7:05 am
electoral votes in this election cycle than he did when he won in 2016. want to show viewers some of the headlines they are waking up to online. from the political media, from the right, it's breitbart. the head line trump towers, comeback t century. historic victory for the former president. democracy restored is what they write. to the huffington post, the nightmare returns their head line. trump elected president and republicans take the senate. here's one more for you from puh wl news this morning, calling it a trump quake rocking washington. trump's stunning evisceration of the blue wall and vice presens harris' under peur formance in all corners of the country has ushered in a new era for u.s. politics. it's a dramatic shiftigward. this one from the "wall street journal" this moring, donald trump elected the 47th presiden the former president the first in over a century to reclaim the
7:06 am
white house after losing it. refeing back to grover cleveland both the 22nd and 24th president back in the late 1880's. and the mid 1890's. and then focusing on the senate, this is roll call, their head hrao*eurpb. republicans claim the senate majority outright. there is a picture of bernie moreno. he will be the next u.s. senator from ohio. he beat sherrod brown in that state. republicans claiming ohio knocking off sherrod brown, aing montana, associated press calling that this morning. knocking off john tester in montana. you can see the senate map here. also republicans earlier in the evening yesterday claiming the open seat in west virginia. more than enough seats to take the senate majority. they have 352 right now -- 52 right now. they are ahead in three other contests. could be up to 55 or more seats in the next senate. then if you go to the house
7:07 am
election, we don't know who will be in control of the house come next congress. there are still 57 races to be called. if you look at the map democrats needed to flip four seats. a net gain of four seats, i should say, to take the house. right now republicans have a net gain of three seats. and again plenty of races left to be called. plenty of competitive races on the west coast we are waiting for. we'll don't know who will control the house in the next congress. we do know a lot as of this morning. host: john mccardell. thank you very muchment on your screen we'll give you information about key races and results coming in. the balance of power you'll see on the left side of the screen. we'll show you that all morning. go o our website at c-span.org. our enhanced campaign 2024 site which not only gives you the results. presidential election, but as john is was talking about, those house and senateaces. how they are breaking down. you can go granular in the sense
7:08 am
you can go to the map, look at a specific state, see where votes are coming in. and other information, too. that will be available to you at c-span.org and updated throughout the course of the morning. 202-748-8920 for harris. trump for 202-748-8921. for he others you can at 2 o 2-748-8903. a gina in maryland, supporter of vice president harris, good morning, go ahead. .a. caller: good morning. first aid like to thank you for the opportunity to have my voice heard this morning. i am so proud of what kamala harris did. she was a class act. and i cannot say that about the president-elect. but in hindsight we all know that these things must occur before christ's second coming.
7:09 am
we must live with the decision and must accept it, and we must brace ourselves for the terror that this country deserves voting him back into the white house. have a great day. host: regina from maryland. one from georgia. one of the battleground states that went to former president trump last night. a supporter of the president-elect. good morning. caller: good morning. thank you so much. i'm so glad that trump made it. and god did spare his life for everything that he has done. i do think trump -- i thank trump for being in office today. host: in georgia, like i said some of you responding to our socials. jennifer jones this morning what a national embarrassment. enjoy, reap what you sow, america. ericans for president trump's great victory. u saved our country from the
7:10 am
communist democrats destroying our great country. one of the greatest days in american history. prayers do wor don bean saying, today a nation is laid to rest as decne into a dictatorship begins. ron, tou, d, thank you, pennsylvania, thank you georgia, thank you, wiscsi listing off some of the key battleground states won by the president-elect in last night's election. hear from james in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. our line for those who supported others. james, hello. caller: hello. thank you for taking my call. yeah. i don't support harris or trump. i actually voted for jill stein. she's only -- trump or, they didn't show nobody else. i think trupl is a very corrupt man. he's going to build to pardon himself now. he's not going to be able to get convicted. he's going to be able to pardon himself. instead of legalizing drugs and
7:11 am
getting fentanyl -- putting it in the hands of the good people, they are just going to keep it illegal and keep fighting the stupid drug war. and it's going to make things worse. host: back to your original comment. why did you support jill stein? caller: because she's just like -- i have seen her before. she had a couple of good issues. you it's just like -- they do a little bit of good to do a bunch of evil. trump is going to do a little bit of good and a bunch of evil. you'll see. host: jack is up next. he's in maryland. supporter of vice president harris. good morning. caller: good morning. can't say i'm not profoundly disappointed. but apparently you can start an insurrection, steal government secrets, and you spread enough hatred against immigrants and
7:12 am
other people you can be re-elected president. host: how strong do you think vice president harris' campaign was? caller: i think she did the best she could with the time she had. i personally don't think she was the strongest possible candidate we could have put out front. considering the circumstances with what happened with joe biden in the first debate, i think the democratic party manicked a -- panicked a little bit, rightfully so if i'm being honest, i think she's the best and most logical choice given the circumstances. i don't think she was the best representative to communicate the democratic platform. she was not great at interviews. i could see what some of the issues were with the other side
7:13 am
putting out just the way she communicated. it wasn't clear. she didn't paint the best picture for her. i thought she had a lot of things to campaign on that she just failed to do. host: jack there in maryland. let's hear from minnesota. this is mark a supporter of the president-elect. go ahead. caller: i would just like to congratulate the democrats for running a pathetically bad candidate so as to get adolf hitler elected president. host: caller, i'll leave you there. we'll go back to john mccardell with more reaction. >> reaction pedro from world leaders coming in this morning. this is the headline from the hill newspaper. world leaders congratulating donald trump on his election win. t me just take you through some of thts and comments. president macron of france, congratulations president trump, ready to work together did for four years with your

convictions and mind with respect and ambition. for more peace and prosperity. primmister modi of tkwr*eupb, hardiest of congratulations, my friend. onvictory, as you build on the successes of your previous term i look forward to renewing to strengthen the u.s.-india global and strategic partnership. more this morningroprime minister staer of great britain. congratulaons on your historic election victory. i look forward to rking with you in the years ahead. more, prime minister beam netanyahu, dear donald and melania trump, congratulations on history greatest comeback. your historic return to the whe house offers a new beginning for america and a powerful recommitment for the great alliance between israel and america. this is a huge victory, he writes. one more, this from president stka len stkeu of aou -- stka len skaeu of -- zelinsky.
7:15 am
i recall our great meeting with president trump back in september when we discussed in detail the ukraine, u.s. partnership. the victory plan and ways to put an end to russian aggression against ukraine. world leaders writing early this morning after it became clear that donald trump was going to be the 47th president of the united states. host: reaction from world leaders. reaction from you. roy in georgia, our line for supporting others. good morning. caller: i'd like to say something about earlier gentleman that said putting up a weak democratic opponent to donald trump. i disagree. apparently he was pro-democratic. and she had three months. she did the best she could. but i would like to say i'm a republican by heart, but i'm
7:16 am
happy people voted. this is what we do. it's what we have. host: roy, it says you are supporting other candidates. which candidate did you vote for? caller: excuse me? host: it says you are calling in on the line for those who voted for other candidates. which candidates did you vote for. caller: i wroted a write in -- voted a write in candidate. host: why a write in versus the options you had otherwise? caller: because i believe that it has become as independent -- i believe it has become too -- it's just money and division that drives the two parties. something needs to change. host: hear from brock, in new jersey. supporter of vice president harris. hi. caller: hey. i'm definitely disappointed like most democrats. but i mean i want to say
7:17 am
congratulations trump, but i believe that joe biden is to blame. he did not prepare harris for success the whole time. the border issue. it's the border, stupid. all these people have come here and taken over. you can't not see it. every day. i feel so sorry for the women who feel like their rights have been trampled on and they are very scared right now. i want to continue to pray for them. also pray for the transpeople who feel scared out there. all the people who continue to feel like they have no way up. listen, this is clearly we realize what this country is about. get your money. get yours now. because the people that come here they are going to get theirs and they are going to come up. it doesn't matter if you have allegiance to this country. get your money. i'm really nervous about elon musk with so much control. they are already into our internet. into our personal lives. and i just don't want him to
7:18 am
have as much access as i feel like he already has. j.d. vance will be president soon. that is another trip. again, get your money. get you all money. host: brock there in new jersey. again if you go to our c-span website, just to show you that front page map where it takes a look at the united states when it comes to the presidential election, 277 electoral votes currently for former president trump making him the president-elect. 224 for kamala harris. show you the states that went for the various candidates and some of the states still tabulating. if you tap the website, it shows you what's taking place in that state. and as far as the amount of vote counts and who is getting the most there. that's a lot of information. other information, too, including a section for ballot initiatives. a lot of information there if you want to do that while you are watching the results. and hearing the reaction during
7:19 am
the course of the morning. five hours today that you'll have a chance to call in and give us your thoughts on the events of yesterday. let's hear from ann in florida. supporter of the president election, hello. caller: yes. this is ann marie cook. 27-year air force veteran. i'm thrilled that president trump has won. i am highly concerned about the immigration problem. i worked with software engineering. i was highly concerned about the cyber issue. elon will handle that. i saw a lot of medical problems happen in the country. so that means that bobby will handle that. we are going to have the greatest country we have ever had. and all the overbearing government interference with the f.b.i. and the c.i.a. is going to end. i worked eclectic work -- electronic work for 27 years. i know what i'm talking about.
7:20 am
like the guy said get your money what can you. no, we have a capitalist country. it's not about getting your money. it's what can you do for this country. host: ed is up next in new jersey for those who supported others he's calling in. hello. caller: ed o'donnell. there were many good third party candidates for president, i was one of them. first colgate university for president to run for president. i want to did you in the news media today to deal with the many other issues not discussed by the two major candidates. there are a loft important issues that we need to discuss as we wrap up the election. host: such as what? caller: helping our workers. construction workers, bus drivers, sanitation workers, many workplaces, a lot of dust, dirt, grease, grime, mold. we have to do higher pay, higher benefits. we have to do more to help our workers.
7:21 am
host: from linda in california, supporter of vice president harris. hi. caller: hi. how you doing? i have two issues. first one is i just wanted to inform people that no one seems to be aware of this. my parents came from russia in 1950's. first thing a dictator says is the media is the enemy. because they don't want them to hear the news. second of all, i'm really concerned about in program 2025 they are going to take away a lot of the benefits. my husband has a.l.s. disached. is is00% disabled from vietnam. and i'm afraid we are going to lose all our benefits. so the veterans better be worried about it. he's going to ruin the military. host: linda, tell me your thoughts on the vice president's performance in this election.
7:22 am
caller: i'm sorry, what? host: your thoughts on the vice president's performance in this election. caller: the vice president's perform -- sorry, i can't hear you. host: how well did you think vice president harris did in running her campaign? caller: oh, how do i feel she did. i really i think she did it with class. i don't think she insulted people the way he did. he's also a man who walked on teenage girls -- i would have had him in jail. host: former president trump, now president-elect in connecticut, this is curtis. hello. caller: how you doing. first of all i want to say thank you for this opportunity for everyone -- first of all i'm a pastor. i own a church in connecticut. for everyone calling trump racist and all this stuff, listen. the bottom line is this. harris and the biden administration, they want to let
7:23 am
transgenders and play in women sports. raised six kids, one girl, five boys. two of my sons are officers. my granddaughters are growing up. listen, god loves each and every one of us. john 3:16 says for god so loved the world he gave his only begotten son. he loves them just hates the sin. i want to congratulate trump for a wonderful job. for harris, she don't even know politics. she couldn't answer questions. but i could understand that the problem is that a lot of black people wanted to make history. and i'm not about making history. i'm about making the country great again. and i believe trump is going to make our country great again. he's going to close up the borders. he's going to do a lot of things for our country that is needed. host: do you think he should do anything differently than he did from his first term in office? caller: his first term in office was phenomenal.
7:24 am
trump is for the american people, first of all. make that clear. he's for the american people. and all this lies about him and people are being deceived but not being in prayer. not seeking god. host: do you think he should do anything differently this time around? caller: i don't think he should do anything different. i think -- what he should do is continue to get our country back where it needs to be at. secure the borders. he's not racist against people. he's -- you are going to come to america, come over here the right way not the wrong way. so he's doing what a president's supposed to do. host: that's curtis there in connecticut. again visit the peach state of georgia. david, a supporter of vice president harris, hi. caller: hey, good morning. i really hope when the dust settles and the democratic party looks back at this they realize what a mistake it was for the turn to the right in the last few weeks, last month of the election. with gaza already being a weak
7:25 am
point for harris, and with a lot of the frustrations from 2016 that got trump elected in the first place, being people disillusioned -- a liberal kron census, something like the iraq war and forever wars. buddy buddying with liz cheney and sending bill clinton to michigan. i don't understand what the thought process was there. i hope that the lesson that's learned is 2020, you made a pact with the bernie wing of the party and you had record turnout, and the most votes for any candidate, 2016 and 2024 you run somebody who is closer truly to center right and got stomped. i just don't understand what the thought process was. host: david there in georgia. one of those battleground states that was closely watched in the leadup to yesterday. president-elect trump winning that state yesterday. that was the term as far as his

