evangelicals in the country, 40 million of whom don't vote, 50 million of whom are not even registered. what is the plan to harness those votes for you in november? >> such an incredible statement, question. great people. they are 95% for me, but they don't vote proportionately. if they all voted, nobody could beat you. i have total support from evangelical christians. and from other groups. i will tell you another group that doesn't vote, gun owners. the nra endorses me every time. but you look at the numbers, i don't know what it is. they are rebellious or something? i don't know what it is. evangelicals come if they voted, you could cancel the election, they wouldn't need an election. gun owners, they felt like at 16% or something. if the people, because they want to take your guns away.

she wants to confiscate your guns, take them away. now she's trying to get out of it. she had policies about fracking. she was totally against it for 15 years. now all of a sudden she came out in favor? same with guns. she said -- no, i don't want to take your guns. for 20 years she has wanted to take your guns and suddenly she doesn't want to? politicians always revert back to where they were in the beginning. that's the natural inclination. host: we are asking you the question this morning, do you think your candidate will win? tell us why or why not. let's start with elaine caller: in st. louis. thank you, mimi. i also want to take this chance to say thank you to c-span for the opportunity. i definitely think that miss harris will win the election.

she is fair and honest. i think it is reasonable that people change their opinion. we are supposed to grow as people. changing your opinion is a way of life. as an older adult, retired, i took to heart michelle obama's statement, do something. i went down to the board of elections here in st. louis. you can secure your voter registration card, so that i can register my neighbors. i go to my community. i always have a card with me when i'm out and about. i share my opinions in a respectful manner to try to

convince others to do so. oh then i earmark, from my pension, $100 a month to give. but i am so upset that there is so much money needed to run for these elections. you give once and then they bombard you with, with emails. text messages. give, give, give. it's disgusting. i hope that when democrats go back in, we go back in and make changes. we need to add people to the supreme court, just to be fair and honest. and we need to get rid of the electoral college. host: all right. here's joe, republican, georgia.

caller: i'm very fired up with donald trump, he'll be elected on the biggest landslide in history. i'm calling a lot of shows like yours. i'm down here in georgia working for trump. he'll win, he'll be the greatest president for the economy in history and we are getting everybody fired up where i live. i think it's going to be a landslide for donald john trump. i predict the stock market will break every record in history with donald john trump. i'm so fired up and i predict he will win in a huge landslide. host: how are you working for him? how are you getting the boat out? caller: i'm the number one caller of talkshows in the country, calling yours today, i'm planning to call all of them and tell them that i strongly support trump. i'm doing a lot of national talk shows, calling in and saying

7:10 am
mainstream. i think a lot of people unfortunately are going to fall for that. i hope trump is going to win, but i think he's not going to. he keeps making unnecessary inflammatory statements, you know, such as the claim about haitians eating pets, which hasn't been verified. or he will talk about harris' race and call her a communist. if you would just stick to immigration and the economy and stop making inflammatory statements, i think he would win. host: tell us why you are a donald trump supporter, why do you want to vote for him? caller: because of the illegal criminals and drugs coming in and killing americans.
7:11 am
also, he's going to get inflation down. he is pro-fossil fuels. if we drill for oil and export oil, that means the manufacturers are paying less to transport goods and services, meaning the prices on everything will come down. host: all right. daniel is next. democratic line, good morning. caller: [indiscernible] concerned that harris will not win, primarily because you are looking at specifically the gen z vote. i think there is a lot of excitement and enthusiasm coming out of that demographic, but i think that getting them to go to the polls and vote is a whole different aspect of the campaign.
7:12 am
i don't think they will do that well enough. host: daniel, are you gen z? caller: i'm a little bit past it, i'm 29 now. but if you look at the taylor swift endorsements, hopefully that helps, but i mean you have to remember, there were a lot of people on the right trying to trick gen z voters. we saw them sending out texts claiming you could vote for clinton, hillary clinton just by texting a vote to the number and it was a scam. they estimated that several thousand votes were put through that way, which obviously, they are not real votes. when you look at the swing states, trump barely won. it could be said that those gen z voters that wanted to vote [no

lawyer. trump has no regard for the truth. he's a demagogue of the highest order. this country will go to hell in a hand basket if he is elected. i try to bring out this message to my friends and colleagues. i don't care what your party affiliation is. i'm telling my good republican friends that this is going to be a watershed year, for sure. we will go down the toilet if trump wins. thank you very much for letting me get out this message. host: here is dwayne in jamaica, new york, independent. caller: i happen to be a black male independent living in new york city. the media has focused on black males not voting for kamala harris and they are wrong. i happen to be one that will vote for. listening to trump and the conservative right, it seems like this country is out of control.
7:17 am
it's scary for america to forget what they are saying. i don't see it that way. i see kamala coming in and putting a little bit of calm and ease to it. i would hate to see the old trump and his minions come in, stephen million -- stephen miller, all of these characters coming back into office and destroying these -- this country. that's what i'm afraid of. he keeps saying democracy, democracy. that's it. immigrants come to this country, democrats come to this country many times over. they are not killing pets like the callers said. january 6, they were all americans. they destroyed the capital. they hurt a lot of people. why aren't we talking about that? thank you. host: i was going to say, can you tell us how old you are?
