debate between the two candidates, jd vance and tim walz was about yesterday's events in iran with them launching missiles gen israel. here is the response. >> that steady leadership is going to matter. it's clear and the world sought on that debate stage a nearly 80-year-old donald trump talking about crowd size is not what we need in this moment but it's not just that. it's those that were closest to donald trump that understand how dangerous he is when the world is this dangerous. his chief of staff john kelly said that he was the most flawed human being he ever met and both of his secretaries of defense and national security advisors said he should be nowhere near the white house. the person closest to them to donald trump said he's unfit for the highest office. that was senator vance. what we've seen out of vice

keep talking about another presidential debate. there have been two presidential debate. president trump has participated in two. the fact that the democrats got rid of their candidates and then put in another one does not mean that trump should have to go through a third presidential debate. host: so on the topic of last night's debate, what is about the moderation that troubled you? caller: well, they broke their own rules, number one. they had said prior to that they were not going to fact check and then they immediately started fact-checking jd vance. and i felt like when they would turn to walz for his rebuttal, the wording that they used was how would you like to respond to those allegations? but yet when they would give jd

legislature that. was the majority of the population i would say in this very controversial issue. roe v. wade was never codified. the case of planned parenthood versus casey in 1992 limited abortions to i think it's the 24th week, which is -- and on the other subject for israel to attack -- being attacked by iran sponsored terrorists. again, it's israel's right to defend themselves to the max. in other words, october of last year when hamas went into israel and killed civilians, they knew that israel would respond with overwhelming force.
7:14 am
and they also knew once they did that, the whole arab world would support their position. host: ok. david there in virginia. this is "the washington post" editorial from last night's debate. their headline -- what happens when a substantive debate breaks out? this more productive tone offers a bit of hope for the nation's future and gives america the vance to evaluate substance. --
7:15 am
it goes on from there. that was one of the editorials between senator vance and governor walz. you can comment on that. and also comment on recent events from the middle east with the missile strike. joe from d.c., democrats line. hi. caller: hi. good morning. prior to last night, i don't think i could have taken jd vance out of the lineup. i've never really heard his voice from listening to so much his rallies and campaign stops on c-span radio. you know, i've seen -- i watched the dnc and i really like him, but i hate to tell you as a democrat but i taught that jd vance did a great job. i thought he was very civil. he came off as very likable. i thought that the way that he answer the question about reproductive rights, you know, was very strategic.
7:16 am
it's a winning topic for democrats and it's a big losing topic for republicans. so i thought that the way that he came across and said republicans need to change their tone and change the way that they approach this topic. because it's one of those things that if you're never going to change anybody's mind about abortion. if you think it's murder, you're never going to not think it's murder. so i think the idea of kind of taking that out of the equation and saying that regardless of whether or not -- regardless of your moral stance on it, you know, you just need to focus more on families and make it easier for families to make it in america, you know, and not see an unwanted pregnancy as a death sentence. i was just like -- i was blown away by that to hear somebody
7:17 am
say than not that i think any of his policies were in line with the rhetoric. i just thought if the debate is about rhetoric, not about laying out of substantive policies, i thought his rhetoric on that topic was very aggressive. host: joe there in washington, d.c., commenting on last night's debate. available at the website and our app too if you want to see that. in new york state, independent line. next up, we'll hear from jeff. caller: thank you, pedro. i believe the nation should consider someone afflicted with narcissistic personality disorder be the president of the united states and should a superfan that latches on to him be the vice president of the united states? let me just expound a little bit on this and i believe tim walz messaged it somewhat. the following is an excerpt of
7:18 am
narcissistic personality disorder in march 1, 2024. narcissistic personality disorder is a complex psychologic condition that presents with a pervasive pattern for need of admiration and lack of empathy. host: how does that apply to last night's debate? caller: yes, i'm going to get to that in just a moment. give me a moment. so if we consider the dangerous nature of a relationship between narcissist and a sycophant, that is former president trump and vice presidential nominee jd vance. vance wrote that he goes back and forth between thinking of trump as a cynical a-hole like nixon who wouldn't be banned and even maybe useful or that he's america's hitler and mr. walz referenced that.
7:19 am
now, the definition of a sycophant is the important part. host: hold on. how does that all apply to last night? quickly, please. caller: just give me 30 seconds. the definition of a sycophant, let's consider that. someone who preys powerful and rich people in a way that is not sincere, usually in order to get some advantage from him. for example, the prime minister surrounded by sycophants. the visors of a sycophant who are never telling went to retire. this sort of thing. this is the danger we face. host: ok. that's jeff there in new york. pennsylvania, this is bonnie, republican line. good morning. caller: good morning. it was a wonderful, wonderful debate last night. and it shows that no matter what, we in this country are in deep, deep trouble. and if god forbid something
7:20 am
should happen to our president, without a doubt, that vice president being vance would be an honor to have this gentleman to who has a good head, who puts america first. if we, in this country, do not go back to where we were four years ago, we are not going to exist. i was fortunate enough to travel to the middle east in 1971 to all the middle eastern countries and it is a shame what's going on. .if trump were to be in the whie house today he would have taken out of the refineries and say no. with our administration is allowing to happen is horrible. i pray we can last until election and i pray that the country votes not the number one

issue of abortion, but the number one issue of peace in the world, the border, every policy that those two gentlemen truly set forth. it was a wonderful debate. host: ok. that's bonnie there in pennsylvania. cbs conducting their own snap survey of the debate results, at least those they surveyed afterward. this is from, you can still find it. this is a cbs poll when asked the question who won the vice presidential debate, 42% saying jd vance and 41% saying governor walz. when asked to describe the tone of the debate, 88% saying it was generally positive. 4% saying it was generally negative. when asked if the debate, if they sounded reasonable, 74% said that tim walz did, 65% said jd vance did. and as the debateound

extreme, 26% saying that of tim walz and 35% of jd vance. if needed, are they prepared to be president if for those who say that the candidates you saw last night were prepared, 60% said tim walz prepared to be president, 55% giving that to jd vance. 40% saying tim walz not prepared, 45% jd vance. more candidates there at -- cat stories from cbs poll. we're asking you to give your own survey and results of last night's debate as well. 202-748-8001 for republicans. 202-748-8000 for democrats. independents, 202-748-8002. you can talk about last night's debate, also the events in the middle east regarding iran's missile attack. you can put that in the course of conversation over the next two hours 40 minutes or so. let's hear from kenneth in

virginia, independent line. hi. caller: yes. thank you for c-span. thank you, pedro, for taking my call. i will just try to be brief. first of all, i'm an independent. i'm an african american. but mostly and foremost, i am a christian. now, the reason i bring that up is this. there was a man. his name is reverend dr. martin luther king jr. and i'm going to make the point. he said in a letter from birmingham jail that a just law is a man code, man made code that swears with the law of god. this is perhaps his quintessential statement. and anyone that could stand on stage and read the scripture as did tim walz briefly. he can speak to that but he will not speak about what god says
7:24 am
about murdering. he will not speak about what god said about the baby in the womb. he not speak to that issue the gentleman earlier talked about sycophants, to deny what he knows or she knows that is codified in scripture. it is god's cannon. so my point in saying is this. this is the quintessential issue. it is no difference than you were in 1840 and ask about slavery and someone else talked about we have to talk about xyz policy. this is the issue. i have a computer science degree. i understand business and technology. but i'm going to tell you this. i would not vote for a democrat as long as they have formerly taken the position that they are ok with murdering babies and that they want this to be federally protected. god gives his choices.
7:25 am
host: anita from north carolina. democrats line on either the debate or events in israel. anita, good morning. caller: ok. all right. walz. i'm not anti-republican or pro democrat. because i did vote for trump the first time and i voted democrat the second time. but last night, that governor from minnesota who does not come from the -- park as far as state. minnesota is very urban and very nice. and have a 10,000 lakes. he spoke of them being 20% freshwater. all of this stuff going on here and the hurricane and things, he can relate. he's from nebraska. also, any issue that vance would bring up, he would let him know from his experience as governor how he dealt with for everyone
7:26 am
involved in that state, ok? which i thought was an excellent thing and then for vance to say that donald trump is bringing back the common sense, you can't bring back common sense if you denied the truth. they are prohibiting books in public places where people can get ahold of and learn history of this country. and without the history of the country, people cannot make a common sense decision. i don't care how much money you have. as a matter of fact, you may have money based on the history and don't want to say how you got that money. so, i was very upset with him saying they were the common sense party. host: and of the events of to the middle east? caller: ok. right. i disagree of christians follow jesus and forgiveness and understanding that we all make mistakes or have sort coming just because we don't have perfect knowledge. if israel don't understand that
7:27 am
type of religion, then we're going to have a hard time getting them to conform to anything that we need from them because they are going to think that they can take in perfect decisions. host: ok. that's anita there in north carolina. here is a caller from the republican line from missouri. caller: i thought jd vance was perfect. he said three and a half years to do what kamala harris claiming what she wants to do to help the country. well, she's still got time. she's vice president. why don't she do it now? instead, she's not. and as far as israel goes, we
7:28 am
better stand with israel because if you read your bible, you'll find out israel is god's country and god's people. we're all god's people. but israel, the jews are god's people. i did like the debate last night. i thought it was great. vance was wonderful. tim walz i thought he was really fidgety. he couldn't standstill too well. and him talking about using the word fickle. host: ok. commenting on the events of last night's debate. you can continue to do the same. one of the things going into last flit's debate made by cbs
7:29 am
was the use of so-called hot mics during it. one of those things we came occupy the topic of immigration, both were used by the cbs moderators. it was a conversation that started with the question that senator vance issued about immigration policy and here's how that play out yesterday at the debate. >> most of this is about the president and the vice president empowering our law enforcement to say if you try to come across the border legally, you've got to stay in mexico. you've got to go back through proper channels. governor walz brought up the community of springfield and he's very worried about the things i said in springfield. in springfield, ohio, and in communities all across this country, you've got schools that are open mind. you've got hospitals that are open mind. you've got housing that is
7:30 am
totally unaffordable because we brought in millions of illegal immigrants to compete with americans for scarce homes the people that i'm most worried about are the american citizens who have had their lives destroyed by kamala harris's open border. and i agree with you. if you want to solve this problem but i don't think kamala harris does. >> governor, you have one minute to respond. >> yeah, it is law enforcement that asks for the bill they helped craft it. they're the ones that supported it. that's because we know we need to do this. this issue of continuing to bring this up, of not dealing with it, of blaming migrants for everything. on housing, we can talk about wall street speculators buying housing but it becomes a blame. this bill also gives the money necessary to adjudicate. i agree. it should not take seven years for an asylum claim to get done. then you start to make a
7:31 am
difference in this and you start to adhere in what we know. i don't talk about my faith a hot but matthew 25:40 talks about to the least amongst us, you do unto to me. that's true of most americans. they want order to it. this bill does it. it's funded. it's supported by the people who do it and it lets us keep our dignity about how we treat other people. >> thank you, governor. and just to clarify for our viewers, springfield, ohio, does have a large number of haitian migrant who is from legal status temporarily protected. thank you, senator. we have so much to get to. >> i think it's important -- >> talk about the economy. >> the rules were that -- >> the economy -- >> since you're fact-checking me, it's important to say what's actually going on. so there's an application called the cvp1 app and be granted legal status at the wave on thea