fuhr. the fuhr of the senate determined as well. with that more names will you see heading to the senate floor after next year. with the run down of where the senate is right now here's john mccardell. john: right now with several races left to call, republicans will control the senate with 52 seats so far. they could increase that majority in the next congress to the mid 50's. let me run through the outstanding races and where they are right now. starting in the a important keysto state of pennsylvania. republican dave mccormick is vo.ad there 49% of the senator bob casey trailing with 48% of the vote. and most of the vote is in. 97% is in. michigan, it's mike rogers, republican running there. former member of congress. ains allissa lot skin the democrat. it's a dead heat. 48 1/2% to 48 1/2%. literally a couple tens of

7:31 am
they don't remember -- when donald trump was president we were paying less than $2. 2. a. 50. or even $1.85. now we are paying $3, $4 for gas. that happened when biden went into office. they forgot that obama threw $500 million and gave it to the iranian government. now they are going to use that money against israel. against other countries. other countries in the middle east. it's about what bush did making the false investigation in iraq. for what? for oil. he said there were weapons of mass destruction. host: how does that deal with yesterday? caller: sir, i support donald trump because he's here for the right reason. the four years that he was in, he helped us. the v.a., he got rid of those 11,000 people that were corrupted within the v.a. system. now we have a great system with
7:32 am
v.a. people have -- forget what they had while donald trump was in office. now how can someone have prefer biden with his making money for his own personal use, ukraine. from china. host: that's george there in florida. hear from rudy in california. supporter of vice president harris. hello. caller: yes. good morning, pedro. didn't go as i planned. but the campaign that was ran was a fair misogyny -- fear and misogyny. as an older black man i'm so surprised that the younger black men, hispanic men, and even white men that they would avow that attitude. basically next time a president race is made, the democrats might think about that. just run a campaign of fear and
7:33 am
don't worry about anything else. god help us. thank you, pedro. host: schenn nell -- sha chanel from florida, supporter of president-elect. caller: i am ecstatic. i have news for the democrats and their voters. one of the reasons you people lost is all of the name-calling. all of the berating. all of the indignant comments that were made towards maga supporters. trump supporters. i'm a african-american woman. as early as this morning just putting on facebook we won winning wednesday. here comes somebody else calling me a sellout. i don't owe the democrats anything. and i don't understand how the democrat party thinks they had a winning strategy putting illegal aliens ahead of us in hotel rooms. free health care. open borders. and how do they think that
7:34 am
people with common sense really believed in all this garbage they were spewing. democrats talk about we are talking about -- no, we weren't. it's the democrats. he's going to take away your health care. your 2025. your abortion rights. all these things. one of them told me this morning, this is going to be the last election ever. he's never going to leave. who is the one filling your head with this fear mongering garbage? it isn't the republicans. it's the democrats. and at the end of the day we are tired of the race card. we are tired of the pandering. everything in the democrat party is race, race, race. i'm personally sick of it. they got -- host: ok. hear from bill. bill in maryland. supporter of vice president harris. hi. caller: yes, hi. good morning. congratulations to president trump. i did vote for harris. i think she did a good job given what she was given.
7:35 am
and i think she was blamed for some things which she was not responsible for and she could not break away and move from her role as vice president. one last thing i'd like to indicate is that our country has burnt bridges and established barriers. my hope is is that we will come together -- my hope is that we will come together as americans, not just democrats, republicans, and independents, but as americans and come together and rebuild these bridges and tear down these walls. and truly as americans collectively make america great again. thank you. host: bill in maryland. wile continue why your calls. call us on the line that best represents you. if you called in the last 30 days, hold off. it was in the early hours this morning that former president
7:36 am
went before supporters before the official call of the electoral college went to his advantage. he talked to his supporters and talked a little bit about what he envisions at the time as the next president of the united states. here's former president trump from early this morning. mr. trump: we have thousands of friends in this incredible movement. this was a movement like nobody's ever seen before. and frankly this was, i believe, the greatest political movement of all time. there's never been anything like this in this country. now it's going to reach a new level of importance because we are going to help our country heal. help our country heal. we have a country that's -- that needs help and it needs help
7:37 am
very badly. we are going to fix our borders. we are going to fix everything about our country. we made history for a reason tonight. and the reason is going to be just that. we overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible. and it is now clear that we have achieved the most incredible political thing. look what happened. it's a political victory that our country has never seen before. nothing like this. i want to thank the american people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president. [cheers and applause] i will fight for you, for your family, and your future. every single day i will be fighting for you.
7:38 am
with every breath in my body. i will not rest until we have delivered the strong safe and prosperous america that our children deserve and that you deserve. this will truly be the golden age of america. that's what we have. host: there was more to that from the early morning hours of today. if you want to go to our website at c-span.org, can you see those comments including the comments of thepresident elect, j.d.ance. access those through our app at c-span now. james from maryland supporter of vice president harris g ahead. caller: good morning. i would like to -- i voted for harris. voted by mail. i would like to remind all the people that supported the vice president feeling low this morning. remember, on next january 6, she will perform one last official
7:39 am
duty. she will certify the electors of her opponent just like al gore did in 2000. mondale did in 1980. it's not an easy thing to do. i want all the people that supported harris watch her. she won a seat at the table. she lost the election, but she won a seat at the table. first woman african-american watch her on january 6. watch how she performs. and actually and graciously -- actually and graciously and watch her and -- constitutional y and graciously. host: we have been telling you about the other races and the things to look for after election day. one of those is the fuhr of the house and who -- future of the house and who will control power in the house of representatives. with more on that here's john
7:40 am
mccardell. >> we may not know for several days the house razor thin margin for house makeup of 435 seats. all of them on the line. some 57 races have yet to be called. remember, democrats need a net gain of four seats to take over the house. right now as it stands republicans have net three seats tonight. trying to look around the map to understand what's still at play. sometimes it's better to take these things into bite size chunks. one way to look at it is to look at four seats in california where republican members of the hoist were trying to defend their seats. trying to hold on to them in race that is were rated by the cook political report and other race rating agencies as tossups heading into election day. let me take you through four of those, pedro. you can see where they stand. democrats were hoping to perhaps sweep all of them in california in a blue wave out there.

harris. hi. caller: hi. i'm very sad today. i was a harris supporter. but i do want to congratulate president trump. he won fair and square. do i want to remind the republicans and everybody who voted for trump that they now have the supreme court, the senate, and looks like the house and the presidency. so the next four years the age of golden or whatever trump said, do not blame democrats for anything that goes on in the next four years. because you guys have it all. if you are not happy, you better look at your own party. because you have it all now. you better make it. because it's going to -- you know what i mean. host: let me ask you this before you go. were you surprised your state went to the president-elect?
7:46 am
caller: a little bit. i thought harris did better in georgia. just because i hadn't seen as many trump signs in my area. i just was very -- i was pretty blown away by the amount of support trump had across the country. i mean that's the people have spoken. that's the way our democracy works. we are not going to go back in there and start screaming and yelling that we were -- it's rigged. we are not going to do that. he won. and we accept it and hope for the best. host: let me ask you, how satisfied were you with the voting system this time around in your state? caller: for me very satisfied. they did a great job. i went in. they were friendly, helpful. and professional. i was very -- couldn't have been more pleased. host: where is grove town in the state, by the way. caller: it's right -- sort of

the suburb of augusta, georgia. host: marion giving her thoughts from one of the battleground states looked at carefully during the course of this campaign. hear from elizabeth, elizabeth joins us from illinois. a supporter of president-elect trump. good morning. caller: good morning. it's a great morning, actually. i'm proud to be an american. i supported president trump elect because of his border policies. very happy for all of those who have lost -- the family member who were murdered and raped. i'm hoping president-elect trump gets them out of the country as fast as possible. i hope he's successful in doing that.
7:48 am
i think that the vice president harris won we would have been in a lot of trouble. i'm very grateful this is the outcome. host: this is elizabeth there in illinois giving us her thoughts. we'll hear next from rick, rick in new jersey. supporter of vice president harris. hi. caller: good morning. i did support vice president harris. only because i felt there was no choice. i'm curious about how the history will be written years from now. we go back as far as the 60's and 70's with the hippie culture came alive. some good came from that. a lot of disrespect for law and order he. there also was a time when the two income household became
7:49 am
prevalent. i think this contributed to a lack of parenting. by parenting i mean teaching honesty and integrity. maybe this was substituted with the winning at any cost mentality. host: rick, when you say that you have no other choice regarding the vice president, are you one to think that president biden should have stayed in the race or another option? can you elaborate on that? caller: i think there should have been a primary and she should have been forced to earn the position. i think she was handed it. ultimately she was handed it because of her race and her gender. that's why i think she was chosen by biden to begin with. i think this is -- a lot of this is biden's fault. he should have gotten out a lot earlier. he just didn't.
7:50 am
host: ok. hear from steve. steve in florida. supporter of the pruz elect. good morning -- president-elect. good morning. caller: good morning. you guys are doing a great job. listen, the press has to totally regroup and rethink. it's massive group think for kamala. we don't want open borders. we don't want sky-high inflation. you don't defund the police. right now in the liberal cities you are going to need the police. the thing about it is this, people didn't believe the press what they said. they just didn't believe it. you don't get 14 is million votes -- 14 million votes to somebody that didn't earn it. that's anti-democracy that's not democracy. so the squirrels have spoken last night. we just want -- we don't want men and women sports. and girl -- in girl sports.