7:18 am
caller: i am 59 years old. host: in a recent interview with black journalists in philadelphia, harris was asked about getting the support of young black men, this is what she said. caller: it's very important to not operate from the assumption that black men are in anybody's pocket. black men are like any other voting group. you got to earn their vote. so, i'm working to earn the vote, not assuming i'm going to have it because i'm black, but because the policies and the perspectives i have understands what we must do to recognize the needs of all communities. i intend to be a president for all people, specifically as it relates to what we need to do around economic opportunity, to your point. i started before i was at the top of the ticket with an
7:19 am
economic opportunity tour focused on black men, understanding that for example we have so many entrepreneurs in the community without access to capital, but they have great ideas, and incredible work ethic. the ambition, the aspiration, the training, but don't have the necessary relationships. my work included as vice president giving billions to community banks, including working with big banks to do that, to increase access to capital for our small businesses and startups. part of our economic opportunity plan going forward is that right now, start ups, entrepreneurs, small businesses only get a tax deduction of $5,000. nobody starts a small business with $5,000. i'm expanding that to $50,000, understanding again that when people have the opportunity to have the resources to get started, they are going to put
7:20 am
the good ideas and hard work into it. part of what i also know is that our young black men, like any group of people, anybody, our small businesses, they are really the backbone of our economy overall. when they do better economically, we all do better. host: take a look at a text is that we got from sandy in bloomington, indiana, who said "i am certain harris will w the popular vote, but i fear trump will win the electoral college. the electoral college needs to be abolished so that we are a democracy where every vote counts." jen, unailiated, said "kamala harris every day, two terms." lyle says, "if you want more crime, more illegals entering the country, appeasing russia, vote democrat. i'm voting for trump." here is

dan, florida, independent line. caller: i think she's going to win because abortion is a big thing and she's got a lot of backers. if you watched that big thing up there the other day, people are dying in georgia because of the laws. dying because they can't have operations. doctors are getting sued. if you do an operation, you are sued, you lose your license and could go to jail. she's got the union vote, she's got the youth vote, she's got so many celebrities backing her. they had a big rally in michigan with oprah winfrey. live-streamed all over the country. the parents of those two little girls, the girls that died in georgia, they wouldn't operate on the mother, the daughter, because they might get sued and she died on the operating table. and i think she's got the union

vote. plus january 6 is real and he did that. he tried to hang mike krantz and he smashed the whole place up and now he wants to give another $5 trillion tax cut to millionaires and a bit -- billionaires. his plans will cripple the country. no tips on social security. wanting to give a $5 trillion tax cut like last time. he's a liar and he's always been a liar and he's not a business person. are you still there? host: yes. caller: he's not a business person. his father gave him 400 and $40 million and he squandered it away. host: he mentioned unions. reuters says this, "teamsters
7:23 am
will not endorse trump or harris in the presidential race." this is from "the hill," "local teamsters unions endorse harris ." you can read more about that on "the hill." beverly, illinois, democrat, good morning. caller: i'm trying to get myself together. good morning. i am for kamala harris. i can't vote for a convicted felon to come back into office. he is a proven liar. he will tell you what he's going to do. he's been convicted. he says that he could kill somebody in the middle of the street. well, bomb threats have been put out on multiple people in ohio to potentially be killed and his
7:24 am
people still support him. it's amazing how much he would say. that we are forced to even have him run for office is humiliating to the country. he should be somewhere in jail. he's a criminal. he's a narcissist. he's an enemy of our country. i can just start rambling off all the things that make him -- i'm sick, i don't want to start rambling and repeating myself. i'm going to end now. thank you for taking my call. host: rob, independent, new york. caller: i'm glad you let me get on. i'm very confident that our candidate will win. i'm talking about our local congressional race. we are in the new york 22nd district, which was recently
7:25 am
gerrymandered. i'm confident because last saturday, in the parking lot of a mall here, the local republican county committee was reduced to selling krispy kreme donuts in the parking lot. so, they are broke. they are broken. i think they are broken because of donald trump, who has left an indelible stain on the american presidency. host: tell us who is running in that district. caller: i will. the current incumbent is a republican by the name of williams, who was a carpetbagger to begin with. he lived outside the county before he was elected.
7:26 am
we gerrymandered it -- they gerrymandered it to bring him home. now he lives in the district he represents. the democrat, and i am a true independent, the democrat is a man named conway, who is a very well respected and is now retired science teacher from one of the largest school districts in central, new york. he was retired. he is currently a state senator. he is running as a novice for the house. as i said, when i saw the local county republican party reduced to selling krispy kreme donuts in the mall parking lot -- host: let's take a look at the national race. what are you thinking, that way?
7:27 am
>> it's harris. it's harris for one reason. two reasons. hope and joy. finally. people seem to be engaged. not because they are mad, but because they are back in the ballgame, realizing that what they do in the course of this race will ultimately make a difference. so, they are not depressed. they are energized. they are back up off the mat. host: all right, rob. let's take a look at "the new york times," where trump says that if he loses, "the jewish people would have a lot to do with it." speaking at an event, he spoke
7:28 am
against jewish people voting for democrats. here's what he said. [video clip] >> anybody over the last few years, anybody who is jewish and loves being jewish and loves israel is a fool if they vote for a democrat. but beyond that, beyond that, beyond that, if they love israel , anybody that votes for a democrat or camelot especially, this is the worst ever, the worse you ever had, makes barack hussein obama look like he loved israel by comparison, you should have your head examined. because it will face an unceasing blooding -- bloody war to obliterate the jewish state and drive jews out of the holy land.
7:29 am
that's what they want to do, drive jews out of the holy land. they are not forgiving people, you found that out on october 7. host: here's what kelvin says out mhigan, "democrats need to be up f or more points to win, a close election is w for republicans." here is sue in be dismissive of the middled to class. the people that toil for this country and not foreign interests should not be diissed. we are the bulwark of democracy." pak, philadelphia, says, "i think trump will win, the democrats don't have the same opportunity to steal the election like they did last time." here is dennis in ohio. good morning. caller: good morning.
7:30 am
how are you? host: doing good. caller: thank you for taking my call. here in ohio, we are energized, and i have heard some of the comments made about hope and joy, but i think that's the same thing happening here in ohio. we have sherrod brown running for reelection, that's really important for us. we also have another issue coming up. we are trying to get rid of politicians gerrymandering districts. it's been proven time and again that the republicans will do anything they can to hold onto power. we also have to flip the ohio supreme court. we have these amendments in the constitution that the legislature and supreme court simply work. so, we are fired up here in ohio. we are working hard.
7:31 am
i worked with the, i volunteer at the democratic party office in ohio. i see a lot of enthusiasm from people. we are having a long time getting signs, of course, our signs are printed by union printers. i'm sure that trump gets is printed in china, china. host: tell me about the argument that you make when you speak to undecided voters in ohio. what do you say to them? caller: it's pretty hard. i think that lines are pretty well drawn and i don't think there are that many undecided voters. i really don't. there are a lot of people, like for example here in ohio, if you are voting for a republican, you are voting to take your daughter's rights away from them. that's a big issue. host: if everybody is pretty
7:32 am
much decided, it's going to be about turnout. what do you tell people who have maybe decided not to vote or are not that engaged? caller: you know, that's another one of these things. we are doing a lot of phone calls. pollsters are going out. personally i have a list of 179 persuadable voters in my precinct where i live. i am already to go out and knock on doors and pass out information. we are trying to make sure that people realize that voting for harris is important, but voting down ballot is just as important . we have to get rid of the republicans in the state house, the state senate, the local government. we have to get rid of them. eddie one of these, any one of these republicans, they are nothing more than minions for trump. host: got it.