app if you want. in north carolina, democrats line. taylor, go ahead. caller: hi. good morning. yeah, i don't understand the people that don't stop and think for a second about why somebody would complain about fact-checking. well, maybe the guy complaining about fact-checking is complaining because he's trying to lie to you, period. a couple of other thoughts. yes, jd vance looked pretty slick last night but it's easy to look slick when you refuse to answer any questions and then lie about everything. like he lied and lied and lied. gave no solutions. and, i mean, frankly, people think he looks great because of how terrible donald trump looks. the debate last night was so great because we didn't have a senile maniac screaming at us.
7:34 am
host: independent line from maryland. you're next. caller: thank you. love c-span and "washington journal." wow. i just wrote some notes down from i guess the last seven callers on the line at the debate last night was more traditional than what we've seen. it's kind of what -- i'm 50 something years old. so it's what i've been used to as far as political debates go. jd vance was polished. got to give it to him. and tim walz looked a little -- i don't know, he looked a little disheveled in terms of -- not disheveled in appearance but he looked a little nervous. if you remember the nixon-kennedy debates, of course, nixon lost initially because of his sweating issue and the way he looks on camera.
7:35 am
so tim walz needs to work on that. as far as jews and israel being able to defend itself, the caller talked about israel being god's people. middle east needs an ally. the united states needs an ally in the united states and that is who israel is and that is why they're so important. there's another caller talked about narcissist and sick fans. i'm going back and forth in my best friend who is a trump supporter. i want the country to be balanced. i want the country to settle and degrees our issues using the -- address our issues using the full weight of the judicial system.
7:36 am
host: let's hear from christine from the republican line. caller: hello. i've been listening to the man calling in and i kind of protect myself by listening to pbs's reason why we have a vice president and that kind of prepared me and i was just astonished to see when nixon and the watergate thing came up how that -- the lor just intervened and a man who had never run for an office was the one that was chosen and then he -- things kept going on and then he ended up being one of our best presidents and a godly man and we had peace on that time he was in office. host: and how does that relate
7:37 am
to yesterday's debate? caller: well, that mr. vance, he still really denies that biden won the election. and so i think that things haven't changed. they haven't changed their mind about who won the election. and they don't really accept president biden as our president and they want to blame everything on the vice president which she has no presidential power. she can't go above biden. host: ok. caller: so it looks like -- it's going to be the lord that puts someone in and for better or for worse, we're just going to live with the results. host: ok. let's hear from charlie in minnesota, independent line. you are next. good morning. caller: yeah, hi, pedro.
7:38 am
how are we going today, pedro? host: it goes well. go ahead. caller: i'm from minnesota, of course, and i think tim walz did a horrible job. he looked very nervous. he had a stern face. i never got to see him smile on there. it's like he was a robot. as far as him putting tampons in the boys' bathroom, i think they're trying to push something that a lot of people don't want. host: what did you get from last night's debate? caller: huh? i'm sure glad vance is running. that's all i got to say. host: some of you commenting on the social media site from texting us this is from daunte in florida saying this debate seemed too cordial with both men being nice but when vance refused to say what won in 2020,
7:39 am
he there's no credibility. this is also paula from facebook saying jd fact-checking. i like walz. i am glad he's not fak like vance. walz is a ce guy who wants to serve the common good. if you want to post there, facebook.com/cspan. post on x as well at @cspanwj. and texting is available, too, 202-748-8003. it's how you do that. let's hear from alicia from arkansas, republican line. hi. caller: good morning. hi. thank you for taking my call. the debate last night, i thought was good. i thought vance did a great job. and the vice president debate is important because right now, we have harris as the vice president and we have an
7:40 am
inconfident joe biden that is incapable of leading and if he was going to do good as a -- she was going to be good as a president, she would have been leading and he is being confident. that's why we have vice presidents. host: talk about the candidates that could be -- one of them would be the next vice president watch. did you think about them specifically? caller: i thought vance was very knowledgeable. i thought he knows the law. the constitution. he's been to the military. he had risked his life for this country. he knows what it will be to put boots on the ground. i think he's familiar with foreign policy. i think he's a real person that came from the heartland of america and came up through hard times. so he knows how it is to do
7:41 am
without. and so i think he's more in touch with the real majority of american people. we got leaders up there that's made horrible decisions regarding all the problems that we're facing. you know, they can't deny that immigration is up 318%. the numbers may be down right this second but they're still flying them over in airplanes. and as far as israel's situation, now, i'm in my 50's. and a lot of people don't remember that i remember 1979 when they came in, iran took it over. and took bunch of hostages, american hostages. i remember how they got on that
7:42 am
plane and how they look like people have stretched thin over bones. because they knew that ronald reagan was going to put a stop to it. host: ok. let's hear from kathy in washington, d.c. democrats line on last night's debate or events in israel or with iran. good morning. go ahead. caller: good morning. i knew that jd vance would win on style. but i really think that walz won on substance. there were so many questions that jd vance didn't answer, that he dodged, that he kind of skated his way through. because i watched the rallies, i know who jd vance is as a person. so i think he's a chameleon. i think he changes for the moment. and he's very good at selling himself. i think what's missing is that people don't have basic knowledge of what a vice president -- what the role of the vice president is and what
7:43 am
role they have and what role they don't have. i think people don't understand the basic workings of how the economy works. if you want to know jd vance, you can actually go on a congressional website and see how he has voted. that's what i look at. i look at your record. i see how you vote. so you can't get on a debate and true to pretend to be something that you're not. there's so many things that he misspoke on such as his child care question was ridiculous. i think he's blaming the housing crisis on immigrants. people coming in to the country with nothing but the clothes on their back are not buying up the homes. the housing crisis, there are many reasons. you have investors who have bought up homes with cash kicked people out of the market regular everyday americans trying to be homes. there's a lot of things that affect the housing crisis.
7:44 am
so for that, people need to do more of their research. all in all in substance, i think walz won the debate. host: ok. maryland, let's hear from liz, independent line. caller: oh, my god. i will say that vance is a smooth operator. he's a smooth liar. he, you know, a little bit more laid back. he lied about everything he lied about obamacare. he lied claiming that he and trump supported that when we all know that trump tried his darndest to get rid of it he completely lied about trump making a peaceful transition after the election. complete lie. ok? we all know january 6 and then when it came down for him to leave out of the white house, he burst and delayed a couple of days and was not there to make a
7:45 am
female transition with biden. ok? he completely lied about abortion. he claimed that the way he talked last night that eh, you know, i feel so sorry for the death for the girl in georgia but in 2022, he said i want to ban abortion nationally. he did a very good job with that that's what narcissists do. they're smooth liars, gas lighters. all the things that we've been seeing for the last couple of years. and with kamala, come on, people. a vice president does not have a platform. they don't have a platform. but he lies to his followers and his followers eat it up like oh, kamala didn't do this and that. he's the most do something vice president i've ever seen. yes, he was smooth but walz came back with the personality we wanted to see and he asked him straight out. did you agree with the fact that
7:46 am
your president is not the president? and he wouldn't answer that. it was almost a little scary because you almost wonder, are they going to do this again if they should lose -- host: ok. that's liz. it was referenced last night. it was towards the end of the debate where the candidates talked about the events of january 6 and the legitimacy of the 2020 election. here's part of that exchange. >> clinton said the election was stolen. this has been going on for a long time and if we said we need to respect the results of the election, i'm on board. but if i want to say this is a problem that the republicans have had, i don't buy that. >> govern? >> january 6 was not facebook ads. look, i don't understand how we got to this point. but the issue was that happened.
7:47 am
and all of us say there's no place for this. it has massive repercussions. this idea that there's censorship to stop people from threatening to kill someone, that's not censorship. censorship is book banning. we've seen that brought up. i just think for everyone tonight -- and i'm going to ban senator vance. there's a lot of agreement. this is one that we are miles apart on. this was a threat to our democracy in a way that we had not seen. and it manifested itself because of donald trump's inability to say. he is still saying he didn't lose the election. did he lose the 2020 election? >> tim, i'm focused on the future. did kamala harris sensor americans from -- sense of urgencier americans from -- >> that is a damning non-answer. >> we've talked about it.
7:48 am
i'm happy to talk about it further. but you guys attack us for not believing in democracy, the most sack red right is the first amendment. you have said there's no first amendment right to misinformation. kamala harris wants to -- >> and big tech wants to silence people from speaking their mind. i would like democrats and republicans to both reject censorship. let's persuade one another let's argue about ideas and then let's come together afterwards. >> you can't yell fire in a crowded theater that's the task. >> firing at a crowded theater, you guys wanted to kick people off facebook saying a toddler -- >> that is criticizing the policies of the government which is the right of every american. >> the governor does have the floor for one minute to respond to you. >> what i do know is i see a candidate out there who refused
7:49 am
and now, again, and i'm pretty shocked by this he lost the election. this is not a debate. it's not anything anywhere other than in donald trump's world. because, look, when mike pence made that decision to certify that election, that's when mike pence isn't on the stage. what i'm concerned about is where is the firewall with donald trump? host: in last night see it all at c-span.org, our free video app, at c-span now, if you want to see it there. and you can talk about it during the course of our program today. republicans, 202-748-8001, democrats, 202-748-8000, and independents, 202-748-8002. henry in new york, democrats line. you're next up. caller: yeah, good morning. my name is henry and i'm from new york. one thing for sure. vance is smooth. he's a real smooth operator. so if you want to believe
7:50 am
everything he says. but he lacks character and he plaques morality -- lacks morality. walz might not be the best at his game at the moment but he said the moment that harris told him i am not a good debater. so he put that on the table. he at least admitted that he went through china and he made a mistake and he spoke out of line, right? ok. that's character. that's morality. you know? i would rather ride with harris and walz because i can trust them. does anybody say they trust trump and vance? and last night, i must have heard harris's name mentioned at least over 50-60 times. well, there's a news flash. vice president harris is not the current president. she has no power to make any
7:51 am
decisions regarding american policy. so america, please stop with the harris can do this for three and a half years and airs didn't so that for three and a half years. if anybody that can tell me what vice president pence did it, what bills he legitimated, i would like to know. because it has none. host: all right. let's hear from john from massachusetts. independent line. hi. caller: boy, there's a lot say but i'm going to go with this. back when covid would hit, people weren't traveling. migrants weren't coming up. and donald trump says that was his thing that he kept migrants out but it was covid. and then the housing thing. housing thing is mind-blowing. because he just blew covid so bad that everybody was dying in new york. massachusetts, new england got slaughtered with people that were paying $5,000, $6,000 for
7:52 am
an apartment in new york city and then moved to cape cod. they moved to vermont. they moved all over the place out there and just, i mean, it was crazy. houses that were $400,000 went for $900,000. host: how did that connect to last night's debate? caller: walz is saying that it was migrants that are taking over the highwaysing and that we don't have any housing because of migrants? i mean, these houses are worth $800,000 today and five years ago, they were worth $300,000. that has nothing to do with migrants. that's all i got to say. host: here is politico's assessment of last night about the candidates. neither of them bringing the good when it comes to yesterday. here's how they phrased it. saying tim walz and jd vance spent much of tuesday night defending their running mate's record. less successful for promoting their boss's plan for the
7:53 am
future. they spent the debate relitigating the last eight years. barring over the intricacies of -- that's the assessment of the last night's takeaway. you can see that and read more at politico.com. keith is in wisconsin. republican line. hi. caller: good morning, pedro and c-span world. it was very clear that tim walz is not ready for primetime. jd vance was not only commanding, he was presidential. and i look at -- i don't know why kamala harris picked tim walz because there is much better candidates that were available. and i find it laughable that when democrats don't like what something a republican says,
7:54 am
they call it lies. it's all predetermined. you know, that's all they say. and as far as the 2020 election, i can see why jd vance didn't answer the question because it was theft. using covid as an excuse. i know. i saw it happen in milwaukee. it was theft of 2020. i look forward to four years of president trump. thank you. have a great day. host: marcel in georgia. democrats line. you're next up. hello. caller: good morning, pedro. thank you for answering my call. i like to speak on the debate that happened last night. i truly think tim walz for what he said and how he handled have some -- last night and everything that tim walz said vance tried to june mine him -- undermine him. he was overtalking his commentators and everyone like that. he didn't give the commentators
7:55 am
a chance to go to tim walz and let him talk. he wanted to talk everybody. and i think tim walz did a good job and i don't know why people didn't feel tim walz did a good job. vance, he is so smooth he just a person like donald trump. and he want things to go his way just like trump did. that's why he didn't give walz a chance to talk. and the people over there in the -- with all this killing going on, i'm so happy that trump and biden stepped in and thrown the military shoot bombs and things over there. and thank you for letting me talk. amen. host: patricia in texas, republican line. hello. caller: ok. i got a bunch of points. joe was a puppet. he was senile from the beginning. and kamala has been pretty much running the show with the
7:56 am
radicals. and yes, tim walz gave some good remembrances, good things of he's done in the past, but his policies are going to destroy our freedoms and rights and they wanted to destroy our amendments and our supreme court because they're power mad. and that man, tim walz, i don't care how polite he was, he was stressed because he knew he was lying and the january 6 thing that people keep saying that trump did, trump didn't do that. it's beyond pelosi and certain others and -- well, they identified some black lives matter and an tiffa -- antifa which were the radical bunch. they staged january 6 and set up and then our vice president who
7:57 am
ratified -- i mean certified the election -- host: again, let's stick to last night specifically. what was the main takeaway from last night? caller: well, tim walz's policies don't have it for now have anything to do with any good decision he's made in the past. he showed what he is. he's a communist. host: ok. we'll go to jeff. jeff in oregon, independent line. hi. caller: hello. this is jeff, right? host: yeah, you're on. go ahead. caller: what i like to say is that donald trump is a narcissist, misogynist demagogue among other things. host: ok. how does that relate to last night's debate specifically? caller: well, we have allowed ignorant stupid people in our electorate that don't recognize all of these individuals. so they're not voting with their brains. they're voting with their
7:58 am
emotions. host: again, how does that relate to last night? caller: [laughter] well, use your brain. not your emotions. host: ok. teresa is next in new york. democrats line. hi. caller: hi. good morning. i hope you can hear me. thank you for taking my call. i have three points. last night, walz, we realize that vice president-to-be walz understands the give and take of real governance. and vance did not appear to have that same understanding. second point. the indicator of intelligence is when powers fail. walz was forced to think on his feet and being on stage like this probably made him nervous. it certainly would have made me nervous. final point.
