think walz won the debate. host: ok. maryland, let's hear from liz, independent line. caller: oh, my god. i will say that vance is a smooth operator. he's a smooth liar. he, you know, a little bit more laid back. he lied about everything he lied about obamacare. he lied claiming that he and trump supported that when we all know that trump tried his darndest to get rid of it he >> we take you live now to auburn hills, michigan, where republican vice presidential nominee jd vance is speaking at a campaign rally. live coverage on c-span. ♪

>> hello, michigan. well. it is great to be in the great state of michigan once again. it is great to be at an incredible manufacturing firm. it is great to be in a state i think will be pivotal to giving us 270 electoral votes and making donald trump the next president of the united states. [applause] it is hard to believe we've only got 33 days until the election. that's a good news, bad news situation because it means we have a limited amount of time to make our case to the american people that donald trump ought to be reelected president. the good news is only 33 more days for harris to gaslight the
2:33 pm
american people and that's a good thing. [applause] we of course had a debate last night, a vice presidential debate, i thought it went pretty well. [applause] [crowd chanting] it's funny because we did this debate and i talked to the president afterward and we talked a little bit about what actually happened and some of the points i made some of the points governor walz made. he made an observation, he said tim walz said he was friends with school shooters twice. that was something i didn't notice tim walz had said that on the debate stage and i said did he really say that, sir? he said i'm telling you, watch the clips, he said he was friends with school shooters twice. i said that was probably only the third or fourth dumbest
2:34 pm
comment tim walz made that night. [laughter] i've got to be honest, i feel a little bad for governor walz. the reason i feel bad for him is he has to defend the indefensible and that is the record of kamala harris. for the past eight weeks, harris, who never won a democrat primary vote, has gone around the country saying that she is on day one going to tackle the affordability crisis that is making it hard for you to afford groceries, housing and every thing else. she says on day one, we will make energy prices lower for american consumers. and she says on day one we will tackle the instability conflict all over the world. kamala harris, day one was 1400 days ago, what have you been doing the whole time? why don't you get to work instead of just talking about what you're going to do?
2:35 pm
what you actually do it? i'm running to be your next vice president of the united states and i'm incredibly honored to ask you for your vote and your hard work. but if we win, and i believe we are going to win and 33 days, i feel very confident about it -- [applause] but when we win, the american people will have given me an awesome responsibility to represent them on the world stage and advocate for donald trump's policies, to work with congress to get things done for the american people. i get sick of having a vice president of the united states for 3.5 years pretend she bears no responsibility for all of the policies that have made the country weaker, less prosperous and less secure. part of our responsibility and job the next 33 days is to remind michiganders and everyone
2:36 pm
else that kamala harris is at fault for the inflation explosion act, yes she as at fault for the explosion in federal spending that drove inflation through the roof. yes, kamala harris is responsible for the wide open border. kamala harris has been in power, she because the problem and we won't entrust her to solve the problem she created, we will trust donald trump with the presidency of the united states. [applause] let's talk a little bit about manufacturing because we have a lot of employees and family members who work with a great american aerospace company. donald trump and i believe one of the biggest mistakes our leaders made as they decided over 40 years that we didn't need to make our own stuff anymore. this company stands as a proud
2:37 pm
and stark contrast to that because right here you've got 350 american workers making great american products. we are proud of you, we will fight for you. [applause] my papaw was a steelworker, and the mill that employed him now only has about 2000 jobs and we are one of the lucky ones. a lot of the steel mills went out of business altogether. they did it because other countries use literal slave labor to undercut the wages of american workers and destroy our industry. donald trump, if we stand for anything, stand for an end to
2:38 pm
