>> before we get to that conversation, what is the center for growth and opportunity and how are you funded. >> it is an economic research and we are based out of utah state and i work primarily in innovation and i have researched students and we work on -- i work primarily on tech innovation and figure out how to get people back to work and that is something that is important and critical right now but we work on a range of different issues including environmental stewardship and we are concerned with what is going on in the left with the deserts and water.
12:00 pm
we have a big component that involves immigration and thinking through those areas. we are a small group and this poll is one of the more interesting things we are trying to cobble together -- we are trying to cobble together views on how people think about and understand abundance and the future and how tech innovation fits into this. host: vcgo.org is where you find it. what is abundance and how do you pull on it --poll on it. >> -- guest: supply chains are having serious problems and i was in target a couple days ago and there were these little tax that say we no longer have
12:01 pm
these. i was looking for advil and there was attacked this as our supplier can i get this now so what we have seen in the public policy conversation our folks and researchers and economists thinking about how do we solve this problem in the future? how do we ensure the world of the future is the world not where we have these critical problems and where the supply chain is having issues and people can get the things they need but how do we create a world in which there is abundance and that, to me, it is an interesting point and it is pulling people over the" drop -- divide and that is a critical part of this which doesn't fit into the left-right divide. that is where i find interest in it where we try to create an

agenda that people agree with and strive for? host: the first question in the survey -- to have a thriving and fulfilling life and your options for answers are 200 years ago, right now, to hunter years in the future and right now -- 200 years in the future and not sure. let's start with that. guest: there is a notion that younger generations are not as optimistic about the prospects of the future and the pole suggests that is not the case and a fourth the people said that -- a quarter of all people said that they think it is probably the best time -- today and 15% says 200 years in the future and another 15% says in
12:03 pm
the past and back of cash the poll shows that half of all individuals were unsure and what that suggests is -- to me, that says that there is a possibility that can help people think about what we could do better for the future. i think it really suggests that there is a big openness to it. what is critical in our poll is that generally speaking younger people are far more optimistic about the future and about the current state of the world, at least as this question suggests. host: 18 to 29-year-olds, 31% saying that right now is the best time to be born to have a thriving and fulfilling life. another quarter saying it is the future. how does that answer lead us to finding out about abundance in this country? guest: those two things are
12:04 pm
intimately connected. thinking about the future means we will be making investments today that are not going to necessarily pay off until 15 to 20 years down the line. >> you can watch the rest of this discussion on a website c-span.org and we will take you to a conversation with congresswoman suzan delbene he -- on privacy. your watching live coverage on c-span -- you are watching live coverage on c-span.

>> it looks like a conversation with congresswoman susan dell benny and anna palmer will start shortly and we will take you to washington journal until they come back. guest: i thought there would be a bigger concern into innovation and for folks to be concerned about the government, having certain policies and ensuring we are innovative and my feeling is -- is that if we were to poll on all patients, the united states would, ahead but this is a general dichotomy we often see. should the government be focused
12:06 pm
on safety or innovation? i would say that, as someone who does work in public policy, i think the most interesting part of all of this is you can do both. the search for better ways of doing things is also the search for safety. those two things for me are intertwined. what we are really trying to get with this poll is people's flash opinions on this. should the government be focused on safety or innovation? host: we are talking about the g cgo's abundance poll. william rinehart is our guest involved in that paul and having --that poll. and having this conversation about abundance and america's future this thanksgiving weekend. you can join the conversation. democrats, (202) 748-8000. republicans, (202) 748-8001. independents, (202) 748-8002. he is with us for an have our

urso. you have this survey and results we are going through. whose hands do you want the is poll in? guest: we have a normal tech poll. we are hoping that policymakers, people in congress and the local level start thinking critically about innovation and about abundance. it is one of our big components. we are really hoping that this is to get a sense of where people are. two get a sense of innovation, where people fit in with innovation and safety at all of the other questions we ask today -- asked today. >> we will take you live to a conversation with congresswoman susan dell benny -- delve in -- susan dell benny --
