headline. "low tide," from breitbart news," though republicans are favored to take the house. on the left side of the aisle, their news site, "the red whimper is -- whimper" is the headline they went with. from "the daily beast," "we still don't know who won, but the republicans lost. hoping for a red wave, what they got was more like purple rain." host: yesterday's elections are still being determined. the associated press is making calls for races. you can tell us what you think about the results of yesterday and the results where you live, to. from various candidates last night. steve in lexington, kentucky, democratic line, you are up first talking about election 2020 two. good morning go ahead. caller: huge fan of c-span, huge fan of you and john. here in kentucky, the democrats didn't do as well as i thought before the pro-choice amendment, looks like that's going to be on the pro-choice side, which is always good. the red wave that never came across the country, what is that about, republicans? i thought it was going to be a demolition out there? i thought that they were coming in drones and it was the end of democracy? looks like democrats actually stepped up to the plate and are protecting their rights. it was a better outcome than anticipated. host: let's hear from cindy, connecticut, your next.
7:08 am
caller: hey good morning, thanks for taking my call. i never expected a red wave quite frankly but you could see the tide. it seems to me that, you know, the social issues, i have called in and said this before warning republicans. it's a loser for them with the abortion thing. that was big. you know, i supported trump, but we know he has made it all about him and i think he hurt the party by saying, flirting that he's going to run. i don't like that. you know, it just, i am amazed that joe biden got a better midterm outcome than barack obama. i find that absolutely amazing. but you know, we got what we had coming to us, i'm going to say that. social issues are a loser and
7:09 am
i've always said that there needed to be a lot more moderation. as far as the supreme court, they did the democrats a favor with the dobbs do for -- dobbs decision, didn't they? so let's not, supreme court. you know what, they are not so bad, i'm sure, most democrats are feeling today. host: that's cindy, there. james, independent line. caller: my daughter register to vote on her birthday one year ago. we went to vote yesterday and there were 12 people in line who said they registered -- that if you registered at the dmv you would not be able to vote, and that's a mistake. there have been 400,000 illegal votes removed from this state. thank you. host: that was james. one of the people speaking in the early morning hours, john fetterman, now the senator elect from pennsylvania, talking to his supporters at a rally.
7:10 am
here is some of his victory speech. [video clip] >> i'm so humbled. thank you. what is it, 1:30 in the morning and you are still here hanging in? [cheering] we launched this campaign almost two years ago and we had our slogan, it's on every one of those signs right now. every county, every vote. [cheering] every county, every vote. [cheering] that's exactly what happened. we jammed them up. we held the line. i never expected that we were going to turn these red counties blue, but we did what we needed to do and we had that
7:11 am
conversation across every one of those counties. and tonight, that's why i'll be the next u.s. senator from pennsylvania. [cheering] [cheering] >> thank you. >> thanks to all of you. all of you. thank you. thank you so much. i'm so grateful right now. i just, i want to thank, of course, all of, all of these supporters. all across pennsylvania. all in this room. all across the nation. everyone who chipped in 10 bucks to help us get here, thank you. host: those victory and concession speeches from main candidates, you can find them on
7:12 am
our website, c-span.org, and of the c-span now app. derek, saying let's be honest, democrats avoided a wipeout in spite of themselves, they need to find tune the messaging and speak to the concerns of everyday amount -- everyday americans. and this one, oprah winfrey stabbed dawes in the back, so much for a friend. michigan, democrats line. randy is next. hello there. caller: good morning, pedro. i would like to start by thanking you in all the men and women it takes to bring us this program. you are doing a great service for the nation. and i would like to thank all the americans out there that voted to save our democracy. i do not believe it was just democrats that voted to get these election results that we
7:13 am
got anymore than i believe it was just democrats that ousted our former president. these are people that stepped up, still believe in their beliefs on right or left, democrat or republican, but also could see the danger to our democracy. we've got to be able to debate it and the people stepped up to put the magas back in the shadow where they belong. host: how confident were you in your governor winning reelection? caller: i was pretty confident. her challenger was just way too extreme. when you can actually say on tv you think it's a good idea for a 14-year-old to have a baby so she can know what it's like to be a mommy, you are just out of touch. that's just, that's just too extreme. i think that's what this vote was. we don't mind arguing between
7:14 am
democrats and republicans but that's just extreme. extremism. it was put to bed when it should have been. host: randy in michigan. chris, kentucky, independent line. caller: good morning. i want to wish everybody a good victory on everything. west tennessee, we've got this retired prosecutor chasing people around with a stealth drone. nine years, over $10. host: sticking to yesterday's election, what did you think about the results we have seen so far? caller: i think they are good. host: why is that? caller: i like them. host: why is that? caller: i just think, it's turning in the right direction. -- i just think it's turning in the right direction. host: ok. surely, democrats line. you're up. -- shirly, democrats line.
7:15 am
europe. caller: i'm grateful it wasn't the red wave that people were expecting and i just want to see warnock put herschel walker away for good. have a nice day. host: the state of the georgia senate race has yet to be determined, could go to a runoff early in december. that's just one of the stories playing out from yesterday. you can comment on the phone lines and send us texts and tweets if you want, talking about the race results from yesterday. one of the people who addressed his supporters in pennsylvania yesterday was dr. mehmet oz. talking before the races were called in the federman favor, talking about it and talking about the state of the race as he saw it. here's a portion of that from yesterday. [video clip] >> i entered this campaign, we pulled the family into it,

because we wanted to bring balance to washington. that's what were going to do. as a heart surgeon i spent my life focused on big problems. in my case, broken hearts -- broken hearts. we address them, repair them, heal them by bringing people together. that's what we are going to do in washington. that's what we need to. i have said to you many times, said to you many times -- sorry, what's the problem? are you not able to hear me? have you heard what i said so far? making sure. i have told you many, many times that i believe in you. traveled all over the commonwealth to make the message clear. tonight you have told me that you believe in me. bless you for that. together we will heal
7:17 am
pennsylvania and heal america. god bless you. host: again, you can see those comments again on our websit and our app, if youish. a lot more comments there from various candidates as they made speeches yesterday. that will continue through the day, most likely, and you can find all the wrap up there on our campaign 2022 website. joanna in orange grove, texas, you are next up. good morning. caller: i'm kind of disappointed on the republican side. i'm a republican. the issues at stake is, our country is gone all to pieces. as far as the democrats when they took control, we had issues of eating, fueling our cars.
7:18 am
and hour, hour, or military, the focus of our military has gone to hack because of the fact that our military, when we go in, we take over a country and we rebuild it. we have never, it devastates me that we have left our equipment, are a hold equipment and our own people overseas. host: your governor, your governor in texas won reelection. what did you think of that? caller: it's awesome because you know why? we are texas. we believe in um, our garden. our second amendment rights. we believe, i have been adopted. if it was for abortion i never would have been. i do believe in certain
7:19 am
circumstances that abortion is necessary but to have an abortion because you don't want to have a baby? that shouldn't happen. if you have been raped or if you have a medical problem, i can understand that. but having an abortion just to get rid of the baby, get rid of the problem, i'm against that. and i'm against abolishing the second amendment. host: ok, that was joanna and texas. let's hear from a floridian, mary, democratic line. caller: i've been wanting to call in. i've been following this ever since trump came into office. i've realized that he has split the country and that is what he wanted to do. he's huge friends with putin and the reason he won the campaign when he did, it was only because putin was helping him with his campaign. and i feel like we have already
7:20 am
seen that on television. there was a man who was funding and a lot of money for trump at the time. he's going to do the same thing in 24. host: telus, what did you think of your governor's strong performance in winning reelection yesterday, governor desantis? caller: this is weird, too, but i still feel this way. i feel like trump and desantis are both under putin's control. i know it sounds crazy but i feel like trump -- how can i put this? i feel like they helped with this is running for the governorship. trump and desantis are acting like they aren't but i guarantee they are behind the scenes.
7:21 am
host: that was mary in florida. again, those results out of florida, you can see those play out. also the home of the former president of the united states, donald trump. with that we go back to john mcardle. host: donald trump, a name that wasn't on the ballots last night at a name in figure that loomed large over the midterms. one way the former president exercised his influence over the midterms was through endorsements. the former president was celebrating the victories of his endorsements on his truth social media account last night. 174 wins, nine losses, a great evening. the fake news media together with their partner in crime, the democrats, doing everything possible to play it down. amazing job by fantastic candidates. that's what the former president road last night in his truth social post.
7:22 am
focusing on that in several of the news stories covering the elections, including in "the new york times," michael benr writing "donald trump remains unquestionably the country possible sin for a republican. general election results raising the russian again about whether that is such a good thing for the party." -- the question again about whether that is such good thing for the party." maggie hale -- maggie haberman, "some of his candidates fared well but of the gop bright spots on tuesday, one of them is from the candidate that trump kicked in the head, ron desantis, winning handily last night with 1.6 million more votes than democratic congressman charlie crist, the former governor in that state, a state that had long been considered a battleground state, a purple state." one more focus on donald
7:23 am
trump, this from politico, talking about the takeaways last night, donald trump may be damaged goods. governor brian kemp in georgia, whose resistance to overturning the results infuriated trump, easily defeating his democratic opponent. governor chris sununu, who once referred to trump as crazy cruised to reelection. his preferred candidate in ohio, j.d. vance, did better, but he came nowhere close to the margin that mike dewine, more traditional republican, had put up in that state. that from politico, looking at the takeaways from last night. one more donald trump post from truth social, focusing on dan bullock in his senate race in new hampshire. the former president saying that bullock was a nice guy who lost when he disavowed after his big
7:24 am
primary when his long-standing stance on election fraud in the 2020 presidential primary. "had he stayed strong and true, he would have one easily. lesson learned," is what he wrote. and this from marjorie taylor greene, saying that she wished he had announced monday night in ohio that he was running into thousand 24 but he chose to put everyone else first, having held 30 rallies in 17 states plus teller rallies with candidate fundraisers, endorsing 285 candidates while being politically persecuted and she writes that the former president put everyone else first all along. host: the latest from the former president. from twitter, deborah saying we are still counting in nevada, biting her nails. looks like the incumbent bookkeeper senate seat i'm so
7:25 am
grateful. this from twitter, cynthia saying that the traditional midterm narrative fails when it's the most nontraditional midterm in history. republicans offering nothing but chaos, voters realizing that's a bad choice when the country faces so many challenges. let's hear from dwight in fairfield, california, independent line. caller: good morning, pedro. very interesting night. haven't gone to sleep yet, it's a little after 4:00. the race was pretty good. i'm -- i am independent but i am hoping that the republicans take the house. we definitely need a divided government and hopefully if the republicans take the house, it will be interesting to see what they are going to do about the borders. the borders are not about policy, they are about codifying the law.
