short time when we do not know the side effects. police reform, if people would stop talking about race and talk about the issue, this is police brutality. they should have dealt with that. our officers are supposed to be trained in nonlethal holds only. this should not have been an issue. if you leave race out of it and deal with police brutality, you get policies for. if you put grace in front of it and try to push policy through, people get back lash from the rest of the american people. take the race out of it, then you have that solved. as far as the sex scandals, the media needs new sources. host: joey, new hampshire illinois -- hampshire, illinois, republican.
9:16 am
what grade do you give the president? caller: a d. i want to give a higher score. he is our president. he is killing our economy. my 401(k) will go down, inflation will hit. i desperately want to speak to nancy pelosi, there is something that i missing in my train of thought, why they look at things a certain way. the only conclusion i can come up with is that politics is full of money, people are getting paid off, they are making money and we are not. i cannot understand the thinking of this. i am starting to doubt myself. if someone he explain this to me. i am all for change for myself. the border, everybody hates trump. he got the border deal going on with the triangle and mexico and

the president is pushing the issue of infrastructure, this big bill. republicans are in favor of infrastructure, so are the democrats, why do they not work together and take everything out of the proposed bill and focus on infrastructure only? so we can stimulate jobs, construction, the economy. get the country going back in a more positive direction. host: this is what members of congress are saying about resident bidens first 100 --president biden's first 100 days. "the potus has proposed more than $6 trillion in new spending and tax hikes, infrastructure bill, stimulus bill and more liberal priorities. he wants to finance these plans with tax hikes that will hurt our economy." andy biggs, the republican from

the cycle of extending or expanding our residence in afghanistan hoping to create ideal conditions for the withdrawal and expecting a different result. i am now the fourth u.s. president to preside over the true presence in afghanistan, two republicans, two democrats i will not pass this onto a feather. after consulting with our allies and partners, military leaders and intelligence personnel, diplomats and development experts, congress and the vice president as well as many others around the world, i concluded it is time to end our longest war. it is time for the troops to come home. when i came to office i inherited a diplomatic agreement, negotiated between the government of the united states and the taliban that all

u.s. forces would be out of afghanistan by may 1, 2021. three months after my inauguration. that is what we inherited, that commitment. it is not what i would have negotiated myself. but it was an agreement made by the united states government. that means something. in keeping with that agreement, our national interest, the only states will begin our final withdrawal on may 1 of this year. we will not conduct a hasty exit. we will do it responsibly, deliberately and safely. we will do it in coordination with our allies and partners. host: president biden talking about his commitment to withdraw u.s. troops, the promise he made. it is already underway, you heard the president site may 1, cnn says that the u.s. troop

withdrawal from afghanistan has already formally begun. republican lindsey graham critical of the decision and top member of the senate foreign relations committee. here is what he had to say. [video clip] >> i am heartbroken that president biden for political reasons took the high-risk strategy, it felt intimate upon me to support him if he went another way, it is incumbent upon me to point out the perils that await us. everybody i am about to tell you i hope i am wrong. i hope it works out. if he does not change his mind, i beg you to reevaluate, do not lock yourself in, things are to change quickly for the worse. al qaeda and isis are going to benefit from this decision.
9:23 am
i feel like i need to tell the american people why it is in our interest to keep a few thousand troops over there until conditions are right. if we leave afghanistan under the path charted by president biden, the government will deteriorate, people go back to the corners. the taliban will gain strength in the south, the central government will lose its ability to manage the country. it is tenuous already. a terrorist organization will reign in the east. the northern alliance, the mortal enemy of the taliban will reconstitute and form militias in the north. in the west, major city in afghanistan on the border with iran, iranians will have a major influence. what do we lose? we lose that insurance policy against another 9/11. we lose a listening post in the
9:24 am
backyard of one of the most radical movements in the world. afghanistan has been a platform where we can monitor what is going on. we lose all of that. what do we gain? we gain the idea that the war is over. the joe biden ended the longest war in american history. you have not ended it, you have extended and. host: lindsey graham from earlier this month, talking about the decision to withdraw troops from afghanistan. what grade would you give the president on his foreign policy? there is also the covert response, economic recovery, immigration, guns and policing. climate change, calls for national unity and cabinet appointees diversity.
9:25 am
these are things he talked about on the campaign trail. how do you feel he has done? kevin in indiana, independent, good morning, your grade? caller: i would say to be honest and fair, the only grade i can assign is incomplete. he has made progress in terms of fighting covid. he has made major steps in terms of economic recovery brought on by the dangers of covid. in many other areas, aspects, including the infrastructure proposals and you turn to the prompts along the border this is an administration that has work ahead of it.
9:26 am
not the least of which is the work to commence at the american people that it is on the right track. the best thing i can say about president biden in contrasting to the previous administration is that he is showing himself to be a true president. he is engaged in the art of governing and which is more than i can say for the republican party in congress and cannot have said that for the previous president. host: renee, newport texting that her grade is a b plus. he has been great on the coronavirus and the economy, but need to do better on the border. the messes that he inherited will not be cleaned up overnight and democrat divas like mansion and cinema are not helping -- manchin and sinema are not

