host: we welcome back to the program leah greenberg, faux founder of the group indivisible. thanks for coming back on the show. remind folks of your group, what it does, and how you are funded. guest: we represent thousands of grassroots voters around the country who activated following the election of donald trump. there folks who decided i have got to do something this, i have got to help our democracy and our neighbors. they started to organize and work locally and nationally. seven years later, they are still working to protect our democracy and advance a progressive agenda. we are funded through a combination of grassroots money and other things. host: how would you describe the aggressive movement as it stands today? guest: we have had exciting

policy advances the last couple of years with the biden administration. we have seen legislation on climate change, reduction in child poverty, a host of major advances through legislation. we have also seen the dangerous backsliding led by the supreme court. we have seen a dobbs decision that has dramatically reduced access to abortion across the country. we have seen attempts to take out environmental protections. we have seen a host of efforts for republicans to accomplish things they could not accomplish democratically through voting. host: the dobbs decision at the supreme court, do you think that is a larger resonating force than what happened in the last week? guest: absolutely. what we are seeing consistently is democratic over for performance -- over performance.

we are seeing a dramatic shift. in ohio, republicans attempted to put on the ballot the special election with the goal of making it harder to pass future ballot initiatives and make it harder to get them on the ballot. they scheduled it for august. they were hoping no one would notice the special election. that has not happened. activists sewed up all over the state -- showed up all over the state and did a ton of activation. it was a proxy fight to make it less likely for ohio voters to pass reproductive rights in november. they campaigned, got the word out, and successfully defeated the effort to subvert the process. host: are there other ways to

gauge where you are? guest: i think this specific issue is happening in a lot of places. republicans are realizing their positions are out of touch with mainline voters. they are looking to subvert the process by which voters have their voices heard. if you're looking at places like florida or montana, there are ongoing efforts to restrict access to the ballot initiative process so it is harder to get something on the ballot and harder to pass an amendment. this is an ongoing effort to subvert democracy to ensure their policies triumph. there are ongoing and upcoming abortion referendums around the country where we need to lean in. in ohio, this is the first step. in, there is going to be a reproductive rights -- in november, there's going to be a reproductive rights amendment on the ballot.