7:26 am
let's see what laws they come up with to close the borders. it will be interesting to see what they do about inflation. this is a free-market capitalist country. these corporations can sell us gas or anything else at the price that we are going to bear. it's going to be really interesting to see what mccarthy and all his people talking we are going to do this and that, there are three main things. inflation, the borders, and crime. host: do you think that if they win the power in the house but not by a wide margin they will be more inclined to do that versus other things they talked about like investigations and the like? caller: oh they are deftly going to spearhead investigations if they do take the house by a huge margin. they are not going to do anything. their number one priority, contrary to what they tell us is the investigations.
7:27 am
they are lawmakers that haven't made laws. that is going to be there priorities. i bet you 10 to one on that, pedro. i will call you back in 30 days -- well, it won't be 30 days. after mccarthy takes over. host: john, sandusky, ohio. caller: how you doing, pedro? what happened last night was simple. republicans got their mounts snapped. they thought that trump hotels would take them into a red wave and it didn't happen. poster child for that is here in ohio. ajay mccue ski was running the can with marcy until trump-endorsed him and then it just went blubber, blubber, flub. the republicans just got to stand up to trump and say hey, pal, want to endorse somebody?
7:28 am
fine but it's time to move on, time to move on from trump. host: what did you think about j.d. vance winning over tim ryan? caller: people were not happy with ryan because he constantly supported biden spending all this tax money. he never one time stood up to biden and said no. the people in ohio just got tired of that. just can't keep throwing money, throwing money, throwing money. mike dewine, that was no big surprise, he's really very popular here in ohio. that was a done deal. host: were you yourself a j.d. vance supporter? caller: yes i voted for j.d. vance, but i also voted for marcy chapter. let me say this about me, i've always voted split ticket since 1980, voted what i felt was the best person for the job and i
7:29 am
think that's what we need to get back to in this country. host: ok. john, there, ohio. let's hear from diane in iowa. democratic line, hello. caller: thank you for taking my call. this is my first time calling. i just wanted to say the take away last night from the elections was i was kind of disappointed in the fact that there are so many americans i find out the price of democracy is just the promise of a tank of gas and a frozen turkey. thank god that our founding fathers were not bought off so easily. i say promise, not product. there was never any discussion by any republicans on how they would do anything different in addressing inflation. as we all know, that's the global thing right now. it's not isolated to the united states.
7:30 am
the other thing is i just wanted to say that i think america is just the greatest country and i think it's great because america is proactive not reactive. progress, not regress. it might take time to pull people's -- kicking and screaming to the right side of history but it is slowly getting done. again, i'm just disappointed in so many americans that would throw away democracy for the promise of something that the people who promise it have no way to deliver. host: your state elected chuck grassley for an eighth term in office. what do you think about that? caller: it's absolutely nuts. he's been around too long. he's not the senator he was years ago. he was in office starting the year i was born, if you can believe that.
7:31 am
to tell you the truth i'm in steve king's home district and i could not hardly find a grassley yard sign everywhere -- anywhere. as opposed to michael franken, i could find multiple of those for every grassley sign that i saw. it is quite surprising and he ran one of the nastiest campaigns he's ever run. host: let's go to douglas in staten island, new york. independent line, go ahead. caller: how are you, pedro? host: fine, thank you. caller: i want to comment on what i see occurring even on the democratic stations, talking about this new powerhouse titan colossus coming in florida. florida being a purple state, i've been watching this for many years. it's not really purple. it's read. the amount of hispanics there
7:32 am
basically are getting older, they are not getting younger. younger people are not staying there. when you have over one million hispanics turning 18 every year, they are not going to florida. the people going to florida are from outside, they don't want to pay taxes and things of that nature. the politics that the santos played, this inheriting basically from the voters registration 1.4 million felons with his capricious behavior there regarding that, getting the legislature there to turn that over, telling them that the, the way that they set up the districts there, the gerrymandering wasn't harsh enough, so he got them to do what they did there. doing away with young voters who basically, the law that they passed the a sickly set anyone with a temporary residence, meaning you are resigning out of
7:33 am
college, you can't vote. host: that's florida, but let's talk about your state. what did you think of governor hogan's reelection? -- governor hogle's reelection? caller: closer than i thought it would be. jonathan swift said fear -- no, it was rousseau, great founder of our principles there of our founding fathers there who said that fear is worth -- worse than death because it holds the mind hostage. that's what you have. he showed up at every place in this city of 8.3 million people, showing up at every place there was a crime. a holdup up, stabbing, shooting. he would rush over there, invite the press, look what's going on. it worked. it worked a lot. she was only a winner by 300,000 votes. i'm surprised we bought that so easily there. but that's what happens. shortsighted, unfortunately.
7:34 am
host: that was douglas in new york. marianne, pennsylvania. caller: good morning, thank you for having me on the show and for being there. i just wanted to comment that i look at the factors before i vote, i mean i vote either way, looking at the independent people who are running. what i voted on this year is the fact that the and after 9/11, the economy was not that bad. world peace was not as bad as it is now. domestic safety wasn't as bad. immigration security wasn't as bad. everybody keeps saying the unemployment number is so low. people don't realize you are only on unemployment for six months and then you are dropped off and put on public assistance. they need to be looking at the public assistance numbers, how many more people are on public
7:35 am
assistance then were back when trump was in office? i'm disappointed in seeing that for most people, i've seen interviews on the shows, the right to murder a baby in a womb is more important to them than being able to find food that you can afford. yesterday i went to the store and a head of lettuce was $6.99. i'm on fixed income, i'm disabled and a senior citizen. this was atrocious. they were pushing low income people into the gutter for the sake of abortion. i think that's a very sad state that our country is in right now . i'm not blaming the people, it's just like it's a whole trend that people are caught up in, focusing on the wrong thing. host: that's marianne in pennsylvania, part of several calls we will take throughout the morning about the election from yesterday. we will be bringing you information about where the races stand.
7:36 am
if you want to participate, (202) 748-8000 free democrats, -- for democrats, (202) 748-8001 for republicans, and for independents, (202) 748-8001. to text us, (202) 748-8002. here's johnle wh more information. host: 64 races are yet to be called, 190 nine races called for repns, 0 72 call for democrats. a rr, 2 are needed for the majority. the calls have been made by the associated press. let's focus on some of those races. want to come to this chart from politico that was focusing on the most competitive races in the house this cycle. politico rated 71 races as likely to be narrow wins for either side and right now democrats have been the winners
7:37 am
and more of those races and if you look at the chart, the races that were leaning democrat, doing very well in that category, only losing one of them in new york third district. to the far right in that column, those that were leaning republican, republicans doing as expected, winning those leaning republican races. look at the tossup category in the middle. right now nine of them have been called. eight of them called for democrats and just one for republicans. remember these were supposed to be the coin flip races that could go either way and democrats doing well in the tossup races so far. let's take viewers through a couple of those tossup races that have yet to be called this morning. including in the 27th district in ohio -- in california. the challenge there, 54% for david valvano, 46% for rudy
7:38 am
salai's with 41% reporting in the district. staying in the california 49th district, mike levin leading 51% to 49%. 48% reporting at this pot. to connecticut, jnnhayes, the democratic incumbent there, leading 59% to 47%. almost all districts rorng at this. and then one more, two more for yo eric sorensen, the democrat in the illinois 17th district race, leading esther joy king, the republican in e race. 48 point 3% with 86% reporting there. one more for you, that new york th district race. the democrat, josh riley there, 48.9%. ch mullen arrow, the
7:39 am
republican, 51.1%. these tossup races are very close. they will be what determines control of the house, of course. some of these races as in california could take several days for final reports but we will keep updating you if any of those are called. host: kathy this morning saying that she's baffled by the elections, 75% of the country not happy about the directi of the country, the presidential approval rating is at7% but still democrats wning because of abortion, states it will never takehe abortion right away. sad. in illinois they said if we learned nothing else on the election and the campaign season leading up to it, neither joe biden or donald trump or even pop -- very pular at all. even with their own parties. let's hope they take the hint and come up with better candidates than these duds in the next election.
7:40 am
want to text us, you can do that at (202) 748-8003. good morning. caller: good morning, pedro. how are you? host: doing good, go ahead. caller: go to. i'm an 80-year-old black woman who has been voting since 1960 when i voted for president kennedy. pedro, i have been up all night long, praying for the democratic party, for them to hold the house and to hold the senate. i don't think the average person, the average people understand that the republicans, and i'm not against anybody, but they are for the companies, they are for the corporations. when it comes down to social security, i do not get social security. i retired from the u.s.
7:41 am
government and i get senior retirement with the government. but there are people going to end up on social security, that's going to be on the chopping block if the republicans win. rick scott has made it very plain that he's going to present it every year. that if it's not feasible for the budget, they gonna just chop it. not only that, they just talking about president biden, who just got the pharmaceutical companies where they would negotiate and bring the prices down. they want to go back and get the pharmaceutical companies, give them the right to charge us for the medications like they used to. i don't think the average person understands that you could lose everything. they say don't believe that
7:42 am
these people would take social security, which they really will . and the medicare and medicaid. but i'm still praying to god that he will keep the democrats with the house and the senate. host: ok. that's virginia in orlando. tom, hello. caller: comment on california, we were gerrymandered in the 1980's, basically gave the democrats an average 70% majority in all of our various districts. in addition to that, a law was passed to only allow the top two candidates to run for reelection. with a 70% majority it ended up
7:43 am
being two democrats. the republicans don't really have any type of power. we've been disenfranchised in we don't have enough brains to change it. as far as my new governor is concerned, nancy pelosi's nephew will do well. we have surpluses we are not using. the gas tax, sitting there. we need to have a little bit better individual grassroots to get out of the situation we are in. host: ok. ron, california. christopher in grass valley says that republican voter turnout in california not more than 25%, according to him, which he says seems like a lot of apathy.
7:44 am
jo ellen in new york saying that it was incredible to see these numbers. some supported by less than 100,000 votes, they control our destiny. texting is available at (202) 748-8003. you can call us on the phone lines are post on social media. we are talking about elections this week, election 2022 coverage is a part of our coverage today. jim, highland park, new jersey, democratic line. caller: what i have to say is my chrissy is -- was deaf -- definitely on the ballot. definitely. the other issues were secondary. as far as the agenda the republicans have, they want to