7:59 am
a caller calls in and talked about immigrants taking jobs who i think walz also said something about immigrants taking our jobs. that is so old and it's really not relevant. we should be more concerned about how many foreigners u.s. tech companies are pouring overseas. think about that the next time you have that problem. thank you for taking my call. host: teresa there in new york, calling in about last night's debate for the program today. you have the option of commenting on last night's debate or if you want to comment on the events concerning iran and israel yesterday. you can comment briefly on both if you wish during the course of our time. and if you want to do that, 202-748-8001 for republicans, 202-748-8000 for democrats, and independents, 202-748-8002. if you want to do that, you can text us or post on social media too. cnn has the breakdown of the speaking times of the candidates from last night's debate. it was tim walz, governor walz
8:00 am
with 40 minutes and 42 seconds total. ohio senator jd vance, 38 minutes, 59 seconds. you have the opportunity to speak for the next two hours as you call in and comment on the debate and the events of the middle east. let's start off the second hour with terry. terry's in kentucky, independent line. good host: go ahead. caller: i just want to start out by saying that kind of took me by heart. i'm used to growing up having a mother with addiction and things like that. the world is covered with addiction and people don't believe in god and israel is god's plan. if something happens to israel, if they go to destroy his land, it doesn't matter which
8:01 am
president, which vice president we like. it is never going to be left up to us. yes, i am independent. i am 42 years old and i've never voted. the reason i've never voted is because i do not think it is left up to us and the american people can have crappy ways about one president or the other but in the end it is not really going to matter. host: republican, north carolina. caller: good morning. i think last night jd vance was awesome and when i was watching tim walz, he's too nervous and he was acting like he knows something. he was bad. and i don't want to see kamala get in because if she does, we are really in trouble. and also on the abortion thing, i believe that these women are saying it is my body, my decision.
8:02 am
no, it is not your body. your body is from god. he's giving it to you. it is his body and he has got the say and he don't want you killing babies. host: go ahead and finish your thought. caller: thank you. host: maine, democrat, roxanne. caller: good morning. yes, i did watch it. i was quite impressed with the debate. i found jd vance very suave. tim walz to be very factual, and concerning. something i will say regarding between the two candidates, tim walz has a sincerity. jd vance is donald trump's
8:03 am
lackey. very bully-ish. he does tell stories, has admitted that about springfield, ohio, which i was appalled by because that was not to ever have been said, never. my family, both sides of my family french and greek are immigrants that came into the united states. they weren't kicked out. how many immigrants have come into this country and produced? one thing i want to say because i am democrat, i am lenient and they have many republican friends and they are very staunch republicans. and let me tell you something. i can go either way. i just don't like the rhetoric, i don't like the accuse oles, i
8:04 am
don't like them pointing fingers. i don't like the bullying and who is better than who. we need to get policy in place. host: roxanne in maine giving her assessment. let's hear from west virginia, republican line. caller: thanks. about two or three weeks ago i tried to get on c-span and the whole show was basically for kamala harris. i was going to donate to your independent place, but not with the situation where you all sort of lean toward kamala the whole show. but here is what i'm going to say. the debate last night, shirley vance.
8:05 am
he's a smooth talker. i've been a christian for 50 some years. i voted democrat one time. the democratic party has turned their back on god. this country is like a household in the bible says a woman cannot be the head of the household. then nations will not respect her. post: how does that relate to last night's debate? caller: this nation is already divided. i think that both parties, the american people will wake up and say hey, sit down, get out of the way. trump, harris and tim walz, go away. let's get somebody else in there who is pretty decent to run this country. this country is going down.
8:06 am
you wouldn't believe the things that i've seen in my life. i'm a coalminer and it is not proper for this country to go the way it is going. host: those are his thoughts on the debate last night. you can do the same with the attack on iran -- on israel from iran. iran said it began limited ground incursions into lebanon, that was reporting as of this morning that jake sullivan, national security advisor gave next steps when it comes to the united states role in monitoring the events in the middle east. here's a portion of that from yesterday. >> obviously this is a significant escalation by iran, a significant event and it is equally significant that we were able to step up with israel and
8:07 am
create a situation in which no one was killed in this attack so far as we know at this time. we are now going to look at what the appropriate next steps are, secure american interests and then to promote stability to the maximum extent possible as we go forward. >> back then, the message was to take the win when they were able to intercept the barrage. is he recommending a response this time? >> i will not from this podium share the president's recommendation. he will have the opportunity to share. we will have ongoing consultations. it is too early for me to tell you anything publicly in terms of our assessment or in terms of what our expectations are. i can tell you that he is tracking this minute by minute. we are very much deeply in touch with the israelis and insofar as
8:08 am
we have cause to read down, we will make sure to read out here. >> after iran struck israel, the u.s. issued a number of sanctions. this morning the president said there will be severe consequences if iran carried out this attack. what are those consequences and are they more severe than sanctions? >> totally legitimate question and that answer will be based on the conversation then consultative we have with our israeli counterparts. but i can tell you is this. we are proud of the action that we've taken alongside israel to protect and defend israel. we've made clear they will be severe consequences for this attack and we will work with israel to make that the case. host: that pros conference, by the way, if you go to our website or the app. c-span records it and lets you take a look at it to know what information comes out of those press conferences.
8:09 am
if you are in jacksonville, florida,e says this, or she says this. as an independent, i was happy to see generally civil discourse. improving clarity of our choice of direction as a unified america. that text line, by the way, (202) 748-8003 if you want to make your thoughts known that way. judith in maryland, democrats line. caller: there was a question that was not asked in the debate. that question was why does our vice president not let the american people know that our president was not capable of holding office? that's why we have a vice president. sadly we have kamala harris running for president. she is scripted, everything she
8:10 am
says. unfortunately he identifies himself as a knucklehead. no, he is a liar. we need strong leadership in this country. we need someone to present themselves with confidence to the world. host: what options do you have, then? caller: i believe there are other options to run. there were no other option's given to the democratic party. this is the crown being passed from one person's administration to the next. that's not how our government should run. we should have had an election other than this general election to decide who would represent the democratic party. we were denied that. host: rick is in tennessee, good morning.
8:11 am
>> i'd like to say three quick things. i'm a staunch republican and a staunch christian. the guy who was a republican, god is not a respectful person's of women are just as respected by god as anyone else. whoever was not voting, i think the independent, she used the bible and talked about that. she enrolled because of several reasons. if you don't do anything, the faith don't mean anything. host: dui's the debate --the debate? caller: i thought that vance did better, tim walz was nervous, but he is kind of jittery all the time. i'm not complaining about the way he carries himself, that is his right. he was factual on some things, vance was factual.
8:12 am
it airee civil debate, i thought. the other thing was on social media this morning there was a lot of negative talk about vance's tide. for those who are opposed to that, october is breast cancer awareness month and pink is the color to wear. host: dominic in north carolina, independent line. caller: i have a quick thought on iran and then a quick thought on the debate. with iran, lebanon, israel and hezbollah, israel has the right to defend its territory. however, it is i think the responsibility of the united states to make sure that israel is not invading or hurting lebanon's sovereignty because they are using the united states weapons.
8:13 am
they have a right to make a limited incursion but we need to make sure it doesn't go any further. as for the debate, i actually was kind of hopeful. i saw a world without trump, i think trump has created so much vitriol and it was so nice to see a polite debate between vance and walz and it reminded me of romney and obama and i hope we have more of that in the future. host: what did you learn about either candidate, is there something new that you learned about either? host: i think that vance was much more reasonable than i had assumed from the kind of online rhetoric that i had seen and more willing to compromise and more willing to reach across the aisle. and i learned a little bit more about tim walz and his trip to china and i was glad that he admitted the context around that
8:14 am
and said that probably that he shouldn't have done that. and i thought that both candidates today great job. host: that is north carolina, independent line. he's talking about something that you can comment on, whether it be last nights debate, whether it is the events in iran. you can comment on both during our time together for the next hour and 45 minutes or so. one of those things the color of reference talking about, governor walz is trip to china. tiananmen square, he addressed that last night. here is that exchange. >> governor walz, you said you were in hong kong during the deadly tiananmen square protests in the spring of 1989. minnesota public radio and other media outlets are reporting that you actually didn't travel to asia until august of that year. can you explain that discrepancy? >> let me get at the top of
8:15 am
this. i grew up in small, rural nebraska, a town of 400. a town that you rode your bike with your buddies to the street lights come on and i'm proud of that. i joined the national guard at 17, worked on farms, and then i used the g.i. bill to become a teacher, a young teacher. i first your out and the opportunity in the summer to travel to china. 35 years ago to be able to do that. i came back home and then started a program to take young people there. we would take basketball teams, we would take baseball teams, dancers, and we would go back and forth to china. the issue is to try to learn. my community knows who i am. i will be the first to tell you, i have poured my heart into my community. i've tried to do the best i can, but i've not been perfect and i'm a knucklehead at times, but it has always been about that. those same people elected me to congress for 12 years and in congress i was one of the most
8:16 am
bipartisan people working on things like farm bill's that we got done, working on veterans benefits. and then the people of minnesota were able to elect me governor twice. so my commitment has been from the beginning to make sure that i am there for the people. to make sure that i get this right. i will say more than anything, i will talk a lot, i will get caught up in the rhetoric. but being there, the impact it made, the difference it made in my life, i learned a lot about china. i would make the case the donald trump should have come in one of those trips with us. i guarantee he wouldn't be praising xi jinping about covid and i guarantee you he wouldn't start a trade war that he ends up losing. this is about trying to understand the world. it's about trying to do the best you can for your community and it is putting yourself out there and letting fulton understand what it is. my commitment, whether it be through teaching which i was good at or whether it was being a good soldier or a good member of congress, those are the values that i think people care about.
8:17 am
>> governor, the question was can you explain the discrepancy? >> i got there that summer and misspoke on this. that's what i've said. so i was in hong kong and china during the democracy protests. and from that i learned a lot of what needed to be in governance. >> let's hear from bob in illinois. publican line. caller: your show is the most unbiased of all. i never spent three hours swaying one way or the other. i hope brian lamb joins us with early retirement. regarding israel, i think biden and harris, netanyahu, there is a cease-fire that will give them time to regroup and the war never end.
8:18 am
i wish the moderator would have called out the governor on him not calling out the national guard with his cities were burning down, and it is agreed we are already 4 million houses short in this country. and harris wants 3 million houses constructed by the end of her first administration. she would have to construct almost 2000 houses every day her whole administration and they can't even get done to hook up charges working. they haven't hooked up any rural houses to the internet. there's sometimes when i don't think she's going to be able to do that. and the hunter laptop would have swayed the election if they would have not cover that up. post: let's hear from joseph. joseph from florida, independent line. >> thank you for taking my call.
8:19 am
i'm a little confused. they're not going to change the democrats, what they are going to do. and i really believe that you probably should just have an independent line and listen to this going forward, because the only reason of sound is the independent. i'm not sure why we're spending so much time on the vice president debate because the real issue is the president. that's the people that are going to control what really goes on. the vice president, very little to do. mr. trump, and i just can't believe some of the things he's coming out with, these all can be fact checked. after 9/11, mr. trump said i now have the tallest building in new york city.
8:20 am
are you kidding me saying something that insensitive? or how about recently where he said he doesn't pay overtime to his staff, he just replaces them. or how about when he said let's blame the jewish people for losing the election. host: events in the middle east, go ahead. caller: good morning. thank you for taking my call. the debate was very clever in contrast to some of the other vitriol we had from the other side. but one of the things that folks need to listen to his they
8:21 am
constantly say the kamala administration. vance mentioned that quite a few times. it is not her administration. it is joe biden's administration which she is a part of. i've never had knowledge of a vice president's administration. just putting that out there. the structure of politics in america today is totally different from one side of the aisle to the other. you've got vitriol and hatred. discontent on one side. the other side is trying to create this atmosphere of harmony and togetherness. that is needed in governance today. going this way or going that way. if we just pulled together and work together, i don't think we would have the problems we are having.
8:22 am
the middle east has been at each other for centuries. centuries. we have alliances with allies that we are committed to. when the former president already expressed his desire to lie to nato and to align themselves with these alliances, with allies. we all know where that goes. host: deanna in kentucky, republican line. caller: yes, what do you want to discuss about the presidential debate? host: the debate or events in the middle east? caller: the debate last night. vance was favored, no doubt.
8:23 am
this is going to be -- we are going to fall into putin. however you want to say that funnyman's name. we are going to be there because this country needs a backbone. we need a man to lead our country. host: why do you think that jd vance with the better candidate last night? caller: tim walz lied. completely lied about his service. ok. first and foremost. he had no idea what to do. he has been thrown into the mix. he may be a nice guy. he's from minnesota, i hear they are very nice, but that's got nothing to do with his policies
8:24 am
or his liberal ways of thinking. the country was built on -- are you there? host: finish her. caller: i'm sorry. this country was built on our forefathers and we need to go back to that and realize what we need in this world. not our feelings hurt, not discussing all this roe v. wade. host: we believe that there. when you call in, you can comment on that, you can comment on the events in the middle east. you can comment on both if you wish. pick the line that best represents you.
8:25 am
republicans, (202) 748-8001. democrats, (202) 748-8000. all he ask is that if you have called in the last 30 days, hold off from doing so to give other people a chance to get through. also if you're waiting online, if you would mute or turn down your television so the interference doesn't happen with the delays in conversation. if you look at the pages of some of the valid ground papers and battleground states like pennsylvania, the pittsburgh post-gazette this morning, they take a look at both of the topics we are talking about. their headline focusing on the missile strikes from iran yesterday toward israel, and then in the center of the page there, vp candidates keep it simple as they lay out their vision for democracy. that the pittsburgh post-gazette in pennsylvania.
