foremost the outcome of the heroism of our soldiers and how we stood firmly on our goals and interests, withstanding heavy pressures domestically and from the outside. it is an outcome of cooperation between israel and the outgoing biden administration and incoming trump administration. since he was elected, he was good lately committed to the release of the hostages. we spoke wednesday. he congratulated me on the agreement and emphasized that the first stage is a temporary cease-fire. this is what he said, a temporary cease-fire. the next stage is a big agreement. we are holding onto some significant assets so we can bring back all of the hostages and accomplish the goals of the war. president trump and president biden have provided full backing to israel's right to resume

fighting and combat if israel reaches the conclusion that the negotiations over the second stage are pointless. i appreciate that. i appreciate the decision of president trump to lift the remaining restrictions on the providing of essential munitions and weapons to the state of israel. if we need to resume combat, we will do so in new ways and with tremendous force. host: coming back to washington, d.c., where the city is preparing for the inauguration, today there will be a rally in preparation for the event and elon musk is scheduled to be among the speakers that will precede president-elect donald trump at his pre-inaugural rally in washington, d.c. according to a source familiar with the planning. that is in the article on nbc news. elon musk spent more than a

reporting in the hill follows up. the u.s. is split between excitement and fear over trump's return to the white house, according to a survey. this is a survey released tuesday. a new usa today poll found the incoming president has generated strong feelings right before his second foray into the oval office, with 31% of respondents saying they felt excited about him being commander-in-chief again while another 31% said they were afraid. president biden took questions from reporters this week on the incoming trump administration as well as his role in the cease-fire beginning in also. -- gaza. [video clip] >> the implementation of this deal will be on the next administration. how do you see the future and how much credit do you give to the trump team for this deal? trump is taking credit for it.
7:11 am
>> you know, this is the exact framework of the deal i proposed back in may, exact. and we got the world to endorse it. secondly, it is american support for israel that helps them badly weaken hamas and his backers and create conditions for this deal. thirdly, i knew this deal would have to be in cemented -- implement -- implement by the next team. -- >> how many americans will be released? >> the exact detail of how many people are being held and how many bodies will be returned to all be forthcoming.
7:12 am

7:14 am
call in, the first caller. he sounded like such a bitter man. he needs to get involved with something else. the last thing i want to say is biden pardoned 2500 people from jail this past week or so and he has dementia and should not have that authority. thank you for taking my call. host: mike is in ohio on our line for independence. good morning. >> good morning, america. kudos to the guy from arkansas, but i have an open mind and i was military police. so biden is taking credit for the cease-fire. that is kind of funny. he is going to take credit for everything on his way out the door. he has had four years to
7:15 am
accomplish this and what has he done? he has accomplished nothing. trump is coming in. he is going to clean that building out behind you and that building is going to start working for the people. we are tired of our money being flushed down the toilet. trump is going to come in. pam bondi will come in. there will be legal lawfare. i should know. i worked for the military of police -- the military police criminal division and corruption is widespread. tomorrow, we are going to turn the page back to america. our government is going to start working for we the people. host: mike mentioned pam bondi, who is president-elect trump's pick for attorney general. she was questioned about the existence of an enemies list and she was in some of her senate confirmation hearings and the idea of a list of people targeted for political retribution. here's the exchange.
7:16 am
[video clip] >> what you have hired someone into the florida attorney general's office who you knew had an enemies list? >> to cut to the chase, you are clearly talking about kash patel. i do not believe he has an enemies list. he made a quote on tv which i have not heard. i saw your sign or senator durbin's sign, but i know that kash patel has had 60 jury trials as a public defender, as a prosecutor. he has great experience in the intel department, department of defense. i have known kash patel and i believe he is the right person at this time for this job. you will have the ability to question mr. patel. >> i'm questioning you about whether you will enforce an enemies list he announced on television. >> there will never be an enemies list in the department