dismantle and eliminate the programs that were enacted through the efforts of the democrats over the decades. now also, trump is a detriment to democracy. he has proven it time and time again. get it through your heads, those who are trump supporters. because trump is a dictator. an autocrat. a monic rat. that's all i have to say for now. host: that was jim in new jersey, there. joey, south carolina.

first i want to start by thanking every single candidate and their families for running. i also want to thank the staff and volunteers across the country that supported this movement. thank you to everyone who voted republican for the very first time. and i want to thank the millions of supporters across the country . you know, two years ago when i became leader, republicans had less than 200 seats in the house. that cycle we picked up 14 seats when every single person said that would be impossible. if you believe in freedom, hard work, and the american dream, these results proved there is a place for you in the republican party. now, tonight, we built upon those gains from two years ago.

this is mike in maryland. republican line. caller: we are all americans. the big problem i am seeing, we are demonizing each other. it doesn't make sense. republicans and democrats want the same thing. we all want to have our children to go to good schools, we want our children to be safe. we want everyone to be taken care of. trump had really good points during the swamp. i contacted the government and i have seen the condition it is. we need local level governors -- local level governments taking power in health care, planning to get things moving in the local communities. that is the best thing for the country. going forward we cannot have these top-down, top-heavy doing this. it is not sustainable.
8:43 am
doing it from the ground up would be much better. schools in neighborhoods. it is very simple. we did top-down. we have the agile to change our ways. host: let's hear from patricia in california, independent line. caller: if anything comes out of this, we have got to talk across the aisle and we have got to think about morals and we have got to think about integrity. if we cannot, we need to do something else. we don't want monarchy. it seems it is about a king all
8:44 am
the time or somebody who wants to rule. that is not what the people want. we want to be altogether as one. host: do you think that is possible if there is a divided congress where the republicans hold the house and the democrats hold the senate? caller: isn't that just like if you have a business, you sit everybody down and say we are all here to get along to prosper? i don't get where the stupidity comes in. host: what do you mean by that? caller: it is immaturity and stupidity when we all want the same things. how can we keep going on if we are not going to talk across the aisle and give the people what they want? and stop being so selfish.
8:45 am
host: patricia they in california. jackson is next. he is in washington dc, democrats line. caller: i want to raise a point about the anti-intellectualism from the right. it has got to stop nominating people like herschel walker in georgia. these are people we wouldn't trust to be our grocery store clerks and we want to send these people to the united states senate where they will be making decisions that impact all of us. it is not just people that reside in georgia. we have to do better. this is an appeal to republicans that there are smart, intellectual republicans. donald trump is not a smart man. there was a time when conservatives had thought meters
8:46 am
like william buckley. these people, these anti-intellectual people like donald trump, marjorie taylor greene, we have to do better. we have to have expectations that the people we send to congress are smart and capable. and not just speak from talking points but they get there and do absolutely nothing to push america forward. hopefully there are some republicans out there listening that agree that there are better candidates that they can put forward that would force us on the left to do better and think better and come up with agendas that benefits everybody. host: let's hear from bill in north carolina, independent line. caller: your last collars statements about intellectual
8:47 am
and personality. we seem to be electing leaders, as an independent, i have listened to a lot of statements these candidates have made. none of them really seem to address real issues that we face in our society as people, as a world. climate counsel -- the u.n. climate council released and report the other day that we are facing a 27 degree rise in fahrenheit temperature. i haven't seen one candidate in all the debate that has taken the time to sit and address how we would approach that issue. we have over 1500 nuclear weapons right now that are pointing at our european neighbors and they have over 2000 that are pointing at us. right now we have more -- right now we have war in europe raising -- war in europe raging.
8:48 am
how are we going to address that? if we don't tackle those issues, all of this has been an exercise in futility. if we don't come together as a people and have leaders that will address these issues. host: donna is in florida, republican line. caller: i don't have much to complain about since i do live in florida. i just don't understand why people on the democratic side are moving to our state and they go and vote democrat. look at how you are living in daily life. is it easier or is it harder? that is what it comes down to. that last guy, he is in it he. donald trump is very smart. he is smart enough to have a
8:49 am
maga. people just love him. he might not be so eloquently speaking, but i would lather -- i will rather have mean tweets any day of the week. host: let's hear from another floridian. governor ron desantis, part of his victory speech from last night which you can still see on our website at c-span.org and on our app. here is a part of the governor addressing his supporters early on before the state races had been called. [video clip] gov. desantis: over these past four years we have seen major challenges for the people of this state, the citizens of the united state and above all for the cause of freedom. we saw freedom in our very way of life. so many other jurisdictions in this country with her on the vine. -- wither on the vine.
8:50 am
florida held the line. we chose fax over fear, we chose education over indoctrination. [applause] we chose law and order over rioting and disorder. florida was a refuge of sanity when the world went mad. we stood as a citadel of freedom for people across this country and across the world. [applause] we faced attacks. we took the hits. we weathered the storms. but we stood our ground. we did not back down. we had the conviction to guide us and we had the courage to lead. we made promises. [applause] we made promises to the people
8:51 am
of florida and we have delivered on those promises. [applause] today after four years, the people have delivered their verdict. freedom is here to stay. [applause] >> two more years! gov. desantis: thank you very much. now thanks to the overwhelming support of the people of florida, we not only won election, we have rewritten the political map. [applause] thank you for honoring us with a win for the ages. i want to thank all of our
8:52 am
campaign staff from campaign manager. this was the best run campaign in the history of florida politics. [applause] i want to thank all of those who worked so hard to get out the vote. i would not have been able to see the level of accomplishments we saw unless i had outstanding personnel working in the executive office of the governor as well as head and state agencies. these folks worked hard to implement our agenda. they believed in our agenda and the results have been historic. thank you for your support and work.
8:53 am
[applause] thank you to miami-dade county. [applause] thank you to palm beach county. we are still tallying the votes but it is appearing -- it is apparent we will have garnet votes for people who did not vote for me for years ago. i am honored to have joined -- i am honored to have earned your trust. host: let's hear from shea in maryland, democrat line. caller: it appears from looking at the results right now, this was no --. it is an indictment on biden.
8:54 am
i am a hard left progressive. i am a younger voter. this democratic party needs to get younger leaders in this party. this maga, cult, racist republican party we are seeing, joe biden is not as energetic. he does not bring out a lot of voters. in regards to kevin mccarthy and the republicans, i don't think he is going to be the speaker of the us if they have a two or threeea lead going into january, if they want the house, they are going to pick somebody like jim jordan or somebody that is a maga to run it. which we do not want. host: let's go back to john mcardle. >> let's go back to the peach state. the latest batch of election returns coming in within the
8:55 am
past 15 minutes or so. here is the latest on that georgia senate race. senator rafael warnock 49.4%. 1,000,900 35,464 votes to herschel walker's 48 point 5%. just over 1,900,000. right now it is a 35,000 vote margin. in georgia a candidate needs to get 50% plus one to avoid a december 6 runoff. georgia already one of the most expensive senate races this cycle. if it goes to a runoff, it will be even more so. speaking of the cost of elections this cycle, open secrets is a website we often use to take a look at the money hind the campaigning and the politics. a recent analysis on the total cost of this election cycle, the total cost of the 2022 state and federal elections projected to
8:56 am
exceed $16.7 billion. those bar graphs on the right. according to open secrets analysis, state candidates and ballot measures we talked about are on track to raise 8.7 billion dollars. you can compare it to those other bar graphs. in 2018 it was about $14 billion in spending and 9.5 billion dollars in spending. when it comes to which races were the most expensive, the top 10, 4 of the five senate races yet to be called are on that list. most expensive race this cycle, the pennsylvania race where john fetterman one. the democratic lieutenant governor. georgia and arizona, to races yet to be called. ohio and wisconsin yet to be called. nevada yet to be called.
8:57 am
north carolina, florida senate, new hampshire and missouri rounding out the top 10. open secrets.org, a website we often use. a lot of information there if you are interested in the money behind the politics. host: from louisiana, independent line. hello. caller: we still have a country of idiocy. stalin would be proud. i don't trust the democrats or the republicans. you have got rhinos in the republicans and you have got marxist and the democrats. this country deserves what it gets. if you ever had a -- stuck, that is what is getting ready to happen to this country. it is going to be bad. good luck. y'all have a good day. host: david in pennsylvania, republican line. caller: i have got a comment
8:58 am
about mr.fetterman. the republicans were looking for a seat to fill. the man has got health problems. he just shouldn't do it. i cannot understand why people in pennsylvania, democrats would vote for that man. host: let's hear from lawrence in st. paul, minnesota. independent line. caller: i want to comment on something you talked about a few calls ago about how do we govern as a divided government. another caller talked about it. just because you win 51, 40 nine, that is not a mandate. that says you need to reach across the aisle to govern together. we have far too many people win
8:59 am
and believe that is a mandate. we need particularly at the federal level, we need to recognize the constitution limits the power of government. as the caller previously talked about, we need more control at the state and local level and less at the federal level. if there is any message i would tell any politician, it is reach across the aisle. start from the constitution out, not the extreme in. thank you for the opportunity. host: let's hear from roberta in san diego, republican line. caller: i sit here and watch our country and i am very concerned. everybody wants to call names and do this and that and the other. it is not doing any good for anyone.
9:00 am
we sit here with the most dangerous drug this country has ever seen, worse than the atomic bomb and that is fit no -- that is fentanyl. we have all these people in this country acting like it is no big deal. people where i live acting like it is no big deal. people in the democratic party don't want to talk about it. host: we have done two hours taking your calls talking about the results. we are going to carry on throughout the course of the morning, not only getting your calls, also getting information about where the various races stands. election 2022 continues after this.
9:01 am