8:26 am
if you turn the page to the atlanta journal-constitution, if you look really at the top of the paper, there is a section about the vp candidates debate, and you can read news and analysis. the center page talks in the the events including the aftermath of hurricane helene, and then the detroit press out of michigan. nothing mentioned on the front page about the debate last night, but the sub lead saying about those iran missile attacks into israel. that's just a look at have as battleground newspapers are playing out the events of yesterday. south carolina, independent line, hello. >> i'm from greenville, south carolina, so we have basically no power. the reason i'm calling you is because clark, the west virginia
8:27 am
coalminer said that women shouldn't be in charge. he started quoting the bible. last time i checked you were born because women existed. let me tell you something, clark. women are the ones who make dinner, run the house, clean the house, take care of the families, cook lunch and dinner and many have jobs on top of all that. i'm not voting for kamala, let me just throw that out there, but it was insulting as a woman to hear and i'm not even one of those women, hear me roar. but it is not 1920, clark. as far as the debate goes, either will be go, it is not hopeful. you either hate trump. people vote because they hate trump. they either vote for him because they love him or against them because they hate him. i don't like harris. just to be clear. clark was way out of line. host: the president heading to
8:28 am
south carolina later today to survey damage done in those states. for events that come out of that . james in florida, democrats line. caller: i just want to point out the last been a lifelong democrat. i'm glad it was a civil discussion, i'm sure america needed. i know i needed it. probably trump had a bad rap on the debate he was in, but as far as last night, this tiananmen square issue. i think it makes a lot of sense. he's like my five-year-old kid
8:29 am
back in the day when i caught him in a lie. you could see the sweat rolling down his face. getting caught in a lie and the way you handle it, it tells a lot about a person and i think everybody in america should realize that. when you have the truth on your side, -- what you say. when you don't enjoy trying to just run with the punches, he should have just admitted it. i would have appreciated it. there's a lot of other things he probably could have owned up to here but did not and held back. i thought that was impressive. walls made some good issues. not soda with the primary elements, especially his wife
8:30 am
saying she opened the windows of. i think that's a little crazy. i'm voting for trump. i think mr. harris and walz are both liars. host: how are your neighbors dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane? ok, that is james in florida. a little bit about what i said about the president traveling, reuters reported that the president and the vice president will travel today to north carolina, south carolina and georgia to witness the devastation by hurricane helene. vice president harris will travel to georgia and north carolina in the coming days, and the trips come as former president trump was running against harrison falsely claimed that biden has been under onset the hurricanes destruction. so again, that expansion but
8:31 am
will happen as far as surveying the hurricane damage. andy in kentucky, republican line. caller: good morning. i'm going to hold my nose and vote for the republican because the democrats are just so bad. but anytime you receive stolen property, it is so ungodly. you can't steal stuff and give it to other people. that is why we are so evil and mean to each other. we all make ourselves proud. there is no other god before me. and i make myself a god when i vote to steal your money and give it to others. host: democrats line, hello.
8:32 am
michael in florida, hello. caller: yes, good morning. i'm calling regarding the issues and events in the middle east. i've been watching c-span. something i never hear anybody ask if palestine has the right to defend themselves. they always say israel has the right to defend themselves. but never palestine. it was refreshing to see a debate between the two candidates last night. that was good to see. i hope it continues. host: you will be able to see more after last night as they
8:33 am
head to the valid ground states to make the case for their respti top of the ticket nomine. vce this afternoon will be in michigan to speak in auburn ll michigan. you can see that on c-span or at c-span now and then online it c-span.org. governor wz aveling to pennsylvania. e same platforms is where you can see that event set to start around 4:30 this afternoon. the debate last night on the website and the app. to see more of the topics and issues that came out of this, in florida, diane. you are next. >> thank you for taking my call, i've been trying to figure out how to get what i want to say over to the world. when i look at tim walz, i look at another biden.
8:34 am
jd vance seems to be a very honest and christian man who cares about the family issues. as far as abortion, i can't really make a comment on that because i feel like that is every woman's life and she needs to make her own judgment by the bible. my grandson ted to go over there three times. he says one of the worst things he has ever seen in this life from the damage it has done to children, murder, and here we are putting these people up in motels. feeding them, clothing them, taking our social security money. when the storm was coming i was out of power for six days.
8:35 am
i have had no way to even contact an emergency situation. also the job situation, housing, we need to work for a housing, not handed out. get up off your budget, quit paying them money. host: north dakota, independent line, good morning. caller: morning. just a quick comment on the debate last night.
8:36 am
8:37 am
8:39 am
8:40 am
host: hears some of that exchange from last nights debate. >> in 2016 you call the donald trump unfit for the nation's highest office and you said he could be america's hitler. you said you regret those comments and you say you then voted for donald trump in 2020. but the washington post reported new messages last week in which you also disparaged his economic record whilst he was president. writing in 2020 "trump thoroughly fails to deliver his economic populism." you are now his running mate and you've shifted many of your policy is to align with his. if you become vice president, why should americans trust that you will give donald trump the
8:41 am
advice he needs to hear and not just the advice he needs to hear? >> i've always been open but i've also disagreed with the president. i was wrong about donald trump. i was wrong first of all because i believed some of the media stories that turned out to be dishonest fabrication's of his record but most of what we donald trump delivered to the american people. rising wages, rising take-home pay, the economy that works for normal americans, a secure southern border. a lot of things i didn't think he would be able to deliver on. when you screw up, when you get something wrong and you change your mind you ought to be honest with the american people about it. it's one of the reasons i've done so many interviews, because i think it's important to explain where i come down on the issues and what changed. you pointed out the messages from 2020. i've been extremely consistent but i think there were a lot of things we could have done better in the trump administration in the first round if congress was doing its job. i finish senator, i strongly
8:42 am
believe that congress is not just a high-class debating society, not just a forum to wind about problems. there were a lot of things on the border, on tariffs. things we could have done so much more if the republican congress and democrats in congress had been a little bit better about how they govern the country. they were so obsessed with impeaching donald trump they couldn't actually govern. i want to talk about this in particular. tim just accused there being a national sales tax. one thing, and you're probably surprised to hear me praising joe biden but the one thing he did as he continued some of the trump tariffs that protected american manufacturing jobs and it is the one issue, the most pro-worker part of the biden administration is the one issue were kamala harris has run away from joe biden's record. if you are trying to employ slave laborers in china at three dollars a day, you are going to do that and undercut the wages of american workers unless our
8:43 am
country stands up for itself and says you are not accessing our markets unless you are paying middle-class americans a fair wage. host: john in pennsylvania, republican line. events in the middle east. hello. caller: thank you for taking my call but more importantly thank you for having a forum like this where the average american can. in terms of the presidential election i will be voting for trump because i'm looking at the results of what the democrats have had over the past four years. i'm going to look at the results. i want an election that works the people instead of having billionaires who don't pay enough taxes. problem is they have too much influence in government. host: last night specifically, what did you think of it? caller: to be candid with you i've got to get up at 5:30 in
8:44 am
the morning and drive a school bus. i didn't watch the debate, i will probably watch it on youtube today although i am a fan of jd vance. i think he is an honorable person. i don't know too much about tim walz. host: let's go to texas, independent line. caller: hello, can you hear me? it's great that i got picked. jd vance, first of all, he lied a lot. tim walz was timid but that does not mean that he didn't know what was going on. as far as i'm concerned, he gave the best responses. and then also jd vance came out and spoke about the app. the cvc act was created under
8:45 am
donald trump. tim walz for first back on that yesterday but he didn't do that. i'm an independent, but i'm definitely voting democrat this time around. i do not believe that we should be supporting israel the way we are because right now we have a lot of this on our hands right now. that's all i have to say. host: republican line, kentucky. caller: yes, i'd just like to comment on two things. those ladies that called earlier and said tim walz wasn't a politician, i don't know where she's been the last 20 years. as far as the debate goes, it's like vance against the moderators and walz. the first thing, the rules of the debates, no fact checking. what do they do right at the
8:46 am
start, they fact-check vance and then when he tries to take up for himself, they cut his mic. i didn't see them cutting walz' mic or fact checking him. it's just like they did against trump. fact-check, fact-check. as far as harris, we don't care what she says because which she says has got to be the truth. that's all i've got to say. host: williamsburg, virginia, line for democrats. caller: so i'm 77 years old. i vote mainly democrat but a few times independent. host: so what did you think
8:47 am
about last nights debate? caller: i've got a lot to say. me and my family, my dad was in the marines in world war ii. he survive. strongman, very honorable. was a superintendent in new york city. he worked hard all his life. he was a longshoreman. host: i appreciate you sharing all that but how does that relate to the debate? caller: all tried to cut to it because i talk a lot. vance against walz. i think walz did better. i think --
8:48 am
host: why do you think governor walz did better? caller: i think he's honest. i think he's honest, i know where he came from and i know where donald trump came from. host: ok. kathy, independent line. go ahead. caller: good morning and thank god it was refreshing to see both candidates, uncle and nephew come to some time of agree it's -- agreeing. it did warm my heart. both sides really do want the same thing coming from a different perspective. i really think it would have been a little more fair with some of the questions that we, the american people have if we were in our competitor with some
8:49 am
republican commentators and democratic networks and democratic commentators. that said, what one party has to the other just for the american people to have both, the nato and the abraham accords, for example. just to give one example. also, no mandate on any humans whether it is a mother or it is a vaccine. i mean, we as americans just want to have a say and be treated as equals. in terms of the border, both parties are at fault. they need to really look deep into the cartels. host: that is kathy in florida calling in. she mentioned the border as one of the topics of the debate last
8:50 am
night. there was reporting in the new york times saying that the president yesterday monday expanded restrictions on the border that led to the dramatic drop in illegal crossings. it built on the restrictions mr. biden announced would flock the vast authority of asylum claims and allowed agents to turn people back quickly. the asylum band would lift only when the number of people trying to cross illegally each day dropped below 1500 for one week which is not happened yet. numbers stay down for 28 days straight. immigration consistently ranks top concern among voters and democrats are taking a far tougher line on the issue than in the past. ronald in maryland, republican line, go ahead. host: hello. go ahead. caller: thank you for taking my
8:51 am
call. i watched the debate. i was impressed to see a civilized date between both. what i'm trying to say is both candidates -- but i'm concerned that there topics that were not touched on during the debate. we have an issue on that note and we haven't heard anything about that. immigration is something that is very complex, so we should take
8:52 am
that with care. the issue is also complex and we shouldn't just say that israel has the right to defend itself, even though it does. so does palestine. israel in the bible is all of us. all around the world today. when you think about israel, everybody believes in jesus christ. i believe that israel have the right to defend itself, but how long?
8:53 am
host: that is ronald and marilyn. coming out of the pentagon, the operational aspects including the u.s. role at yesterday's briefing. here's a portion from yesterday. >> iran conducted a significant attack launching approximately 200 ballistic missiles targeting several locations in israel. we condemn these reckless attacks and we call on iran to halt any further attacks including through its proxy forces. the u.s. military coordinated closely with the israeli defense forces to defend israel. u.s. navy destroyers deployed to the middle east region supported the defense of israel by firing approximately a dozen interceptors against the incoming iranian missiles. initial reports indicate that israel was able to intercept the majority of incoming missiles and that there was minimal damage on the ground.
8:54 am
israel is in a better position to discuss. please note that we are still assessing the attack and the outcome, so numbers may change as we receive updates. no u.s. personnel were injured or harmed during the iranian missile attacks. secretary austin, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and u.s. central command are have been in constant contact president biden and vice president harris throughout the day to consult on the situation and u.s. actions. in addition to the phone call early this morning with the israeli ministry of defense prior to the iranian attack, secretary austin spoke to the minister began just a short while ago to get an update you reaffirmed the u.s. ironclad commitment to the defense of israel and underscore the u.s. remains well posture throughout the middle east region to protect u.s. forces and defend israel in the face of threats from iran and iran-backed terrorist organization. we will provide a read of that policy as soon as possible. to be crystal clear, should he
8:55 am
run, its partners or its proxies use this moment to target american personnel or interests in the region, the united states will take every necessary measures to defend our people. host: if you want to see that complete press conference at the pentagon yesterday, you can go to our website. cleveland, ohio, democrats line. caller: good morning. vance is a flip-flop or, he says whatever he things we want to hear. he flip-flopped on abortion, he flip-flopped on donald trump after calling him america's hitler. he says whatever he thinks he needs to say. and also he blames immigrants for all of america's problems. he blames kamala harris for all of the immigration problems,
8:56 am
even though america had a border bill introduced in the senate that would have increased security, would have provided more ways to detect fentanyl. but what did the republicans do? donald trump said till the bill. what in the republicans do? they killed the bill, so now he wants to blame kamala harris. and also, vice president harris is not the president. she does not have duties to pass a bill or she doesn't have executive powers. so she's not the president. so to blame her for what is happening during the is just not accurate. host: valerie, west virginia, republican line. caller: i watched the debate last night and i think it went great, but i want to talk to the people out there.
8:57 am
i lived in florida for 33 years and i lived in west virginia the other part of my life. and i've seen a lot and i went through a lot. i think the people need to just stop and put judging each other. i couldn't fight dirt on anybody if i dug deep enough. i feel that god is going to put who he needs to be in there. i believe everybody should quit judging everybody. i know when trump was in there, he looked pretty comfortable. not judging biden or nothing but since he has been in there, i've looked pretty hard. host: of the things you said, what did you get from the candidates?
8:58 am
caller: you listen to what they said, you vote for who was there for you, you vote for what was going on at the time when everything was going down. because i'm going to tell you something. it went great last night. i was very proud last night, it changed and made me feel good. it really did. but our country needs a leader. i didn't vote for trump because he was a politician, i voted because he was a businessman because our country, most mothers and fathers if it comes down to bread and water on the table, they are going to take care of their family first. our country comes first. israel, i think we need to stand up and fight for them. that is god's country. but as far as that debate, i think it went great on both
