independents, one line. you can text us. sheila has been online waiting from youngstown, ohio. line for democrats. go ahead. you can respond also to what the president had to say during his beach. caller: thank you so much. his speech really knocked my socks off. these are the points i was going to make earlier. i will make the points. the republicans literally voted against commendations to the capitol police, the people being beaten and stabbed who stood between them and death. according to a recent opinion poll, bottom reppo has a higher approval rating among republican then the president of the united states.
9:44 am
i just want to say god bless america and remember who we are. host: that is sheila in youngstown, ohio. tanya, in fredericksburg, virginia? one more time? caller: thank you so much for taking my call. thank you so much. i just -- i am a 20 year navy veteran. i am so proud of our president. he basically started out with, you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. because the insurrection was brought about. he laid it all out. i'm so glad he did.
9:45 am
god bless our president because after a year, all of these people were calling and saying that we did not see what we saw, they need to know the truth. opening their eyes and see that they tried to take away our vote, and i thank you so much. host: let's hear from joan in colorado, republican line. caller: thank you for taking my call. i came calling with another comment so i will try to be quick. regarding the speech. floors of eloquent words spoken today does not change the conditions on the ground a year ago. the vice president, one thing she said struck. she said strength of democracy is the power of the people. i say strength of our democracy lies in the truth empowering the people. the president said recognize truth and live by it.
9:46 am
why is nancy pelosi being protected? host: that is joan in colorado. here is john. john: we are trying to give the instant reaction from members of congress in wake of the president's comments. here are a few of them including this from the senator patrick lakey sankey captured this image in advance of the rare visit to the capital. he tried to put it into some historical, that context. he said it is rare because it is the capitol's ornate capital hall which once served as the house chamber and it was the president who entered statuary hall and gave that speech, about 35, 40 minute speech a few minutes after. from senator lindsey graham, the republican of south carolina, during the comments saying, what brazen politicization of the
9:47 am
january 6 events by president biden. i wonder if the taliban, who now rule afghanistan with al qaeda elements present, contrary to president biden's beliefs are allowing this kind of speech to be carried? and then, this from longtime political reporter ed o'keefe. he is with cbs news now. looking at how the president used his words in his speech saying, over the course of the past year, the president has made passing references to his predecessor. several times today, speaking much more expansively than before about donald trump, blaming him for stoking the january 6 protests and doing nothing to stop them. we heard the vice president kamala harris mention house-senate staff had to makeshift barricades on capitol hill. here's a picture from a former harris staff are saying, that day, january 6, turned out to be the last time i staffed then senator kamala harris at the capitol.
9:48 am
it was also the first and hopefully last time that my work required me to mciver a cable and coat rack to jam a door shut to buy time in case we had to escape from a mob. this tweet from a congressman saying that he is going to be giving the republican response to the anniversary of january 6 alongside congresswoman marjorie taylor greene. that is happening at 2:00 p.m. eastern. we are going to be airing back on c-span.org if you want to tune into that. matt gaetz also commenting on the work of the january 6 committee saying that they have to keep the january 6 committee intact and issue subpoenas when republicans take over the house after the upcoming elections, saying that he wants those investigations to continue under republican leadership. this from congressman adam kinzinger, a member of a member
9:49 am
of the january 6 committee, saying every republican politician up and down the ballot should today be asked repeatedly until the answer directly, did joe biden win and where the insurrection us right or wrong. one more tweet from you, this from the house administration committee, the republican staff on the house administration committee reach waiting a video that they posted just about a year ago. this is from the days after the january 6 attack on the capital. they had set up a video camera and showed a time-lapse of staffers and reporters and others who stopped by that tunnel between the rayburn house office building and the capitol and put up of those signs to thank the capitol police for their work that they did and their bravery and courage on january 6. again, that from january 12 of last year. host: let's hear from eleanor in fayetteville.
9:50 am
the mike rounds line. caller: good morning. on january 6, there was a heartbreaking moment in time for any person that truly loves this country. i'm ashamed to how we are overlooking the fact that this is about one man who wants to be a dictator and above the law. donald trump is not a democrat or republican, he is about getting money and power. this man has shown nothing but the ability and willingness to do bad by our country. his family has been using this country for their personal gain but we tried to cover that up because who he thinks he is. host: that is eleanor. let's hear from josh in silver spring, maryland. caller: thank you so much. i deeply respect the president, president biden because he is the president, but i was supremely disappointed in the context of his speech today.