9:03 am
approval ratings in the democrats are doing so well in the election? host: you can also text us or post on our facebook page, at facebook.com/c-span. we will be taking all of those comments to the course of the morning. we will be showing you various speeches that candidates have made throughout the course last night into early this morning. the senate race in arizona still yet to be decided. mark kelly of arizona, surprised to talk some of his constituents. here is his portion. >> i cannot imagine how many people would take out of part of our lives or chipped in. i made a decision to not take a dime of tax money because i wanted arizonans to know that i was only working for them. [applause]
9:04 am
that meant i was relying on folks to support us a few books at a time. since then, we had more than one million individual people voting. with most of them giving $25 or less. it is incredibly humbling. it was important to me to run my campaign that way. from day one, this campaign for me has not been about name-calling or defining people, it is about telling the truth. [applause] >> it has been about bringing together republicans, democrats, independents on every part of our state focusing on solving the problem.
9:05 am
this has been a tough election, no matter how the rest of the results shake outcome our government will remain divided with a lot more work to do. that can feel daunting. that is democracy. that is how it is supposed to work. it is our responsibility to find common ground and solve problems together. we do have serious challenges in front of us. arizonans are facing high cost from everything, gas, grocery, housing. our country faces threats from an emerging china and russia's continued aggression. and broken immigration system, both of which need to be fixed. [applause] our state in the west, we are
9:06 am
facing a historic drought. that caused the shortage of the colorado river. the fundamental right for a woman to make her own decision about abortion. [applause] that has been taken away. here is the thing, the way to solve these problems isn't by pointing fingers and dividing people, it is by listening and finding common ground. now, in the last statement he gave before he died, john mccain said, we have always had so much more in common with each other than in disagreements. if only we remember that and give each other the benefit of the resumption that we all love our country -- presumption that
9:07 am
we all love our country, we will get through these challenging times. [applause] he was on to say we will come through them stronger than before, we always do. i believe that too. it just does not happen on its own. it requires us to be active participants in our democracy, to demand the truth from our elective leaders and to find the common ground that we know exists, but can sometimes be hard to see. that is when we are strongest. there is no country in the world better at solving big problems than the united states of america. we put people on the moon in the 1960's. we are about to do it again [applause] . then we will go on to mars. we are capable of extraordinary things when we come together and
9:08 am
put our minds to it. that is who we are. we create, innovate, build. that is what we are capable of when our leaders focus on unity rather than division. [applause] when we tell the truth and one we see common ground, when we work to move forward, not backwards. host: let's go to mary in kentucky. democrats line. caller: i just had to call and say i am so tired of republicans calling in and i do not like that they are such big christians. i am a democrat, i am a christian. i am not religious. i am happy it went purple. i am happy about that. my brothers and sisters in georgia let me down. they could have made that a blue
9:09 am
victory. i guess they did not turn out. they turned out for biden. i am so tired of these religious people calling in telling me i am not a christian because i'm not religious. host: dave in st. petersburg, florida. independent line. good morning. caller: thank you for taking my call. i was a republican and voted for trump in 2016 and 2020. in february of 2020i left the republican party for the first time in my life, that was after the insurrection. i believe now that trump is a incredible drag on the republican party. i called for all republicans to wake up. we got two years or we are going to lose in 2024 as well. the santos and a camp or the
9:10 am
biggest winners last night and they had nothing to do with trump. republicans better wake up. i am going to give you the challenge. the day after trump declares his candidacy for presidency, i challenge all republicans to lead the republican party the next day. go to your county website and lead the republican party, you can still get back in for the 2024 election. it will send a message that you can't send today because the republican party does not want to listen to the republicans that do not want trump. i will tell you what, your departure from the party will speak loud and clear. please do that. thank you. host: this is ann in new york. republican line. caller: i feel that many of the democrats are about to paint a
9:11 am
misconception of the republican principles. i also feel that many of the younger generation do not understand in my opinion that we are a republic and we have democratic values, but we have rough representation. i feel that the media also is not objective. i feel that they concentrate too much on the republicans as far as, god forbid what happened to nancy pelosi husband was horrible. they do not honestly state that the person who did the horrific act did not have anything to do with trump, he had a black lives matter flag in front of his house. i do not see anyone -- democrats
9:12 am
cry when a republican gop had -- when his appearance with they shot in his window. host: let's take it back to the election from yesterday. what do you think of the results in new york? caller: the media plays -- not necessarily c-span, the media do not necessarily -- honest as far as straightforward news in being objective. i think i has a lot to do with the election the way people voted. i think -- one thing i disagree with is that, john mccain talk about money -- about the money being spent. i think it is very wrong for big celebrities that do not live in the states of georgia and the
9:13 am
other stays to put billions of dollars in the state they do not live in. host: let's go to john. host: a little after 9:00 on the east coast. i want to remind viewers where we are in the midterm elections. it is not over yet. five races yet to be called, those will detecontl of the chamber. alaska, a, georgia, nevada, wisc democrats will only need two of those fiveo matain control them0 votes in the senate.give they will have the type breaking vote with the vice president. that stands in the senate, shifting over to the house side, there are 64 races yet to be lled. republicans with 199 seats at the moment. democrats with democrats still with nrow
9:14 am
chance to load onto their ty ithe house. the is a lot of talk of races out there if most all of them fall democrats where they can still control that chamber, needing to 18 to control that chamber. around 20 tossup races still out there, some high-profile races including patrick maloney, we are expected to hear from him in under two hours about his new york contact which is coming down to the wire. a lot to continue to watch in the house and the senate. here's how the associated press described the election night. nope sweep for republicans after all, 13 or grab from their story noting that one thing that is certain, it is unlikely to match -- which -- or the in 1954 which
9:15 am
opted 54 democts and flipped ntrol. one reason that that will not happen, there are just not that many competitive seats. that is the prediction they are from the associated press round up from last night. lots more to talk about. we have been talking about all morning long. one of the issues is valid measures, specifically on the issue of abortion rights -- valid measures, specifically on the issue of abortion rights and states around the country. here is the latest news this morning from state reporter, writinthat the associated press now calls kentucky's have rejected and amended in the state that would say that
9:16 am
the state constitution contains no right to abortion. what more measure -- one more measure in montana to be called as well. we will see what happens. host: mary is next. virginia. democrats line. caller: before election day, i made up my mind i was not going to vote, as it got closer, i said maybe i will vote. on the election day i was going to vote but then -- the way that they have been doing that medicare part c thing really angered me because it has been under democrats as well as republicans where they are trying to backdoor this program in. everybody knows it is a scam. they are going to cut your benefits off to a private company. everyone knows it is going to happen. that is hunter biden doing that. -- hunter biden. the other program, they are trying to combine lifeline
9:17 am
phoneline services in the affordable connectivity program, they are trying to combine the two with the two separate programs. they're not telling you that they are trying to do that either. that is disabled, retired, low income. host: did you vote or not? caller: no, i didn't. host: do you regret that? caller: there was nobody on my side. i just think they do not work for me. i do not know why. host: williamsburg, virginia. henry is in tampa, florida. republican line. good morning. caller: i voted republican. i have to say that as much as i did vote republican tonight are last night, have to say, the --
9:18 am
party is dead, it is dying. it is no coming back. i am ok with that. the problem is, is the rest of the country ok with that? that is all i can say. host: ready think that leads to your governor if he decides to run for president? caller: i would vote desantis because that would take the smaller people. i would rather have him then donald trump. i would speak for pretty much every floridian. we are trying to not divide the countries. ron desantis opened the borders when covid hit. it hit us hard. desantis opened up the borders.
9:19 am
i am sorry. i am having a little trouble hearing. host: it is ok. democrats line. caller: i voted democrat. i voted the state democratic ticket all the way down. the republican party has been taken over by trump and his wackos. i just feel we need a new direction in this country that somebody should take. republican party to be a pretty good party at one time. what has happened to it? it has been taken over by all of these wackos, they want to cut and give tax cut breaks to all of these people who do not even need it. they do not even recognize the poor anymore. they recognize the rich, middle-class, that as it appeared they do not recognize the poor.
9:20 am
democrats do recognize the poor. president biden is doing everything he can to help the people. he is not perfect, nobody is. i understand that. i think the democrats had a pretty good night last night. people like myself voted democrats because -- i am 63 years old. i do not want to see my future put on the chopping block and everything like that, just for some regional president who needs a tax break. we are stuck in the 80's and we need to come out of there. host: let's hear from shane in kentucky. republican line. caller: i turned from democrat to republican four months ago.
9:21 am
first time i listened and called in. host: let's keep on the topic of elections. what did you think of the elections overall? caller: it is great. i am going to be happy with any decisions from last night. i really am. host: why? caller: mitch mcconnell in kentucky, i would never vote for him never again. i would never vote for a democrat again. i will vote for the devil before i vote them. host: shame in kentucky. let's hear from another republican who won a victory -- shane in kentucky. let's hear from another republican who won a victory. [video clip]
9:22 am
>> i think we get a chance to govern. if i am being honest with you, i think we will continue to have good victories all across the country's. we have to city returns come in. we have given an opportunity to do something, that is to govern, govern to make the lives of the people in ohio better. that is exactly what i aim to do. because of you, i get a chance to do it. i got a call about an hour ago conceding the election. i appreciate him making the effort. i know tim ryan, we disagreed on a lot of issues. the guy loves the state of ohio. i appreciate the effort his campaign put in. thank you. [applause] i spent time with these guys a few mats ago and talking about
9:23 am
what an incredible honor -- few minutes ago and talked about what and honor it is to run this campaign, win or lose i said it is one of the coolest experiences of our life. what we need to do over the next six years for the full length of this senate term, whoever is in the majority, whatever the president looks like, we have a very simple job to do. go to work every single day and fight for the people of ohio, our workers. [applause] fight for our family, the people who are struggling for the opioid addiction problem, the single moms struggling to raise babies just like my mom raised me. we have got a great state and great country. to the people of ohio i have to say something, we won a very good victory.
9:24 am
because of all of you. whether you voted for me or not, if you are watching on tv you, the things that i promised to do is go to the united states senate and fight every single day for the people of ohio. thanks to you, we get an opportunity to do that. [applause] host: ohio senator elect j.d. vance from last night earlier this morning talking about the race there. we will be showing you portions of victory in speeches. you can call in and give your thoughts of the results that we have seen so far on this elective. (202) 748-8000 democrats. (202) 748-8001 republicans. (202) 748-8002 independents. on the democrats line. carol. caller: i work the election for
9:25 am
17 hours yesterday. right now the computers did not work and are they had to be hand-delivered because the computers were not working. while i was working the election, -- we would have people come in and we had to deny them because they had been transferred to shirley, they lived a block from where they had been voting. they had been there for 50 years. because we changed all of these voters, people were going to west -- how many of those people , why bother? after this election, i just look at why the hell are we
9:26 am
voting? in pennsylvania a man who had a stroke. we have a president of the united states who does not know what day it is. i had three concussions at the same time and i stopped working as a registered nurse. i did not feel confident to work as a registered nurse. we have a president who does not have what day it is. we have a -- in pennsylvania who does not know what day it is. host: i do not know if that is the case. caller: i do not know. we do not know what has been done because most of the computers are down. host: we will go to new york. democrats line. caller: this is always -- two
9:27 am
important votes. i am a strong democrat. this was not the right way after all. this house is going to be divided almost 50-50. the next step for democrats is to reach out to all of those republicans who are elected to congress as republicans and ask them to get together in a conference and decide if they can come up with a speaker of the house who might be on the democratic side, even if it is amongst the current republicans who would be willing to switch to the democratic side and vote for someone other than kevin mccartney, who is the ultimate traitor to america, who could not keep his story straight and well onto support trump. there is no reason we can't get
9:28 am
such obvious results that people do not want republicans in charge, even when things seem worse than they are. some of these republicans can decide if want to put an end to the election and moved to a statute and change it to democrats and get some others than nancy pelosi if speakership and the majority. host: ok. let's hear from william in pennsylvania. it republican line. caller: yes. first of all, john fetterman is suing the state for the mail-in ballots. the state just rolled that it is unconstitutional but he is taking it to court -- ruled it is unconstitutional, but he is taking into court. you guys said that pennsylvania was going to be accounted for weeks and weeks, but it got counted in one day. that is strange.
9:29 am
one more thing, i got a call. if any other pennsylvanians saw that call, you should be calling your state representative and estate senator and complain. this is wrong. pennsylvania is wrong. you guys are robbing pennsylvania. you guys are doing mail in ballots when you are saying they count and are unconstitutional. that was two days ago. it is unconstitutional. he is going against the state. host: you made your point. let's go to kentucky. democrats line. caller: i have a coming up the florida election feared how can all of these people who claim they are christian elect a governor who removed the bible from their school library and claim they love our kids? host: republican line.
9:30 am
this is john. also from florida in centre held. republican line. caller: i just wanted to talk about the florida election today. desantis. i do have to say on some other issues on the other parts of the republican party, i get trump. i understand it. how do you get more voters in this? i do not understand how we can go through all of that and still have these people, these congress that are basically -- you know. they are pretty much racist.
9:31 am
something has got to give. we have to do something to get these people off the republican party. host: we will hear next from robbie in california. democratic line. caller: i was a republican now i am independent. i still vote republican. i am a trump supporter. i hope that trump runs in 2024. i hope that he does not have desantis running with him. i hope he has elder reading with him or someone who is going to be an african-american -- running with him or someone who is going to be an african-american. also, federman and oz was a
9:32 am
odd couple. why would you put a patient over a doctor? i think that federman is not well. if they do not let people who are disabled work on these jobs, why would they let him run in office russian mark i am on ce? i am on disability. why would they elect a patient over a doctor. i believe trump is a leader, he is strong and i do believe in nafta. host: that is robbie in florida. we have been taking your calls for about two and a half hours with many hours to go. you can call us as far as results of the election and you can talk about specific rates of what you seem overall. (202) 748-8000, democrats. (202) 748-8001, republicans.
9:33 am
(202) 748-8002 independents. you can text us as well. margaret in michigan. we will hear from our democrats line. hello. next? caller: hello? i was just going to ask them when that man said that the democrats were trying to get rid of social security -- no. the republicans are trying to get away with that. so much disinformation. no wonder everybody is so confused these days. host: the republican proposal by some. there are several sites that you
9:34 am
can check for yourself as far as those claims as far as social security and medicare. the republican line. caller: my question will be for you. the caller he admitted he voted democrat on his ticket and puts down trump. you let him talk. the next caller calls in and he is a republican and he voted all the way down and he mentioned trump. why would you cut that guy off and let the other guy bash trump on the democrat line? host: i do not let anyone bash anyone intentionally. what do you have to say as far as you are calling in about the election? caller: it was clear cut you let the democrat talk about trump and you do not let the other guy talk.
9:35 am
i voted republican. i do not see how anyone could see how the direction is going. host: that is very in new jersey. we will hear from denise. caller: hello. you asked about where we think that some people think that -- did not win. it was not for us. i am not affiliated whatsoever. my whole family is. even though we believe we are republican, we watched this whole thing. it surprised me that we are seeing in the knowledge they have the problems that they had after all of these years that this goes on and is still not counted.
9:36 am
all of a sudden all of these counties just flipped. it was not surprising that the race went into hochuls favor. something is wrong with the voting system here. it really needs to be audited and investigated. there is a problem in new york. no way 13 counties holds. this has been a state that has been very hard from the last few years. trump, having him come into office and everything like that we expected it. we watched the state deteriorate. it is not going to get any better right now. this is going to be a divided state. it is sad. something has to be done. host: we have been showing you speeches from last night. let's hear from stacey abrams, part of her concession speech