8:59 am
sides. we need to think what we were going through at time trunk within their and who is in there now. host: that is valerie's assessment of last nights debate. you can offer yours as well. the last hour of this program. we give you two options, you can comment on that debate which several have, you can comment on the events of iran and israel which several have. you can comment on both if you wish. if you want to give us a call, it is (202) 748-8001 for republicans. (202) 748-8000 free democrats. independents, (202) 748-8002. if you want to textus, (202) 748-8003. and facebook and x available as well. adrienne off of facebook
9:00 am
yesterday saying that governor walz was factual while showing kindnessdid a great job. i hope that this is our political future open forward. walls couldn't get his thoughts togeth netanyahu has every right to defeat its enemies-- adding trun november to save the country. those of the various ways you can reach us. if you want to make your comments but don't want to get on the phone to call us, facebook, x, and you can always text us your thoughts.
9:01 am
we start this last half-hour with nancy in massachusetts. good morning. caller: good morning. host: you are on, go ahead. caller: from last nights debate i was reconfirmed in my own mind, by virtue of what vance said and how he responded to the questions, especially when he was interrupted as he was fact checking the moderators. to me, the debate came across as 3-1, very disappointed. very disappointed in that. but i'm definitely a supporter of trump and that has not changed. host: karen joins us from new york state, republican line, good morning. caller: hi, good morning. thank you for taking my call. after listening last night -- i say listening because i don't
9:02 am
own a television by principle, i have a different perspective i think, i don't get distracted, i think, by all the watching. so, number one, i think that people were wishing these two were at the top of the ticket versus their counterparts. they come across so much more articulate, seem smarter, they don't have to be a spokesperson for their party. that being said, after listening i can say that vance definitely won, so on point, a lot of common sense behind him. i was looking forward to this debate. he was able to articulate the trump policies so much more than trump is. still, i support trump. it's just that vance is more presidential in that way. host: democrat line, denny's, south carolina. good morning. -- denise, south carolina.
9:03 am
caller: it was great to see both candidates acting professional. they did a great job. i'm going with vance -- i'm going with walz harris, of course. vance might do a good job as president if he got rid of donald trump, that's my opinion. as far as the immigration situation, i thought this country was built on immigrants. coming into this country, making a better life for themselves, turning their lives around for them and their families. i thought that this is what the country was built on. statue of liberty in new york, give me your poor, your tired, you're hungry, ok? we can't let everyone into the country illegally, but we could let everyone come in here and do what they need to to make a better life for themselves.
9:04 am
that's what i have to say. host: south carolina, that was denise. we will hear from carol -- kenneth, actually. kenneth, independent line, oregon, you are next up. caller: i have two complaints. these people running for government are neglecting to talk about the middle class, everyone with a household paying $80 a month for water. that's trillions of dollars a month. where is that money going? also, the middle class used to be able to go to a bank and draw interest off the money they are saving. now you only get .5%. how come nobody talks about that? host: carol, democrat line, missouri, you are next up. hello. caller: hi, i enjoyed the debate
9:05 am
last night. what i took away from it was vance has two personalities, good and bad. i'm a 73-year-old from missouri. my concern last night, i wish more had been brought up about trump's view on medicare. being a senior, that really helps us. all the things that he wants to, you know, take a part in our country, i just think it's terrible. just plain terrible. i hope that the elderly people will really stop and think about who they are voting for in this election. our health care, our educational departments really, really depend on it. thank you for taking my call. host: that was carol in
9:06 am
missouri. one of the topics last night between the candidates was abortion-rights in the united states. here's a part of the exchange that took place. [video clip] >> we have got to do a better job at winning back people's trust. so many young women would love to have families. so many see unplanned pregnancies is something that will destroy their livelihood in relationships. we have got to earn people's trust back. that is why we are committed to profamily policies, making fertility treatments more accessible, we have got to do a better job at that and that is what real leadership is. >> governor? >> i'm going to respond on the pro-abortion piece of that. no, we are not. we are pro-women. pro-freedom to make your own choice. we know what the implications are in not doing that. having miscarriages, not getting the care, physicians feeling like they might get prosecuted for providing the care.
9:07 am
as far as making sure that we are giving our children's options, minnesota is a state with one of the lowest teen pregnancy rates. we understand that. we know the options need to be available and we make it true. we are a top three state for the best place to raise children. these two things, to say that we are pro-children but don't like this or you guys are pro-abortion, that's not the case at all. we are pro-freedom for women to make their choices. we are going, kamala harris is making the chase -- making the case to make the options more affordable. we won't base it on the backs of making someone like amber drive 600 miles to get health care. >> let me respond to that, i agree with that, amber should still be alive, a lot of people should still be alive and i certainly wish she was. you are free to disagree with me on this and explain this to me, but as i read the minnesota law that you signed into law, the statute you signed, it says that
9:08 am
a doctor who presides over an abortion where the baby survives, the doctor is under no obligation to provide life-saving care to a baby who survives a botched late-term abortion. >> that is not true. >> that is fundamentally barbaric. that's why i used that word. some of what we have seen -- do you want to force catholic hospitals to perform abortions against their will? harris has supported suing catholic nuns to violate the freedom of conscience. we can be a diverse country to respect conscience and make the country more profamily. >> this is one where there is always something. this is a simple proposition. these are women's decisions to make about their health care. and of the physicians who know best. trying to distort the way that a law is written to make a point, that's not it at all. >> tell me what i was wrong about. >> that's not the way the law was written. i have given this advice on a
9:09 am
lot of things. it's been misread and was fact checked at the last debate. the point is if there is a continuation of these guys trying to tell women, trying to get involved, i use this line -- mind your own business. host: that topic of abortion was during the debate. trump himself commented on the topic on his truth social site, talking about the idea of a federal abortion ban, the first sentence of the post, "everyone knows i wouldn't support federal abortion bands." -- bans." the former president has pulled out of the 60 minutes interview scheduled to run next week. according to the cbs news division, the nominee and his political rival each agreed to sit down with interviews as part of the election special set to air monday at 8:00.
9:10 am
the ex-president was set to be interviewed by anchor scott pelley, harris was set to speak with bill whitaker. the network added that the trump campaign decided not to participate in that pelley would address this on monday, saying that the election special will broadcast the harris interview as planned, the network said, and that the original invitation to the -- to trump to be interviewed stands. that's the reporting, there. let's hear from david, pittsburgh, republican line. caller: yeah. the debate was very good. the debate that happened last night wasn't the debate that should have happened. when they pulled joe biden from the ticket, the constitution says we the people. we the people should have had a decision. democrats, independents, and republicans. they should have had a debate
9:11 am
with all the candidates who possibly would have had aspirations to be vice president. i'm sorry, in pennsylvania, josh shapiro would have whipped up on probably every one of them. the only thing i can say about kamala harris is that when you go back to when she was actually considered as vp, she didn't win iowa. she was the first one out. had no reason to be there. i believe, thank you for taking my call. host: ok, justin, massachusetts, thoughts on last nights debate? go ahead. caller: good morning. the debate last night, i thought it was better than the presidential debate. i thought walz got off to a rough start at the beginning, but slowly got on top of things. the topics were lively. i thought the banter back and
9:12 am
forth was good. a bit wishy-washy on answers, here and there, but one thing i really appreciated was when they grilled walz on his answers and wanted more direct answers. he would usually come back and say that this is it. when they brought up tiananmen square, he came back and said i misspoke. i really appreciate that he acknowledged that i have a direct answer, i have to give a political answer but here is my direct answer. vance, i appreciated how candid he was during the debate, comparatively, to some of his, his events that he puts out there. i did appreciate that. overall it's a proven record between the two of them. one of them, just not sure if i can really trust them. host: marcia is next. north carolina, hello. caller: good, thank you for taking my call. i'm going to read a few items
9:13 am
adopted for implementation by the next conservative president. i am saying this because vance made a statement about how the agenda, the republican agenda, is to protect the water, the soil, and the air. first of all, from this document, and it is the mandate for leadership policy recommendation, "eliminate capital investment in transportation projects. eliminate amtrak operating subsidies. eliminate capital investments for five years. host: and how does that relate to yesterday's debate specifically? caller: walz had opportunities to launch an attack on some of the statements that vance made. he didn't do it. it's very upsetting.
9:14 am
to me and for a lot of other people. because this is -- that is project 2025. it talks about the elimination of the epa that protects us, all citizens. this chart identifies all of the programs that were adopted to be implemented by the next conservative president. that is a quote. vance could possibly be the next conservative president, because trump is obviously declining in health and memory. host: project 2025 has been distanced from the president and his -- and members of his team. why do you think that is still something to be discussed? caller: it needs to be discussed because there are things trump
9:15 am
is already talking about, like the elimination of the department of education, which by the way is in this leadership policy recommendation program. it's a chart. it's 19 pages. if you could just read just of things that were adopted by this, by the next conservative president, you will be -- it's very upsetting. host: that was marcia in north carolina. florida, republican line, hello. caller: hello, how are you doing? host: well, thanks. caller: a couple of things. one, with the situation with walz, he kept referring to trump said this, trump said that. jd vance did not do that situation. one thing with that bill, i'm tired of hearing about the bill that trump called up the
9:16 am
congress and he's the one that put a stop on the bill. that is not true, ok? number one, number one, one of the items in the bill was 5000 to 8500 immigrants would still be entered into the country in that bill. that's 2 million in a year, almost. 10% of what's allowed in there now from supposedly 20 million coming in. the other thing is, with walz, he did not refrain from putting, putting, putting trump in there, ok? trump did this, trump did that. jd vance didn't do that with harris and she has done a lot of things that are very upsetting to our country. host: pointing you to this story from nbc regarding the senate immigration bill, bill killed by
9:17 am
republicans in a sign of trump strength and waning influence. you can read more therefore the context around the passage of that bill. tennessee, democratic line, anne, hello. caller: hello? i think that trump, he allowed 5000 refugees to come from central america, three countries in central america. he didn't stop them, he didn't deport them. he did not enforce the legal immigration policy to bring them into the country. he should have stopped at in his last year in office. host: how does that relate to last night, ma'am, how does it relate to last night's debate? caller: he's responsible for the
9:18 am
border. he lied about mexico. we never, ever needed to keep mexicans out of this country. -- needed a border wall to keep mexicans out of this country. we had a good relationship with mexico and mexico is not responsible for our broken immigration policy that has been broken for 20 to 30 years. host: ok. that was anne in tennessee. republican line, james, hello. caller: thanks for taking my call. as far as jd and tim, i just feel like it's like jd said, i'm glad i'm on this side, because it is a lot easier to get the job done. he knows that donald trump has four years of proven record. this other party here is just not doing their job on far as the drugs, the border, just the,
9:19 am
the abortion, you know? they know, they know that these, they've got lives, hearts, brains. it's like jd said, i'm glad i'm on this side. that's what i got out of it. he knows he can get the job done when he has got donald trump on his side. host: james there in mississippi. this is anthony from facebook, saying all of a sudden iran is a week ay om having nuclear weapons. i remember the same score -- scare tactic four years ago, eight years ago, every time we have an election, iran is about to blow up the world. billy from facebook saying the debate changed and no one's nd it did expose moderator bias. as far as responding to iran and hamas, they've been able to terrorize without paying a consequence, time to hit iran directly and fiercely. those are some of the comments
9:20 am
from facebook. add yours to the wit -- to the mix, if you wish. deborah, hello. deborah in maryland, hello? caller: hello? host: you are on, go ahead. caller: yes, yesterday i thought it was interesting to hear vance talk about what he referred to, the american heckler. i think it is so hypocritical to hear those things that he has now changed his mind and is supporting this man. also the fact that he and donald trump continue to pound on this thing about immigration. both of them are married to women who are the product of immigration. vance's wife is not an american born woman. if she is, her parents are indian. 2, 3 of trump's wives are immigrants?
9:21 am
their children, then, when he talks about the children, are the result of them being married to either immigrants or those who are the parents of immigrants. to me, it's such a hypocritical subject for them to bring up. why don't they address what's happening in their own homes, in their own families? that's a hypocrite. and it means that they stand up and they lie about immigrants, when they need to talk about homes. the other thing about abortion, it's about morals. the evangelical community wants to stand up and said the democrats are bad, abortion is bad. why don't you teach -- preach abstinence? the reason they won't is the majority of the congregants would then leave. you are talking about the product of something that has happened. you are looking at the symptoms.
9:22 am
the cause is that there is too much sexual immorality in the country, they won't hit that. host: all right. independent line, mike is next. hi. caller: hello, good morning. host: morning. caller: i wanted to speak on the immigration. that lady that just called, hypocritical, you know, i just think it has been politicized so much that people really doesn't know what's going on at the borders and the ramifications of it. host: how do you think the candidates did debating the issue last night? caller: i think the candidates, they are, they are, i think the moderators were flat. i didn't think the moderators were very good. the candidates, i think, to be honest with you, i think that vance came across a lot better, even though, you know, on his
9:23 am
simple question that he had in terms of -- did trump win? that's what i mean about the dishonesty. you can't even be honest about that. once compared trump to hepler. and he's still on the ticket for vice president? if he had said that about netanyahu, there's no way he would be on that television screen. you know, that's a foreign leader. as far as the war in iran, with iran and israel, it didn't start october 7. it started in the 1940's. people really need to go back, regardless of what side you're on, that's something, people want to be candid about it. brainwashing. it's like choosing between two gangs. you are talking about human beings.
9:24 am
either side, it's a horrible thing. you can't dehumanize people and then take a strong position. if you are pro-life, you are pro-life. host: tom is next, north carolina, republican line, good morning. caller: the previous callers talking about immigrants, the difference is jd vance and president trump's wives came here legally. legally. now, on the debate, tim walz was unprepared and he was unprepared because he hasn't done one single press conference. he didn't know anything about what he was talking about. you could look at his facial expressions and see that he was caught off guard. facing a question about hong kong, he never answered the question. they knew they had him in the lie.