that practice. we will build more in america, manufacture more in america, make more in america, and to it with american workers and american prosperity in the process. that is our promise come on's solemn promise. [applause] here's the thing, this is a great aerospace company but we have a lot of other proud industries in the state of michigan and a lot of proud industries not thriving thanks to harris's policies. where did we go in this country where you've got kamala harris, who wants to tax working people so rich people -- she wants to subsidize rich people to buy electric vehicles made in china. is that a good idea? [booing] my papaw was a steelworker and he was a little gruff from time
2:39 pm
to come, but he had a word for these policies, where we will tax american workers and send jobs overseas, one word and that was bullshit. doesn't make an ounce of sense. is not just american workers and michigan workers in particular. we have the proudest auto industry in the world built in the state of michigan and as a buckeye that is hard for me to admit, how good michigan workers are at making automobiles. why are we trying to tell americans they've got to drive electric vehicles made in china? when we send the message, this is america, drive what you want to because we believe in freedom and choice in the united states of america? [applause] if we pursue those policies and say yes, you want to drive an electric vehicle, by all means, but if you want to drive a michigan built, gas powered car,
2:40 pm
that is your right, and we will support your choice to do whatever you want to do and we will build prosperity for michigan workers in the process. thanks to kamala harris's policies, this is a person who loves to pretend she stands with american workers, but nobody stood as strongly or proudly with american workers as donald j. trump, he did it for four years and he will do it again. [applause] just in the last few years under harris's leadership, i want to read this to make sure i got my facts right, stolantis announced they were going to lay off 1500 workers that make the ram. that is a great american automobile and those jobs will get destroyed and either replaced with factory jobs in mexico or completely eliminated altogether because harris doesn't want to empower americans buy michigan made
2:41 pm
automobiles. last year she let go 1300 michigan workers at two separate facilities and ford is currently rolling back ev production because a lot of americans don't want to buy ev's. why are we doing this to our workers and our own industry and our own country? kamala harris has decided she will pursue policy that make her green scam donors rich and she will impoverish generation of michigan autoworkers. i say hell no, let's empower and enrich michigan autoworkers with the leadership of donald trump. [applause] this is not just about -- 2500 jobs, my friends, that's not just a number. that's 2500 american families that have a family supporting
2:42 pm
wage and that disappears thanks to harris's policies. 2500 moms and dads that will have financial stress they didn't have before because of harris's policies. 2500 families that will be worried about putting food on the table or paying a heating bill because we know it gets pretty cold up here in the middle of a michigan winter. that is 2500 families made to suffer not because of an act of god or something that happened accidentally, but because our own leadership failed to do its job. if this election is about anything, it's about getting back at some commonsense economic principles that put american citizens, american workers and american consumers first and that's what we will do. every single day, that's why we exist, to serve you, not just for your job like kamala harris. of course, remember, the promise
2:43 pm
that was made -- tim walz made this argument last night. one of the things that annoy the hell out of me is he said, look, here is this economist who said that donald trump's plans will lead to higher inflation. first of all, donald trump was already president for four years, we got rising pay and lower inflation so i don't think the economist the what they are talking about. even if you ignore the evidence of what donald trump did in office, what these economists are saying is if we shift our entire gestural base to countries like china, it will make american workers richer somehow, will make our goods cheaper somehow. we've been living through the inflation of the last 3.5 years and we know that when we make our country less self-reliant, when we pursue the policies harris says we ought to pursue, it makes americans poorer, drives up the cost of food and
2:44 pm
housing, and makes our nation more depended on people to make the critical stuff we need. we need to get rid of that and listen to common sense in this country. [applause] think about this. here is the deal. tim walz have the audacity and kamala harris has the audacity to say if donald trump's policies are enacted, that will lead to higher prices for american consumers. tim, we ran this experiment once, donald trump's economic policies work for american families and american consumers. think about this, if a chinese company wants to hire a literal slave labor making four dollars per day and they want to import the good, it will make americans poorer.