the party of tolerance. he has been bullied beyond anything i have ever seen. i am going to tell you. he has thanked god for his life. god bless america and god bless donald trump. host: carol in georgia as the special extended version of our program takes place, five hours total taking a look at the results of yesterday's election. you have a chance to call in and make your thoughts known. the result even with president-elect, still out there and still states yet to determine how they will vote or how they loaded for either president-elect or the vice president. here is a rundown. host: president-elect currently has 277 electoral votes, more than he needs for the
8:26 am
presidency. now it is a question of how much donald trump is going to run it up in the outstanding races. let me run through where we are in those races. in michigan, with 97% reporting, donald trump is at the0% mark and harris is at the 48.3% mark. 15 electors at stake in the wolverine state. in arizona, 11 electors, donald trump is at 52%, harris at 7%, 61% ofotes in. ectors at stake, donald trumpix at 51.5 percent. harris at just under 47%. the other state that has not been called by the associated press, is alas thawould be a truehock if they went to
8:27 am
harris, donald trump up by more reporting.rcent with 76% a good guess he will win that state. if he wins all four outstanding states he will get 314 electoral votes, more than the 304 electoral votes he got in 2016 win the presidency. he got 232 electoral votes in 2020 when he lost to joe biden. the other is the popular vote and he seems poised to win the popular vote, currently at 700 william 205,000 -- 700 million 205,000 -- 700,205,000. he stands at 71 million and

vivian in north carolina, a supporter of vice president harris. caller: hello. i am calling. i voted for harris as a democrat. i have been listening to the comments that were made. first of all, i think a lots of information that people were persuaded to vote against her is misinformation. i am very devastated about trump becoming president again. i can't recall where millions of people that were hurt because of his negligence. people don't take that into consideration.
8:30 am
i feel like a convicted felon, the most convicted felon cannot -- most convicted felons cannot vote. how does he get the opportunity to vote or even run for presidency? these are things i cannot support. i cannot support a person who does not demonstrate any morals or values. the things he says out of his mouth. this is not something i am used to, especially coming from a president. host: kentucky was one of the early states that went for the former president and now president-elect. craig calling from the line supporting the president-elect. caller: a great morning to be a
8:31 am
republican and to be a trump supporter. listening to the democrats to talk this morning in i think one thing that really hurt them is they said kamala never did talk about what she was going to do and the democrats said go to her website. the people didn't want to go to her website he wanted to hit it out of her mouth and she would never do it. she would estate around the issues and she would not come up with definitive answers to questions and things like that. that is what hurts her in this. i know she just had hundred days to do this and was sort of thrown into the stop light very quickly and that hurt the democrats this time. trump is not a politician. he is a businessman.
8:32 am
host: considering he was the former president, isn't he a politician technically? caller: he is a politician but he is a business plan and he knows how to run a business in this country is a business and we need it run as a business to get it back on its feet in where it needs to be. host: comments from the president-elect in the early hours of this morning, he gave time to his vice presidential running mate jd vance. here is a portion of comments from earlier this morning. far from wrong. as an american, trump was telling the truth about the democratic policies that created fear of our individual liberties that were at stake. so the dems created trump and what america did. because of the policies. host: who did you vote for? caller: trump is the only one who you could. he is independent. host: i will stop you there. i want to enforce the rule that i've set a couple times this morning that if you call on the line for others, make sure you have voted for others when it comes to the election. let's hear from brian who supported vice president harris. host: -- caller: i voted for harris for president and i want people to realize that the trump policies that they like so much,
8:35 am
no taxes on tips, and no taxes on social security, no taxes and there was another one, you are in defunding social security. how are you going to close that gap back? instead of 2030 six social security being gone, it will be done in 2031. as a businessman? come on. bankruptcies of the thousand americans died under his watch due to covid while he just cared about golfing. he is the president in i think democrats can be mature and accept the results because you know the republicans can't. host: we will hear from andy in
8:36 am
kentucky, a supporter of the president-elect. caller: just remember who you voted for in the reasons that you voted. because as he tries to implement what he wants to do, he will have lawsuits and media and everyone will be attacking him and for you people who voted for him, be grounded in how you voted. write it down and make notes so you can reflect a white you voted and what you want the president to do. host: also joining us is john mcardle with information about yesterday. john: the hundred 19th congress when it sits in january will have several notable firsts as an articleoints out.
8:37 am
the firsts in the 119th congress including the democrat from delaware, first to black women to serve together in the senat, neither delaware or maryland tt had a black senator and delaware had never been presented by a woman in the united states senate. there is always -- also the first openly trans and -- transgender member. congresswoman elect julie johnson of texas, a democrat, the first openly gay member not only representing tes but the entire south. emily randle at the democrat of washington on track to be the first openly lgbtq latina in congress. her race has not been officially called. senar elect andy kim of new
8:38 am
jersey, the first korean american in congress. the democrat from arizona poised to become the first hispanic senator from arizona if he hold on his race has not been called yet . ansenator elect of ohio, the republican, will be the first hispanic lawmaker to represent ohio statewide. that all in the wrap up for historic firsts in the 19th congress. host: john mcardle giving us that information and will be giving it to us all morning. you can also go to our website at c-span.org and follow along. john mentioning the republican challenger to the ohio race, it was after last night's victory speech from yesterday. [video clip] >> today it starts a new wave. we talked about wanting a red
8:39 am
wave, i think what weight have is a red, why, and blue wave. what we need in the united states in america is leaders in washington, d.c. that actually put the interests of american citizens above all else. we are tired of being treated like second-class citizens in our own country. we are tired of leaders who think we are garbage and we are tired of being treated like garbage. my opponent talked a lot about helping the working man and i will agree with him on the need to help working americans. the difference is talked without action isn't nothing. what we are going to do, thanks do not have been a republican majority for the senate -- [cheers and applause]
8:40 am
chuck schumer, if you are watching, thanks for the help in the primary, but you are fired, buddy. this is a new dawn of republican leadership. president trump and jd vance in the white house, we will advance an agenda that is an american agenda that says we are pro-immigration but not pro-invasion. we will make certain that the people who come to this country are invited here like i was in my family was on our terms. we won't make this country and energy dominant nation so that my kids do not grow up in a country where we ever rely on a foreign nation for energy ever again. [cheers and applause] can we have the energy in ohio, that means coal, natural gas, oil and nuclear.
8:41 am
in terms of ev mandates, they need to be gone first thing in january. [cheers and applause] we will say to california you don't get to dictate to the country what our emissions standards are and we will do it at the federal level and allow consumers to pick the kind of car they want. the other piece i want to talk about is what president trump has brought to this country which is peace and stability around the country. america will be a leader of the world and will always be a leader of the world. american leadership has made the planet safer, more prosperous and more secure than at any point in human history, but it means that we ensure peace. the weakness of joe biden and kamala harris is rejected good weather jerusalem or keive or
8:42 am
taiwan they are cheering because they know american strength will ensure peace around the world. host: you can find the speeches at ourebsite, c-span.org. check out our free video app if you want to see some of the speeches from yesterday. let's hear from mark in oregon, supporter of vice president harris. good morning. caller: i did look for harris. i have lived in a rural community oregon. for most of us it is predominantly red but you gain a perspective that you may not see in other communities, other cities across the country. my brother and i don't align politically. i love him very much but talking to him and others alike, it really comes down to basic issues, inflation, groceries are
8:43 am
expensive. stuff like that that willie was all it took to tip the scale. i understand -- stuff like that is what it took to tip the scale. but boots on the ground, buying groceries, gas was enough at least from what i am surrounded by to vote for trump. host: do you think -- he hung up. let's hear from bob in kansas, supporter of president-elect trump. caller: i wanted to make a few points about where i think we are as a country. on a domestic level, the president elect was never a politician and he had always made his living in business.
8:44 am
i don't know that that has ever happened in the history of our nation. also the other thing that has never happened in terms of the former president, he was prosecuted by the justice department, i was a unfairly. that was also a first. there has never been a president that was prosecuted as donald trump was. obvious facts domestically they were using the trifecta. there is little doubt that the country was unhappy with what was going on. i would encourage people who were voting for harris to look
8:45 am
at other media outlets. i do that and try to listen to all of the media outlets. that way you can evaluate what you are actually hearing and you can see that the media in large part for the last quite a few years, all of the years of donald trump, has demonized him and been part of the problem. the democratic party itself needs to look at itself to see how it needs to stop that kind of thing so that we can all move on and be better. host: let's hear from mika, supporter of vice president harris in north carolina. caller: i am an army veteran.
8:46 am
i also enjoy working civil service. this is the first election i worked as a poll worker and will probably be the last. publicans now have the supreme court, senate, white house and probably will have the house. even though they tried to take away my rights as a trans person . in north carolina health representative trying to take away the rights of transgender's in north carolina. those are a few who have been reelected. i am not going to give them a chance to influence my life more than they have and am planning to leave the united states. now that trump has been given
8:47 am
immunity, that is not healthy. host: let's hear from a supporter from other candidates in this election. we will hear from patrick. caller: good morning. i voted third party and i think the speaker from oregon summed up probably why trump won. a lot of people have been talking to friends that don't like trump and if he wins i think it will be because groceries are expensive, gas is expensive. our governor is going to be enacting a tax that will have $.65 extra despite the very expensive gas. very frustrated. host: you said you voted third party.
8:48 am
who did you vote for and why? caller: i voted for somebody because i liked what they stood for. host: what do you think about robert kennedy being attached to the trump campaign? caller: that is a good question. i was really surprised but surprised but not surprised. i didn't vote from him from the standpoint of trying to get trump in. host: john mcardle joining us with his thoughts. >> towards 9:00 eastern, an update on where we are concerning the 119th congress. we know that republicans will control the senate and the hundred 19th congress, the gained enough seats to do so. they took over seats in montana
8:49 am
and seats in ohio and the open seat in west virginia. let's run through where the rest of the races stand. republicans at 52 seats in the senate with several races yet to be called. they could make the majority in the senate in the mid-50's by the time all is said and done. in pennsylvania, dave mccormick, republican is up from bob casey, with 97% reporting and is less than half a percentage point -- ss tn one percentage point separating thef them in the keystone state but dave in michigan, the wolverine elia slotkin is slightly ahead of mike rogers but it is still very close as it has been for h inichigan.
8:50 am
wisconsin, there is 99% reporting and tammy baldwin the sitting senator is in the lead 49.4%, almost one percentage point. i want to take vieo arizona. it is the congressman in the lead at 50 point 4% to kari lake, 47.6% -- 50.4% to kari lake, 47.6%. if republicans sweep the remaining states they could be to the mid to high 50's but we will see what happens in the senate. in the house as you know, plenty
8:51 am
of races to be called, all for hundreds advice seats up, 57 to be called. democrats need a net of four seats to win the united states house and take it over. this is the latest fr the cook political report, the race rating agency that has been watching all cycle. they don't think it will happen for democrats in the house. this is the tweet after 8:30, at this point the most likely outcome is a republican trifecta, including a continued hous majority. we will watch in the hours as the house races finally get called. host: this is bruce texting us from ohio, i voted for president trump, it is time for a country to come together to support
8:52 am
president trump. make our countryreest country it has ever been. this is paul in new jersey, a marine veteran. given the highest post in the country, i hope they win the house so they can -- in california saying vice president harri loss is due to her agenda. i think there is a cross-section of men would never elect a woman leader and says sa this is sophia saying i'm grateful to live massachusetts. we have elected officials will fight for equal rights, health care and good education. i worry for fellow americans who li in states where this is not guaranteed. inus is easy, you can do that by (202) 748-8003. support -- vice president harris, (202) 748-8920
8:53 am
if you support the president-elect (202) 748-8921. for those who vor others (202) 748-8922. greg is up next on the others' line in kentucky. caller: i was -- i voted others. i didn't vote and haven't voted in 40 years. last time i voted was when i lived in california and voted for the three strike rule. and made a mistake voting on that and since then i haven't voted ever sense because i don't trust either party. the republican party is racist and the democrat party is racist to each other.
8:54 am
i watched c-span all the time. what really bothers me is my mom is a democrat through and through peer we argue and when i drive my car and go look at the gas station to see the gas prices up at three dollars, every time a democrat gets in office, gas prices go up, taxes go up. so i stopped voting in my main reason i stopped voting, i will vote, until you stopped sending my tax money to other countries, then i will vote. otherwise i will never vote again. i served this country in the u.s. army during the ronald reagan administration way back in the day. they gave us a raise but when i joined the military, it was probably one of the biggest mistakes i made because i serve god and i would never serve to protect this country and i'm not giving my life to this country
8:55 am
to lose my leg and lose my life to give my mom a flag. host: let's hear from kevin in illinois supporting the president-elect. caller: god bless you. a great day for the trump people. he got in and you can thank the religious people and the church is for it. i thank you. you let me say the lord's prayer two months ago. host: you are on still. go ahead. caller: this is about god and trump. god showed the world he is still in charge. i went to a rally and god said go tell the president he saved our country. this was in 2017i got there and -- 2017 and i didn't just give
8:56 am
the message to trump that he saved our country, he stopped in his tracks when i hollered that out about god and he repeated it. from what we have seen, we realize god is the reason he is here. can i say a quick prayer again for our country, please. host: quickly. caller: our father who art in heaven, hollywood be thy name -- give us this day our daily bread, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. thank you so much. host: we will go to alexander in baltimore, supporter of other candidates. caller: good morning. thanks for taking my call. i voted for cornell west because
8:57 am
i felt cornell west was the only education -- educated person in these matters so he would have the best understanding and grasp of what was going on. i must say that i am ecstatic to know that donald is president. the reds -- reason why it is because donald trump's presidency is a disk accreditation to the united states judicial system in more ways -- trump process presidency is a dis -accreditation to the united states additional system in more ways than one. donald trump is now using a judicial system against the people and retracting constitutional rights and not addressing constitutional rights . i never regarded the united states as political going back
8:58 am
to its inception. i am ecstatic to see donald trump in here because he completely is a sign as to why the united states was never a legitimate entity to begin with. all people of color and who are outside the emergence of what white america deems to be acceptable, this is a sign for you. host: this is evelyn in baltimore who voted for vice president harris caller:. caller:-- harris. caller: i voted for harris. i watched last night but always had this feeling that she wasn't going to win because i feel like this. this country would not vote in a white lady, hillary clinton as president so who makes everyone
8:59 am
think they will vote in a woman of color. they can talk about god and jesus but they are all hypocrites because donald trump stands for everything that is not religious. host: this is david in michigan, supporter of the president-elect. caller: i just had a thought. when president trump was in his first term, they were trying to sue him before he even took office. and then he lost to biden and i think that was a blessing in disguise because during that time they sued him for every reason imaginable. now he is in office again, they have kind of run out of steam and there's nothing else they can sue him for. maybe he can focus on running the country rather than fighting the democrats. host: that is david in michigan finishing off our two -- hour
9:00 am
two of our program. if you want to call and give us thoughts, if you support vice president harris it is (202)748e president-elect, donald trump, (202) 748-8921, if he supported and voted for other candidates, text us, you do thatt 202- to 488-8903. this is susan on the line for other from connecticut. caller: i voted for the green party. i voted for jill stein because of her position on palestine.
9:01 am
morally i could not vote for either candidate supporting the killing of so many children every day. , so many mothers. i have to say this led me -- i think 12 years ago sumitomo devoted third-party and i was like you are throwing your vote away. no. we have to reform our system. i see the democrats and republicans as the purple party. they are two sides of the same coin. the democrats did not even, battle for who was going to run. they just picked kamala, somebody they knew there was going to do what they wanted them to do. i don't feel we are a democracy. we are an oligarchy. just like israel is not a democracy. i want to tell people maybe you
9:02 am
will see they are jerking our chains. once i tell people i'm not for kamala, not for trump, i can talk for both sides because they don't get offended with me. they like us fighting with each other. the last thing i want to say is i talked -- i gave a lady to the post. she was going to vote for trump. i took her to the grocery store. her main issue was immigration. i want you to think back. dear member -- do you remember when the iran hostage is -- i think it was jimmy carter that was president. he made a deal so the hostages before the election would be released. the reason they weren't released is because they wait until after the election so it could be reagan. her immigration, they had the bill, the democrats, the bipartisan bill for immigration. it was tougher than i liked but
9:03 am
the reason they did not pass it, donald trump said don't pass that. don't pass that until after the election. that is what we need to win. think about it and maybe you will be like me. it took about eight years to get smart. it is the purple party, republicans and democrats on the same side. host: that is susan in connecticut. let's hear from a supporter of vice president harris. this is paul. caller: good morning. thank for having me on, pedro. i'm a follower. there are a lot of things that i don't have enough time to speak on. personally, the race was not, you know, it wasn't a murdering. kamala stood her ground, got her votes. i was hoping she would have won. i did vote for her.
9:04 am
trump, i'm completely against him. right before he left office he pardoned so many people. yesterday his son was already talking about this case with diddy. there are so many things that are more important. aside from that, we have the immigration. we have religious congregations and churches that are thanking him and praising him like he's an all power, like the second coming. he's just another human that leads. we -- bleeds. we need someone that will unite america. the speech, this is red, white and blue, my bloodline is puerto rican. how my post to feel about them calling my race trash? the democrats hit back. that is what they are doing. the last couple of weeks was just back-and-forth insulting of
9:05 am
each other. nothing was standing on solid ground about what was going to be done. everything was a concept on both sides. host: jacob in virginia, supporter of the president-elect. caller: good morning. god bless america. thank you for having me on the show. host: go ahead. caller: can you hear me? host: go ahead. caller: you are very fair and balanced about this. other news anchors on msnbc, cnn, they are having meltdowns saying trump is a fascist and this other stuff. we had four great years under president trump. there was no fascism involved. we had a flourishing economy, low prices on gas, goods and services across the united states. we had peace. i'm a proud u.s. army disabled veteran. for our nation to not be in
9:06 am
wars, to not be involved as a world police is a big key. going forward, the team that trump put together is a phenomenal team. i think there's a lot of people that have been given a disservice through the liberal media telling them lies and blatant untruths and falsehoods. i hope of the next four years we really move forward as americans. host: jacob in virginia giving us his thoughts. of you are in california. barbara, a supporter of vice president harris. you are next up. caller: good morning. host: go ahead. caller: i am an 84-year-old great-grandmother. i voted for kamala because i'm
9:07 am
looking for the future that my rights as a woman and my children, my great-grandchildren will all have those rights. to be able to take care of their bodies. it is their bodies. it is not the government's. it is certainly not men's bodies. host: finish your thought. you are listening to the television. caller: ok. i voted for her because i voted for women's rights. i'm an 84-year-old great-grandmother. i what my great grandchildren to have the choice of what they want to do. i also believe donald trump will never change. i have followed him since he first went out and took out a full-page against five innocent men.
9:08 am
him and his father were racists unable to rent to anyone of color. i feel he does not deserve to be president of this country. host: barbara in california giving us her thoughts. more from former president trump before the nomination was officially -- the officially was secured for him. he was talking to supporters, referencing the assassination attempt you are familiar with. here is the president-elect from earlier this morning. [video] >> they said many people have told me god spared my life for reason. [cheers] and that reason was to save our country and restore america to greatness. now we are going to fulfill that
9:09 am
mission together. the task before us will not be easy. i will bring every ounce of energy, spirit and fight that i have in my soul to the job you have entrusted to me. this is a great job. there is no job like this. it is the most important job in the world. just as i did in my first term -- we had a great first term. i will govern by a simple motto. promises made, promises kept. we will keep our promise. nothing will stop me from keeping my word to you. we will make america safe, strong, prosperous, powerful and free again. i'm asking every citizen across our land to join me in this noble and righteous endeavor. that is what it is. time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us.
9:10 am
it is time to unite. we are going to try. we have to try. it's going to happen. i have seen that. i have seen that. i saw that in the first term when we became more and more successful. people started coming together. success is going to bring us together. we are going to start by putting america first. we have to put our country first for at least eight period -- a period of time. we have to fix it. we can make america great again for all americans. i want to tell you what a great honor this is. i want to thank you. i will not let you down. america's future will be better, better, bolder, richer, safer and stronger that it has ever been before. god bless you and god bless america. thank you very much. [cheers] ailable at her website at c-span.org.
9:11 am
c-span now. later on today we are expecting to hear from viciden harris as she addresses her supporters. u n keep track of all that is going on in the aft of yesterday's election at the website, c-span.org. those go back to john. host: as we talked about we know republicans will control the senate. there are things we don't know. the size of the republican majority in the senate. it could continue to grow as the last of the races come in. who will be the next senate majority leader? mitch mcconnell has been the longtime leader of senate republicans. he is stepping down from that post. the race to replace him will take place on november 13. it is a secret ballot. here is a recent fortune magazine story on the race to replace mitch mcconnell as th leader of senate republicans. as the gop loo tretake the