7:33 am
wayne city, illinois, republican, carla. caller: good morning. how are you doing? host: good. caller: i'm calling, like on the abortion thing, with that announcement for harris, that young lady whose father did horrible things to her. now, did she have her abortion? that is the question. trump didn't take anybody's rights away. trump left it to the states. host: to answer your question, yes, she had an abortion, but that was before the decision. caller: she's doing an advertisement for someone saying they are taking her rights away as a woman. well, no? she already had her abortion. her rights are fine. i'm just saying that abortion should be left for the states to
7:34 am
decide. heck, i remember when it used to be three months. three months in the first trimester to decide if you wanted an abortion or not. now they have got it where the states are taking over again. it's not trump that took it away. states have control over it now. states decide and that's fine. i'm not antiabortion if it's the life of the mother, rape or incest, you know? host: coming back to our question, i'm assuming that you are supporting donald trump. do you think he's going to win? caller: yes, i think you will. i think everyone is trying to say that he's a big, fat liar. you know what? i watched those debates and i never saw him lie once and she lied through the whole debate. if you want to go back and look at the results of that, i would
7:35 am
look at the fact checking on that program. on that debate they got him twice, three times they fact checked him on stage, not once fact checking her on the bloodbath situation. or just some of the other things that she said that he made comments about that had nothing to do with what she was claiming it had to do with. so, people are confused. i understand that. i have invited voters. i mean, go with your heart, follow your heart. it can feel like you are totally with your economy, your electric bills being too high, go with your heart if you feel like you need someone in their who is going to be strong and get that stuff reduced, i would vote trump. host: got it, carla. sonny, fort lauderdale, florida, independent, good morning. caller: good morning.
7:36 am
thank you for taking my call. first of all, i would like to say that the young lady that had -- you had a girl who said she was raped by her stepfather and, you know, then it was a kamala harris ad, but donald trump has steadfastly supported the exception for rape or incest. how many times does he have to say it? can i just say this? i don't want to be hung up on -- i'm a trump supporter and it seems like i come in here and they don't do anything good about trump that i'm hung up on. i heard people ramble on. the lady said earlier, i don't want to ramble, but she did. anti-transfers can give speeches in they are not hung up on, so can i please make a few points? host: you are on now, go right ahead. caller: ok, here's one thing.
7:37 am
i have a lot of good friends from new york who are haitians, came here from haiti. they are very hard workers, they are wonderful people. i understand there are 20,000 haitians in ohio, ok? i don't believe the story about them eating pets. but even in european countries they do that, when people are hungry they get desperate. but the point is this, how many haitians that are there of the 20,000, how many have died? i don't think they are being hurt or injured. don't they have cell phones? hello? host: ok. was that all the point you wanted to make? caller: no no no, i want to say one more thing.
7:38 am
don't hang up on me. ok. so, the concern is, you know, none of them have died, but in just the two years they have been there, how many african-americans have died in chicago, in cleveland, and it's never discussed? why is that? shootings, kids, teenagers, it's not covered. donald trump is going to do something about it. let me finish. donald trump, donald trump gave up many millions of dollars to black colleges. he let many young men out of prison who were arrested for making a mistake at a young age. and what are they doing? you never hear on this show what about all the poverty in chicago, where they have their convention, ok, and they are banging their chest saying,
7:39 am
"hope and joy, hope and joy." host: do you think that donald trump is going to win the election? caller: i love donald trump. i won't say i love donald trump. i like donald trump. what i get activated by with him is he tends to ramble on, ok? as many old people do. i'm old. i'm pretty old, to. i'm on the lower rung of old. he tends to ramble on, he does say offensive things. if he says something, i don't think -- host: all right, sonny. . caller: i attempted to get trump -- biden knocked off the ballot, he was mentally deficient.
7:40 am
the democrats kept putting on this show that he was competent. i resent that very much. host: are you talking about 2020 or the primary? caller: talking about the primary election here in illinois. the democratic party of illinois was all for biden. i thought what is wrong with you people, he can barely string together a sentence or put two words together that makes sense if he mumbles all the time, wanders all over the place, falling on his face. they were going to put this man up for us. now it's harris? ridiculous. host: who do you think is going to win? caller: i tell you what, i have my objections with donald trump,
7:41 am
two, he's a bought and paid for politician owned by the jewish lobby, ok? he says nothing about what's happening to the palestinian people. i know a lot of palestinians in the chicago area. they would probably vote for trump if you would one time go to gaza and see what the jews have done there. it's outrageous, both parties, the democrats and republicans are all tied into the jewish lobby. host: all right, arthur. if you recall, the uncommitted group in michigan, politico says this, the uncommitted group won't endorse harris as she goes through michigan. they arose out of efforts to protest the biden policies in the israel hamas war, or endorse the vice president, but urged against voting third party or for trump.
7:42 am
getting people to vote uncommitted earlier this year in the primaries, they said in a lengthy statement that they oppose donald trump and that his agenda includes plans to accelerate the killing in gaza while intensifying antiwar organizing, urging against voters for any third party candidates in november, which leaders say would help a trump victory in key swing states. here is craig. brunswick, ohio. hello, craig. craig? caller: how you doing? in morning. host: good morning. go right ahead, you are on. caller: i was waiting for you to ask the question. host: ok, do you think your candidate is going to win in november? caller: i know my candidate is going to win in november. host: why?
7:43 am
caller: because donald trump is the man. i almost think that your show needs to change its name to the democrat journal. when the democrats call by phone , claiming they are so great, this is how i answer the phone when they call, "welcome to the joe biden i hate joe biden show, go ahead, call her," and they usually don't call back. host: all right, greg. milwaukee, independent line. caller: thank you for taking my call. good morning. wow. a whole host of calls. i used to be a republican up until 1988. since that i haven't really been able to vote for "my candidate." i will be voting for harris, but once again she's not my candidate. but i feel that this abortion issue is what's going to take
7:44 am
her over the top. the reason is, i think that regardless of the party you are in, if you are a woman, nobody's going to tell you what to do. i think it's very unfair when pro-life supporters take their position because it is an absolute one-sided deal for all practical purposes. when you are pro-choice, that allows for the pro-life people to be able to exist. i think there are a lot of republican women who don't want to get into arguments with their husbands or their friends and are silently going to vote for harris. i think that harris, with all of these close polls, i think that harris is going to win by more than 10 million votes.