9:51 am
i think he missed a great opportunity to bring this country together. the fact of the matter is, i believe most americans think that what happened on january 6, 2021 was a travesty. i think the focus of his speech should have been on that fact, that most americans are sensible, they understand that what happened at the capital is not the way to operate in a democracy. and he could have tried to bring us together a little more. again, i am just disappointed he did not do that. host: what is specifically wrong with the content of the -- the speech he delivered? caller: the facts he laid out i don't think are wrong. the fact of the matter is that donald trump, president trump, at the time, his actions or inactions led to what happened at the capitol. i'm not disputing the facts. but i think there was an opportunity here for president biden as the president to make
9:52 am
remarks that would bring the country together, that would talk about the ideals of democracy but to not necessarily -- there is a committee in congress looking into the january 6 insurrection, the department of justice is looking into it. let them do their job and let the president do his job, which is to represent all of the people of the country and bring us together. that is at least my opinion. host: this is robert in scottsdale, arizona. independent line. caller: why wasn't it mentioned the summer of love when we had seattle streets taken over. how about the president of united states, president trump and melania had to go to the basement because it insurrection was going towards the white house? it was so serious that they were going to break down the buildings towards the white house. where was that at?
9:53 am
everybody on that committee is democratic. where was gaetz, jordan? where was marjorie greene? you have to have balance here. the american people see that. that is why the polls show that trump has a lead over by then. that is why they are scared to death because after all of this, he is still popular. nothing is wrong with what joe biden said, but if he gave the narrative today and said we had a summer of love that was a disgrace, police officers, waters being poured on their head in new york city during summer and no one says anything, everything is the republicans. they are the ones trying to circumvent. host: ok, we go to doug in st. petersburg, florida. democrats line. you are on. caller: hello, thank you. i'm so thankful for our president. i have never felt prouder of our nation. a man of integrity who said what
9:54 am
needed to be said and he spoke about the united states and about bringing us together. that is what he is doing as president and i'm think will. i was so impressed with vice president harris's comments before. i think her speech will go down with the gettysburg address, washington's inaugural address. it will be on the same page with some of the greatest speeches ever given that we can learn from this and rise above what happened on january 6 a year ago. we are striving and working and committed to support the constitution, to form a more perfect union. she said it well. host: we will go to ray in taylor, michigan. caller: the gentleman that just spoke about harris's speech
9:55 am
going down in history or biden, his speech, i am surprised he could stand up that long. but they did not tell me anything today that they have not been talking about for the last year. as long as they have looting and burning and robbery in all of these states, chicago, portland and los angeles, the law is the law. every time they get into a little bit of a problem, they bring out january's. that is the out for them, that is the way they get out of thing. personally, i think it was all set up, the democrats did it. host: how did you come to that conclusion? caller: -- the military in. host: how did you come to that conclusion you just made? caller: well, if you had been in the white house and they were coming up and you were so scared
9:56 am
like they are talking about, and you had the opportunity to call the military in, would you call the military? host: we go to ricky in michigan. democrats line. caller: i think the speech was great from both of them. another thing, there had to be a republican because you know something? everything that joe biden and kamala harris and the committee and everybody has been trying to pass, the republicans was blocking. here's the thing they don't know. what they are doing is taking their own head off, the republicans. host: i does want to let viewers know that the president and vice president are now walking out of statuary hall after the. go ahead. hold on. >> a clear picture for the
9:57 am
american people. it is not about me or the vice president, it really is not. that is the thing that bothers me most about this attitude that seems to be emerging to some degree in american policy. it is not about you, it is about me. that is how it is viewed, but it is not about me. it is about the system and how somebody decides to put himself above everything. i did not want to turn it into a contemporary political battle between me and the president. it is way beyond that. it is way beyond that. reporter: [indiscernible] you talked so much about healing. pres. biden: you can't pretend. this is serious stuff.