and her run as governor in georgia. [video clip] >> it is good to be here in the moment surrounded by your love and support. congratulations to governor kent. our state has experienced one soul crushing crisis when after another over the past two years. even during these trying times, the fighting spirit of georgia has prevailed. we have seen what is possible when we stand up for our neighbors and protect each other. we make sacrifices. we pitch in. we seem each other fight at our own and we done things we never thought we could. it is in the spirit of that endurance and in that persistence, that i decided again to run for governor. [applause]
9:38 am
>> look. to fight. not a city fighter, a fight to save georgia. in fight on behalf of our children and generations to come. a fight on behalf of our people, whether they know it or not. a fight for basic human rights that we should take for granted but we have to struggle to hold onto. a fight for the values that we hold dear and we may never sacrifice. i got into this for a fight for what we know to be true deep down in our bones. the state of georgia, the people of georgia deserve more. over the last year in big cities, small towns, living rooms, classrooms across the states, i have met thousands of
9:39 am
people face-to-face. it feels like 3 million. here is what i know for sure. we come from different backgrounds, religions, speak different languages, we have different dreams and we are still passionate about different issues in different ways. despite our differences, despite what people will tell us separates us, for the most part we want the same things. we want to live in a georgia that works for everyone. a georgette where every person has a voice in our democracy and does not have to show up early to make it so. voting is a fundamental right, not a privilege for the wealthy few. in georgia where we can breathe clean air and drink clean water because we decided to use our power and it save our planet, not drill down take titanium out

9:47 am
elect a senator with the health problems that he has me just shows that politics and voting has become more about money and power that it has about trying to get issues of settled. i just think it is a disgrace to the american country to have elect a senator by cuisine in the debates like we have in pennsylvania -- likely seen in the debates like pennsylvania. i am very worried about the future and how voting is going to look. it is the same places that seems to bring problems every election. pennsylvania, georgia, a little bit of a wisconsin. maybe it is about taking money out of politics to spend 35 million more in ohio to get j.d. vance elected is a disgrace. people want to talk about
9:48 am
charity and all of these other polls. maybe it is time to take money out of politics and let these guys debate the old-fashioned way and set rules. maybe they all need to have three debates. to have federman debate in late october when everybody has voted in august is just mind-boggling. host: let's hear from a independent viewer from ocala, florida. tina. caller: yes. i am a independent. i have been an independent from the beginning because i always wanted the right person for the job. with that said, being in florida, desantis i know he does not mean any people of color any good. we all knew that from the beginning. we are used to it. we live with it. i hope everybody got who they

9:50 am
i am shocked that he won to be president. host: let's go back to federman. caller: he is a resident of pennsylvania. he has worked hard for the people of pennsylvania always and he always will. by him having a stroke, you do not vote for him because he had a stroke? you must be out of your mind. if your son or daughter had a stroke, you still want them to succeed. people are saying, i do not think he should have won because he had a stroke. i just think they are terrible. they call themselves christians, may god have mercy on them. (202) 748-8000, democrats. (202) 748-8001, republican. (202) 748-8002, independents. that is how you can reach us. one of the republican winners was the republican of georgia.

here is a part of his victory speech. [video clip] >> we do not get distracted on this campaign. just like we had stayed focused on putting you first throughout my first term. we woke up every single day talking about how to build a safer stronger georgia for you and your family, and help your family fight through joe biden's 40 year high inflation. [applause] >> we did that by focusing on common sense solutions, to put more of your hard earned tax dollars back in your pocket. bypassing the largest income state tax cut in history. we are turning over $1 billion back to you, the taxpayers. and suspending the gas tax in

[applause] >> we are also going to give you relief on your property taxes as well. our message to voters was about making sure they have the opportunity to achieve the american dream right here in the peach state. each date of this race, we talk about how -- and i think we live in the best dates in the country to live, work, raise our family. independent line. good morning. caller: i am a 53-year-old male from ohio. i am independent. what i am seeing right now is that, the republicans if they take over the senate or the house, if there is no change in the gun-control or immigration, what happens then? are we going to throw all of that to democrats? neither party has accomplished what they say they are going to accomplish, what they are for. in roe v. wade, are we going to have the religious right take over them because they do not want to give women reproductive rights? that is my opinion on voting. host: let's hear from matthew in

9:58 am
host: 54 house races yet to be calling in. we are waiting on 218 to take the house. we are expected to be the closest race. politico with various categories with leading democrats or leading republicans are the key tossup races. when it comes to toss up, democrats doing very well winning eight of nine that they called so far this cycle. i want to walk through a few of those toss ups that are in that category, including in nevada's first district. the incumbent trying to hold onto her seat. there is a 80% reporting in nevada's first district right