7:45 am
not only that, like another previous caller, what scares me -- and that scares me, but concerns me greatly, is if we live in a democracy, the only way the republicans are winning is through the electoral college and to me, the electoral college is completely anti-american, anti-democracy. host: all right. real quick, here is real clear politics with their latest aggregate of polls. there's a whole list of holes that they aggregate here. this is nationally right now, it stands at 1.9 -- sorry, 49.3 for harris, 47.3 for trump, within the margin of error, that's the national poll. here is a recent add from
7:46 am
football hall of famer, lou holtz, endorsing president trump. [video clip] >> listen, this is hall of famer lou holtz, and we need trump now more than other. he will secure the borders and inflation. make america great again. nothing is more important for the future of this country and it hangs in the balance this election. i'm sure that president trump will be successful in making america great again and he needs your help. remember, we are team drop -- we are team donald trump." host: sharon, silver spring, maryland, good morning. caller: i don't know how anyone on this earth can support a grifter, a convicted felon who was so racist, so anti-semitic that he's a disgrace to the nation. are all of these people calling in buying his cards for $1500 so
7:47 am
that they can get a piece of his suit, the alleged assassination attempt? give me a break. as far as the jewish lobby, tell them to take the jewish lobby and stick it where it doesn't belong. host: assuming you are with harris, our question is do you think harris will win in november? caller: if it is a legitimate election, it will, but i don't trust any of the republicans and mr. graham is trying to get involved in the nebraska election now. he should be thrown out of the senate once and for all. thanks, you all are great. bye-bye. host: bonnie, independent, good morning. caller: good morning, this is bonnie. my candidate is the green party candidate, jill stein. there is a possibility she could win, if the 40% of republicans and 40% of democrats, before

biden dropped out, though, who don't want their candidate on the top of the ticket, they don't want that person, if they would vote, and the people who want to stay on the couch would get out and vote for the third party candidate. the reason why i would not vote for harris, unfortunately, is because of the israeli genocidal war in palestine. 34 people have died from starvation. this is genocide, according to the international court of justice. our government is continuing to send weapons of genocidal war. i think that both the republican and democratic parties are morally bankrupt. if everyone would let the scales drop from their eyes and see that, then jill stein -- i have
7:49 am
hurt her, as well as cornell west, speak at a demonstration, i believe it was the end of october in liberty square at the willard hotel. they were both eloquent about saying we have to stop the genocide. that was in october. now it's almost october, a year from now. host: not to cut you off, but i wanted to -- i don't know if you read the article in politico about the uncommitted group in michigan who said they are not endorsing harris, but they also urged people not to vote for donald trump or for a third-party candidate, because they feel the third-party candidate vote would help donald trump win the white house. how do you react to that as a supporter of dr. stein? caller: i feel i can't morally
7:50 am
vote for any of those parties right now on the ticket let it fall where they may. i do not want to some research -- i do not want to see them out there for obvious reasons. we are an independent type of people. we fought for independence. we need more information about the third parties. they ought to be on any kind of debate in the future. the fact that mr. trump doesn't want to debate again? lincoln debated a whole bunch of times with mr. douglas. i think the people who are independent-minded, both democrats and republicans and whoever, need to get out there and vote for dr. joe sign or cornell west, if that is who
7:51 am
they believe is the greatest best person. host: bonnie, got it. this is the story from cnn, yesterday, "i am a black nazi," gubernatorial candidate from north carolina made disturbing comments on a online pornographic quorum, making a series of inflammatory comments more than a decade ago in which he referred to himself as a "black nazi." despite recent history of anti-transgender rhetoric, he said he enjoyed watching transgender pornography and referred to himself as a "perv." he denies making those comments, here is what he put out on x. the news media is at it again. you all have seen the out right lies of josh stein on these assets. now a story leaked by him, let me reassure you that the things you will see, those are not the words of me. you know my words, you know my character. you know i have been transparent in this way before. folks, this race right now, opponents are desperate to shift from the issues towards tabloid trash. we can't allow that to happen. we have seen this stuff in the past as well. a victim of a high tech lynching? looks like mark robinson is. he refuses to be on stage and in
7:53 am
is focusing on election tabloid lies. we are not going to let them do that, we are in it to win it. we will see you where? on the campaign trail. it's host: -- host: here is what the harris campaign has put out. -- a trump campaign put out. [video clip] thanks tough opponent, he is us -- max it's a tough opponent -- max it's a tough opponent, he's at -- >> he's a tough opponent, he's a star, a lot of money? rich as hell. [laughter] anything you are going to do, quadruple it. doesn't mean anything.
7:54 am
we have to be careful. we have to cherish him. it's a fine line. you have a fine wine. he's an outstanding person. done well and quickly. host: our question, today, do you think your candidate will win in november? teresa, north carolina, good morning. caller: good morning. i have several things to say. first of all, i want to say that anybody who would vote for harris, they have got to be cuckoo in the head. as far as abortion goes, i'm a woman. i have two daughters. i have one granddaughter. my theory is, keep your pants
7:55 am
up. what is so hard? host: let's go back to the question. if you are supporting donald trump, do you think he is going to win in november? caller: i know he's going to win. host: why? caller: god has got his back. the democrats put him through some kind of people. -- evil. and with harris [no audio] host: randy, good morning. caller: thank you for having me, thank you for taking my call. i find it very hilarious that the callers calling in are totally out of sync with what's going on in america. i believe that harris is going to win. i really, really hope that people wake up. trump has done so much harm to this country.
7:56 am
every other country out there is laughing at us. it's unfortunate that people are responding with negativity, racism. women have the right to have their bodies controlled by themselves, not the government. there's too many people in that room, the doctor's office. there should be the doctor in there should be the woman. let women do what they want with their bodies. no man has the right to tell a woman when and where to create a child. host: do you think that kamala harris is going to win? why? caller: absolutely, absolutely. i watched those debates, i watched her interview with oprah winfrey, she is on point and is giving us what we need. trump has done nothing but cause chaos. he put the hatred up front for people to hate. it's very unfortunate.