anything we have seen. senator vance has said there is a problem with climate in the past. that -- trump call it a hoax and joke that it would make for more beachfront property to people -- for people to invest in. we have seen their investment. massive investments. the biggest in global history that we have seen since the inflation reduction act, creating jobs across the country and in jeffersonville, ohio, taking that ev technology and making it here. the my farmers no climate change is real. 500 year droughts and floods back to back, they are adapting and it has allowed them to tell me that i harvest "corn, soybean, and wind." we are producing more at any time and for losing more clean energy. for us the solution is to

continue to move forward. climate change is real. reducing impact is critical. this is not a false choice. you can do that at the same time we create jobs across the country. that is what this administration has done, becoming an energy superpower for the future, not just now. and then we think about how we mitigate these disasters. >> the governor mentioned president trump called climate change a hoax. do you agree? >> what the president has said, democrats, that harassing her leadership if they believed if climate change was serious, they would be doing more energy manufacturing in the u.s. and that is not what they are doing. clearly, harris herself doesn't believe her own rhetoric and if she did, she would agree with the trump energy policy. something that the governor said that is important to touch upon,

my call. i think they are a little turned upside down here, we have more fish to fry than what's going on with last night's debate. when this war started with hamas and israel, the administration was all off saying we don't want to just become a widespread war. i got news for them. the two teams are shooting their ships at sea. they are shooting their missiles at northern are israel. right now, iran and israel are on a tit-for-tat basis, ok? it could be consider that the war has expanded. number two, what's happening over there in the ukraine. the ukraine is shipping missiles to moscow for the first time.