2:45 pm
because we should not expect american middle-class workers to work for a slave wage in china, we expect them to support a family on those wages and that's what we will fight for every day. here's what you've got to do to prevent those companies and countries from undercutting the wages of american workers. you got to be willing to impose tariffs. fight back against theft of the american middle-class, penalize companies that are shipping jobs overseas and give tax cuts to american workers. that's how you build prosperity for this country and that's what we will fight for. [applause] let's just recap what harris's policies have actually done. the average michigan family is spending over $1000 per month to pay for what they could have bought 3.5 years ago. $1200 a year, a hidden tax just to be able to buy what you could
2:46 pm
have bought 3.5 years ago. that is not pro-working people. harris is part of it administration that is seen housing go up 3.5%. the cost of eggs has gone up more than double. a gallon of milk is now about four dollars in the state of michigan. groceries are up 25%. kamala harris's leadership has been tried and found wanting and americans we want to get back to common sense. we want to be able to afford a nice living, a nice house for our families and to do that we've got to elect the common sense leadership of donald j. trump and that's what everybody in this room is going to do. [applause] now i'm going to talk about something else. you know credit card delinquencies are about 9% right
2:47 pm
now. that means a lot of american families are sacrificing and not being credit card debt so they can afford groceries or their mortgage. what a disgrace and what a sad commentary it is on harris's economic policies that you've got hard-working people doing everything they can to provide for their families and they have fallen further behind, not because they're not doing their job because harris isn't doing hers. you are right, harris doesn't care about this because she doesn't understand -- she doesn't talk to anybody. she is afraid of interviews so she doesn't talk to people and she doesn't realize economic policies are making it harder on american families. you all know my story, i talked about it a little bit last night, but i was raised by her grandmother who sometimes would refuse to turn on the heating at night when times got especially tough. i was raised by a woman who was some guys -- who would sometimes
2:48 pm
forgo paying for her own medicine to put food on the table for our family. i remember that even though money was tight, thanks to my grandmother i never liked for anything, and american grand parents and parent should not have to make those sacrifices. if you work hard and pay -- you should be able to afford a living that's what we will fight for. [applause] we are going to take some questions but i want to talk about one more issue. the american media and especially kamala harris and tim walz, they don't want to talk about how this illegal immigration crisis is a theft of the american dream from american citizens. we see this in small communities and big cities all over our country. when you let in 25 million
2:49 pm
people, that stresses the municipal budget. a lot of cities and towns can't afford to provide for their own citizens because they're focused on providing for people who shouldn't be here. hospital wait times, because illegal aliens use emergency rooms primarily, hospital wait times have gone up in michigan close to three hours for american citizens that want to go to hospital and see a doctor. we've got so many problems. housing. when you let in 25 billion illegal aliens and they compete with americans for scarce homes, that drives up the cost of housing and that is a major cost of the housing crisis. i had a debate moderator fact-check me, what is your evidence that illegal immigration promotes and increases housing cost increase? i set first of all, common sense. when you let in millions of people who shouldn't be here, you've got to house them somewhere, and those are houses that should go to american citizens.
2:50 pm
donald trump and i will fight for that everyday. american homes for american people. [applause] but, to talk about tim walz's economist he loves to site, our own federal reserve has commissioned a study that shows that when you let in a lot of illegal aliens it is jack's up the price of housing. how about this simple principle? harris wants to give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens -- she does. she wants to bankrupt medicare by giving medicare to illegal aliens. do we want that? she wants to bankrupt social security giving social security to illegal aliens. do we want that? here's the donald trump plan and message to illegal aliens in this country. in six months, pack your bags because you are going home. that's what we are going to do. [applause]
2:51 pm
you heard this a little last night, a lot of talk about compassion when the issue of immigration comes up. i'm the father of three beautiful young kids, i don't think it's an passionate to empower and -- empower mexican drug cartels to engage in trafficking on the border. i don't think it's compassionate to flood american cities and towns with fentanyl. i don't believe it's compassionate to allow our southern border to become a drug trafficking and business zone for some of the most evil and terrible people in the world. you know what's compassionate? closing the border down and putting the interests of american citizens first and that's what we will do. [applause] these guys love to talk about threats to democracy. donald trump will remind you he