7:57 am
i'm sorry, can't have trump for the next four years. i lived with trump for four years. my money is not better with trump. it wasn't better with biden, but it will be worse with trump, trump himself is a narcissist and he needs to be not reelected. host: mike, republican, good morning. caller: good morning. what's the topic? the candidate will win in november? they will. got to say one thing. harris, where'd she come from? she's a crazed lunatic. watch her on the stage and stuff, things are falling out of her face, slobbering all over herself. anyhow. host: let's get back to the topic. why do you think that trump is going to win? caller: we need stability in our country and right now. it's going to hack, it really
7:58 am
is. we cannot have another hussein obama administration controlling the country, it's ridiculous what they are doing. you know, they want a one world government? face it. that's what the clintons are working for, that is what the obamas are working for. the great deceiver, which obama is -- host: obama is not running for president. caller: well we need them to stop this crap, what they're are doing. another thing, this georgia vacation, it was two years ago that that lady died? host: ok, kathleen, independent, you are next. kathleen, are you there? caller: hello? host: yes? caller: this is kathleen calling from texas. i've been watching the candidates. i'm a vote for trump to save
7:59 am
this country. if we don't stand up and vote, everyone in this country, from 18 to 99, you had better get out and vote to save the united states. host: james, go ahead. caller: i would like to talk about the hypocrisy of the democrats. the rallying cry is my body, my choice. but if you didn't take the shot and worked for the federal government or the military, you was barred to because you didn't take the back scene. is that my body, my choice? nao. host: do you think that your candidate is going to win? caller: i sure do, donald j. trump. host: why do you think that?
8:00 am
caller: to make america great again. let me tell you something, elections have consequences. that was set by obama. three justices on the supreme court. he believes in democracy, he believes in the love of the country, he loves america and that's all i've got to say about donald j. trump, thank you. host: that's our last call for this segment, but coming up next we have two lawmakers joining us to talk about budget negotiations in congress. we will hear from al green, a first. later, we talk with representative dan newhouse, who represents part of washington state. this

the deadline is january 20, 2025. >> "washington journal" continues. host: welcome back. we are joined by at representative a democrat from the ninth district and serves on the finances committee. welcome. guest: it is a pleasure to be with you. thank you. host: let's talk about the continuing resolution. guest: the latest is that one was to pass later -- earlier in the week but it failed and then another one to vote on that would take us into december. hopefully before christmas. that one will it be a clean cr, meaning there won't be any policy riders associated with it. host: what you think speaker
8:05 am
johnson should do next? guest: i think you should engage in negotiation instead of capitulate. if you negotiate we can get a cr done today. if it is capitulation then he has to carry it with the caucus and seems to have difficulty getting them to align with him. i think it can be done. our site has always been willing to negotiate. it is the best way to get things done. they last longer when you negotiate because you don't have the other side pulling against whatever has been voted on. i am very much for negotiation. host: what will democrats agree to? does it have to be a clean cr? guest: this is a good time to say that i speak for myself and everybody who agrees with me. republicans or democrats that agree, great. there is no doubt it can pass but will it have a riders
8:06 am
associated and then also people who want to have their own rider. one had a rider with the save act. if you're going to include that, then let's have john lose voting rights act part of it as well because if you are going to have your voting rights act, let's have my voting rights act and then we will all be happy but we didn't have the opportunity. it was a closed room and it came to us with that and you had to take it or leave it. let's add some other things and we can do that. host: the act requires proof of citizenship to register to vote in a feder election. tell us your views and why you would vote against that and remind us of the john lose rights act. guest: the john lewis voting rights act is a piece of legislation that would help us
8:07 am
with something called preclearance. around election time we get new rules that come up and you want to move polling places from one place to another, add additional rules as it relates to how you can vote, having to have a certain ids. the outcome close to election time when they might not have an id. i challenge the system when we came up with the new requirement and i would try to get mine within the timeframe and i couldn't do it because i couldn't get my birth certificate in time. there are some people who couldn't afford to pay an amount of money, $80 or so, could be a little off one way or another. host: to get a new one. guest: right here the john lewis voting act would cover this and if you are going to have your voting rights bill, then let's have mine as well. host: user on the financial
8:08 am
services committee. what did you make of the fed cutting interest rates by a half points, was it the right thing to do? guest: i think it was appropriate. determine has done an outstanding job in my opinion. he managed what was a crisis. interest rates were very hard at one time and he has brought them down and he took them up because he had to to do something about the inflation. it was 14% at one point or more. so to get the inflation down, you increase interest rates because with the interest rates high, people don't spend as much. inflation is because generally speaking by a shortage of products and great demand for those products so people would pay more and as a result the prince of the product goes up. we have seen chairman powell bring the inflation down to what he perceives to be manageable,
8:09 am
invisible is two percent. he has brought it down but has not reached your goal but sees it going in the direction. host: do you think you should cut sooner? guest: second-guessing a guy who has more intelligence on the idea and i is a risky proposition. host: if you'd like to join our conversation, democrats (202) 748-8000, republicans (202) 748-8001, independents (202) 748-8002. let's talk about the election. this is a reuters headline that says one in four u.s. black men under 50 support to run for president according to an naacp poll. what does vice president harris need to do to turn that around?
8:10 am
guest: we have to recognize that a polling is a snapshot in time. it may be the case and but does not mean that on election day. what she has to do is what she is doing and that is communicate directly with the african ancestry and wood to the people in the country. we can't just say we are going to went with african-american males or females and she is communicating has a message i like. for too long, african americans have seen themselves as a part of a job economy. she has proposed that you can open your own business. she would have a tax credit for $50,000 for persons who want to start a small business. currently it is around $5,000. that is a good thing. because if you can move from a job mentality to a mentality of creating jobs in owning your own business, that is what you do. in so doing you have more influence on your community and half -- how the dollars flow
8:11 am
through. i compliment her on what she is doing and i think this is something that men and women of all colors should give consideration to. host: i want to get your reaction to mr. trump and mr. vance's comments on the haitians in ohio in the claims about eating pets. guest: i think they should rethink all of that. i'm trying to be polite. we think all of that. haitians are there because they were needed there, maybe not all of them but they needed a boost in the hair in economy and they needed workers. and are not eating cats or dogs or pets. this is something that has been contrived and has gone beyond and we ought to move away from that because what we have seen
8:12 am
it now the schools are being closed, threats are being made. the haitians have been a poorly treated, not just in this circumstance but for some time in our country. as an example, we had a policy at one time that if you came here from cuba and you had one foot in, you could walk in and start on a pathway to citizenship. if you are a haitian and came to this country and had a job and work working and we found you, we can send you back to haiti. it applied to cubans and not to haitians. so that's kind of treatment is something they have experienced for some time, even when they liberated themselves from france. they had to pay a ransom for liberated themselves. let's give them a chance to have the decency and freedom that other people have. host: you represent a part of texas. what do you say to people feel
8:13 am
like this country has been overrun by undocumented immigrants? is there something that could be done right now by the biden administration alleviate their concerns. guest: the aboriginal americans, the native americans, people that we call indians, imagine what they think about this over running they were here and were forced to go into an area that was unknown to them. they went to a land not nearly as fertile and they were abused in many ways if we are going to talk about too many of us here, then you should look at the full picture and understand what has happened to others. i don't think there are too many people here. i think the immigrants have made a great contribution to the country that i love.
