559,000 jobs in may, the unemployment rate falling to 5.8%. the wall street journal writes in a pickup of the labor market recovery amid signs businesses struggled to fill job openings and last month's games represented an improvement from april and the unemployed and it rate was 6.1% and the economy added a revised 270,000 jobs, a much smaller gain then economists had forecast. economists had expected 671,000 jobs and a 5.9% unemployment rate for may. 559,000 jobs added, the unemployment rate falling from 6.1 to 5.8 -- 6.1% to 5.8%. the president is expected to talk about the jobs numbers. we will have live coverage for you this morning, coming up at 10:15 eastern. the president is in delaware, and we will have that live on c-span two. we will stream that live as well.

(202) 748-8000 for democrats, and (202) 748-8002 for independents and others. moments ago, the house was shown, but they are out this week, and are back in next week for legislative work. the house committee meeting today to hear from former trump administration counsel don mcgahn, house democrats finally get to interview counsel mcgann. the council testified today before the house judiciary committee about former president donald trump's event -- attempts to interfere with the robert

mueller investigation. the interview is poised to have don mcgahn put on record with congress about some of the most pivotal moments of the trump presidency, such as when trump directed mcgahn to fire robert mueller and he refused. these incidents were documented in mueller's final report that were nearly eclipsed from public discussion during power struggles in 2019 and 2020. let's go to calls, we hear first from bob in hometown of illinois. go ahead, bob. caller: good morning. love c-span. my main topic is censorship of big tech and mainstream news media. they can take a former president and silence him. take them off twitter, facebook, and whatnot, and mainstream media covers the wuhan story for 12 months and now they say we can talk about it again. we have mainstream media and big
9:37 am
tech telling us what to think a, went to think, and as citizens, we cannot get our messages out because we are siphoned by censorship. i would like to see c-span offer 45 minutes of tony belinsky and see what he has to say about hunter biden. host: bob in illinois, mention facebook. we will hear news from facebook on how they will handle political posts. this is from the new york times, facebook plans to announce that it will no longer key posts by politicians on it side by default, if there speech breaks its rules -- their speech breaks his rule. that comes from two people with knowledge of the plan. the change, tied to facebook's decision to bar former president donald trump from its site, is a retreat from a policy introduced less than two years ago when the company said speech from
9:38 am
politicians was newsworthy and should not be policed. under the change, politicians posts will no longer be newsworthy, said the people with knowledge of the plan, who spoke on anonymity. politicians will be subject to facebook's guideline -- content guideline that prohibits our full speech. if facebook does decide speech from politicians is newsworthy, it can be exempt from being pulled down under the standard the company is used -- has used since 2016. starting today, people with knowledge of the plan said facebook will disclose when it applies the newsworthiness clause to rule breaking posts. that is from the new york times. we are talking about your top political story and the jobs number out this morning with the unemployed it rate dropping to 5.9% and the jobs added 559,000 new jobs. some reaction from members of the u.s. house, congressman barry moore says he may jobs
9:39 am
report missed the mark by 100,000 jobs. enough is enough, and it is time for biden to stop incentivize and -- incentivizing unemployment and get americans back to work. another says joe biden's economy misses again. this is what happens when you just incentivize work. dr. roger marshall, congressman from kansas, says may marks another month of disappointing job growth brought on by democratic-socialist driven spending policies. these policies are driving inflation and creating government dependency that makes it more beneficial to stay unemployed rather than return to work. from the wall street journal this morning on potential breakthrough in infrastructure proposals, this is their headline, biden offers compromise on spending. they write the president signal he could accept a narrower infrastructure package that did not include raising the top