10:04 am
how can he just go into the senate? he has got a big problem. he said he was going to let go of prisoners. it is going to be bad for their state. i am bumbled how he got into that senate. how did he get into it? why did the people pick him? host: mary lou in new jersey, independent line. hello. caller: i want to say something that i don't think you people here too often. i think you are doing an excellent job with us. i was up at 2:30 in the morning watching last night. peter was fantastic. you are doing equally as well this morning. i want to make a couple points.
10:05 am
i want to start with, there was a man who asked his friend a question. you think the two most important things are ignorance and apathy? and the man's response was, i don't know and i don't care. i am bringing that up because last night i was watching these election returns and i was seeing all these familiar names come up who had gotten back in. maxing warner, -- and i am sitting there and i am thinking, who is voting these people back in? aren't they experiencing problems when the grocery shop? filling their tanks with gas? a norma's utility bills, crime rampant across the country, drugs pouring in killing our people, the mutilation of our children in the schools.
10:06 am
and i am thinking, who are these people that are putting these individuals back in. why do they think this is happening? it is obvious because of the regime that is in power now. i am tired of hearing people bash donald trump using him as a scapegoat. i feel he is the best president in my lifetime. we have got a lot of sinister things going on in government now. people don't want to believe that we have socialist, marxist, communist influences in this country. we do. i am very upset about this election. i am not getting -- i am not giving the republicans a free pass. you could give them a winning hand in poker and they still lose. host: that is mary lou in new jersey giving her thoughts. let's hear from mike in cypress, texas, mccright line. caller: i have been a democrat
10:07 am
since 1980. i am sick and tired of the republicans always whining and crying and acting a fool. i became a democrat for a main reason. i am a combat vet. i was forced to go to a little island called guam. and take care of doctors and nurses. why am i doing that? what does that have to do with fighting wars? so pathetic. if you are going to fight a war, fight a war. host: how this deals with yesterday's election? caller: i am disappointed because i see all the racist states have their people win. i wish it would have came out a lot better. i wish beto would have one texas. -- would have won texas. host: why do you think he didn't
10:08 am
win? caller: they have these cliques in texas and in georgia and in florida. the little boy system is how -- the good old boy system is how they control. system is how they control. governor has a lot to do with cliques. avid definitely did not deserve it. -- abbot did not deserve it. he was trying to campaign during the killing of those 21 people. 19 students and two teachers. instead of going to them showing some empathy, he didn't care less. host: ok, that is mike in texas. let's hear from chelsea in
10:09 am
illinois, republican line. caller: i am so frustrated with the illinois situation. i live at the tip of illinois, almost at the wisconsin border. it seems it doesn't make a difference no matter what i vote. they call illinois with only half the votes. put -- back in office here all the usual democrats are back in office. they called it so early. it is so frustrating no matter what we do, it doesn't make a difference. they just keep hitting in office. host: chelsea in illinois calling on republican line. we hear next from carol in west virginia, independent line. caller: good morning. i am tired of both parties. they will promise you the mona until they get in -- they will
10:10 am
promise you the moon until they get into office and then pit the people against each other. i see no democrat really do anything to better other than try to tell anybody that wants to vote against their policies that they are racist, bigoted, whatever. and i see the republicans doing nothing sides telling us that we are all just doomed if we vote democrat. i am tired of the vote buying that goes on. if you are young, you don't have to study the policy, they will give you free college, free health care, free this, free that. we got a vote. and if you are older, you get to hear about how they are going to do social security and they will scare you that way. the social security was done by
10:11 am
richard nixon years ago in the 70's. there was a law that was put into effect that the cost of living adjustment would be there. the reason they are getting a high increase this year is because of the inflation. as far as the border goes, i don't really care who takes care of the border. but we cannot have illegal immigration. we have to have legal immigrants coming in. host: carol in route west virginia giving her thoughts. someone giving her thoughts yesterday this morning was katie hobbs, democratic candidate for governor in arizona. that race yet to be decided. here is a portion of her comments. [video clip] >> we are seeing the first
10:12 am
results coming in and we are feeling good about what we are seeing. [applause] that is because of all the hard work everyone in this room put in. you all make calls, you knocked on doors, you talked to your friends, your family, your neighbors about what is at stake in this election. most importantly, you all got out and voted. [applause] now that the campaign is over and polls have closed, county election officials are hard at work tabulating those votes. they are going to be tabulating them for the next few days. we are all eager to find out who one all of these incredibly important races. we needed to be patient and wait for every vote to be counted. every single vote matters. every single vote counts equally. whether you voted by mail, dropped off your ballot in secure. box yesterday, or voted in person today.
10:13 am
we know my opponent and her allies have been sowing doubt and confusion throughout this campaign and it is unacceptable that they were spreading misinformation today while people were exercising their freedom to vote. i have every confidence that the counties administering this election conducted free and fair election and their results will be accurate. but they will take time. repair for a long evening and a few more days of counting. for now, let's go enjoy the evening. thank you. host: we will look at races during the course of the morning. we will look at issues being discussed during the course of the campaign to all of this is a part of our coverage of campaign 2022, election 2022. with that we go back to john mcardle. john: we have been covering ballot iue very important ones on ballot state -- on the
10:14 am
state ballot. abortion being a very important one. a wrap up of me of those ballot measures, npr -- the chairman of npr covering that in the last hour it called kentucky's aborti ballot measurvoters have rejected an amendment th would have said the senate constitution contains no right to abortion. that as to victory for abortion right advocates and ballot measures campaigns in california, vermont and michigan. more on that kentucky measures specifically, she writes, "abortion is illegal in kentucky under state or should -- state abortion bands that took effect after the summers u.s. supreme court decision. abortion rights groups are challenging those laws and defeating commitment to the cause the kentucky supreme court to view those challenges more favorably." there is one abortion ballot measure that still hasn't been called y out in montana. one their so-called
10:15 am
personhood bill -- personhood bills. it is currently losing when it comes to the 80%. 52.6% voting non that personhood measure in montana. 47.4% voting yes. other ballot measures have t do with issues recreatiol marijuana and legalizing marijuana, second role -- several on that front in maryland. toegalize marijuana for the age over 21 passed overwhelmingly. safety 5.5%. 34.5% opposed. missouri constitutional amendment, recreational marijuana, legalizing that for people over 21, yes, 53.1%. no at 46.9%.
10:16 am
the associated press has called that ballot measure. in arkansas, the measure there, recreational marijuana for those over 21, 56.2% saying no to that , voting against to that to that -- to just 43.8% voting no. north dakota, the measure they are to legalize recreational marijuana, before .9% voting no. 45.1% voting y. that has been called. south dakota another one of those states that has recreational marijuana on the ballot. 52.9% voting no. 47.1% voting yes. colorado's proposition 121, 122 to decriminalize the use and possession of some hallucinogenic mushrooms, 51% in colorado voting yes to that. 49% voting no. that is some of the latest on
10:17 am
some of the big ballot measures that have -- that happened yesterday. host: in weatherford texas, republican line, you are next. caller: thank you for taking my call. i am so concerned about what everybody is going to divisiveness. everybody is being so divided against each other in this country. it starts with the people who are announcing all of these races. last night i watched it. everything they said, came out of their mouths was divisive.
10:18 am
they can help stop some of that. host: because of what you saw last night, what did you think of governor abbott's victory last night? caller: i was very pleased. he is a fine man. he has done a fine job. there is nothing he has done that is upsetting with me. i agree with most everything he has done. host: let's hear from michelle in staten island, new york, independent line. caller: i would like to quote my cousin linda that the world has gone crazy in breadbasket. that is true. i am a democrat when i vote, i vote democrat. but if liz cheney was running, i would definitely vote for her. i think she is a true patriot. i would like to see her run. host: what did you think about
10:19 am
the revolt -- what did you think about the results there in new york? caller: kathy hochul has got to get it together here. crime, you cannot deny it. that is like saying the insurrection was a piece -- the insurrection was a peaceful demonstration. just like we know in new york, the streets are bad. host: michelle in new york in staten island giving her thoughts from yesterday. tosha in spring hill, florida, democrat line. hello. caller: i am very concerned about the senate and the house. the race, the republicans how you can they for crime, your
10:20 am
funding against prime -- you are funding against crime, you commit crime. people are not looking at they are trying to take social security and everything away. they are not looking at that. it is hurting people. whether you are a democrat or a republican independent. at the end of the day, we all need to come together. fighting people against each other is not right. have a good day. host: let's hear from wanda in michigan, republican line. caller: this is a very sad day for michigan. they passed all three proposals. i guess they are going to allow representatives to stay for another 12 years.
10:21 am
i don't see any more honest elections in michigan ever again with the recent proposal that just past. the michigan governor, now that they have the house and everything, she has threatened to shut down i-5. i don't see how the electric heat can be switched over it -- switched over instantly if she shuts down i-5. it gets very cold in michigan. host: what is i-5? caller: that is the natural gas line that runs under the great lake. host: why would she want to shut it down? caller: she threatened to shut that down because she says it is very old and dilapidated. there has been no issues with it. it heats the homes here in michigan. if she shuts that down, we will
10:22 am
freeze to death in michigan. host: that is wanda giving us her calls -- giving us her thoughts from the results yesterday. let's hear from justin in ohio on the democrat line. caller: to address the independent voters and people who are not happy with the party, the lady from west virginia who i heard earlier, you are going to have to look into red joys voting and talk to your senators. talk to the people in power about how to make this happen. the only party that wants to see red choice voting is the democrats. before we are ever going to see any kind of satisfaction, we are going to have to expand the ballots to allow other people in that are not willing to tow the line for their party. in order to do that you have to introduce big choice voting. host: you talked about the issue
10:23 am
of ranked choice voting. what do you think was behind tim ryan not winning yesterday? caller: it was expected in ohio. it is typical of what we would expect in ohio. tim ryan, he could have run a better campaign, a stronger campaign. there is a lot of people that felt, probably a lot of people who wanted to vote democrat, he was to republican. that may be factored into that as well. his personality, he is going to look out. the promise he made about trump and he flip-flopped on that. republicans are in it to win it, republicans are in it to fall in love. host: that is the view of justin
10:24 am
in columbus, ohio. even his thoughts. you can continue to do the same. you heard from katie hobbs as far as her thoughts on racing for the governor. kari lake also giving a speech last night. where she was as far as the results coming in and where she stands in the race. this race not being called yet but let's hear from her. [video clip] >> we had a big day today and don't let those cheaters and crooks ink anything different. don't let them put doubt in you. we have a movement and we know it. did you feel it? did you feel that movement? [applause] i did a lot of praying to god. i have been praying to god every day all day. i said to him, you make this victory come whatever way you want. if it comes decisive on election
10:25 am
day, then bring it to us that way. if we have to fight through the bs, garbage, we will fight through the bs and the garbage. [applause] but how do you get fair and free elections? you have to fight and win to make them fair and free. we needed another stark reminder we have him competent -- we have incompetent people running the show in arizona. who is ready for a change? we had great patriots around the state show up today. they showed up at the polls early this morning only to be told the election equipment didn't work. [booing] >> two minutes into voting we had people told you are going to have to put your ballot here into another box.
10:26 am
the fake media back there tried to tell us we were wrong for asking questions about our election. we are going to win this. [applause] we are going to win this. how many of you remember a couple months ago, august 2, the primary election wasn't that long ago? we came out and they said, they are 10 points up. the fake news was asking us to concede. we kept climbing, climbing, climbing. we turned 15 points around and we won by five points. it is early. it is very early. if we have to take this fight through, we will. if it takes hours or days, we will. every single drop of election ballots that have come and the last three drops have shown us 85%, 87%.
10:27 am
81%. i want the propagandist back there to know, don't embarrass yourselves. don't embarrass yourselves. don't do it again. you have done it too many times. the same movement we had last night at that rally, the same movement we had at that rally in scottsdale, the same movement we had at the rallies we had before with record people is the same move -- the same movement we have now. nothing has changed. we are going to monitor the ballots. we have got to work in the system we have now. as they continue to come in and our numbers go up like they did last time, when we win, first
10:28 am
line of action is to restore honesty to arizona elections. host: all of those speeches at our website at c-span.org and our app at c-span now. let's go to linda in florida and springhill. independent line. good morning. caller: anybody who doesn't agree that desantis who one should go -- who won should go back to new york or california. thank god desantis one -- won. all you people deserve what you get. pennsylvania i couldn't believe with all the crime and all the crepe that is going on in pennsylvania, you got what you deserved. wait and see. host: this is mike up next.
10:29 am
west virginia, democrat line. hello. caller: what this election proved to me, i live in west virginia. west virginia used to be a strongly blue democrat state. recently where i live in the northern panhandle of west virginia, it has become red. i vote in every election. here is what this election proved, democracy works. people voted and people took the results of the election and so far i haven't heard anybody, that candidate from arizona saying the election is rigged. most people are not saying how the election was rigged. the elections were not rigged in the united states. that is what the president was
10:30 am
saying to everybody in his speech over the weekend. election works, democracy works. people should keep that in mind. host: from sam in ohio, republican line, you are up. caller: hello. there appears to be a sad thing going on. it appears we are going to lose both houses. the house and the senate. we are going to be subject to the chinese consortium, the democratic party. we are headed down a very bad road. i am going to start getting supplies and going to start loading my guns. because we are in a very sad state. i have great fear for our
10:31 am
children and our grandchildren. host: why do you think the house is going to, republicans are going to lose the house? caller: watching the numbers, watching the way they are moving. my party as republicans have even up on the united states. host: you had a republican governor win reelection. you had a republican senator win over an incumbent democrat. factor those into how you feel about your state. caller: that is irrelevant. there wins are not going to put a hole in the problems that we have in the future. host: ok. let's hear from lisa. lisa is in maryland, democratic
10:32 am
line. caller: from marilyn, we reelect the third black man to be governor in the nation. we legalized marijuana and we are all taking a deep breath because it has been like being in an abusive relationship living the lies coming from the right. republicans, we will continue to work and fight to secure social security, expand medicare and health care for all of you. you think we are divisive but we are not. the things we care about, increasing minimum wage, we are doing this for every american. i wish they could see this. we are not trying to exclude anyone.
10:33 am
john fetterman, he had a stroke, he does -- that does not make him a throwaway person. he is recovering and he is beloved in pennsylvania. it is a good day for democracy. host: arizona republican line, hi. caller: i am looking at you on tv. it is amazing i got my call picked up so quick. i am a california resident. my son lives in arizona. with desantis in florida, what you have done, a vietnam vet, i am 75 years old, the children, nobody is talking about the children or the big drug problems. hundreds of thousands of pounds
10:34 am
that come across the border this morning. i could talk your ear off. the children, education, crime, covid, abortion, desantis was right on. host: you are visiting your son in arizona, how does he feel about the governor's race there? caller: i have been born a liberal democrat from southern caro -- southern california. i am really more an independent but i register as one of them so i get the mail. carrie wright, she is a superstar. she says it all. she calls it like it is from her heart. she is beautiful. i love beautiful, smart,
10:35 am
intelligent women. common sense. host: that is michael in arizona. let's hear from democrats pennsylvania line. caller: i have a couple concerns concerning my fellow pennsylvanians. how many times mr. trump took his cases to the court and did not win one. i want to bring up on c-span two, i watched did morris give a speech and he predicted a big red tsunami from yesterday.
10:36 am
did morris was way off target on his predictions. one of the big losers of yesterday that wasn't on the ballot was senator rick scott of florida and his predictions. i appreciate you letting me make my call. host: we are going to continue with your calls and your input from the election results as they are coming in. around 11:00 we are going to be taking you to a news conference held by the democratic congressional campaign committee. the committee responsible for getting democrats into the house representative sean patrick maloney is expected to make comments about the results yesterday. expect that at about 11:00 this morning as we continue with our election coverage. democrats, (202) 748-8000. republicans, (202) 748-8001. independents, (202) 748-8002.
10:37 am
you can text us at (202) 748-8003. here is part of representative ryan's comments. [video clip] >> this fight was for all of you to try to make this state and this country a better place. i will never regret one second of that. it was for you guys. [applause] i have gratitude for my entire team. by all accounts, any measure by the most sophisticated experts in the country. this was the best run that campaign and the entire united states. [applause] thank you, all of you. my whole team along with andrea are all unemployed so if anybody is hiring, we want to make sure to give them an opportunity.
10:38 am
[laughter] i am very grateful. what i said during this campaign i meant. i meant every word of it. this is why i love my team so much. they let me be me. what i said, i meant. this country, we have too much hate, we have too much anger. there is way too much fear. there is way too much division. we need more love. we need more compassion. we need more concern for each other. those are important things. we need forgiveness, we need grace, we need reconciliation. we have to leave the age of stupidity behind us. i have a privilege right now, a privilege as someone who is the democratic nominee. i have the privilege to concede
10:39 am
this race to j.d. vance. the way this country operates is that when an election, you concede. and you respect -- [applause] you respect the will of the people. we cannot have a system where if you win, it is a legitimate election and if you lose, someone stole it. that is not how we can move forward in the united states. this is an essential country. i have said it all throughout the campaign, this is a country built on freedom. this is the essential nation, versus china and russia. countries that don't have freedom of speech, freedom of the press. they have eckman -- they have
10:40 am
ethnic cleansing. they put their political opponents in prison. i am concerned this country, as we move forward, it may get worse before we get better. we need good people who are going to honor the institutions of this country that have brought us to this point and we have an idea and an understanding that the one thing we know for sure, the one thing we know for sure is that our kids and our grandkids are going to live together. they are going to live together. we know that. the question is, what kind of country are they going to live in? are they going to live in a country where the they are forced to hate or in country we have disagreements and respect each other? even though we come to different conclusions, that is what is at
10:41 am
stake here. democrats, republicans, independence, and have the fight the extrist movement in this country. that is what the call is for all of us. highest title in this country is not present, not vice president, not senator, not congressman, not dr. or lawyer or quarterback, the highest title in this land is citizen. we have an obligation to be good citizens. host: our team of producers have worked throughout the campaign season to bring you debates and election material, including all the speeches you have seen last night on our network. we make that available to you via our campaign website, campaign 2022 website where you can see all those speeches, victory and contest -- and concession speeches. you can see that at c-span.org.
10:42 am
from texas, this is robert, mccright line. -- robert, democrat line. caller: i am a democrat. i am not, i want to go all the way back to the french revolution where we got our start in the industrial revolution and the people voted to not let the autocrats run the country. in our country, the autocrats, i understand what the poor people are saying. the poor people are saying mixed congress is not going to allow the president of the united states to make the decisions he needs to make. this great news making between republicans and democrats barely letting people get the votes down in this country.
10:43 am
democrats artificially jacked up this election. they artificially jacked up the gas prices and all of these things will go away as soon this election phase. a lot of poor people are suffering, basing this on i just need a check. i love american business but i think it needs to be made more fair. that is what i'm going to say from texas because texas is wrapped with corruption. host: let's hear from robert in louisiana, republican line. caller: this is the united states of america. united we stand, divided we fall. from the time of confederacy to conservancy, now we have people
10:44 am
fighting against each other right now. we need to come together as a country because we have forces of people who are in charge of the energy, the food and everything else that have raised prices for one reason. we need to get together. our kids are coming up in a nation that is totally divided. we get to a point where we won't go anywhere. united we stand, divided we fall. host: robert in kenner, louisiana. here is john mcardle. >> a lot of updates for you. you mentioned sean patrick maloney set to hold a press briefing at dccc headquarters at