senate, one of the two johns or a strong trump ally could be in charge, referring to john cornyn of texas ojo thune, the current number two of south dakota. the second ranking republican among republic senators. the third person is rick scott. he could act as a spoiler in this race. another candidate could jump in asl. a secret ballot set to take place on november 13 when we will know more. speaking of the two johns and senator rick scott, they were tweeting late last night and early this morning. starting with senator cornyn, saying the american people rejected senate democrats disastrous border policies, reckless spending and faild management. chuck schumer has broken the senate but i'm confident this new conservative majority can restore it. more for statement he links to.
9:13 am
r john thune with his statement late last night just after 2:20 a.m. eastern time. "congratulations to president trump and senator vance onher hard-fought victory. the american people have chosen to turn the page on the biden-harris administration's failed policies of high prices and open borders and instead try to new course r country. the incoming senate majority will work hand-in-hand wi the trump-vance adminiraon to lower costor families, secure our border and renew america's energy dominance. the work begins now." rick scottf florida after he was reelected last night and after donald trump was reelected. "i'm thrilled to congratulate my friend and 47 president donald trump. now begins the work to turn the page on the disastrous biden-harris agenda and make our country great again." kenneth in washington state, a
9:14 am
supporter of the president-elect. caller: good morning. i am proud my prayer was answered that he got in. one thing i never heard out of a lot of the politicians, there's only one race. the human race. i'm so happy that he won. we can turn this -- everything around now. i was worried because i heat my house with propane. that they would shut that off. harris talking about that. i heard them talking about shutting all the propane things down here. down the road from here in washington we have the plant. it's a coal mining place. they found 20 years worth of propane. i was worried about that. my prayer was answered.
9:15 am
i am glad to be an american. i listened to the guy from kentucky talk about how, you know, these building the military and he never voted. he don't have any right. i know this is america. freedom of speech. i stand on the first amendment, the second amendment and all that. if you don't like it, they are planes and trains and jets going to other countries if you don't like it here. host: for those who voted for other candidates in this election cycle, in illinois. hello. caller: thank you for taking my call. i appreciate c-span and the opportunity to give my opinion. i would like to say the following. i don't think it matters with harris or trump no more than it did for the clintons or the bushes or obama. i think the american people really need to take a good look at the beer -- in the mere.
9:16 am
the factory -- mirror. the fact we have -- the attempt to overthrow pakistan, bolivia, it has been going on for decades. the fact that we are as a people responsible for the thousands of children and women being killed is such demonic, almost satanic hunger that represent a country that i'm ashamed of and i'm a 72-year-old retired military officer. 90% service connected disabled. i am ashamed of this country. i am ashamed of the vitriol discussion between the peoples. the parties that are corrupt. not just by money but the
9:17 am
morality of us as a people. it is so shameful to me. the only recourse i have, which is what the previous caller said, is god willing i will be leaving the country next year. i don't know anything other than god have mercy on this country. god have mercy on the people. on till there is some type of moral and spiritual cleansing, i voted for dr. cornell west, the only moral honest person i have seen. i just hope -- it won't happen in my lifetime but i hope to god we can stop the killing. we talk about peace. host: ted in minnesota. a supporter of vice president harris. caller: yes. i would like to bring up the fact that these are not
9:18 am
intuitions or false statements. the facts about donald trump. he's been a convicted rapist. host: only convicted of sexual abuse. caller: ok. sexual abuse and 27 other women too. i want to say it is really a sad day in america when you have someone that is a tax invader that has been found guilty of over $450 million stealing from our country. people call him a patriot. i think this country is going to have a very rude awakening. i feel bad for some of these people in this country that are going to be thrown out of it. i feel that we -- trump keeps bringing of the fact that we are going to drill for oil and stuff. we produce more oil now that anyone in the world.
9:19 am
i don't know where that's coming from. i would like to say that you reap what you sow. please god be with us. host: a supporter of the president-elect. from indiana, sean. caller: how is it going? host: go ahead. caller: i want to say -- first off, i voted for trump and voted for him back in 2020. i was surprised with the election results. looking at it last night. i thought it was going to be much closer. people and friends with on facebook, a diverse group of friends with beliefs. everything i watch on tv, on social media, i really thought it was going to be close. i'm kind of shocked. i'm happy that trump won, don't
9:20 am
get me wrong but i think harris politicized more of her social issues. a lot of indications of what people cared about was the economy. if she had focused more on that, maybe distance herself more from biden. she acted more like a team player. i support biden and everything but i feel like a lot of people did not really approve of him. i feel like those are some of her shortcomings. host: sean in indiana. this is mike from -- texting us. "i'm a college educated man. i voted for hilary and biden for no option but to vote for trump. she's had zero media exposure and he killed her." "this is embarrassing for the country. it is more than just having a leader who is a felony and