corporate rate, telling top senate republicans he wants one so you dollars in new spending, floating alternative ways to pay for the measure. a new proposal, which includes a minimum corporate tax of 15% of the nation's largest companies, and the repurposed thing up some covid-19 aid, marks a late shift from the white house as mr. biden and senate republicans kickoff what is expected to be a final flurry of talks on the size of the intersection plan and how to find it. they also say, during a wednesday meeting set to this wednesday, two days ago, was shelley moore capito, mr. biden put forward a $1 trillion proposal, down from $1.7 trillion previously, and outlined options to pay for the spending that would not boost the corporate tax rate to 20% from its current 21% -- 28% from its current 21%. republicans called the attempt
9:41 am
to boost tax rate a nonstarter. let's hear from paul in kansas city on the independent line. good morning. caller: good morning. my top political story is that, we has a country, are being stopped by the ex-presidents. i guess the proper term is former president, but the relationship is over, and what is so bad about being stopped in this case is that he has an enabler. it is like the relationship is over, and the lesser amount of people in the country, the minority of the country, people that follow him, are enabling him. nowhere in american history -- no one in american history, after leaving office, has assaulted our democratic institutions like this.
9:42 am
obvious lies that he tells -- host: are you still there? sorry, you are breaking up on us. the former vice president, mike pence, spoke last night in new hampshire at the lincoln reagan dinner. we covered that and here's what he had to say. >> we made history, we made a difference, we made america greater than ever before. [applause] but how times have changed. the governor said he did not come here to bash the current administration. well, i did. [laughter] -- [cheering] [applause] so buckle up. [laughter] we have 144 days into the biden

administration and has launched an avalanche of liberal policies the likes of which i've never imagined i would see in our life. all of this, designed to derail the progress we have made over the last four years. president biden takes this to the podium, to the congress of the united states, and announced an explosion of runaway spending. another $6 trillion. after our administration worked, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, in a bipartisan way, every bill that passed the congress passed on a bipartisan basis. they forced through the congress a covid bill to find a massive expansion of the welfare state. they passed it on a partisan vote. it is amazing the difference in approach. host: all of that speech available on our website, c-span.org. more coverage of the former administration, the former

president, speaking at north carolina republican state -- republican state convention saturday. our live coverage at 5:30 p.m. eastern. we will cover that and stream it at c-span.org. this is the front page of the new york times. where vaccinations have fallen behind, states in the south and west like behind the northeast in covid-19 vaccinations, a pattern familiar from previous u.s. vaccination campaigns. the 10 least vaccinated states, less than 44% of the population fully vaccinated, and though states are idaho, wyoming, west virginia, arkansas, louisiana, tennessee, mississippi, alabama, georgia, and south carolina. westwood, new jersey, marks on our democrat line. caller: thank you for c-span. i think the top political story is the fact that we have a political war going on in this country.
9:45 am
the democrats, myself included, one a biracial democracy. the republicans want a white supremacist authoritarian state, led by donald trump. there is no bipartisanship on this issue. you cannot work with a -- with authoritarians, you have to stop them and oppose their agenda. i will hang up and say what you have to see about it. host: ok, to susan in tampa florida. caller: thank you for taking my call. i just wanted to say that i pretty much, i was a democrat but i am an independent now. but i think i'm very saddened, depressed, probably incredibly sad that this country has been
9:46 am
so incredibly divided. i do believe in america, always have, and -- host: what do you think the number one thing is that devise us? guest: i think -- divides us? guest: i think -- caller: i think the number one thing that divides us, the thing about it is, we are just not cohesive, we are not connected to the world, we are not connected to the united states. it is just so sad. host: susan, appreciate the call. we hear from john in pennsylvania. go ahead.
9:47 am
caller: good morning. i'm a little disappointed with the negotiations with president biden and the capito woman from west virginia. i think it is more of a compromise, a dance. he is giving in to much to the republicans. i wish president biden would take joe manchin down to west virginia and have him look at projects they need done in that state. i think joe manchin is afraid of being primary or whatever, and i think the state of west virginia could use a lot of this infrastructure money. just like pennsylvania and other states. i do not think biden should give one iota to the republicans. he should get this done by reconciliation, and use all of the money that he wants to use for this infrastructure project. that is my comment.
9:48 am
host: john mentioned, and we talked about the wall street journal's reporting on that story. this is the washington post and their reporting on it, front page, biden hi -- hints at a tax revision. he says he would be open to how the infrastructure package would be paid for to win republican support, outlining a plan for $1 trillion of new spending, and tax changes that do not appear to raise the top corporate rate. read more on washingtonpost.com. we may hear more from the president. he is speaking shortly, about 10:15 eastern, and we will cover that online at c-span.org. you can stream it there, and we will also show it on our companion network, c-span2. to coventry, connecticut, eugene, good morning. caller: hello. host: hi. caller: i think the top