2:52 pm
took a bullet for democracy so i don't think any person can accuse the guy of doing anything other than fight every day to make this country more prosperous and the world more peaceful. when the media talks about threats to democracy -- you know what a threat to democracy is? when you have kamala harris running for president despite not earning a single vote from democratic primary voters, that's a threat to democracy. [applause] you know what else is a threat to democracy? when big tech firms and major american companies and big governments censor american citizens and deprive them of their voice in the town square. that's a way bigger threat to democracy than anything else going on and we will stop it right away. [applause] i genuinely think this is one very big difference between harris and trump. i disagree with harris, i
2:53 pm
disagree with governor walz, i disagree with a lot of the folks who support them but i would die fighting for their rights to speak their mind even if i disagree with them. i think every person in this room believes that because we believe in free speech. [applause] as a person who was raised by a couple of working-class, blue-collar democrats, i want to say to every democrat who is watching at home, every democrat in this room, you are more than welcome in donald trump's republican party, we are the party of common sense. we have a big tent and you are welcome in our movement. [applause] with you agree or disagree with us about tax policy or regulatory policy, i think a lot of americans are saying they are sick of censorship, sick of being told what to think and say, they are sick of being told
2:54 pm
they are not allowed to be friends with people they disagree with politically, and sick and tired of being told by their government to shut up. we believe in the first amendment in this country. you have every right to petition your government and tell them they are screwed up and that is exactly what harris is doing. [applause] that is why bobby kennedy endorsed donald trump, white tulsi gabbard endorsed donald trump. we believe in persuading fellow americans and that's a big difference between trump and harris. governor walz mentioned yesterday, he talked about you count -- cannot shout fire in a crowded theater. that line is from a disgraced supreme court opinion. we believe the solution to bad ideas is to debate them and persuade our fellow americans. kamala harris believes the
2:55 pm
solution to things she disagrees with his to silence you and shut you up. it is disgraceful, anti-american, and we will not stand for it in donald trump's political movement. [applause] i'm going to take some questions from the media and i have to remind you that we have to look through harris's lies. she talks about all of her great plans, some sheet straight up copied from donald trump. you went to his website and copy and pasted it. she's going to put on a red maga hat next thing you know. if you got these great ideas, i've got an idea for you, want you do them right now because you're vice president? [applause]
2:56 pm
the sitting vice president cannot say on day one we will tackle the affordability crisis. day one was 1400 days ago in your policies cost the affordability crisis. she can't say on day one we will make the borders more secure because she's been the borders are for years, telling americans the border is secure. she ought to do something about it now instead of lying and gas lighting the american people. she talks about restoring american leadership to the world and bringing back peace and stability to the world that has turned to chaos and when she says that, i say kamala, i have a really good idea for how we can bring peace and stability back to the world, vote for donald j. trump and bring him back to the oval office. [applause]
2:57 pm
to all of you who are here and all of you watching or will see some clips later on, i want to tell you, we have the greatest country in the history of the world. flying in here, as a buckeye it is hard to admit, you have one of the most beautiful states in the entire united states of america, especially this time of year. i love being in michigan. [applause] we've got the best natural resources, the best people, the best workers, the best history anywhere in the world. i know a lot of people feel like the american dream is out of reach, i know a lot of people feel it has gotten way too expensive to afford food and energy. it has gotten way too expensive to pay the rent. i want to tell you, please, do not give up on this country. as broken as the leadership of this nation is, it's going to
2:58 pm
change in 33 days but only if we get out there and work for it. [applause] to every american out there, we will bring back the american dream, we will ring back affordable groceries, we will make housing and rent possible to afford for normal american citizens. we will cut the border crept out and close down the border. we will bring the american dream back but only if donald j. trump is back in the white house. we've got 33 days, let's make it happen, let's fight for, let's work for it and we will make in the next president. [applause] let's take a few questions from the reporters. i always like to start with local reporters first and then we will do the national folks if we have time. . afterward >> first of all, congratulations on last night's debate.