relatively stupid. he will make unitedtates -- heh" matthew in connecticut. i will try to be brief. the stein vote alone, the support of vladimir putin in the swing states would have made the difference in any one of those states of michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania and georgia. she ended up taking enough votes in each of them to deny harris what would have been a majority in each of those swing states. the role of putin and trump's likely collaboration with putin is on acceptable. his mixture of church and state deny status of other citizens. they have a right to sue for the violation of the rights just by talking about advocating christian dominion in the country and getting a lot of votes of people of christian faith by effectively bribing them with a promise of power they don't deserve in the constitution.

there is denying the rights of children to a future free of climate change. the supreme court actually recognized over 10 years ago climate science is a valid concern of the epa. by saying we will ignore climate science and expunge it under project 2025 from all government functions is basically an assault on nonvoting children and future generations. the electoral college, if they get the majority, the terrors voting by people in big states. probably five to 10 votes. a million and just california new york alone. they don't vote because i know it doesn't affect the outcome in presidential races. that makes the electoral college today on acceptable. at the time of our founding, the difference in ratio between the biggest and smallest state voting power was only one to four. it is now one to 40. you can have a citizen --

10:05 am
libertarians in general have the policy of smaller government, staying out of your pocketbook, and staying out of your bedroom. their message is pretty much, to some degree, like more conventional republicans. on the two candidates that actually had a chance to win, i couldn't vote for trump because of all of his rhetoric and insults of people and how he threw his own people under the bus when he was president. in the case of harris, my disappointment was the democrats anointed her after biden dropped out, or was forced out. i really believe he was forced out. that is one of the things. then she changed her positions on a lot of things just to be favorable to the elections. she should have picked schapiro

