underway into dozen states and more than two dozen others will begin casting ballots over the next two weeks. that is axios. if you go to nbc, they have hired an outside firm to calculate how many people have already participated in early voting and this is what they are shown so far when it comes to mail in and early in person votes that are cast nationally. this is by party registration. 13 million plus, almost 14 million mail in an early person votes cast. 47% of those saying they are registered democrats. 36% of those saying republicans and then 17% others and then they also calculate the mail and and in person votes requested to participate. that number inflates to 43 million plus as far as those who plan to at least make a plan to do that either early or in person. then they say that 46% of those were democrats choosing that

route. 25% of others. when it comes to that plan to vote, coming election day, maybe you have already voted because your state offers early voting. maybe you are waiting until election day to start the program today. if you want to tell us about why you chose that plan, feel free to do so. (202) 748-8001. for republicans, (202) 748-8000. independents&. some of you already posting on our facebook page when we posted this question earlier today. this is aaron fairbanks saying when it comes to the plan that he has, it is voting in person on election day. have that morning off of work thanks to a new company policy. he writes, suzanne says that it is the first day of early voting

in florida and she's planning on participating that way and then steve martin from facebook as well saying he mailed in one ballot last week. that one in all caps confirmed correctly, your ballot will be counted. if you want to let us know about it, do so on the phone lines. you can post on facebook, too. they know about this plan for voting. hello. >> i will be voting in person. i always do. it is my patriotic duty. i am an old man and that is just the way i like it. i will not vote for trump, the coward. if trump wins, you have a lot of choices. either lock and load or -- host: you say you will vote on election tape and why not go the early route? caller: i always vote on
2:42 pm
election day. that is just the way i am. host: ok. steve in sun city, california. republican line. steve, hello. >> i'm going to vote on election day as well. i like to do it in person. just like the other caller said, it is kind of personal. this year is very important election and what excited me, to be honest with you, because sometimes, i vote. i don't always vote. what i heard from kamala harris on one of her speeches, when somebody said jesus is lord and she remarked back, you got the wrong campaign. that was down the street. that really insulted me as a christian, to be honest with you. i don't know how any christian could possibly vote for somebody who has that sort of perspective. >> when you say you go on election day, do you feel it is a more secure process for you rather than doing it early or mailing it in? could you
2:43 pm
elaborate on that? >> i feel validated that i just feel -- i feel more reassured in doing it that way. it will be counted and that is just the way i feel about it. >> he is in california about planning to vote on election day itself. him and the previous collar, too. if that is your plan, you can tell us why. if you plan to participate in early voting, you can do that, too. some of these states that already started their early voting process showing some impressive numbers when it comes to turnout when it comes to news out of north carolina. they are reporting on their headlines. that is the georgia one you are seeing. that first week of early voting and we will probably talk about that as we talk about georgia as a battleground state. and there north carolina.
2:44 pm
the one million mark was passed, too. the state board of elections reports sunday that it is the fourth in day person of that early voting, more than the million voters in north carolina casting their ballots according to preliminary data and again, we are hearing from you, too. when it comes to this idea of how you plan to vote and if you already participated in the process. north carolina, which we just highlighted in that story. democrats line. hi. caller: you do such a great job. i will tell you, i love voting on the day, november 5, because it's kind of like a party atmosphere. some of the candidates are there. the partisans are there. also, i get information because i am not sure about a few of the smaller races like drudge or commissioners so i kind of make a few late decisions right there
2:45 pm
and let me say -- you were talking about turnout there. that is the most important thing . if there is a big turnout, almost always, the democrat is going to win. that is what happened in 2020. there was two thirds of the possible electorate voted it was a record both for percentage and just absolute numbers. you know, a lot of elections, there's barely 50% turnout but this could be like another record. >> when you see the headline i just shown about one million of your fellow carolinians already participating in the process, what do you think of the number? >> i think that is just amazing and it goes to show how motivated people are. i think it is on both sides but
2:46 pm
when there is a large turnout, it is almost always advantage to democrats and the people i see in line and my kids, the people i know, well, of course, they are going to be democrats but i think it is amazing that people are making sure that their vote gets counted and that is why we are having this amazing early voter turnout and i think it is great. it is amazing. >> roy, north carolina, one of those enjoying the million plus people who have already participated. georgia was on that list as well. today in our battleground series, we will be talking about the state of georgia, talking about the early voting there, too. harry in virginia, republican line. hello. >> i have been a longtime listener, first time caller. >> you are on. go ahead. what is your plan to vote this year? >> i will vote on election day and i feel like we should have no early voting. none.