8:14 am
i love the country. it is my favorite necktie. it looks dirty but it is not it is just old and i refuse to throw it away. have to understand that you can have people come and perform services and make the country better. undocumented people have performed services and they pay taxes. they buy gasoline and pay attacks and buy food and groceries and they pay taxes. they pay taxes and i am not saying they don't commit crimes. anybody who mitts a crime, let's deal with that person to the criminal justice whether they are undocumented or documented. you will go to jail and it is an offense. i'm not a person who believes it is time to pull the ladder in and we have enough but i think there are people who feel that way and rather than use the legal process in name-calling, they talk about the countries
8:15 am
and i try to warm the congress about this when i filed the articles of impeachment some time ago. this was something i focused on in one of my articles of impeachment that the level of discourse is being lowered and has come to a point now where it is almost unacceptable and was being done by someone who was running for president of the united states and became president. host: howard is in minnesota, democrat. howard, are you there? caller: i am host: here. go right ahead. caller: good morning, congressman greene. guest: good morning. caller: i am in minnesota. we have lost 11 mental health facilities in a year because of medicaid reimbursements and trump wants to block grant medicaid.
8:16 am
if we do that, we patchwork to confront the opioid epidemic. please advocate to increase the medicaid rate. guest: thank you very much. i greatly appreciate your call. i am one who wants to protect medicaid. there are some who would eliminate medicaid, medicare and social security. i believe in protecting all three and i do believe we have to make sure the epidemic has to be addressed appropriately in the reimbursement rate is something that has been called to my attention and something i favor doing what we can to increase so that the physicians will understand that we care about them having a decent day's pay for all of the hard years of work and labor they put in to become doctors. host: that stood catherine, st. joseph, michigan, republican. caller: good morning.
8:17 am
i've lived in michigan my whole life and we have children in houston and austin, texas. it is a beautiful place. my question to you is, first of all, let me tell you, my family used to be democrats all the way back in as the years have gone on, the way the democrats treat people, they district respect and the nastiness and the way they push things. it is not by words alone. it is by their actions. they have changed everyone. two examples. the dossier that misses clinton created to hurt trump and what really cashed it off for me and
8:18 am
changed me, and these are actions, was when mrs. pelosi ripped up president trump's speech. that rate you was a knife in my heart because the disrespect that the democrats have in the hatred that they have is what i am against. my question to you is, i watched on c-span the other day and i don't know who it was but they had a panel and were talking about all of the propaganda and all the countries trying to influence our alleged -- elections and what they were going to do. why don't we have something in the united states and take care of our own country and worry about the propaganda coming in
8:19 am
from other countries? host: let's get a response. guest: i am antithetical to propaganda from other countries in you have to worry about that because some of these things can become a part of the thought processes and cause people to make decisions based on propaganda as opposed to empirical evidence. and i don't want iran or any other country influencing our elections. this is our business and we out to take care of our business. when it comes to senator clinton and speaker pelosi, these are two very bright and intelligent women who have done remarkable things, absolutely remarkable things. ms. pelosi has demonstrated to
8:20 am
us that it was not as easy as it looked when she was managing the house. it looked as though she could corral and get us to go in any given direction at any given time and she did it with such grace and poise and appears that something you should do that is commonplace and now we see that it is not. i will address specifically what you said, the tearing up of the speech. when she did that that was a form of peaceful protest in my opinion. i am a supporter of peaceful protest and i have people who have protested against me. i am a supporter of peaceful protest. i think there are times in the discourse of the country you want to make sure you don't say things and to do things later on you would find to be unacceptable because others will adopt those policies and habits. i would support peaceful protest.
8:21 am
i think that was peaceful protest. i wouldn't have done it but i support her right to do it. host: let's go to the independent line in missouri city, texas, malik. caller: the reason why they are having problems reaching black voters for the democrats is because they don't care about black people. i live in mr. green's district and have contacted his office about a discrimination case. is the step percent left cap me and to this date he has never contacted me, nor has he spoke on a discrimination case at the brewery with anheuser-busch. we have state representative ron reynolds equally ineffective. black people do not feel respected when you have black members of congress who advocate
8:22 am
more for illegal immigrants than they do black taxpaying citizens. mr. green is a perfect example of that. he has never once for any person in the district assisted them in any matter, black people in this district have no representation. host: let's let him respond. guest: you probably had a lot of people that never represented any black people in his district. here is what i would invite you to do. if you have made the statements to my office that you say you have made it, there is a form you have to complete her we can help a person, if you are calling for help we tell you you have to request a request for help and privacy release form. if there is something we can do for you and we can't look into it simply because you want us to without telling us you want us to and would like to get that in
8:23 am
writing so we can defend ourselves later on if there is some indication that these are my private affairs and i didn't give anyone permission to look into them. i would invite you to call the office again and leave your information again. i will be back on c-span at some point in the future assuming everything goes well and i will give a report on your situation. i would like you to call my office, complete the privacy release form. i want to see it and give it the attention it deserves. if someone thinks it is improperly, you have my apologies. i'm not too big to apologize for mistakes if they are made. i challenge you are the number is heaven 13-3 83-9234. -- 713-383-9234. representative reynolds, i know
8:24 am
him and he represents his constituents quite well. he is with them and is at events that take place. and more important, he is part of the movement who helps people who need help who are sometimes living below the standards that we expect people to have. so i complement representative reynolds and i challenge you to let's you and i have an opportunity to work together. i forward to it. host: angelina, democrat, in michigan. caller: thank you, congressman. guest: thank you, angelina. caller: a quick comment. i have only recently seen a few interviews with you and i really appreciate your thought-provoking, genuine and smart statements. what i would like to ask is
8:25 am
being so far, i am just a few miles away from the canadian border, so being so far away from the mexican border and you are in a border state, could you please describe just a little bit about what it physically is like for people at the border for so people -- for people so far away from the order so we are not just wondering, is this true, is this true. and also, secondly, would you please talk about if donald trump was elected again, do you think they would even be talking about immigration anymore. guest: thank you. it appears to be that president trump, and i respect him. i will not demean him in any way. his immigration plan is a wall. he seems to think it would build a wall high enough and make it firm enough then you would have
8:26 am
an immigration problem. i don't agree with that very there are problems south of the border that have to be addressed in we address problems all over the world and we should address the border and that is what president biden tried to do and vice president harris try to address the problems by helping the people to have stability in their countries and have opportunities in their countries. people don't leave their homeland simply because they just want to come to america. it takes a lot to get a mother to tell her child that i can't go with you you go with this man because you will be safe when you get to america. it takes a lot for a mother to do that and we need to do something about the conditions that will cause a mother to put her baby in the hands of a stranger to get him to america. it is a great place to be.