political story has been totally under the radar and underreported. the two major parties both support the federal reserve's system, and the way it operates -- system and the way it operates. a new book called "engine of inequality," by a respected washington-based banking expert states that the fed has encouraged, since 2010, with its liquidity, massive liquidity, making loans into the system has encouraged inequality. and it has created a system where the billionaires profit through hedge funds and other

bets that poor people cannot engage in. people in college debt pay 7% interest on their loans while the bankers receive a federal funds rate of almost 0. people cannot succeed with this kind of difference, and we pay interest rates, 16%, on average, on our credit cards. home depot and amazon charges 26% interest on their loans that are unpaid, on their credit standing. this system is not sustainable. both parties support the federal reserve system. the federal reserve has missed three crashes in the last 20 years and has not predicted or

engaged in a way to solve them. host: this is a story about anthony fauci's emails released under the freedom of information act. the cnn report that dr. anthony fauci says publicly released email about lab leak is being misconstrued. in an interview with cnn thursday, dr. fauci said an email he received last year from an executive at a u.s.-based eco-alliance has been misconstrued and offered a hint of regret about a february 2020 email downplaying the need to wear a mask. earlier this week, news outlets including cnn, buzzfeed, the washington post obtained thousands of emails pouch e sent and received since the director of the national institute of allergy and infectious diseases became a housel name last year. in one email sent to pouch last april, a global nonprofit that helped find some research at china's wuhan institute of virology thanked faucher for publicly stating scientific evidence supports a natural

origin for the coronavirus and not a lab release. the origins of the virus remain unclear, writes cnn. "there are some of your critics who say you have two cozy of a relationship with people behind the wuhan research." john berman said you found she on new day, what you say to that? dr. fauci said that is nonsense. i don't even see how they get that from an email. another response to those tony fauci emails from resident -- former president trump, the headline in town hall, trumpet blasts tony after email dump, good thing i didn't listen to him. another wrote i was fortunate that i didn't do dr. fauci wanted me to do. i closed our borders to china early, despite us not wanting them closed. the democrats and fake news media called me a xenophobia. in the end, we saw this was a lifesaving decision, and with closing our borders to europe

likewise, specifically to heavily infected countries. trump later said i was later given credit by tony by saving hundreds of thousands of lives. dr. fauci also did not put an emphasis on speed of vaccine production because he thought it would take three to five years to create. i got it done in less than nine months with operation warp speed, some of the statements from the former president. morgan is in pennsylvania, democrats line. good morning. caller: good morning. thank you for c-span. my top political story is how the republican party has become the party of white supremacy and white racism. donald trump did what david duke tried to do, and made white racism mainstream. how sad. how pathetic is mike pence at that conference talking about all of the great things him and trumpeted when we have video of trump supporters yelling hang mike pence.
9:54 am
how pathetic. thank you for c-span. host: in rest virginia next up -- in west virginia next up, madalyn. caller: yes. i would just like to make a comment. host: madeline, you can do that, but make sure you are muting your volume. mute the set and go ahead with your comment. caller: ok. i would like to make a comment. i listen to c-span, and they blame the republicans for everything. as far as i'm concerned, they need to check their bible and give president trump the credit for things he and the vice president did. now, we have a group in there that is tearing the country apart, talking about race.
9:55 am
i am a white person, and [indiscernible] in a black man's house for many years when i was growing up. there is no hate from the black people. the democrats is causing all of this problem, and no one is looking at the bible to see what is going to happen to our country. host: on to huntington beach, california, mike on the independent line. caller: yeah, the lady was talking about the bible. the bible preaches that love thy neighbor as thyself. i think the problem with our country now is there is too much hatred and fear in our country, and we need to love each other. it starts in the schools, it starts with respecting each