they are not america first. because when walz was asked a question about i think the tiananmen square subject? he went into his harris bid. i was born. i was raised. middle-class family. this, this, this, this, this. when the commentator said you didn't answer the question and they repeated it, he said i did, i think i misspoke, that was it. now i have, i had to poke the bible upside my head because of osmosis, wondering what they missed. walz, the harris campaign, deceived. host: all right.
9:35 am
maryland, democratic line, good morning. caller: this is hank. i thought the debate was very civil. seemed like vance moderated quite a bit and didn't really espouse the extreme views of trump. he sort of tried to show that he was somewhat more on republican in general. i didn't think that he addressed climate change very well. went towards the democrats as well. as far as foreign policy goes, leaving it up to israel. i thought it was basically vance came out as professional and civil.
9:36 am
it did not change views as far as the political standing on those things. as far as immigration, he was able to skirt the tropes trump put out, the unfair characterization of the situation at the border. host: ok, we will hear from carolyn in pennsylvania. hi. caller: i have comments about the debates that focus on results. when vance said that we have got to drill, baby, drill, that is what exacerbated the problem. thousands of people from vermont to north carolina losing their homes from this terrible problem. it's about how we are going to
9:37 am
adapt. the results of the infrastructure improvement act have created good green jobs. two days ago scott mcfarland from cbs news pot -- asked trump if he had changed his views on climate change and he said no, not really. everything i want to talk about, immigration, i think that overall walz was authentic, authentic throughout the debate. whereas vance, you know, hospitals had to close in springfield, ohio, schools had to close their because of the hoax that was perpetrated by vance and now trump as well. again, i just hope that america really focuses on results rather than activities of chaos. host: in missouri, susan,