8:27 am
we ought to do something south of the border. and she asked me about the conditions at the border. i've been to the border many times in my city is not on the water but i have seen it many times. we need to help cities border. they have had a large influx of the people. we should do what we can and we have done things with social services to help people but there are people trying as best as they can to prevent the social services from being available to people come here seeking asylum. if you don't the -- like the asylum laws, there is a process by which they can change but there are laws that allow people to come and if they are being persecuted in their home and fleeing because they hear harm to themselves, then the law allows people to come and ask for asylum. those laws can be changed but
8:28 am
they haven't been. if you are here than we ought to do what we can to make sure the people who are already here, the citizens and others that they continue to have a good quality of life while addressing the concerns. there are many people who are strangers in a foreign land before and we have taken many people in. it is almost humanitarian. it is about being humane. if you see people living in the streets, then you do what the good samaritans did or do you decide to move over to the other side of the road because of what might happen to me if i try to help a person living in the streets. some people are born into places and don't have the things we
8:29 am
take for granted. i think the good samaritan was right. you try to help people who need help, especially when they are not harming you. host: joel in tampa, florida, republican. caller: my comments are just in that form, commerce -- comment to congressman greene and i would like to hear his comments afterward. what, my thoughts are is that the government of the people in this country. the democratic party unfortunately has misled the american people tremendously. in fact with kamala harris, it is obvious that the president of the united states, joe biden has been incapacitated. ms. harris has spent years misleading the american people that i find it unbelievable the american people really wouldn't forget this and move on. and if you look back at her long
8:30 am
policies, extreme left-wing almost socialistic-communistic type policies she has advocated and now she is in a presidential race, one that was illegitimate in its form because no one has voted for her and now she wants to change all of that and the american people seem to be going along with this. it is amazing to me. host: i'm sorry to cut you off but we are running out of time and let's get a response. guest: i am of the opinion that president biden has been effective and being effective requires a certain level of intellect and mental capacity. he has been effective. $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that will benefit probably you and most people in this country, roads, bridges, airports and ports will benefit
8:31 am
from this $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill. the former president, i respect him, mr. trump, but the former president talks about infrastructure and he could never get it done. it was all joe biden who got the infrastructure bill through. it was joe biden who got the chips act through, the chips science act through. annette afforded us some $54.2 billion to help us to avoid what happened to us when we had the pandemic and the chips were not being produced. we introduced producing them ourselves and we originated this. and we had some work doing it and have done a great job but
8:32 am
this is all joe biden. effective and history is going to report him in ways that we cannot imagine now because of the way he has demonstrated a willingness to step aside and allow for vice president kamala harris to have this opportunity. he was still effective at the time he answered a call and i have great respect for the man. host: that is representative al green, democrat of the ninth district and member of the finance committee. coming up, we have congressman dan newhouse, a republican of washington, and appropriations committee member and a member of
8:33 am
the committee on u.s.-china competition. representative newhouse, good morning. guest: good morning. good to be with you. host: wanted to start with the latest on the continuing resolution. where does it stand in the house and what do you think needs to be done? host: we voted on that and it failed, and it was a cr until next month which included provisions to help secure our elections. it is important that we don't shut the government down. it has proven over history that every time that happens it just costs the american people a tremendous amount of money. so keeping things going is important and i am certain that the speaker and the leadership is working to come up with another plan so we can move forward. i have heard lots of talk about
8:34 am
and have been in discussions that we will have something by midweek read exactly what that package looks like i don't know. i just want to make sure people understand it is important that the government stays open. the republican rarities are reflected we will be passing on to a continuing resolution. we have done a lot to reduce some of the overspending. we have made sure priorities in place and spending for the military and veterans, which is important to me and spending for the agricultural and rural communities. those will continuing to ensure continuing resolution that will give us time of the senate and house to come together with the next year appropriation bills. host: would you be willing to vote for a clean cr? guest: i think it is important to take steps to secure our elections. there are many things in place
8:35 am
right now that ensure that. this was for sizing the fact that we need to do that. i think the things we have in place, policies, requirements in place accomplish much of that. even if we pass some of the securing the election provisions, it would be difficult for them to get to the whole process and be in place of the next month and a half. that is the reality. i think the american people want the confidence that elections are secure. closing the government to be does not make fiscal sense and is not a responsible way to move forward. it costs us money that we don't have an many people depend on the government to be open. that should be our underlying. host: and user on the committee for u.s.-china competition. can you talk about the initiatives you are working on
8:36 am
in that committee and what you think can be passed as the congress area -- congress. guest: one issue i have been working on and is important and we have made a lot of progress is the whole issue of the communist chinese party and their purchasing of agricultural assets in the united states. we were just last week able to pass legislation that puts the secretary of agriculture on the committee of foreign investments in the. that is a huge step for a couple of reasons because we know our system and process of keeping track and measuring foreign investment is lacking. so this will help strengthen that. this will also put the secretary of agriculture in a place that he can flag those things or she sees -- he or she sees as a
8:37 am
threat with the agricultural land purchases, involvement in our transportation and processing technology, all things important for hours. food supply. that truly is an issue of national security. one thing we have is somebody kisses and intended purchases of agricultural assets are national security -- near national security assets, military bases, power generation. those are some of the things we want to be careful of that the underlying reason why this is important is we have seen an increase by a factor of 10 of investments by the ccp in the united states over the last decade in our agricultural industry. i think our response to that is a very important step forward. host: i think you are referring
8:38 am
to the protecting agriculture from foreign adversaries act. guest: yes. host: what are the chances it will be passed by be signed by the president? guest: i think very good. it is been a bipartisan effort, it passed with 269 votes in the house. there is an identical bill in the senate. i think the chances of this being signed into law are actually quite good. host: there are offer -- also efforts to ban chinese made drones paid is that? guest: we passed several bills last week that addressed the relationship we have with the communist chinese party, china, whether the drones, electronic vehicles, american institutions and how they respond to some pressures from things like the confucius institutes. the kind of things that are important to the united states.