10:46 am
the latest results have rafael rnock up by 41,3. that is a 16 gain from the last reporting two hours ago. net 16 votes from the last time they updated theiresults. we are keeping a very close eye on that race. we want to take you to the overview of the house right now. two races yet to be called. we started this morning at 64 ras be called. democrats picked up two races. the associated press calling two of those uncalled races within e past hour. danyel killions at 51 -- at 53.1% against his challenger paul john.
10:47 am
that is the 12th district race. summer lee, the democrat in that open seat defeating mike doyle the republican in that seat, 55.7% to 44 -244 point 3%. -- to 44.3%. about 20 races considered tossup's going into lastig. a coin flip either way. here is a couple of them out of the empire state in new york fourth district. anthony dia spot zero, 51 point 9%. staying in new york to new york's 19th district, markets: aro, republican 51.1% to josh riley, 48.9%.

10:49 am
i think it is amazing, i am not a physician, his speech last night, his demeanor and his speech was a whole lot better. it looks like an amazing recovery. i had breakfast with my family physician this morning and asked him about it. i asked him about how much better he did last night and he looked at me across the table and let out a chuckle. mr.fetterman pulled off one of the best campaigns i have ever saw. i have to give him kudos. host: let's go to terry in illinois. democrat line. caller: i think democracy one yesterday. americans got fed up with this foolery the republican party putting up.
10:50 am
all of us coming together to do that as democrats and republicans, the crisis we got, it affects all of us. that is where we need to start. have a great day. host: republican line, going to frank in florida. caller: from the not so sunny, sunshine state. we are betting down the hatches this morning for this tropical storm coming our way. anyway, i was a rubio, desantis volunteer here in seminole county. the model for success was that we stayed on message. we were not all over the board.
10:51 am
the topics here in our state were inflation, as prices and more important how the shortages and rental increase, these were the most important things to the florida, i am not going to say generically speaking to florida voters, but seminole county is ruby red. orange county to our south is purple. more democratic leaning. these out-of-towners who decided to move to our lovely state tax free state, no state tax in florida and enjoy what we have
10:52 am
for weather events, we are going to stay read it for a long time to come. maybe the republican party, instead of spewing out they need to get down to the grassroots level again. host: let's hear from kathy in pennsylvania, democrat line, hello. caller: it is a great day in pennsylvania today. we are so happy we have a governor that will keep -- host: kathy, go ahead. caller: sorry about that. we are so happy we have a democratic party, that we won, it is fantastic, we are so happy. that is all we have to say for today.
10:53 am
thank you. host: let's hear from john fetterman this morning about his visit -- about his victory. [video clip] >> i am so grateful. it is 1:30 in the morning and you are still here. we launched this campaign almost two years ago. we have our slogan. it is on every one of those signs right now. every county, every vote. every county, every vote. we jammed them up. we held the line. i never expected we were going to turn these red counties blue
10:54 am
but we did what we needed to do and we had that conversation across every one of those counties. tonight that is why i will be the next u.s. senator from pennsylvania. [applause] thank you so much. i want to thank all supporters across pennsylvania, everyone who chipped in 10 books -- 10 bucks. host: this is randy, indiana
10:55 am
republican line. caller: ever since the revolutionary war, the democrats have wanted to go back to democratic rule -- wanted to go english ruling. kings and queens and all that. as history went on, they were against the blacks, that is why we have the civil war. in the 20's, they wanted to get the blacks imprisoned so they criminalized marijuana. as it goes on, they keep trying to put the blacks down. these people who believe in the democrats, they are misguided. joe biden, he said two days before the election, no more drilling. they say they are lowering the taxes. they get an office and feed their own pockets. host: how do you attribute the
10:56 am
democrat results yesterday? caller: america is finally waking up. the cheating that went on in the 2020 election, they couldn't do it this time. this is a true american vote. we are going to win the house and we are going to win the senate. we might have a tie in the house, which is ok. america is waking up. you look at florida, what happened in florida, they annihilated the democrats. in texas, they annihilated the democrats. we have got criminals in the democratic side. maxine waters was caught for insider trading. joe biden son was in cahoots with these russian and chinese and oligarchs. host: ok, let's hear from our independent line. doug, springfield, missouri.
10:57 am
independent line. caller: i would like to remind that fellow that just called that during the civil war the democrats were the southern democrats which were the confederates, which are now the republican party, but anyway, that is not why i called. my issue was with all of the incumbent republicans that ran on biden's high gas prices. you should probably remind them that in may house resolution 7866, called the consumer fuel price gouging protection act passed the house without one single republican vote, then it was killed in committee by republicans in the senate. then they want to say this is
10:58 am
biden's high gas prices. who is really working out for the american people to lower gas prices? i amotaking that up. anybody can go looth up. it was hr 7866. the consumer price, gas price gouging protection act. let's go back to john mcardle. >> want to keep you updated on results that continue to come in. five senate races yet to be called. key ones out at the silver state of nevada. adam laxalt, republican challenger 49 point 9%. incumbent senator catherine cortez masto, 47.2%. the democratic incumbent trailing there. the best person to hear from when it comes to nevada politics, john ralston, longtime nevada political republic -- political reporter.
10:59 am
he is calling it the wii matter state. he writes, our state is at 23,000 votes and our governor race is at 43 thousand votes. republicans leading both those races right now. the key question, how much mail is out there and what are the margins for democrats? we may not know today." he goes on to tweet, "at least 5000 mail ballots left. that should help democrat votes out there. votes in rural areas will help republicans. " waiting is the hardest part, he writes. that is the latest out of nevada. looking around to some of the other election tracking this morning, axios with their
11:00 am
tracking of the 2020 election deniers who are running in 2022. republican candidates who have rejected the -- who have rejected the results of the 2020 presidential election. at the bottom, the candidates they classify as election deniers. 11 have lost. six of them have one -- have won. house republicans leadership elections where republicans will figureelise stefanik as house gp chair. this is what the former president said on monday. we will see what happens. there is a lot going on. we will keep you on top of all of them on c-span. host: just a few moments until
11:01 am
that suppose it press conference is set to start. ohio next, don, democrats line. caller: my faith in the american system has been restored this morning. i am disappointed in the results in ohio, but i invite everyone to do what c-span did and juxtapose the speeches, the confession -- confession speech by tim ryan and kari lake. it speaks highly of the difference between democrats and republicans. kari lake calling everyone croaks and cheaters. tim ryan gracefully bowing to defeat. i am proud this morning to be a democrat. thank you for taking michael. host: republican line, kentucky. caller: how are you? host: go ahead please.
11:02 am
guest: caller: caller: i'm glad the republicans won the majority. the democrats -- joe biden has got -- people can't live. can't buy nothing. i was a democrat. i am 77 years old. i was a democrat until about three years when trump came in. the democrats took the world over and ruined our world. i am glad we are getting somebody. maybe we can get back online and take care of things needs taken care of. host: robin from phoenix, arizona. caller: thank you, c-span. i want to say i'm really proud of generations x, y and z.
11:03 am
i had a true belief the americans believe in democracy and believed in their ability to vote. what i want to bring forward here, and i have been thinking this for the last year or two, 2000 when the internet was born and i worked for compaq and i was a graphics in marketing, i saw the merge of the mac and the pc world. the mid-1980's to 2000. just like in 1900 when henry ford discovered the automobile, the same thing happened in 2000. the internet was born. now we are able to disseminate information differently. yes, social media has problems. i knew that from the very get-go, as did most computer techies. if you look at technology, and 100 years without a complete
11:04 am
shift in technology. we have had the growth of younger generations. i truly believe this is going to be a turning point in history because of the revolution of 2000. everything we predicted, they are good for data. i a data person. i believe in data. you must have math. host: troy from barrington, new jersey on the republican line. caller: hello? host: go ahead. caller: my whole confusion with the democratic party about yesterday's election is what they give the money to stacey abrams and beto o'roarke and given tim ryan a chance actually
11:05 am
win instead of letting him go out on his own. they could have had bigger gains but they continue to back losers that are not going to win and just gain money and line their pockets. host: as a republican why would you care? caller: i voted republican up until 2016, until trump came around. you have to put the party is cited put the country first. now we just vote for the best candidate and see who it is. j.d. vance worries me. these are not republican candidates. these are just candidates who are riding the whim of election denial and the chaos in the country and don't care about fixing anything. they just run against things. host: kate in michigan on the independent line. caller: good morning. i am calling for a couple of comments. one is the obscene amount of money the election cost.
11:06 am
i wish the money could have been spent on other things. the other thing is that in support of our governor whitmer a caller stated if they don't shut down line 5 we will freeze to death in michigan. that is not true. i am very much in favor of setting down line 5 to protect one of the largest bodies of freshwater in the world. why did we want to believe that? it did happen in kalamazoo where there was an oil leak. it was the same company, en bridge. i support gretchen whitmer. thank you. host: democrats line, paul in illinois. hello? caller: how are you? host: go ahead. caller: you know, i'm a
11:07 am
full-blooded democrat. you know -- host: you have to stop listening to the television and make your statement on the phone please. caller: you know that we -- republicans have gone around and not done nothing. host: we will put you on hold. i want you to mute your television. that way you can keep going without interruption. go ahead and do that while you are waiting. george in miami, republican line. caller: hello and thank you for taking my call. i just wanted to say it's a big victory for the state of florida
11:08 am
but the overall picture i'm a little surprised considering the economic situation this country is in. the hardship we are going through that the big red wave did not take effect like some people thought. i honestly believe the reason for it -- one of them was the abortion issue. i think more so it is donald trump. i think that trump needs to back off, step aside, let the republican party be the republican party, not the trump party. it is being parnas. the democrats have used it wisely to tarnish the republican party and thinking anyone who is a republican is a trumpster. i did like his policies. i don't care for the individual myself.
11:09 am
he's really hurting the party. i believe he will not get the nomination. in doing that he will create his own party and probably destroy the republican party because it is all about him. i'm sorry to say that but that is how i believe. host: the former president donald trump did address a crowd at mar-a-lago last night during the results as they were coming in. here is a portion of those comments. [video] >> the numbers have been amazing so far. as of this moment on endorsements, with the nominations we had a total of 330 endorsements on nominations. of the 330, we won 200, 324.
11:10 am
so, if you think 224 -- some of those were longshots. they were down a fifth-place. we had a lot of people in fifth-place that want to first. 224 out of 330. tonight, as of this moment, we are 80 wins and three losses. is that good? wouldn't that be funny if we were better on the general election than the nominations themselves? north carolina, ted budd is leading, 51%-40 britain present -- 47%. derek schmidt is up. please against the bush, anheuser-busch. that is a different bush. you tell me which is the real bush.
11:11 am
in ohio, j.d. vance is now leading, 52% to 47%. we had an incredible rally last night in ohio. in florida, marco rubio, and unbelievable rally for marco. with the heaviest rain i have ever been involved with. it was beautiful. this is the tropics, florida. it was the most beautiful night and it turned deadly dark and it was like you had massive pails of water that fell on me. we gutted it out. we had 45,000 people out there, no teleprompter. i wonder what biden would do right now? we gutted it out. marco had a fantastic evening.
11:12 am
katie britt, we endorsed katie and she did fantastically. 68%, 30%. a fantastic woman for a husband who was great. maybe the largest human being of ever seen. he was in offensive lineman in the nfl for a long time and a great football player. play for alabama. katie, congratulations. herschel is leading right now. we have a lot of big races going on. enjoy that. enjoy the food and enjoy everything. it is a great honor to have the media with us. we hope you enjoy yourself and this wonderful group of people. these are the people you read about. they are not the nicest people but they are brilliant financially. we will not see any great
11:13 am
football stars but with you see brilliant people. they are great people. very, very successful people and they want what is good for the country and that is why they are here. thank you for being here. to the media, think you very much. have a good time -- thank you very much. have a good time. host: some of those numbers have changed since those comments. jim ed northeast pennsylvania, democrats line. caller: hi. i'm a committeeman here. it befuddles me to hear these republicans talk, because i have three quick points. inflation and high gas prices are all around the world. we have some of the best, lowest prices. the oil price started under trump. he made a deal with opec and domestic producers shot up to
11:14 am
about $120. it is finally down to about $90. joe biden and the democrats do not own the oil companies. secondly, florida actually lost. the republicans have been openly talking about stopping social security and medicare. they have been talking about it for a long time. recently with ron johnson and people like that, who goes to florida? all these retired people depending on social security. finally, and this is so important. sure, prices are high for gas and everything but prices -- we have always had high inflation in recessions in the history of the country. the one thing that will not come back is democracy. once we lose democracy, we will never get it back.
11:15 am
i don't think people are thinking in the long term. host: that is jim. tim in arkansas on the independent line. caller: i represent independent voters in arkansas. we had a big defeat yesterday. i want to congratulate all the people that turned out, all as independent growers. a shout out to rick in california. republicans, roll the big one. democrats, miller time. love you. host: jeff. caller: hello. how are you doing? host: thank you. go ahead. caller: i did vote. i'm trying to find out if eric schmitt of missouri -- derek schmidt of missouri won or lost last night? host: missouri?
11:16 am
caller: i live in hannibal, missouri. i did not see all the returns. i voted yesterday. host: jeff in missouri, stay put. we will find that for you real quick. let's go to john mcardle. host: we want to keep you updated on not just electoral news but also international news. just a few minutes ago, russia has announced the retreat from a key strategic sitting ukraine, calling it a mammoth setback in the face of a grinding ukrainian counteroffensive. that is the latest from the war and that is getting reaction from members of congress on capitol hill, including ted lieu of the ford affairs committee it shows that are only two ways the war ends, he tweeted.
11:17 am
e the ukraine feats russian forces in ukraine or russia conquers ukraine. that is why we must do more and give ukrainians everything they need to win. that's from the past couple of minutes. we will keep an eye on that developing situation. back to some of what we have been talking about, we mentioned that republican house leadership elections are scheduled to take place in six days. at this point we don't know how many seats republicans will have in the house just yet, the jockeying is going on behind the scenes. this is from punch bowl news. steve scalise, minority whip, will not challenge kevin mccarthy for speaker of the house. that is first steve scalise's ai des. he is running for majority leader,. -- majority leader, full stop.
11:18 am
that is if they do take control of the house. there is a narrow path for democrats to hold the house. more news on the republican leadership front. jim banks of indiana, member of the armed services committee, vetera affairs committee, his team is about to send a dear colleague letter saying he's running for the majority whip and the next congress. so begins the post election leadership jockeying. more reporting from maggie haberman of the new york times. she d the book out recently about donald trump. spent her time during the trump administration covering the white house and donald trump. trump is furious, partularly about men it awes -- mehmet oz
11:19 am