please, control the budget. host: a supporter of vice president harris. hi. caller: i woke up disheartened this morning because a convicted felon is at the helm of our nation now, opening doors to even wider sexism, racism, oppression, and disenfranchisement for many people of color. economic greed, corporate greed will raise our prices even more. medicare and medicaid, red lining and gentrification, all of those things we experience. i'm 74 years old and i know what it is to have gone through all of this type of craziness that we went through in the 1950's and the 1960's. oppressive rules for women, race hatred, legalized violence. those who voted for trump, vance, and musk, will come to regret their choice.
10:13 am
i hope that moving ahead we fight for morality, economic fairness, unity in our country. let that be top of the ticket and pray for america. host: it was in the early morning hours before the president-elect received enough electoral college votes to make him the president-elect. donald trump appeared before his supporters to talk about what he was seeing at the time. here is a portion of that from early today. [video clip] >> i want to thank you all very much. this is great. these are our friends. we have thousands of friends in this incredible movement. this is a movement like nobody has ever seen before. frankly, this was, i believe, the greatest political movement of all time. there has never been anything like this in this country. now, it is going to reach a new
10:14 am
level of importance, because we are going to help our country heal. help our country heal. we have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. we are going to fix our borders. we are going to fix everything about our country. we made history for a reason tonight. the reason is going to be just that. we overcame obstacles that nobody thought possible. it's now clear we have achieved the most incredible political -- look what happened. a political victory that our country has never seen before, nothing like this. i want to thank the american people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president.
10:15 am
and every citizen, i will fight for you, for your family and your future. every single day i will be fighting for you with every breath in my body. i will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous america that our children deserve and that you deserve. this will truly be the golden age of america. that is what we have. host: let's hear from shawn in florida, a supporter of the president-elect. you are up. go ahead. caller: it is a great day in america with this big victory. i would like to thank laura trump. the vitriol coming from the liberals i believe is caused by the fourth branch of government, you guys, pedro. i would be interested, pedro, who you voted for. who did you vote for? i'm just curious.
10:16 am
host: we want to say. anything else? caller: i'm just curious. we beat the communists. you shouldn't hate people who love america. trump loves america. they tortured him for how many years have they tortured him? since he came down the escalator. this country won. we will get our country back and people need to go to jail. host: arkansas, the line for those who supported others, voted for others this cycle. hello. caller: good morning. how are you? host: i'm fine. thank you. caller: i am an independent. i lost in this election, unfortunately. my candidate, he lost. we were supposed to have a sweep. i voted for peterson on ski. i knew he wasn't going to win, but out to vote on whose policies are the best. host: why did you think that his
10:17 am
policies were the best? caller: i like his economic policy. he believes in a distributed economic model that emphasizes local businesses, worker cooperatives, and broad property ownership. he also favors strong social programs and universal health care. host: was this someone on the ballot or did you have to write it in? caller: he was on the ballot in arkansas. host: what do you think about the idea that sometimes if you vote for an independent or third-party you are kind of wasting your vote? caller: my friends say that to me all the time. though there is an argument that can be made that since we live in a de facto two-party system you are forced to vote for one or the other that is the least worst, is a way to put it, but i don't believe that. i believe that mindset is why we are in the situation. host: jacob in arkansas on the
10:18 am
others line. you heard several of our caller who decided not to vote for the two main candidates. telling us why on the phone lines. (202) 748- 8922. support of the vice president, we will hear from ann in tennessee. you are next up. caller: a big joke. the american people have really been brainwashed by trump. he could have close to the border in 2020. he allowed 5000 refugees to come from central america. he didn't stop them. he didn't deport them. he didn't enforce the
10:19 am
illegal immigration policy. what he did was come he separated thousands of migrant children from their parents, and he put the refugees that were seeking asylum in the united states, he put them in cages. i saw it. he is heartless. he is a heartless man. he is for the rich. 83% of the $2 trillion tax cut, he gave it to the wealthiest corporations. the millionaires, the billionaires -- like that billionaire that was helping him get elected. there should be a limit on how much people are donating to a candidate. there should be a limit. host: ann in tennessee giving us
10:20 am
her thoughts. we are back to john mcardle. guest: watching members as they are on social media this morning in the wake of last night's election. senator marsha blackburn of tennesse t republican, sayi, r four years democrats trd to put donald trump behind bars, take him off state ballots, and convince the erican people that he was a fascist dictator. the american people have spoken and they are not buying it. on the idea of ttg him behind bars, there is this story from politico. say goodbye to trump's legal is the headline. sub headline on the story is the criminal candidate will now effectively be his own judge and jury. this is a couple of paragra trump's imminent return to the white house stters years of work by special counsel jack smith to convict trump for his attempt to subvert the 2020 election and the stockpile of his florida estate, and thet at
10:21 am
prosecution in georgia for his 2020 election plot, and allows trump to postpone any sentence on his new york conviction for covering up a hush money scheme in 2016. in short, political rights, the president-elect is his own judge and jury insulated from the criminal consequens at he might have faced without the legal force field of the oval office. host: willard joins us from wyoming. a supporter of president-elect. hello. caller: good morning. how are you. host: go ahead, please. caller: i am more curious. i've been listening for a really long time. i've noticed no one has said anything about the popular vote. it was before everyone was talking to go off of that, but no one is talking about that anymore. also, i want to say that i did vote for donald trump. i think that he is a unifier. i think we should all keep an
10:22 am
open mind and let's see what happens. i also want to say a prayer for the 320,000 children of illegal immigrants under the harris biden regime you could not find. maybe donald trump can help out. host: because you referenced it, are you a fan of the popular vote versus the electoral college? caller: no, sir. i'm not. but just like c-span before, a lot of people have said that they like the popular vote more. they would rather go that way. i don't agree with it, but i noticed no one is talking about that anymore. host: ask and you shall receive. here is john mcardle. guest: i will update that caller on the popular vote. donald trump is leading in the popular vote with 71,390,231 votes so far. 51% of the popular vote to
10:23 am
kamala harris's 47.5% of the popular vote. a reminder, donald trump might be able to surpass his 2020 vote total with votes still coming in. in 2020 he received 74 million votes in the popular vote. joe biden received 80 million votes in the 2020 election. the look torah votes, 270 to win. if donald trump sweeps the four remaining states that haven't been called yet, michigan, nevada, arizona, alaska, he would end up with 314 electoral votes. that would be more than the 304 electoral votes that he won with in 2016. in 2020 he got 232 electoral votes, losing to joe biden.
10:24 am
that is the update on the popular and electoral votes. host: john mcardle doing the homework for us this morning. thank you very much. let's hear it from georgia, a supporter of vice president harris in washington state. caller: i wanted to say that even though i voted for harris i'm looking to mention about the fact of trump being the president-elect. that if he is going to be a better representative of our country, he needs to eliminate having nepotism in the office with his daughter, his son-in-law, and various others who have done the same, like mcconnell with his wife being the transportation secretary. they need to eliminate all of the nepotism in office. also, with the corporate side of
10:25 am
things, they remove lobbyists that influence and have a greater say, a greater presence for making it being about the establishment rather than about the people. host: that is georgia in washington state. james from north carolina on our line for those who supported and voted for others. hello. caller: good morning. i would like to say briefly that with republicans getting the white house and taking over congress, the supreme court -- the country now has all it needs to establish its america apartheid system. since the statistical reports came out probably 10 years ago said the minority in 2040 they
10:26 am
said would become the majority. i knew then the folks in power now will burn this country to the ground before they give up power. now you have the people in place to do what you want to do. roe v. wade was a test case to see how folks would react when the supreme court took back somebody's rights. if you sit back, analyze, look what is going on, that is what it is all about. the folks in power maintaining and keeping power. host: connecticut, a supporter of president-elect. hello. caller: hello. host: go ahead. caller: thank you for having me on. i left the democratic party about a year ago to become independent. initially, i was excited about kennedy. i really championed a lot of the things that he talks about, especially as a mother and looking out for my children and
10:27 am
their future. i ended up voting for trump. a lot of it has to do with that, with their future. i see that all of the money is getting spent on wars and emigration. it makes me worried about what our future will be and our kids future will be. if you want to reach out and connect with us on the phone lines if you supported vice enharris on election day, 202-748, 8920. if you supported other candidates, call us at (202) 748-8922. you can always text us at (202) 748-8903. hn in california on the line for ose who supported andvod fo. hello. don inro, hello.
10:28 am
let's hear susan i, a supporter of vice president harris. caller: listening to your program, a few things. transgenders have seen to call in many times this morning. if you read trump's executive order for prisoners to have surgery change if it is needed, why, you can google that up and read it for yourself. we also have 21,000 in this country were products will be stamped "made in the usa." i know that for a fact because a family member is at one of those plants here in ohio. we also have 60,000 crumbling infrastructures being replaced, repaired, and whatnot, lead
10:29 am
water pipes, bridges, and so forth. we have lower drug costs. mike johnson is saying he is going to eliminate obamacare, and that will also take away your pre-existing elements -- host: all that said, why do you think vice president harris didn't win yesterday? caller: that is exactly what i'm wondering myself. i don't -- i don't think that she brought it forward enough about the plants being built and the infrastructure being built, replaced, or repaired. the pre-existing illness, we've known for a long time that it is in the obama care, and if you shut that down those with cancer, diabetes, children born defective, your insurance company can just throw you off,
10:30 am
and that's it. i lived through that era, and they did do that here just like they are doing with homes where there is flood, hurricanes, and whatnot. host: let me ask you one more question. what did you think about your long time senator sherrod brown losing his race yesterday? caller: i was deeply saddened by it. he has always stood behind the farmers and manufacturing. same with jon tester. i feel those two men were -- they just couldn't have been better in their jobs. bernie, you can read his court records. not paying his employees and destroying evidence, it is like one criminal after another in washington. but, who am i? host: sherrod brown, losing his race after that concluded
10:31 am
yesterday he went before his supporters with his concession speech. here is a portion. [video clip] >> we may be tempted to say hope was not enough. we may be tempted to second-guess ourselves and question whether we work hard enough or long enough. that is not our story tonight. we believe that all work has dignity. we always will. we believe in the power of people over corporate special interests. we always will. we believe if you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work. we always will. this is a disappointment but is not a failure. it will never be wrong to fight for organized labor. it will never be wrong to fight for the freedom of women to make your health care decisions. it will never be wrong, it will truly never be wrong to fight for civil rights and human rights.
10:32 am
[applause] tonight, i'm sad, but i'm never giving up, and neither is connie. >> no way. >> in the light of day, i know most of you are never giving up either. i will close the way that i close almost every speech in my career fighting for ohio, because the values i fight for have not changed, will never change. i wear a pin of a canary in a birdcage that was given to me. at the turn-of-the-century coal miners took the canary down into the minds with them to warn them of poisonous gas. the mine worker in those days that he didn't have a union strong enough or government secure enough to look out for him. he was on his own. over the last century and a half we have done so much to change that. all of those fights require going up against powerful special interests.
10:33 am
i think about the lesson that any union organizer knows. you don't -- they don't just give you fair wages, benefits. they don't just give it to you, you go out and take it. that's how progress is always worked in this country. wall street and corporations just didn't say one day, people work so hard out there we ought to have social security and an eight-hour day, time and a half, and a ban on child labor. no, we fought for it, demanded it, and got it. the big insurance did not all of a sudden say, a lot of people are sick, we ought to provide seniors health care. no, we fought for it, we demanded it, and we got medicare. in the 1960's, a bunch of segregationist southern senators didn't decide one day,
10:34 am
everyone not to be able to vote in this country. no. we fought for it, we demanded it, and we got voting rights. and then, last year, politicians did not all of a sudden say, you know, we really ought to stop interfering in women's personal health care decisions. of course not. we fought for abortion rights in ohio. we demanded it. we got it. all of those fights, progress did not happen on its own. we know there are so many fights still ahead. when i first came to the senate, like all new senators, they gave me one of those expensive fancy pieces of jewelry. you could walk around, i am a senator, i am a big deal. i wore it for a few days but it didn't feel right. i took it off and i put my canary pin back on. . i have worn that canary pin every day since.
10:35 am
tonight, nothing changes. i'm not taking off the pin, i'm not giving up on our fight for workers, and i know you won't either. host: senator sherrod brown from yesterday. cnbc reporting that the vice president is expected to call the president-elect to concede and will make a public concession speech. it's unclear when she is expected to speak publicly.the candidate has been working on a speech, according to one of her aides. cnbc saying president biden is expecting to call the former president to congratulate him and want to do the things that the former president didn't do when the president was elected in 2020, according to a white house official. that includes inviting him to the white house and attending his inauguration. a supporter of vice president harris. hi. caller: how are you doing? host: fine. go ahead, please. caller: i would just like to say that i'm not too thrilled that
10:36 am
trump is in office again, but it is what it is. we have to deal with it. let this be his last time that he can run for president, and that's it. i do hope that everything will be fine, but i also hope that people really need to leave god out of this. that is like saying god is in favor of republicans this time, and god is not in favor of democrats. god has no favorites. we are all his children. no bottom line. as far as the transgender stuff, men being in there with the girls' sports, i'm really hoping that is not true. i haven't seen any of it. i've heard about it. if that's the case, i don't agree with it. i also would say that if that is the case, girls also do not need
10:37 am
to be involved in boys' sports, you know. playing baseball, basketball, whatever sports with the boys. host: let's go to tim in illinois, a supporter of the president-elect. caller: good morning. thank you for taking my call. i voted for trump because of the policies. i think inflation has been going out of style and going crazy. i also think the border has been an issue for a lot of people, and i think the wars around the world and what is happening. i think that's the reason why a lot of people voted for trump. maybe some democrats and republicans both voted for those types of issues. it's my prayer that democrats -- i have some democrat friends -- and i just pray that all of us
10:38 am
get together and make this country a better place to live, and i hope for the best for this country in this world. host: teresa is in missouri. she did not vote. good morning. caller: good morning. first of all, i want to thank everyone that went out and talked to people and stuff like that. now, i'm not a fan of trump. never was, because of what he says. he nasty. he -- how can a criminal get into the white house? i don't get it. but i will always back up country. i lived in detroit. i was there when the riots broke out. i held my friend who was shot. he died in my arms.
10:39 am
we have to stop this fighting. we have to get together. this is the united states of america. we are the most best country in the world. host: ok, that is teresa in missouri. back to john mcardle. guest: pedro, and about 45 minutes we will take viewers on c-span to mitch mcconnell's press conference. republicans taking control of the senate and 119th congress. mr. mcconnell will not be the majority leader in the 119th congress. that is yet to be decided. a secret ballot among senate republicans for that. watch for news down the road. i wanted to give you an update on where the senate races stand. senate republicans have at least 52 seats in the 119th congress in the united states senate. there are six senate races to be
10:40 am
called. i remember in battleground states, republicans lead in two of them. democrats lead in three of them. let's run through where those up-to-date as we try to figure out how rublican majority will be in the 119th congress.and the keystone state of pennsylvania, dave mccormick, a republican, leaving senator bob casey by little less then 1%. 97% of the vote is in in michigan, in the open seat race, the democrat is leading against the republican mike rogers. it is .1% with 98% reporting. this one is expected to go a while longer. this one has been close all night long. in the case of wisconsin, it is senator tammy baldwi leading i abou percentage point over the republican. 49.4% to 48.5%.
10:41 am
it is almost all of the vote counted there, so far 99%. t state of arizona, it is ruben gallego, the democrat, leading w 50.4 percent agait kari lake with 47.6%. 40% of the vote is still to be counted in the grand canyon st then the silver state of nevada, sam brown the republican's barely leading, 47.3%. jacky rosen, 47.2%. there is still 16% of vote yet to be counted. that's the latest on the senate race. i did mention tamm baldwin in wisconn. i want to read her tweets she put out around 5:30 a.m. the voters have spoken and our campaign has won. wisconsinites chose someone who always puts them first, shows
10:42 am
up, listens, works with everyone to get the je. saying, i'm proud to go back to the senate to keep fighting for our workers, farmers, and families. the tw goes on from there. the associated press has not called this race. we showed you it is still very close. one more tweet we wanted to show you this moin this from sheldon whitehouse and the safely blue state of rhode island. sheldon whitehouse putting out tweet this morning just aer 10:00 a.m. from j.r.r. tolkien's lord of the rings series. this is the quote he puts out happened in my time, said frodo, and so do i said gandalf, but all we have to decide is what to do with the time given to us. steve is in new york, a supporter of vice president harris. caller: thank you for taking my