c-span all the time, please let me finish. i don't understand if the host of people isn't correcting people to call in and say things you know is not correct. it's a big part of the problem we have. that is why people say, when they are telling something, they don't have good information. i watched that debate last night. i thought jd vance, he show professionalism. at the same time, you know jd vance has been popping lies for a long time. walz, i don't even know what happened 30 years ago, 35 years ago. who cares? we have all grown from when we were younger. we have all lied about something. even if it was stealing a nickel when we were younger.
9:42 am
people shouldn't hold that against them. that's not a big deal. if he seems like a genuine person? at the same time, how can people called to say they will support trump when they know that they lied about the haitians, calling them whatever they called them. it's all wrong. you as the host should correct those things when people call in to say those things. you should correct it, because you know the problem we have in america now is because the majority of the beep -- people don't have good information when they call in and speak, they don't have accurate information. host: ok. we provide forums for people to make up their own minds when it comes to debate. we expect viewers of this program and others to be good consumers, to come up with their own conclusions when it comes to

have so many different languages? it's impossible. same way with the hospitals. it's just too much, especially that one little town where they dumped so many haitians there. the other thing is, if you go on youtube, most of these countries eat dog. there are many places in this world where they eat rats and everything else, that's also on youtube. maybe it didn't happen up there, but these people do have some weird voodoo, they will cut chickens. i lived in philadelphia for a long time. they did it. host: ok, ok. let's hear from las vegas. mark, democratic line. caller: good morning, pedro. boy, that one caller from massachusetts really demonstrates the erudite nature

of republicans quite well, let's put it that way. look, the debate last night was between someone who had a rhetorical background who can tell lies with a polished demeanor. it fools people into thinking that he has substance. there were a number of issues, of course, around what he said. many callers on the republican side who live thousands of miles from the border have never actually gone there, don't even understand that 2000 miles of that border runs through the middle of the rio grande river. you can't build a wall down there, you can't do those kinds of things. people are going to come across the border. what we needed was the bill that the republicans quashed at the behest of their cult leader, trump. that is something they need to face. they are the ones causing the issue with immigration. all that we need is popular -- proper money, proper

immigration, hiring the right people to make sure we can do the job properly down there. most of the people coming across the border are fleeing from countries where harris was asked and looked at the source of the issues, including climate change, causing a lot of them to flee because of the harsh conditions they were facing. now of course, republicans don't even want to understand the science of climate change. you can go back to the 19th century, newton's foot, a scientist, a woman, knows more, even from her grave, then republicans do about global warming. these people are disconnected from reality and they will never connect with reality, even though hurricane helene wiped out so many communities and more of these disasters are going to roll down year after year after year until people finally decide they have had enough of the

anxiety. unfortunately, we have a mental health crisis in this country that i think we need to get to the root cause of. i don't think it's the whole reason we have a bad gun violence problem but i do think it is a piece of it. another driver of the gun violence epidemic that doesn't earn as many headlines but is terrible it is in a lot of our big cities, we have to empower law enforcement to arrest bad guys, put them away, take gun offenders off the street. there's a whole host of things we can do, but in our schools we have got to talk about more security. host: pennsylvania, republican line, james, hello. caller: how's it going? host: goes well. go ahead. caller: he said harris is going to secure the border with a border bill in the senate? why ain't anybody talking about hr two, passed in december of 2020 three? that's the bill we need.

9:52 am
i thought our founding framers figure that out about 200 years ago as far as separation of church and state. you know, if you want a strong economy, i think you have got to trust american women, hopefully with their husband or partner or whatever. so often, american men let their women down. there are many lies before the baby is even in gestation. if nothing else, know that the average american woman who has an abortion already has a child and thinks -- why would you not want to keep that family? the reason is, the man in their life has already proven themselves to be incapable of, you know, manning up, so to speak, and raising that child. host: ok.

ok. helen, illinois, hello. caller: i want to reiterate that last night's debate was very civil. the moderators were much more fair then in the presidential debates. but i do want to point out that to all of the millennials out there, jd vance is 40 years old, he's a millennial. whereas tim walz is 60 years old, 20 years his senior, that jd vance, he conducted himself like he was the mature one, the adults. tim walz came off as emotional, not stable. jd vance, he is even killed. in fact, trump did a miraculous think -- he is even keeled.

caller: governor walz looked more practical, perhaps from being a governor and handling a state, he was able to look at the bigger. concerning the abortion issue, i think the republicans are not truthful. thank you. host: gary. gary, go ahead, west virginia. caller: it always amazes me with these young ladies who call in here who are well over 50, i can hear it in their voices, you know? they sit there and they listen to vance, like the young lady said, he's the future? no, he's not. he's just a good con artist who knows how to lie well. he sits there and says yeah, it was the ex-president that saved to the aca? he was the one trying to kill it and he still trying to kill it.
9:56 am
he's not going to give anybody anything. if you are over 50 and you can't afford it, all you got to do is watch medicare, medicaid, all of it go right out the window. that's how it's going to be. if you sit there and listen to every little lie that he spits out, you know, i've never heard -- and i've never been around -- i've been around a long time. i never heard of a border czar. everyone keeps referring to it. he keeps referring to harris -- no, harris isn't the president, harris is the vice president. she does not have the power to do anything except maybe suggest to the president and get it to the senate or the house to get something put up on the floor. i don't know where all this crazy stuff comes from. host: ok.

how you been? host: fine, thank you. caller: good, good. vance tried to look reasonable, at least in gop terms, he may have barely won the debate, but in the end i think he proved that he would just to be donald trump's a lap dog end. whereas walz, i think, could talk harris down for any dumb policy decisions she might be leaning towards. vance, vance is no mike pence. he does not have the integrity of a mike pence at all. so, those are my two cents at the moment. host: that was built in pennsylvania, finishing off two hours of calls. 86 of you calling in to give your comments on the vice presidential debate last night. you can still watch it on