11:21 am
last night he was projected to win, defeating the democratic challenger. rudy in chula vista, california. caller: the reason i'm calling is i want the people to be open -- to open their eyes. when the coronavirus started in november of 2019, who was the president? it was trump. we went through 2020. he was the president. he should have pushed the virus for everybody to get -- everybody was dying. things were shutting down. host: how does this relate to the election? caller: i want the people, the democrats that are winning their seats and everything is because a lot of people are hypnotized by trump. i believe that people know that
11:22 am
biden is struggling to do this the better way. when biden took over the vaccine started popping out and people were getting cured. a lot of people did not believe coronavirus and many were dying. some states interviewed people that were republican. they were like i should have taken the vaccine. host: jessica in tennessee. i'm punching the right line. jessica in ashland city. caller: i cannot comprehend how anyone can support the democratic party. that they not seen what has happened to our country? biden cannot even form a full senate and people want to talk about trump when all biden has done has destroyed everything trump did for the country. it is so far-fetched. host: how do you attribute the
11:23 am
results for democrats so far? caller: i don't want to get into everything. it has a lot to do with pelosi and what happened with her husband. host: tory in indiana, south bend. caller: how are you doing? i'm wondering by these republicans, please followers -- these followers, they are trying to blame biden about the crime. all the governors in the states, how did biden have anything to do with your states? host: how does this relate to the election? caller: i'm glad the democrats won i'm glad the democrats. win. if the republicans take over the house and senate, the world will come to an end. host: what do you mean by that?
11:24 am
caller: it's going back almost slavery. host: why are you convinced of that? caller: they are trying to stop women from having abortions. i don't understand why that is your business. pretty soon it will be women can vote. they will try to make it hard on blacks to vote. i'm black. it is crazy. they are all followers. trump is there downfall and i'm glad. host: let's go to joe in arizona, democrats line. caller: i have a couple of comments. i heard the little speech from trump a couple of minutes ago. he asked what would biden do regarding what trump did last night? biden would tell the truth for one thing. they would do kari lake a big favor and keep her off of tv and lying so much. she said she prays everyday. she should repent about all the lies she is spewing. she will get beat soundly by
11:25 am
katie hobbs. host: greg from texas is next. caller: good morning. i want to say i called yesterday but they hung up on me. that's ok. i'm glad to call back. i want to congratulate you. i thank you so much. it is hard out here when you are a person of color trying to talk to people about what is really going on and what we need to do in this society. you need to vote. c-span, you are lighting -- lig htening the stress on people. we see this reality check. they talk about how bad the economy -- why are all these people running for office with millions of millions of dollars. and they have china coming to texas buying up land and talking about america going to hell in a hand basket. host: how does that relate to
11:26 am
yesterday? caller: i'm so happy. we all got out and voted. i don't understand how our governor got one -- it's ok. we have to deal with it. everybody is doing good. we have a handful of people who want to go back to the old ways because they ain't in control. you can't call for civil war and try to run this country. i see everyone working in the stores are crowded. they don't the country to run unless it is a white person running this country. this is america, the melting pot. host: stephen next from stony brook, new york. republican line. caller: hello? host: go ahead. caller: i still hear the other guy's voice.
11:27 am
i can't believe some of your callers. they are clueless. they are not blaming biden her inflation. the man closed 18 oil refineries. he slapped on more regulations. he held up permits to drill for oil. the democrats keep calling and blaming everybody in the world but biden for the inflation. that's all. host: we are talking about the election. what you think about the results so far? caller: they are disappointing. i'm delighted the republicans won more congressional seats than they have in my lifetime. it was disappointing. host: let's hear from senator raphael warnock addressing people this morning. here he is him earlier. [video] [cheering]
11:28 am
>> well. good evening, georgia. or maybe i should say good morning. here is where we are. we are not sure if this journey is over tonight or if there is still a little work yet to do. here is what we do know. we know when they are finished counting the votes, we are going to have received more votes than my opponent. no doubt. [cheers] and we know that once again the people of georgia showed up and said loud and clear that you want a senator who will do the work for georgia. you want someone who everyday is
11:29 am
going to wake up and work for all of georgia. that is the work i have committed myself to doing from day one. someone who understands we in the words of dr. kedar tir -- dr. king are tied in a single garment of destiny. what affects one directly affects all indirectly. we are all in this together. i understand at this late hour you may be a little tired. i may be a little tired for them, but whether it is later tonight or tomorrow or four weeks from now, we will hear from the people of georgia.
11:30 am
we will hear from the people who have given me the great honor of my life. representing you in the united states senate. we will move forward together. i remain as committed to this work as i have ever been. i look forward to continuing on that journey together over the next six years. [cheers] god bless each and every one of you. good morning. keep the faith. keep looking up. [cheers] host: those comments made earlier on in the process of counting those to determine who will gain control the house and senate.
11:31 am
that will continue on. we will continue want for half an hour more, taking your calls on the election results as you have seen them so far. (202) 748-8000 per democrats. (202) 748-8001 for republicans. (202) 748-8002 for independents. you can text us at (202) 748-8003. jim in indiana, republican line. caller: my name is jim. i'm a republican. i have always believed in voting for the man or the lady and not the party. what i can't understand is why other people don't stop and realize i will not vote for trump again but i damn sure will not run for -- vote for biden.our country is in bad shape . i believe most of the people are voting for people who they can get the most free stuff out of.
11:32 am
that is all i got to say. host: on the langford democrats, greg in riverside, california. caller: good morning. let me say first of all i'm so thankful for donald trump. as long as the right keeps pushing donald trump, they will keep losing. he lost the house, the senate, he lost the white house. this has been wonderful. as far as last night, once again people are concerned about their democracy. the republicans keep switching and going for the trump party and he keeps moving the democrats forward. what about losing the house? we will maintain the senate. we will maintain our democracy. that is what is more important than all of this. whether you are concerned about inflation or any of that, if you don't have democracy, you don't have anything. thank you for your time. host: ron in california as well,
11:33 am
valencia, independent line. caller: good day. thank goodness for the results of this election so far. i would rather see the democrats take more. i'm an independent. i voted for more republicans in my lifetime than i have for democrats. since the tea party and the republicans did to obama, i have changed and i will never support a republican in my life. republicans are delusional. republicans yesterday were delusional. they will be delusional again tomorrow with these results. they just don't get it. they are living on lies. lies promulgated by trump. there are good republicans out there, but the people buying these lies are buying lies. the borders are closed, not wide-open. yes, there is a problem but they are not wide-open. women's rights are being taken away, by which party?
11:34 am
voters rights are being taken away by which party? that's about all i wanted to say. i'm hoping for the best for christie smith here in santa clarita. god bless everybody and good luck. host: we will take your calls and update with you from information. we go back to john mcardle. host: what has come in is another one of the house races. associated press has made the call. it is now 61 races yet to be called. i wisconsinn 3rd, irfan orton w -- derek van orton wins. that was in the liens republican category heading into the night. now officially in the republican column 200 how seats at this point. 61 races yet to be called. 218 for the majority in the house.
11:35 am
we have taking you through various analysis in this day after the midterms. here is more. this is from the trump camp. former senior advisor to the former president. it is time to level set politically at the moment. here is his take on what happened yesterday. republicans will win back the house. the media is reporting that nancy pelosi is on her way to egypt for that cop 27 climate conference. she is going because she is finished and hello speaker mccarthy. clear likely headed to a runoff in georgia to see if we win the senate back. otherwise it is a 50-50 tie and democrats appear to have blown nevada. choque city. colossal failure -- choke city. colossal failure. joe biden's numbers are so bad that maryland was the only state
11:36 am
that were taken before the election. democrats did not lose say democratic seats they are thought they were going to lose. his analysis from twitter this morning. host: let's hear from geneva in maryland, republican line. caller: i have two things. we need to get our country back in order again. two, when trump was running gasoline was less than two dollars again. three, groceries. i can buy a dozen extra less than two dollars. now it is over three dollars a dozen. gas is over three dollars a gallon. this is the problem we are having with biden. he laid off the oilfield people admit it harder for people in america to heat their homes and now the oil -- four years ago it was less than three dollars 19
11:37 am
sagal in. -- three dollars n -- $3.09 a gallon. host: you just elected an african-american as governor of maryland. what did you think about that election? caller: we will see how he runs maryland. hogan did a good job for the last eight years because the idiot that was before him had a tax on water in montgomery county. let's see what this one does now. i don't care if he is republican or democrat. it's about the economy and the prices of everything going up. people are getting delusional. i guess they want to pay for all this oil and gas and groceries and make it hard for people that are working hard trying to make a little. host: jerry from south carolina on the democrats line. caller: yes.
11:38 am
this is jerry harris from south carolina. i'm happy with the outcome even though it is not completely over yet. it looks like -- host: you have to stop listening to your television and go ahead with their comment. caller: ok. host: jerry, go ahead. caller: unhappy with the outcome last night even though the democrats have not quite won everything yet. it seems like we have new people -- host: i will put you on hold. need for television. -- mute your television. let's hear from steve in pennsylvania, independent line. caller: good morning. i can talk about a lot of things. one thing i want to say. you had a guy caller who claimed he was a committee member open new york.
11:39 am
he made the comment that oil went up to $120 a barrel. under trump. i looked that up. i only have a cell phone so i had to use it to find the information. he is dead wrong. i can't remember all the numbers but i looked at the chart. it was something around $75 and went to. it was $49 when trump got elected. it went up and down throughout the year. i looked at 2020, 2021 and 2022. at 2022, 100 $23 a barrel. -- $123 a barrel. host: i'm a little -- let's talk about the election. caller: i don't think we should allow -- correct me if i'm wrong. one of the first debates america ever saw was 1960 with nixon and
11:40 am
kennedy. to let john fetterman -- to let people vote. before that debate, over 100,000 pennsylvanians voted before that debate. i will try to appeal to democrats and republicans. i consider myself an independent. i am in the category of i would never vote for a clinton or bush. that is the guy i am. the fact that he -- i will appeal to democrats, republicans and independents. use your common sense. should we let people vote before these people go on television and speak to us? it is insane to allow -- host: jerry from south carolina,
11:41 am
democrats line. caller: hi. good afternoon. i am pleased with the outcome of last night. i enjoy that some of the new people that are in office gives us a new face in the senate. different ideas and i feel with the new ones that are in their, i think they will do well. i think they can reach across the aisle for each other. for all the things we have been through for the last president, things are really messed up but i think people have a different opinion and different ideas. i think they will be willing to work. the president now is a great leader and has great ideas and they need someone that he can reach out to and the people and now, seems like they are everyday people some of that
11:42 am
will work for the country. host: maxwell frost, 25, will become the first gen z member of congress from florida's 10th congressional district. he announced that to supporters in olinda after the race was called tuesday night according to nbc. irene in texas on the republican line. go ahead please. caller: good morning. i hesitated calling c-span for many reasons. one important reality is that many callers -- i fear for america. i want to take a case in point. critically -- you are the owner of a business or the head of your household or have a family to care for. you have to employ someone to help you to manage your affairs.
11:43 am
you have two possible agents or applicants. one is a proven responsible successful, hard worker, educated, skillful, uncaring individual. the other is unproven, serious health problems, wants to release criminals that may hurt you and your family, supports invaders to your country and herbert is drugs being brought in -- her friend is drugs being brought in. do you know who i'm talking about? the race between federman and oz. host: what is the point? caller: who has been chosen? it was being sent to the senate? that reflects the choices made. that is why i fear for america. the voters have voted for
11:44 am
federman. -- fetterman. they have a limiting mentality on the way to suicide a jumbo think with. america seems to be lost. he reflects on the education of america. abysmally low ranking. that is how the democrats like it. that is why they supported. that is the way they want it. host: we will go back to john mcardle. host: about an hour ago we said we would go to the dccc headquarters for a press conference by chair sean patrick maloney. the congressman from new york's 17th district. he's the head of the campaign arm for democrats this cycle. we have not gone there yet. the conference has not started but the news is out. sean patrick maloney, the house campaign chair conceded to republican mike lawler, the new
11:45 am
york assemblyman in the 17th district race. further confirmation coming from the speaker of the house herself. nancy pelosi putting out a statement on sean patrick maloney's defeat. this is what she said. chairman sean paick maloney has been an outstanding leader of the d triple c. content his credit that are, candidates at the mobilization message and money to run excellent races and win tough districts. republicans may have gained a pirate victory. it came at the expense of other possible republican wins. house democrats have exceeded expectations and we have received -- continue t be grateful to sean patrick maloney for the successful operation he led that brought us to this point. that is speaker nancy pelosi in the statement that came out this morning. to let you know where we are in the house. 61 races yet to be called.
11:46 am
many in the tossup category. republicans with 200 seats in the 118th congress. democrats at 174. 218 needed to win. a reminder for the senate as we approach new and eastern time the y after the election. five races yet to be called. those races coming in alaska and arizona, g and nevada, wisconsin as well. the five races that our yet to be called. we are working out the associated press calls. there is some reporting that wisconsin has been called for ron johnson. associated press has not called that race yet. a check in on georgia, the latest numbers. some new results have come in in georgia. let me get you to that race.
11:47 am
raphael warnock is trying to hold onto his seat. 49.4% there to herschelalr's 48.5%. 100%epting in georgia. no call in that race. in georgia, you need 50% plus one vote to be declared the winner. or else he goes to a runoff on december 6. they could be another month of campaigns, campaign ads, and a lot of focus if this comes down to georgia being the key to control of the united states senate. host: what could happen if the house does turn republican in the house minority leader kevin mccarthy talking about what could republican-led house look like. here is comments from earlier. [video] >> i know it is a late night but first i want to start by thanking every candidate and
11:48 am
their families for running. [cheers] i want to thank the staff, volunteers across this country that supported this movement. thank you to everyone who voted republican for the very first time. [cheers] i want to thank the millions of supporters across this country. two years ago when i became leader, republicans had less than 200 seats in the house. that cycle we picked up 14 seats when every single person said that would be impossible. if you believe in hard work and the american dream, these results proved there is a place for you and the republican party. [cheers] tonight we built upon those gains two years ago. it is clear we are going to take the house back.
11:49 am
[cheers] in new york, we defeated the democrat campaign chairman. sean patrick maloney. [cheers] sean patrick maloney, which will be the first time in over 40 years the dccc chair lost his reelection. [cheers] on long island, anthony d esposito won a seat that joe biden carried by 17 point. we are on the verge of a historic -- verge of historic gains in new york. in florida, we gained four seats. we are poised to sweep the entire state of iowa. i will tell you from the southern border, monica de la cruz to virginia beach of jim
11:50 am
ciggins, to detroit with john james and houston with wesley hunt, we are expanding this party. [cheers] let me tell you, you are out late. when you wake up tomorrow we will be in the majority and nancy pelosi will be in the minority. [cheers] the american people are ready for the majority that will offer a new direction. that will put america back on track. republicans are ready to deliver it. it is a new direction towards an economy that is strong. where you can fill up your tank, feed your family, where your paychecks grow. a new direction towards a nation that is safe. where communities are protected. law enforcement is respected and criminals are prosecuted. a new direction towards the
11:51 am
future that is built on freedom. where children come first and are taught to dream big. and a new direction towards a government that is accountable. where government works for you instead of against you. republicans will work with anyone who was willing to join us to deliver this new direction. that americans -- new direction that americans have demanded. our work begins now. let's get america back on track. thank you, god bless and good night. [cheers] host: the house minority leader kevin mccarthy early on in the process. here is sidney from virginia, democrats line. caller: yes, i'm calling from alexandria. what happened last night i believe is that people decided to choose democracy, especially a lot of young voters.
11:52 am
anytime you have the trump followers -- the lies trump followers are repeating, is not democracy. i knew it was going to happen even before this. the american people were going to the polls and they would vote for democracy. that is what happened. and i'm happy. host: from the independent line, anthony in massachusetts. hello. caller: i want to reply to the woman a few minutes ago from tennessee. she was complaining about democrats doing so well. hello? host: go ahead. caller: you asked what reason the democrats did so well. all she could say was that because of what just happened to
11:53 am
paul pelosi. that mentality is skewed. it is not what is going on. it's about the policies. women want their rights. you can't take them away after they had them for 50 years. this election denial stuff, they want to set up in many red states the secretary of state's, no matter who wins, they will send their own electors if they decide they want to send the men. that is not a democracy. people are scared about losing our democracy. they don't want to lose social security. they don't want to lose medicare or privatize. these are issues people voted on. not conspiracy theories and talking points to scare people and work the strengths of the republican trump followers. host: i heard this quite a bit. what d by losing democracy? -- what do you mean by losing democracy? caller: you don't have democracy
11:54 am
when you vote and regardless of the outcome the state's consent and the electors they decide that they want to send in. there is no democracy. people are losing their choice. the republicans eventually want to take away your right to vote, because they want to stay in power.you don't want to have -- they don't want you to have the right to vote. host: wouldn't they lose their power if they lost the right to vote? caller: not where they are in control. they are already in the seat. how are they going to get ousted when they're holding a position like a secretary of state? i think that was pennsylvania, mastriani for whatever his name is. that is what he was fixing to do. host: finish your thought. caller: people are voting on the issues in the long-term, not the
11:55 am
things that happened to paul pelosi. educated people will make the right choice like that. host: john has been joining along the ride for all morning giving us information. we go back to him. host: it's been a good ride. thank you for driving the car. we want to keep you on the latest out of the house. another race. there are 60 went on called -- 62 on called races at this point. this phrase has not been called by the associated press. it looks like it is over new jersey 7th district. tom keene junior, a rematch from his 2020 matchup against congress and tom malinowski. it is at 52.2% for the republican challenger to 47.7%. this is tom malinowski's tweet a few minutes ago. i am deeply grateful to the people of the seventh district for the honor of representing
11:56 am
you and congratulate congressman elect kean. we did as well o better than in 2020. after redistricting it was too much of a hurdle. that is what the congressman wrote in conceding the race. it will be tom keene junior who will represent that seventh district of new jersey, served in the state legislature. he is the son of former new jersey governor from the 1980's,. also a member of the 9/11 commission. host: thank you very much. i want to thank all the people who put together this program. a lot of the teams taking in the debates and the speeches and lots of work going on by a lot of people. appreciate all their efforts. don in des moines, republican
11:57 am
like. -- line. caller: thanks for taking my call. i look at it this way. nobody is exactly right. ok? god has the final word. there is a lot of anger and a lot of disappointment on both sides. not even those papers in front of you are going to tell you what god has in mind. he's going to have the final word. host: how does that play out in yesterday's elections? caller: yesterday's election has no relevance. that is the way it will be for a while. it will be up and down, back and forth. the jewish nation found that out. they went back and forth. host: you are saying it does not matter who holds power in washington, d.c.? caller: god has the final word. his plan is not going to change.
11:58 am
host: that is don in des moines. joan in minnesota, democrats line. caller: how are you today, pager? -- pedro? i want to talk about the consequences of where we are heading with this authoritarianism, the nazism. all these people that are looking to make these changes in this country, their parents and families were immigrants. those immigrants ran away from that type of authoritarianism and worked and worked to become citizens, free with food and being able to make changes for their families. now all their ancestors in the offices they are in are trying
11:59 am
to take us back to where -- what their parents ran away from in europe. they better think a lot about it, because they are not honoring their heritage at all but putting us back to what they came from. i hope if they do get into office that they will have some part -- heart and decide this criminal they have been backing for these few years -- host: how does this play out with the election? caller: because the people that were out there working for trump by putting through a lot of inconsistencies have affected the election. they have the money behind them but they never thought once about what they were putting forward that was against this country. if they get in office and the republicans get in and the republicans get in office, i
12:00 pm
want them to remember that their ancestors were immigrants, came from rough countries. host: let's hear from neil in arlington, virginia. caller: i think both parties have a lot to take away from yesterday. i think there is a lot of factors that lined up where they should have done really well yesterday. they should have performed far better than they did. i think it is a testament to the message and what their platform is. it doesn't resonate with the good portion of americans. there are a number of factors that play into their unpopularity with the generation coming of age to vote right now. i don't see a lot of viability for them long-term. they need to figure out what they are going to do if trump is their nominee again.