other and human beings. thank you very much. host: the headline on the jobs report this morning, from the hill, hiring picks up with 559,000 jobs added. unemployment dips to 5.8%. response from senator bill cassidy, he, another lousy jobs report well below jobs report. this is a direct result of democrats policy that suffocates small business and job creation. we cannot spend our way back to a pre-pandemic economy. the president tweeting unemployment claims are down 50% and 64% of adults are vaccinated since i took office. that is progress. we will hear more from the president in 20 minutes at 10:15 eastern. he will be speaking from his beach home in delaware, talking about the economy and jobs, perhaps too more about the infrastructure with republicans. rosetta is an virginia -- is in
9:57 am
virginia, democrats line. caller: good morning. i would like to talk about president trump, and his carrying on. i don't like to use the word white folks. i think we are all human, and we are all born into the racial god. god created everyman, and he created every man in his own way. he did not separate the races. the black folks and white folks and all that junk, we ought to cut that out and live with one another like we are human beings. host: to rose in north carolina on the republican line. caller: thank you for taking my call. we have allowed the world economic forum to call all of the shots and biden builds back better plan is a grocer about -- and the biden builds back better plan is a gross plan.
9:58 am
friends of science, michelle sterling and jane berger meister, i encourage you to look at both of them, were whistleblowers about the plan, and there plane for depopulation. no one listen to because they were women. these patents, i believe, are far more important than the emails. it shows this virus was made not just in one lab but they are three ccp labs that are building biowarfare weapons. it began in north carolina, in chapel hill, with the funding . nih and worldwide genocide has been the consequence. host: to follow-up on antony file cheese emails, -- anthony fauci's emails, they safe out you must testify about published origins, covid-19

as independents with no party preference so that the politicians will have to come to us, right or wrong? host: thank you very much. kevin in cedar grove, north carolina. caller: how are you doing? it is keith. the thing that is going on right now that is bothering me is the holding -- the whole thing, we are accepting a president where our gas has doubled in four months, we have been one through one shortage and we are going through a party that wanted to keep people in the party, that most beautiful sight he has ever saw was a redline in russia and that was bernie sanders who said that. and that is what they are trying to get our country to and yes, they are trying to divide us by

making everything about race. the old lady that got punched in the face in new york the other day and the guy that punched her , he had been arrested 40 something times the previous year, but they keep letting him go. that did not matter because it was not a race thing they could use. it was not a white person. a white person heading a black person, it was a black person hitting an asian person. you have not heard anything about that. they are using -- the media is using what they want to use to put america against itself. host: i appreciate that. we go to anita in a new south oak, new york. caller: i am a retired social studies teacher and what i cannot understand is all of the trunk support is believing in --
10:02 am
i cannot understand that. host: all right, that will do it, we appreciate your calls this morning, all of your calls, and we are back tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. eastern, i hope you are too. up next, taking you to brookings institute, they will hear from jens stoltenberg, the secretary-general of nato ahead of the g7 meeting. he will speak to the brookings institution next. you are on c-span. >> enact a new constitution that granted rights and opportunities for women and girls in particular. nato was a great fourth multiplier for the good and the afghan society. still, i am aware that the challenges nato faces 10 years ago are in many cases not the same ones that the alliance faces today. china and russia present unique challenges and with the rise of artificial intelligence an
