature down in this country? caller: the democrats or nancy pelosi and tone it down and let it go, i don't think trump is going to cause any more problems, i really don't and let

him live on his own merits. he has already said he is going to give a peaceable transfer of power. and if they can be smooth, then that's the best way to go. host: should anyone be held responsible for what happened on wednesday? caller: everybody that done the violence should be is responsible. the other day, i heard a person talking on "washington journal" and said that basically, law person, authorities, there are no words that trump used that he could be convicted on because he just did not use any language asking for violence. he didn't. and i was watching it and i didn't hear him say anything. he was telling them to go to the capitol and it was kind of a

setup that they should have had more people there, more law enforcement. they could see the crowd. they should have called more law enforcement up there to take care of that. host: debbie out of flint, michigan, democrat. you are next. caller: good morning america. i want him impeached. when he did the phone call to ukraine and to the georgia secretary of state, he said the same exact thing about his words that he said about his words when he was in front of the crowd working them into a frenzy. people that these words are totally appropriate, nothing wrong with them. the same line. people got to wake up, john. i want him impeached. you can take his pension, his

air travel, his funding for his office. host: what would you say to the first caller who said impeachment is going to only increase the divide in this country? caller: they say that stuff, but i think they are fooled that they think republicans are the only ones who have firearms. host: irene in tennessee, a republican. caller: two things i want to mention. mr. biden told us on public television that there is an extensive organization to cause the fraud in the vote. and b, the people that were at the rally for the president did not -- he did not incite

violence and heard chanting u.s.a., u.s.a. the police said there were bus loads of antifa persons. host: what about the chants of hang mike pence? caller: the reason the people that were at the rally was to encourage the votes be assessed and commissioned under the constitution for validity and that never happened. so, thank you-t host: danielle in ohio, a democrat. host: turn down your television and give us your comment. caller: i get it. i get why this impeachment process has to go forth quickly.
9:10 am
i get it because the way this president is able to stoke the emotions of his base. he could do it again. and what i notice is that he didn't have the control over his base. matter of fact, they were out of control. just imagine if there's a next time, the day before the inauguration. i don't think we can afford to let it get that far. i really don't. i think there is trouble. there will be more trouble because you have some out of control people and they are supporters, what do you call people like that? they are crazy people, if you will. and just out of control.
9:11 am
host: john out of philly, a republican. good morning. caller: good morning. thanks for taking my call. the trump show is about to end and hopefully it ends peacefully, it was a disgrace what happened, why did four or five people get hurt? maybe this will be a peaceful transaction and be able to move on. this was a super spreader event again. that's all he has done is talk about himself and promote -- he is hurting people by having these live events out in the open. host: william out of daytona beach, florida. caller: when i think about what happened here last wednesday,
9:12 am
it's all based on donald trump eli that the election was stolen and it wasn't. and all these supporters who marched up there who believed they were doing the right thing and patriotic all did that for a lie, that's how insane this whole thing is. he is a draft dodger, he ran a phony charity foundation where he scammed millions of people and settled out of court, the university was a scam and the man is a disgrace and sick. host: a very heavy police national guard presence in and around capitol hill today ahead
9:13 am
of this second impeachment vote of president trump. here are some of the scenes inside the capitol. national guardsmen sleeping inside the hallways. these pictures from the hill reporters scott and mike sharing those pictures on their twitter accounts. this is inside the building. this is raymond out of hudson, florida. caller: i think biden needs to get in there and doing what he said and unite this country. and to make blame on anybody across the board is just crazy. everybody saw on tv what happened, it's horrible. let's start doing the people's work. that's what i got to say about it. host: this is johnny in texas,
9:14 am
republican. caller: i have a few things to say. president trump he did take care of us people. and he gave us money when we didn't have no way of getting money. so these people that hate trump, why they send that money back and give it to a charity. he ought not to be impeached. how come nancy, she is dirty. they didn't do a full investigation on the democrats. go back as far as obama where they said -- why don't they look at the democrats? why don't they look at nancy.

if trump is so guilty, why do we got to rush it? host: focusing on another nancy, congresswoman nancy mace quoting the south carolina freshman republican on fox saying that she will see a dozen or so republicans that will vote to impeach president trump later today, although this is what the congresswoman just posted a few minutes ago to her twitter account saying a rushed impeachment today with only two hours of debate on the floor isn't the right or legal approach. i have opposed attempts to violate the constitution and will continue to do so. congresswoman nancy mace tweeting out on fox today and

this from congresswoman marjorie taylor greene and liz cheney coming out for impeachment, the freshman and calling for liz cheney to step down. she doesn't republican voters by supporting this impeachment of president trump and not connected to the base and voting for a hurtful lie is how march jor taylor taylor greene. a brief recess here and will take your phone calls until the house comes back into session. abby, a democrat. caller: i have a couple of points to make, i am a democrat but i listen to both sides and one thing i can't understand is the