8:39 am
china having a dominant role in technology like drones that the military is dependent on, local law enforcement and people throughout the country puts us in kind of a precarious position when it comes to national security. we want to make sure our domestic industry can compete and be strong and be more confident in the machinery and technology that we depend on on a daily basis to be american-made. host: where you stand on the farm bill and what are the major issues? guest: as you probably know, last week we had just under 200 farmers in washington, d.c. storming the hill making sure members of congress understand how urgent it is for our agricultural industry to pass a farm bill. i am right there with them. i think the current farm bill which was good six years ago
8:40 am
does not answer the needs of the agricultural industry today in 2024. so the state of agriculture today it is imperative we pass this modern new farm bill. i will do everything i can to make sure that happens. my guess is maybe we have been talking to the chairman and members of the committee on a regular basis that after the election and we know the lay of the land, during what is called the lame-duck session, that the farm bill will be one of those things that will come up. host: congressman dan newhouse, republican, member of the appropriations committee and also on the select committee on u.s.-china competition. thank you for joining us. guest: you're welcome. always a pleasure. host: we have 20 minutes left and we will be in open forum. anything on your mind regarding public policy, the campaign,
8:41 am
politics, anything happening in washington, we are taking your calls. we will start with giovanni in missouri, republican. caller: i was wondering there is anything going to be done with iran getting involved with our elections like they did with russia. when russia got involved, we had every officer, everybody in washington, d.c. going nuts. i don't hear anyone going nuts about iran getting involved and stealing donald trump's information because they tapped into his computer and nothing is being done about it. that is what i wanted to say. host: here is bob, logan, utah, democrat. caller: good morning. i would like to talk about the
8:42 am
election and how any woman could ever vote for donald trump. he women and how he doesn't about the health care. maybe he is right when he said he can. any woman i don't how they could vote for him i guess that is all i have to to say. host: here is audrey in decatur, alabama. caller: this is my first time to . it is a pleasure. i have a question and have called my congressman over the years. we have a new one now, dale strong, i have called senators
8:43 am
and it is likeness, and never get a straight answer out of them. so if you could note this down the next time you have somewhere -- someone from congress talking about a continuing resolution, sm the way they do the resolutions they don't have it by october 1 and they passage in march and then rounded up to were going to spend a trillion dollars. do they get to spend the trillion dollars march until the 30th, and does cut down? host: it doesn't. they continue the spending, so starting october 1 they start the spending. caller: i understand that, and then when they cast it in march they have to spend the money by
8:44 am
september 30 because that is. host: you're talking about increases? caller: so they don't get the full budget in march. host: it doesn't start over again, let's say march or whatever the date is. it continues. caller: whatever budget they do pass it. host: correct. caller: do they get the full budget money appropriated? host: only for the full fiscal year. maybe i'm not clear on your question. caller: ok the fiscal year september 30 so september 30 it will be out of money and then run on scr and then until march past actual operation and that
8:45 am
money supposedly runs out timber 30 five. host: correct. caller: is that not double dipping? that is my question to one more point and i would ask everybody in congress and senate to support it. if they do the partial shutdown come could they please pay the military? i thank you for letting me ramble. host: mike in new jersey, democrat. caller: good morning. i thank you for c-span. as always, very balanced. people call all the time and complain it is not balanced. i don't understand if they watch it every day like i do they they could say that. my point is today will be about the guests from washington, congressman newhouse and then you had one from wisconsin

yesterday talking about the election and the voting and illegals voting for noncitizens. they want. the idea that there is that they are voting and going to make an illegal act to try to vote. there is no risk reward there. they are going to take a chance. they are in the country illegally and they know and they will take a risk of going somewhere and voting and getting caught and being deported? it doesn't exist. my point is it doesn't exist. mr. newhouse's credit, even if they pass along now, it won't work until next election cycle. why would you pass it now. drop it out of there and get the budget on track and move on. thank you for taking my call. host: mike in new jersey has a new senator, he was appointed and sworn in after new jersey

8:53 am
secretaries of state, national security advisor's secretary of defense chief of staff of the white house were unequivocal, nato and the european alliance with america should is not for the foreseeable future unshakable in support of our military and economic efforts to ensure russia remains defeated as was the case before trump decided to act stopping aid by the direction of the followers in congress and holding aid for many months. for many years russia has been and is now with the highest priority enemy doing whatever united states and western world. ukraine must be given all possible help to defeat russia

are counted in the census for representative appropriations. when you send the undocumented people or immigrants to the cities and states, the population increases and therefore your representative mount in your district will ease and expand. it is all a democratic ploy to expand the democratic representation appropriations and crush her fingers and hope they vote for the democrats. that is kind of something that is never talked about that they are included in the census for that purpose. calvin in houston, texas, independent. good morning. caller: my point is, the american people need to observe
8:57 am
what the rest of the world is doing. they need to talk more about the alignment going on with china, brazil, india, and south africa. if they are not careful, it is going to be america alone because the rest of the world is realigning itself without the united states. i went to the military in 1972, i would say 40% of the people in service for me or not u.s. citizens. now it is going to a people going into service and there he hates troops because minorities will no longer for this country and why should they go into service to defend the country. they need to observe what the rest of the world is. with trump getting elected, it