call. bill clinton would have won with his positions he took in the 1990's. he would have won in a landslide. universal health care, strong support for israel, having an antiwar stance, respect of the laws, basic common sense, all principles that the democrats had for the last 50, 60 years. since that really being rejected by my own party. instead, they focused on transgender issues, affirmative care for children, which is something that 90% of the people that i know think is abhorrent. men playing in women's sports. 90% of the people in my circle think that that is abhorrent. calling the other side nazis and
10:44 am
fascists constantly. if we focused on the issues that really affect 90% of people, universal health care, good conditions for working. i think that you heard the speech before. she talks about what the democrats brought to this country. eight hour workdays. a good living wage. none of these were talked about. it was all about, i am a female, i am black, things that people just can't relate to. at the end of the day they have to pay for their bills and they have to worry about a hospital bill or about college tuition. i'm expected to convince people that what matters is .1% of people can get surgeries for certain things that are not relatable to 99% of people. host: that is steve in new york.
10:45 am
back to john mcardle. guest: i wanted to drop in. we have been talking about the kamala harris concession speech. the timing on that according to reuters white house respondent, a tweet just a few minutes ago saying,, harris will deliver her concession sech around 6:00 p.m. eastern time.that is according to two sources. look for more exact timing today and for c-span's coverage of that event. host: let's hear from john in denton, texas, a supporter of the vice president. caller: good morning. thank you for taking my calls. thank you for being objective. host: you are on, sir. go ahead. caller: i have not seen and will never see a halo over donald trump's head.
10:46 am
the same goes for any president. god bless america. host: one of the news stories going into the election was the state of the race of the texas senate, featuring ted cruz against his challenger colin allred. ted cruz would ultimately win another term in the senate. after finding out that he went before his supporters to give a speech. here is a portion. [video clip] >> tonight, the people of texas have spoken. their message rings clear as a bell across our great state. texas will remain texas. [crowd chanting "ted"]
10:47 am
the media are ready to write off texas. chuck schumer poured in more than $100 million to our state. well, i want to say, thank you, chuck. i hope we win a few more senate seats tonight because you wasted so much money in texas. they deployed every trick, every lie, every hollywood celebrity they could find. chuck schumer tried to buy this senate seat like it was a piece of manhattan real estate. but he learned what we've always known. that texas is not for sale.
10:48 am
texans can't be bought. amen. over the last two years, i've traveled to every corner of this state, from the panhandle, to the valley, to far in west texas. we have traveled 9094 miles, 53 rallies all over the state of texas. i've worn out my boots. at times, my voice. certainly the patients of my incredible political team. who did an amazing job on this campaign and i think is the very best team in all the politics.
10:49 am
and what i found traveling the state of texas was worth every single mile, because everywhere i went i found something that gives me profound hope. common sense isn't dead. it is alive and well in texas. everywhere i went, i met texans who share a simple dream. to keep their families safe, to keep their freedoms secure, and they keep their texas values strong. tonight, we are witnessing incredible results, especially with hispanics across the state of texas. host: senator cruz mentioned celebrities. variety on its website has a piece looking at some of the reaction from actors in hollywood in light of yesterday, citing christina applegate saying, with trump's win
10:50 am
threatening reproductive rights that were already impacted when roe v. wade was overturned in 2022. give me reasons why, she wrote. my child is sobbing. if you disagree, please unfollow me. jamie lee curtis on instagram said, when the president-elect wins, a return to a more restrictive some fair draconian time. many minority groups and young people will be afraid, and trans people will be more afraid. we know many women will find it difficult to get the reproductive health care they deserve. for all those people there will be those who will help you, me included. it includes a comment from cardi b saying on instagram, i hate you all bad. in missoi,ho did not vote, willheim, hello. caller: i did not go out and vote, because i don't mind who
10:51 am
is in the white house. i don't mind who gets in there. that is all i wanted to say and that is all i have to say. host: why don't you mind it? caller: why don't i mind? because i wish i did. i wish i had did what that person had won. that is all i have to say for now. host: california, scott, a supporter of the vice president. hello. caller: this is scott. host: you are on. go ahead. caller: i wanted to say that i think that the voters of this country have failed this country miserably. not so much the trump voters that showed up, lest then were in 2020. it is the harris voters who did not decide to come out and support her. 66 million right now roughly. 81 million who came out for biden in 2020, those people are sitting home.
10:52 am
it is their responsibility what happens to this country in the next four years. shame on you. shame on you for turning your back on democracy. sherrod brown said it great. he said, there will never be a wrong time -- for the women's right to choose for themselves, to give seniors a life of dignity and the right to fight for organized labor.you gave all of that up by allowing fewer votes in this election to win from the same voters who voted in 2020. 4 million fewer so far than voted in 2020. you turned your back on democracy and what you get in the next four years is on you. host: jack in iowa, in davenport, a supporter of the president-elect. caller: two points. when i was learning about screenwriting, i heard woody allen saying, 85% of success
10:53 am
is showing up. i think everybody who voted should be applauded. it doesn't matter who whether you voted for someone who won or someone who lost. we are making democracy work by voting, showing up. number two is something a little more serious. there were a million people who supposedly died of covid. i suggest that there be an investigation, like the scranton commission which studied the kent state shootings or war on commission that studied the jfk assassination, or the challenger congressional commission. i think that we need to study what happened with covid. maybe that would be a good job for robert kennedy junior. host: jack in iowa.
10:54 am
reporting out of the des moines register out of iowa, they say renowned pollster ann said that she would be reviewing her data to determine why the des moines register mediacom days before the election produced results so far out of line with former president donald trump's resounding victory. he handily won iowa defeating kamala harris by 14 percentage points with more than 90% of the vote counted. a sharp contrast to ay's iowa poll that had harris leading by three points. the story says, tonight how we got where we are. she goes on to say, the poll findings we produced for the des moines register and mediacom did not match what the iowa electorate decided in the voting booth. i will be reviewing data from multiple sources with hopes of learning why that happened and i welcome with that process might teach me. new orleans, a supporter of vice president harris.
10:55 am
good morning. valerie in new orleans. i should have said that. caller: good morning. i feel it is a privilege to be an american today. i had hoped having a qualified person in vice president harris to represent us for our next president. that didn't happen. i do believe that there is a level of defeat and ignorance that exists among us americans. i believe what we think is true and when we push for what we want to believe is true, ignoring that you cannot make up what you believe the facts are because your person won or lost.
10:56 am
i have learned through this election that we must be engaged as americans on every level. just because we have republicans in office does not mean that the citizens and our communities and across our country need to go si t somewhere while the other side pushes their own agenda. i think we are all equal, we are all important, and we all can do our part on every level. there is an accountability as a citizen, an accountability and responsibility for our leaders to have character to be worthy of serving. i think when we do that to that degree, and we hold one another accountable, we will see the right kind of change. host: oklahoma city, oklahoma.
10:57 am
caller: i would like to thank you for having me on today. i will say this much. a lot of people think when trump was cutting that wall he was dividing countries. just open it up to anyone to come and get all the money they want for a. person to come through america they have to go through channels and becomea refugee of america . that is what america is about, being free, right to vote and everything. that is what we are able to do putting trump back in the office, like he should have been in the first place. host: that is dated in oklahoma. some of you are sending us through social media and texts. this is off of x saying, along being a fatally flawed candidate, harris made three moves that soccer campaign. sh'choose josh sapir over her running mate -- josh schapiro as her running

11:00 am
you can thank biden for that. president trump will take credit for it on day one without actually doing anything. jobs and wages are up. you have the biden administration to thank for this. just think if we are actually right with all the democratic rhetoric with tariffs and deportation, will you remember this moment for years from now and help take our country back? host: cody there in tennessee finishing off his fourth hour of the program. one more hour to go as we take your calls talking about and getting your input on the election that took place yesterday. donald j. trump slated to become the 47th president of the united states winning that electoral college vote yesterday and we are taking your calls on it. looks like you can reach us in this last hour.

11:04 am
and that is during this transition period, approaching trump taking office and when he takes office, if there should be mass demonstrations again laying in the streets and burning down cities. i live close to cleveland. even there people were downtown laying in the streets and a lot of businesses that had nothing to do with it were destroyed. not to mention what happened in minneapolis. how will -- if biden is still in office how will he approach it and how will trump approach it? those are questions but they are also really big determinations about where we are going because some of this back lash, january 6 and these things as terrible as they were, they shouldn't
11:05 am
have happened but there is this kind of backlash because of this behind behavior. host: that's james in ohio. let's hear from him tomorrow in north carolina who voted for other candidates in this cycle. go ahead. caller: i voted for jackson sherman because personally i feel that we have a system in which our parties are owned by corporations. trump and kamala serve the same master. it's unlikely that either of them will be different or that either of them care about the american people. but i don't believe that they do. i believe they care about serving themselves and the money in their pockets. in the one per centers.
11:06 am
, the wanted to nott fracking,'e started getting money from corporations. trump was offered money from corporations. if they really are so different and don't share each other's values then why do they take money from the same people. it is something a lot of people do not question and i think they think the trump is anti-establishment but he was raised in a wealthy family. never a day in his life has he had to go without shelter or wondered when he was getting his next meal. he is the definition of a nebo baby in that sense. he did things that help his bottom line and i believe everyone deserves equal opportunity and i also believe that us sending money bombing

countries isn't worth it. and it's not helping anything. host: let's hear from elton in north carolina, hello. caller: yes. voting for the republican party, i hoped that trump will clean out all of these democrats and republicans that jumps from one side to the other. stand with the true democrats and the true republicans and make america great again. host: a supporter of vice president harris, this is joe in florida. good morning you are next. caller: good morning america. i want to give a shout out to everybody. finally we stop the madness. this is gone on far too long.
11:08 am
host: let's hear from sophia. sophia in california a supporter of the president-elect. sophia from california hello? caller: yes i am here. thank you for taking my call. i'd like to state my opinion as to why i think kamala harris did not win. i think the reason she did not win is because she is not a true and honest democrat. if she were to be a true honest democrat when president biden called her and told her that he wants her to run, a true honest democrat would say thank you so much of this is such an honor, however i have not received even one vote. i am sure there are many other people on the democratic party who would want to run.
11:09 am
and we should have a primary and then let the people decide. that's where she went wrong. the other issue was her emphasis on abortion. and at the same time calling trump hit lehr. -- hitler. i grew up for hours drive from auschwitz. and hitler's built ovens and gas chambers and so on and watching trump for four years he never built anything like this with an intention to kill anybody. but however, when i look at the statistics as to how many innocent people got killed from 19 73 until today it is over 60 some million innocent people who
11:10 am
do not have a voice and cannot defend themselves. host: sophia there. let's hear from another supporter of the president-elect. oakdale, new york. hello. caller: good morning. i'm just turning my sound off here just give me 10 seconds here. there we go. just calling to remind the american voter that donald trump just drove a stake through a heart of the ravenous wolves of the democratic party that turned its back on america. mainly giving aid and comfort to all our country's enemies including afghanistan, the surrender of all of our military hardware, etc.. the strategic petroleum reserve, destroying her energy independence. i want to summarize that statement by reading your bible.
11:11 am
matthew seven chapter 15 through 17. beware of false prophets for they will clothe themselves in sheep clothing. host: massachusetts is next for the president-elect. this is paul. caller: i am a democrat and i actually voted for donald trump. i've never voted republican in my entire life and this was the first time actually did that. i'm just not thrilled with kamala harris of the democratic party. they should've picked a moderately josh shapiro. but the fact is most americans do not want these prices, they don't what illegal immigrants pouring over the border. they don't want biological men in women's sports paid that's just a fact. so like i said i've been a democrat my whole life but this election i had enough and i think the american people had enough as well because if you look at the popular vote. donald trump, a republican is
11:12 am
winning the popular vote right now. i just want that to set in. i like c-span, it is honest. it's way more honest than any mainstream media outlet out there. c-span is the only way to go so i encourage people watching to tell their friends to go on c-span and watch. thank you. host: we will continue on with calls about yesterday's election but first back to john mcardle. john: donald trump is leading 71 million 500000 and change to kamala harris's 66,000,007 hundred thousand. that's where that stands. here is where we stand on washington journal. in about 19 minutes we will take viewers to mitch mcconnell's press conference to talk about the future of the united states senate, republicans will be taking over the senate and the 119th congress. it's mcconnell will not be the leader of senate republicans, he is stepping down, it will be a new leader that will be elected
11:13 am
in about a week and a half by the republican congress that conference. we will see what happens there but the senate majority could continue to grow. there are five battlegrounds and races still outstanding. republicans leading into of them. , kratz leading in three of them. let me walk you through where those stand as we wait to see what the final number is for republicans and democrats in the united states senate. 97% of votes in in pennsylvania, dave mccormick is leading 49.1% to senator bob casey's 48.4%. there's a few votes left to be counted there it is still too close to call. a reminder the associated press making these calls, that's the call wet to you. in michigan in the wolverine state, elissa slon th open seatace is leading just barely 48.5% dirt public and rogs 48.4%.
11:14 am
98% of the vote has been counted in michigan. we will take you to wisconsin and tger ate, senator tammy baldwin is trying to hold onto her seat. she leads 49 point 4% eric coves 48 .5% with 99% of the in arizona, another open seat race. in arizona congressman ruben gallego hoping to become senator. the democrat 50.4nt, ri lake the republican, former republican gubernatorial candidate lifecycle with 47.7%. just 60% of the votes counted in arizona and finally in nevada where senator jacky rosen is trying to hold on her to her seat and it is an end against republican sam brown hurried the republican leadi 47.3%. an they're 16% of the vote yet to be counted there.