9:58 am
a lot of people, understandably, want to -- i would just assume not face it. you have got to face it. that is what great nations do. they face the truth. deal with it and move on. reporter: [indiscernible] host: a few more minutes with your calls. in ohio, independent line. caller: i'm so glad i got through. i tried for an hour before this speech and realize i was calling the text line. i did write this down so i can be so synced. i would like to say that 28 years ago, i gave birth to my youngest son he was out rocking the world for us today. anyway, for years, working people have been on the losing end and have been taken
9:59 am
advantage of and asked what it to do the dirty work of those seeking to gain or hold power. the most recent evidence of this is what took place a year ago today. until we can agree that the sky is indeed blue and that two plus two equals four, we cannot come back together on what makes our country special. trump lost, biden won, neither was my candidate of choice but i'm a grown up and i know there will be another election and i will work hard to get the people i supported to office. you win some, you lose some, but there is always tomorrow. thanks. host: ok and christopher, in inglewood, new jersey. caller: i thought what they said today in the speech was powerful. it is time for us as a nation to come together. it is time for us to stop having the divisiveness in our country and realize that what we need to do is to better ourselves, realize that our votes matter every single vote matters. and it is time to realize that the guilt lies in the person who
10:00 am
spread the misinformation -- host: i apologize, let's hear from raymond in georgia. caller: caller: yes, sir. i was calling to make a couple statements. i hear about the big lie, the big lie. even the speech has got lies in it. he mentioned 150 million americans went to the polls. 150 americans didn't go to the polls. that was one of the beginnings of the biggest problem. another thing is the people who went to the ballot box. well, you know if you go on about the big lie, you might not be lying to yourself, but you are on tv talking to the people. that was the biggest problem, was the people voted at the ballot box that didn't vote. they didn't go to the ballot box
10:01 am
and somebody had done it for them. people don't believe in elections now because of it. you know, states are trying to fix that, and this figure right to vote is the biggest lie i've ever heard. host: ok, let's go to robin in alabama, democrat line. caller: i'm really not a native here, just to clarify. host: there the motorcade that people are seeing and the president is just about to walk out. robin, go ahead. caller: ok. my comment is i think that the people to believe in the power of prayer, we can pray that the mail be removed so that people who are believing the lies of donald trump and the things that he is put them forth to do, that they can see the difference
10:02 am
between right and wrong. because apparently, they are confused. they can't see the difference between right and wrong. i've talked to so many, it is as if they were blind. i had a native down here tell me that this is the only way i can reason with him. if satan himself was on the ticket and there was an "r" before his name, the republicans would vote for him. they cannot see the difference between right and wrong, between truth and lies. there is aveil that needs to be removed. i can't conceive how they cannot see the truth. that's all i have to say. >> let's hear from david and washington, d.c.. caller: good morning, thank you for taking my call. i just thought it was a little disingenuous, all business of
10:03 am
commemorating this january 6 seems disingenuous to me. one example i wanted to point out, from, he complained about the results and the whole business with a bunch of people not accepting the results of the election. and he says because of these protests, that is why we have to enact our voting rights act. he is just using everything as an excuse for his own political purchases. i'm surprised that the people who call in, they have a great feeling for the speeches that were given. it didn't have that effect on me. i wish it did.
10:04 am
host: that is david and washington, d.c. at the president depart along with the motorcade of united states capital. again, if you want to see more of the president speak for the vice president see from here on, you are welcome to go to our site at c-span.org also find it at our c-span now app. a lot of events throughout the course of the morning. we will show them to you as we go on and tomorrow on the program we will show them to you as well. and that is kind of the plans for the day. james in maine, independent line. i apologize, that is it for the program today. we will return with another addition of washington journal at 7:00 tomorrow morning. we will see them. -- we will see you then. >> c-span is your unfiltered view of government.

10:07 am
until and unless the secretary of state allows a forensic audit of the election, a request she has nine repeatedly. we've been told over and over that even though this was a public election, using public money on public machines, utilizing public employees, the public today has no ability to simply double check the veracity of these results. if the presidential election was a football game we would get a slow-motion review from multiple angles and a correction of a controversial decision. but not so. we are told by our secretary of state no review for you. the dominion voting machines with a document the history of enabling fraud through a now discredited adjudication system, a system that literally allows one person to change tens of thousands of votes in minutes. and the only audit done in arizona, a court found 3% error rate against president trump.
10:08 am
vice president biden's margin of error was 1/10 of that, at .03%. by the way, a 3% error rate at minimum is 90,000 ballots. after finding the 3% error rate, the courts refuted to go further. in arizona, mail-in ballots were altered on the first day of counting as shown in data graphs have provided. that is concluded by data analyst. over 400,000 mail-in ballots were altered, switched from president trump to vice president biden were completely erased from president trump's totals. this cannot occur except that winning the mega millions lottery is more probable. mr. speaker, can i have order in the chamber? >> the house will be in order.