2:59 pm
i did get a chance to speak with voters here before you stepped on stage. they said they loved how the debate was civil and policy focused. i also got an opportunity to speak to voters outside of the event and i have a question from robert from pontiac. it's a two part question. issues where americans are divided, if elected as the next vice president, how will you bring folks together, especially from the other party? and if there is an issue you disagree with donald trump, how will you make your voice heard for the people? >> my message to robert on the first question is i think the reason this country feel so divided is because of failed leadership and nothing else. look, i genuinely believe this. with a lot of folks who will vote against me and donald
3:00 pm
trump, there are a lot of people that are fundamentally good human beings but the leadership of the democratic party, kamala harris is an absolute disgrace. why do we have so much division and why do we have so much rancor in our political debate? it's because harris and her allies are trying to silence the american people rather than engage with them. when you try to censor your fellow citizens, when you try to shut them up, you -- donald trump and i will bring this country back together by encouraging the free exchange of ideas and the idea that leaders should persuade their fellow citizens, not try to shut them up, which is what kamala harris wants to do. open up dialogue and debate and that is how you bring american citizens back together during these divided times. [applause]
3:01 pm
on the second question about what do you do would you disagree with donald trump? first of all, donald trump is at the top of the republican ticket, he will be the next president of the united states. i have two responsibilities. the first is to support the president enacting an agenda i believe will lead to rising take-home pay and lower inflation. that is number 1. if i disagree with the president it is my responsibility to talk to him about it and offer honest counsel in private. one thing i love about donald trump is he takes advice and feedback from everybody. [applause] it is funny, the only conversation he and i ever had about whether i might become his vice presidential nominee was the saturday before the convention. it was the saturday where he was
3:02 pm
shot in bucks county, pennsylvania. i saw him in florida and he flew to pennsylvania where an assassin nearly took his life. the president said he talked to everybody about who his vice presidential nominee should be. he is willing to take feedback. of course he makes the final decision but he is willing to take input from everybody. he said he was talking to the mar-a-lago gardener about who the nominee should be. i said what the hell did the mar-a-lago gardner say? this affects my life. one of the great things about his leadership style is he is in charge but he makes decisions after getting as much information as possible and that is how the country should be led. it raises an important question, robert, and the journalist asking this question -- what the
3:03 pm
people in d.c. say about kamala harris, also republicans, they said this in private, they will say kamala harris is very insecure. she does not like to be challenged. if you do not like to be challenged or engage in open debate, you should be nowhere near the oval office of the united states of america. [applause] next question. >> thank you, charlie from fox news. i talked to a lot of people. they also said you were very cordial last night in the debate. the message got through. compare your style to donald trump's style, where he was a little aggressive. do you think donald trump's message sometimes is lost
3:04 pm
because of his aggressive style? sen. vance: you know, charlie, look -- i think, first of all, there is a media caricature out there of donald trump that is so different from the man i have come to know. when he called me last night, did you know what he said? he asked me how my wife was doing. i said -- he said you had a hell of the debate, i'm sure you were nervous but do have a nice meal with your wife and enjoy it. that is the donald trump i know. [applause] the other thing i love about donald trump and i think it is true of all of us -- we can be so devoted to and so grateful to this country and its incredible opportunities but also be pissed off the leadership is failing this great nation. you can say on one hand we have
3:05 pm
the greatest country in the world and on the other hand kamala harris is doing everything she can to screw it up. i love donald trump you do both of those things at the same time. he can talk to the american people and be warm and engaged. he can talk to a normal american citizen about their struggles paying for groceries and housing under kamala harris' policies and then go on a debate stage until kamala harris she should stop screwing up and stop talking about solving the country's problems and go do it. that is the kind of president we need and the kind of leader we need. [applause] next question. >> craig from "the detroit news." if you were talking about your opposition to mandates. do you think the government should have any role in incentivizing providing
3:06 pm
financial assistance to electrical vehicle plants. michigan is poised to benefit from some of these investments. will you allow those to go forward or will you try to interfere with those? thank you. sen. vance: i think there is certainly a role in encouraging innovation. there is a difference between promoting innovation and sending billions of dollars to favored industries that make their products in china. these are two different things. [applause] the problem with a lot of these ev mandates is this money was supposed to go to american workers what kamala harris' irs found in every way possible to allow that ev subsidy to go to manufacturers in china and not the united states of america. here is the other problem -- it is not just auto jobs we are worried about. think about the people who make