no early voting other than military. why have election day and you've got early voting? it's like changing christmas. host: do you think early voting gives people -- more people a chance to participate if they cannot make it out on the day itself? caller: [indiscernible] you have election day. you vote on election day other than the military. i think it is ridiculous, this early voting. host: why is that? why do you think you are making a charade out of it if you do it earlier than election day? caller: there could be a whole lot of stuff going on. i will tell you, i mean, i am a
2:48 pm
broadcaster myself, over 40 years. i follow this stuff. this early voting, come on. come on. i hope to change it. host: ok. that's harry in virginia. this is carl in west virginia. he said he's planning on voting for former president trump at the earliest time possible because he is 86 years old and if he dies before election day, i want my kids to know i was thinking of their future. there is a reason there. maybe you share that or there are other reasons why you participate on election day itself or you go the early voting or mailing route. text us if you wish, post on social media if you like, and let us know what your plan is when it comes to early voting or election day voting or otherwise. massachusetts, independent line. hello. caller: thanks for having me on c-span. i will vote on election day.
2:49 pm
i think the biggest problem with voting early is that people have not heard enough from each candidate and their positions and what they are going to do when they are president and other things that come up during that period of time. when people vote early, other things come out of that. the information they did not know about so really when people are voting early, they are ignorant about a lot of facts and information that they are missing, you know, when they are voting early and i think it is a mistake to not have people vote on election day. they started doing that i think during the pandemic. and i think it was the wrong way to go. that is why a lot of people -- host: have you ever changed your
2:50 pm
mind on election day itself? caller: no, no, i wait until election day because a lot of things come out about the candidate even locally and worldwide, there is information if you are voting a month ahead of time or so that you are missing. you are voting in ignorance. you are voting without all the information you can collect or the knowledge you should have about each candidate. things come out every day. host: carol in massachusetts. nbc did some polling earlier, taking over this idea of a voting plan for october of this year. they asked. 52% said they planned to vote early and then 44% saying that they planned to vote on election day. go back in time for years to early october of 2020.
2:51 pm
back then, it was 59% of those saying they planned to vote early and then only 37% saying they were planning to vote on election day. covid being anything at the time was probably impacting that and then go back in time even further. the 2016 election, 41% saying they planned to vote early or voted early. 32% saying they planned to vote on election day ps several people calling him, saying election day is going to be the day they cast their votes. you can choose the best option or tell us the best option for you on the phone lines and it can also text us. you can post on our social media sites, too. many of you doin that. this is kendra texting us. she is from virgin, saying i am an independent peer devoted by mail three wes ago. since 2021, i me il-in voting a permanent option. i recently checkednle to verify my ballot was receive

2:53 pm
host: donald in virginia. a lot of virginians calling. republican line. hello. caller: donald trump because harris keeps on saying she's going to change the page but she could do it now because she is the vice president. she could close the border now but she just keeps on talking, ain't doing nothing. host: how do you plan to take care of that? do you plan to do it on election day or earlier? caller: i've already done it. host: why did you choose that route? caller: because i want to get it in. host: ok. donald in virginia. it was the vice president herself speaking to constituents in georgia over the weekend and part of that speech that she made to her constituents was this idea of encouraging her supporters to participate in early voting. part of the vice president's