this is ridiculous. we had it fixed, now it is a mess. host: tina in pennsylvania, she said her grade would be a solid f. immigration is out of control. energy, it seems like he would like to make his family roots. menthol cigarette, he would rather have americans high, we are no longer free, we are being ruled. penny in north carolina, democrat caller. caller: thank you for c-span, the only thing i would improve this fact checking on both sides. on the immigration, even the democrats will not tell you that those three countries guatemala, el salvador and the other one --

when reagan and all over north was in there, started covert wars to get parts and cocaine and brought it back here. they gave it to the mafia and split the money so they could send guns to nicaragua which congress had said do not do that. he found a way to go around that, as illegal as it was. when they got what they wanted, they abandoned them. would you be in a country that has cartels running the country for 20 years? as for afghanistan? when we went in there, i was behind a bush, but what did he do? 180 country said they would help us, he and cheney said no that we would do it on our own.

it was not about democracy or anything else over there or running the taliban out, it was to make money. eisenhower sent be aware of the military-industrial complex, they will dismantle democracy. host: we have to get in some other voices. mike in brooklyn, independent. caller: considering that he has a bunch of republicans fighting him all the way up and traitors down the line, as far as immigration is concerned. it is blaming americans for opening up the camps that the nazis were running, all of a sudden you blame the americans for what the nazis were doing. that is what is going on. host: tommy, springdale, arkansas, republican. how do you grade the president? caller: i would give him an f. host: how come? caller: going back to obama,

the stock market now, i think we are in trouble. it is just going to hurt americans. host: looking out the economic headlines in the papers. the wall street journal with the headline, "u.s. economy bounces back, near its peak, consumers lead the activity. bringing the nation within 1% of the level reached pre-pandemic." new york times this morning, "economic surge lift hopes as people aim to spend." the washington post this money, "growth speeds up in the first quarter, the economy on the verge of erasing losses." president biden from yesterday in georgia talking about infrastructure investments needed [video clip] pres. biden: we will provide high-speed internet everywhere in america.
9:35 am
15% of georgia households do not have internet. we will change that. those projects will create millions of good paying jobs, just installing them. 2 million women have dropped out of the workforce during the pandemic. because too often they had to choose between care for their child, family or go to work. in the 21st century, infrastructures not just steel and concrete, it is people. it is time we start paying people to come to our homes an d care for people. when a lot of people talk about climate they forget the most important word. i made a promise that i would rejoin the paris climate record. on day one, which we did.
9:36 am
that i would have in the first 100 days a climate summit in america. inviting all of the world polluters and emitters, including the biggest nations of the world. and they came, everybody from russia to china, european union, india, all of them. what came across? every single one of those countries whether they will meet obligations or not, finally understanding that taking care of saving the planet is going to create millions of jobs. millions of jobs. we are going to put engineers and construction workers, electricians, electrical workers, building efficient buildings and homes. we are going to install 500,000 charging stations around the highways we will rebuild. there is no reason that the blades for windmill turbines cannot be built in pittsburgh rather than beijing?
9:37 am
there is no reason american workers cannot lead the world and the production of electric vehicles and the batteries that repel them. we can do what we need to do in saving the planet and create millions of jobs. host: president biden from yesterday pushing his infrastructure plan. he wants to spend trillions on infrastructure. republicans have been critical of the president in his first 100 days. for the amount of spending that he would like to do. ensure it is ordinary people doing extraordinary things. that is the difference between democrats and republicans. democrats put their faith in government, republicans put it in people. i was disappointed in the speech. it is clear to me that he could have done his speech in 30 seconds. he could have walked up, said i am president biden, here's my message. i want all of you to send all of your money into freedom to washington -- and freedom to washington. thank you for watching. i do not agree with it. i have been disappointed in his first 100 days. he is a modest man but based on his record he has much to be modest about. it has been a radical agenda.

i do not think it is supported by the american people. host: senator kennedy of louisiana, republican reacting to the joint address. charles in new york, democrat call. how would you grade the first 100 days? caller: on the whole alphabet, a z. host: why? caller: he is horrible and people need to see the reality of what is happening. he is spending out tons of money. there is nothing done yet. there is no work in progress, tons of people are out of work but he talks about green this and electric that but there is nobody working. the stock market is doing great, the committee's are not making money because nobody is working. just starting to show money now, i have no idea.
9:40 am
the stocks are overpriced for no reason. a $40 stock that used to be $90 is back up to $70 for no reason. it makes no sense. they want to ban cigarettes but legalize pot. i do not want to walk with my child down the road and have some kids smoking pot and blowing that into my child's face. host: i will go to lupe in california, independent. your turn. caller: i want to speak to the callers and anybody else listening, just remember ezekiel 18:4 all the lungs to god. judge yourself, do not use the word hate, think about what you're going to say before you say it. i wish everybody a good day.

radical, socialist, communist democrat which i am not. it was interesting to see when he said that he was going to lift half of american children out of poverty, that the republicans set with hands in their laps and refused to give any credit for trying to help people out of poverty. i tell you, we are in a helluva place. it is sad that we are so divided that people are not willing to look at everybody's opinion. i watch fox news, cnn, i do not watch msnbc. if you only watch msnbc or fox news you do not know what is going on. you are listening to what you want to hear. i think that is sad.