3:07 pm
carburetors, transmissions. there is an entire supply chain that china dominates when it comes to ev and america dominates when it comes to gas powered cars. before we subsidize the ev industry let's open up the american supply chain so american workers and consumers benefit. all of the minerals, all of the rare earth material, a lot of the battery technology, a lot of the supply for these electric vehicles is made in china. on the one hand kamala harris wants to make it harder to build that supply chain in the united states of america and with the other hand she wants to send money to an industry built in china. it is disgraceful and we have to stop doing it. invested american workers, not chinese workers and chinese firms. [applause]
3:08 pm
we unfortunately have to go to our next stop in the great state of michigan so i will take one more question and offer a final observation. >> hi, senator. will jones from local 4. i spoke to election officials about their concern about people trying to undermine our election. why did you not answer the question last night during the debate about who won the 2020 presidential election? sen. vance: the media is obsessed with talking about the election from four years ago and i am focused on the election 33 days from now because i want to get back to common sense economic policy. [applause] but i also think you can believe america needs to have secure and free elections but also talk about the fact that just a couple weeks ago democrats in
3:09 pm
the u.s. congress a piece of legislation that would have insured legal aliens -- illegal aliens do. not vote in elections if you believe in our democracy and constitutional republic you should try to strengthen election integrity and not wicked it. we will talk about election integrity because i think every vote should tout but only the legally cast votes and that is why we fight for election integrity and why we care so much about it. this leads me into my next point. democrats, whether they agree with what donald trump and i say about some criticisms we have, for example, i think we make it way too easy for people to fraudulently vote in this country. i think we should have passed the save act that would ensure illegal aliens do not vote and apparently kamala harris
3:10 pm
disagrees because she thought that every step of the way -- she fought that every step of the way. common sense voter id, it gives the american people confidence in the most important thing we do when it comes to our government, which is voting. i want every american to have confidence. all of you listening, i believe we will have the safest and most secure election in 2024 that we have had because the rnc is fighting for election integrity in a way it frankly was not four years ago. [applause] i encourage folks to get out and vote. this brings me to swampth evote.com. go to swampthevote.com. check your registration, check your polling location. it will tell you how to vote and how to volunteer.
3:11 pm
one thing we are trying to ensure common sense integrity is to promote more poll watchers. we have more in the republican party today than we did four years ago. if you are interested in helping us out and make sure every legally cast ballot counts, go to swamp the vote. we believe in election integrity. . it only happens if all of us fight for it. i have to be honest with you, i think we are in better shape in 2024 than we have been in a long time. we have done a lot to make our elections more secure. we have to get out there and vote. never give into despair that your voice does not matter. you can vote early, you can vote by mail, vote on election day. i do not love that we have election season instead of election day but it is what we is -- but it is what it is and we have to play by the rules.
3:12 pm
if we play by those rules over the next 33 days, we will win, we will send donald trump back to the white house and save the american dream for all of our citizens. [applause] let me say one final thing. i want to point out a couple people that i did not mention. first of all, you have a great republican chair in the state of michigan, pete, please say hello. [applause] we have an old friend of mine from before either of us were involved in politics. john james. i know he is around here somewhere. [applause] john has a beautiful family and he has been a great advocate for the state of michigan. i hope you reelect him and i believe that you will. this is a final thing before we have to hit the road. i have learned over the last eight weeks more about this
3:13 pm
country than i could have hoped to learn. i mentioned this last night. the thing that affected me the most was all of the people who come up to me -- some of them are struggling to put food on the table and they have the generosity and spirit to ask me how i am doing or tell me they are praying for my wife and kids. it makes me realize we have the greatest country in the world. i do not want to ever get so frustrated with our leadership that we forget we have the best people, the best jobs, the best workers, the best natural resources. the only thing i believe is broken about this country is the failed generation of leadership of people like kamala harris. you have not just an important opportunity -- we all have an important responsibility to return the people's government back to the american people, to have a president who puts the
3:14 pm
interest of american citizens first, to close the border, bring down the cost of groceries, make housing more affordable and make sure the american people have a government that serves and fights for them. 33 days, let's get to work and make it happen. god bless you all, thanks for having me. ♪ [captions copyright national cable satellite corp. 2024] [captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] >> during last night's debate senator vance and minnesota governor tim walz address the situation in the middle east, commenting on iran's airstrike against tel aviv. president biden's --