that's where the numbers are going to the associated press. let me tell you some of what candidates are saying on social media pages specifically tammy baldwin tweeng this out just afr 30 this morning saying the voters have spoken and our campaign has one, declarg victory in that race. one other social media between getting attention. max: of punch bowl news pointing us to alyssa slackens statement on the michigan senate race. the democrat they are saying her commune occasions director saying that with more results being counted in wayne county, alyssa has taken the lead of almost 20,000 votes. the margin will continue to grow. a confident elissa slotkin will elect michigan's elect senator. we will continue to see what happens. we will need to watch those

numbers for you. we will watch mitch mcconnell in a few moments. host: political reporting jason miller said earlier on the today show the present is less first order of business after he takes office will be executive actions to "get back to drilling" and reinstate border policies. "simply flip the switch and put those back in place like they were before." he said in an interview with the today show. let's talk to gary, a supporter of the president-elect. from california, go ahead. caller: high this is gary. host: you are on go ahead. caller: first of want to thank you. love c-span. listen. i'm new york jewish born democrat my whole life and family. most of us this year voted referendum, just yes no.

it was done, we were tired. the dnc needs to walk away from this and grasp reality. as an independent since 92 for a purpose and a reason to be honest with the politicians. every democrat i hear coming on here seems like they are making it still sounds like donald trump is this horrible nazi. he is not a nazi, everybody knows that and that's why the dems lost. harris could not stop creating a false personified image of someone we all watched for four years who wasn't anti-jewish or anti-black. i remember living in new york when he went to clinton's wedding. this was all rhetoric politics that the dnc needs to change because this was a vote of the people like myself to say enough. stop playing politics that identity politics. stop going far left. we do not want your socialism to that level and i hope that the

dnc walks away and says we are knocking to do this again. they really need a complete re-hall if the democrats or ever can is the any change. host: let's go to vivian in tennessee, supporter of the vice president. caller: good morning. they talk about an election that's rigged. this election is rigged. every time in tennessee we have elections machines go out in the black areas. and it's republicans who are hiring them illegals, people to work in their factories. i wish harris had gotten out there and set all of that. trump let people die with that covid. trump is the cause of the people coming over the border. people -- he's the one who killed that deal. he is a known rapist. how in the world can a man ever vote for him and a woman, a known rapist. and then he let people die from covid. i brother died from covid because of him.

congratulations to the magna party for a big red wave. i just have a couple of quotes and i will leave you be. the first quote, he wrote the pogo strip back in the day. and he said we have met the enemy and he is us. and the second quote is from lowell george. he said that i've been down but not like this before. cannot be around this kind of show no more. so peace out everyone. >> here is rick from west virginia, supporter of the president-elect. caller: i would just like to say that we need trump all the west virginia coal miners everywhere need more fossil fuels and that's what we need. thank you. caller: from grant in ellen --

host: from grant in illinois. supporter of the vice president. >> i'm an independent, i'm an election judge also. i voted for harrison tim walz for numerous reasons because of course the fact the trump is a felon, i am concerned about women's rights and the right to choose. projects 2025, book burning by the republicans, this whole christian nationalism movement. and one thing i would like to say is i've noticed in the last four years that biden's been president there's been a lot of infrastructure work done in northwestern illinois and iowa which wasn't the case when trump was president. i'm also wondering if trump does

11:25 am
us. it is time to unite and we are going to try. we have to try. it's got to happen successful bring us together. i've seen that. i saw that in the first term when we became more and more successful, people started coming together, success is going to bring us together and we are going to start putting america first purred we have to put our country first or we have to fix it. because together we can truly make america great again for all americans. so i want to just tell you what a great honor this is. i want to thank you and i will not let you down. america's future will be bigger and better, bolder, safer and stronger than it has ever been before. god bless you and god bless america. thank you very much. >> a lot of speeches from yesterday not only from the

11:30 am
gop and let me start by congratulating president trump. for what he's accomplished. it's not been done since grover cleveland. a while back. i also want to commend the trump campaign for running a sharper operation. susan wild -- deserves a lot of credit. they ran a spectacular race. with regards to the senate. you guys know how long i've been around. i had really hoped i would be able to hand over to my successor the majority. i've been the majority leader in the minority leader, the majority is a lot better.
11:31 am
and i think based on the fact that we haven't gotten all the results and we certainly already know we will be in the majority, we are hopeful that might actually grow some and then i want to give particular credit. i had a job at years back, i have never seen a better performance, he focused on getting quality candidates, making sure they actually got the nomination and as i said, to some criticism, candidate quality is absolutely essential. i also am proud of the job the senate leadership and its related groups did.
11:32 am
overall they were able to raise $425 million. and they made decisions to invest in all the right places. i will just run it down for you. they spent 29 million in maryland. 42 million in michigan. 60 million in montana. 3.3 million in nebraska. 12.8 million in nevada. 133 million in ohio. 82.7 million in pennsylvania. 30 million in wisconsin. and 3 million in west virginia. so clearly what they were doing over there is focusing on the
11:33 am
places where we had the best chance to win and i think the results pretty much prove they made a lot of wise decisions. so with that i will be happy to see what you want to talk about. >> senate republicans will have 54, maybe even 56 seats before this is done. you have been an advocate of maintaining the filibuster, the former president now the president-elect and what will you do outside of the leadership now to continue to advocate on that? >> i'm really glad you raised that. i should have covered that before. i think one of the most gratifying results of the senate becoming republican, the filibuster will stand. there won't be any new states
11:34 am
admitted that give a partisan advantage to the other side and we will quit beating up the supreme court every time we don't like a decision they make. so i think this shifting to a republican senate majority helps control the guardrails, keep people who wanted to change the rules in order to achieve something they think is worthwhile is not successful. and so, i think the filibuster is very secure. >> practically speaking what is having a 52 or 53 seat majority mean forgetting trump's agenda through the senate compared to a 50 or 51 seat and does this mean maybe you expand the agenda beyond the to -- trump tax cuts to explore other things and what might those be? >> we hear optimistic reports on
11:35 am
what may have happened in the house. obviously if you were going to legitimately work around the filibuster it would be through reconciliation. and so, i think we would the obviously more successful if we flip the house and the speaker put out a statement saying he is optimistic that that is the case. >> in march you blamed former president trump and his inner circle on the delay of the ukraine aid. are you confident that he is the best person to deter our adversaries? >> look, i'm here this morning to talk about the election. and i think i'm going to largely confine it to that. >> can you talk a little but about what you expect your role to be next year when you are not in leadership. i know you talked about foreign
11:36 am
policy you have jd vance is the vice president, you have diverging views from you on foreign policy. what is your role going to be over the next year. >> i am not going to speculate about what anybody else may be doing. i'm going to concentrate on defense and foreign policy. i think this is the most dangerous time since right before world war ii. our adversaries the north koreans, chinese and russians, iran and iraq proxies are talking to each other. they have one thing in common. they hate us. and they want to diminish our role in the world. it may seem old-fashioned to some that i'm still a reagan republican. who thinks that america's role in the world is absolutely indifferent -- indispensable. even if you are concerned, it
11:37 am
would be interesting to note that at the height of world war ii, 37% of our gross to mastic product was being spent on the war. 37% and we lost over 400,000 americans. the reagan buildup without a shot being fired was about 6% of gdp we are currently spending 2.7. we need to ramp up defense spending in order to prevent a direct conflict with our adversaries. it's a lot cheaper to prevent war than it is to have one. and so that's the focus i'm can i have for the next couple of years. >> do you plan to chair the appropriations subcommittee. >> i have not made a decision.
11:38 am
i am hoping as a former leader and i don't think it will have anything to do with committee assignments. >> are you anticipating any moves from the democrats in the lame-duck weeks coming up. >> we are can have to finish -- figure out how to finish up the year and that always involves conversation between senator schumer and myself as to how we wrap it up with those conversations haven't started yet. >> this is the week before this election your biography was released, your biography was released and it included a lot of sharp criticism of president trump. do you stand by those criticisms? >> i'm not here to do a book review this morning. >> next week your colleagues will choose the next majority leader, what should they take away from last night when they vote for the next leader?
11:39 am
>> what should your colleagues take from last night when they choose the next leader. >> candidate quality is essential. absolutely essential. and i think we had the best candidates everywhere. yesterday. >> you've been the majority leader in this situation with narrow majorities in the house and senate. how challenging do you think it will be to keep the republican party together if you end up with full control. >> you are a better student of history. since senators became popularly elected in 1914, my party has never had more than 55 democrats have had massive majority here in the 30's, during lbj, during barack obama.
11:40 am
so obviously the higher we get, the better. but this is not 60 votes which is what they had at the beginning of president obama. i think we did pretty well. with narrow majorities around the previous administration. three supreme court justices, 54 new circuit judges. comprehensive 30 year overdue tax reform. yes, it is harder but i think we were as adjustable floor with a narrow majority in a think we will be again. >> looking at the results from last night, what do you take away from the mood of the country where it is now and where it is headed and how it lands according to your expectations. >> if you are looking for a

what to bring up and i think if that's with the majority leader wants to do that's what we will do and will be voted on. >> republicans have control of the senate and the presidency, how do you expect some lame-duck priorities to be handled? appropriations and other lame-duck priorities to be handled? >> i think getting our work done which no matter who has been in the majority we've not been able to do that well for quite a while. deciding how to spend the discretionary money that we have is not a very big part of what we spend every year anymore. it's really important. and i would hope we would put a greater priority than the current senate has on doing the

this is a magnificent victory for the american people that will allow us to make america great again. [applause] and in addition to having won the battleground states of north carolina and these places. georgia, pennsylvania and wisconsin, we are now winning in michigan, arizona, nevada and alaska which would result in us carrying at least 315 electoral votes. but it is much easier doing what the networks did or whoever called it because there was no other path. there was no other path to victory. we also have won the popular vote, that was great.
11:53 am
[applause] >> thank you. thank you very much. winning the popular vote was very nice. a great feeling of love. with a great feeling of love in this very large room. with unbelievable people standing by my side, these people have been incredible. they made the journey with me and we are going to make you very happy, we are to make you very proud of your vote. i hope that you can look back someday and say that was one of the truly important moments of my life when i voted for this group of people beyond the president. this group of great people.

america has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. we have taken back control of the senate. wow [applause] . [applause] >> and the senate races in montana, nevada, texas, ohio, michigan, wisconsin, the great commonwealth of pennsylvania. were all won by the maga movement, they helped so much. [applause] >> and in those cases every one of them we worked with the senators, they were tough races. the number of victories in the senate was absolutely incredible and we did tele-rallies with each one of them and sometimes we did two or three and it was