of justice. host: mark is in philadelphia, pennsylvania on our line for democrats. caller: i would like to say about the incoming trump administration i am in my mid-70's. i go back to eisenhower, a real republican, a real man of conviction and integrity. now look where the republican party is going to. look how far it has fallen. i have never had a sense of dread in my 70 plus years, a sense of dread of this incoming administration and it is just -- i am dumbfounded by this. but i have to say that -- i want to say one thing to all these working men and women out here that are singing trump's praises now. let's see the tune you will be
7:18 am
singing at the end of his second term in 2028. i guarantee they are going to be singing the blues because trump is coming right at them. apparently they do not know that. he is already talking about taking away medicaid expansion in the states that have expanded medicaid. a lot of trump voters and supporters are on medicaid expansion under obamacare. he is going to take away the only affordable health care they have ever known and their spouses and children and they voted for him. i do not know what to say except i am just totally and utterly depressed for the next four years for this country. have a good day. host: fred is in maryland on our line for republicans. caller: good morning. i can see that trumped arrangement syndrome -- trump
7:19 am
derangement syndrome is still alive and strong. you are 70 years old and you have not figured out what is going on? host: it is a little hard to hear you. i want to make sure you're speaking directly into her phone. >> i am. 14 interviews joe biden has done. trump has done 24. he has had plenty of time. four years. you democrats thought he was sharp as ever. all the racist remarks he has made and he has never been held accountable. president trump finally got accountability. you cannot keep blaming trump for anything. these cities failed because of black violence and democrat politicians. he has nothing to do with it.
7:20 am
we are under constant tax-and-spend policies. they are taking the money and spending it. we do not even know what is going on. now we finally have a chance for accountability and the caller from ohio said it best. we finally got a president for all the people, not just pushing an agenda that nobody agrees with. we are finally getting back to what america stands for, opportunity for everybody. the affirmative action, federal workers who work from home and never show up and you are on hold on the phone waiting for them to answer, they are making you wait while they are making their coffee and doing their projects. that is going to end. start looking for a job because accountability is here. host: next is patrick in oregon on our line for independents.
7:21 am
caller: i like to have you look up how many homeless schoolchildren are in the united states today and how many homeless schoolchildren are going to be in united states four years from now. i am 82 years old. i do not hear anything. host: there's a delay between what you see on your tv and us, but go ahead. >> i think the united states lost its moral compass. and i hope everything goes well. as far as the middle east, they are killing their own cousins. it does not make sense. talk about the shining city on the hill. it is time we got back to our moral compass. that is all i wanted to say. host: the best numbers i was able to find quickly for the first part of your question on
7:22 am
the number of students in u.s. public schools experiencing homelessness is 1.4 million. this is according to schoolhouse connection. public schools identified nearly one point 4 million students experiencing homelessness in the 2022-2023 school year, a 14% increase from the previous school year, nearly making up for the drop in homelessness -- homeless student enrollment during school closures during the pandemic. many states at this point are reporting higher numbers in the 2023-2024 school year. brenda is in pennsylvania on our line for democratss. >> caller: i wanted to talk about donald trump keeps saying he had this landslide victory and has a mandate when the fact is he won by default. 6 million democrat voters sent home this election because
7:23 am
kamala harris got 6 million less votes than joe biden in 2020. so donald trump actually won by default. if you want to talk about a landslide victory and mandate, in 2008 president obama won by 10 million votes and he got a 362 electoral college votes, so that is a landslide victory mandate. to address the trump supporter the keeps talking about trump derangement syndrome, the people that attacked the capitol and january 6, the people that try to hang mike pence, their own republican vice president, a christian, god-fearing man, they did this at the behest of trump. they are the ones that have trump derangement syndrome.
7:24 am
thank you. host: a story in the new york times points to a poll finding support for trump's policies exceed support for trump himself. a poll found the public is sympathetic to his plans to deport migrants and reduce america's presence overseas, going on to say many americans who otherwise dislike president elect donald trump share his bleak assessment of the country's problems and support some of his most contentious prescriptions to fix them, according to a new poll from the new york times. a little more than half the country expresses some desire to see mr. trump follow through with his harshest threat to deal with illegal immigration, deporting everyone living in the united states without authorization. here is a bit more of those numbers. which of the following comes closest to your opinion about our nation's political system, even if none are exactly right?
7:25 am
59% of u.s. adults say it has been broken for decades. 29% say it has been broken for the last few years. 9% say it is not broken, with similar numbers between democrats and republicans. 57% of democrats say it has been broken for years, 63% of republicans say it has been broken for years. alexander is in new jersey on our line for independents. caller: i am about to cross into pennsylvania on my way to the inauguration this morning. host: what do you think of the fact that it has been moved indoors? caller: i think it is a smart move. you do not want people falling on ice and old senators and heads of state getting sick and god for bid something would happen.
7:26 am
i think it is probably a little disappointing for people like me who actually scored a ticket from a congressman. i was lucky enough to get one, but i think it was the wise move also in light of what happened on january 6 it is just better to not have the conditions for any potential trouble, so the cold i think is a blessing in disguise. host: are you worried at the inauguration had been held outside we would see a repeat of january 6? caller: no, but you never know. it could be something. i think any time you get a crowd that big politically charged, i am not sure who was on before that lady saying that january
7:27 am
sixers had trump derangement. a very small crust of those people that day were loony maga people. the majority of what you call maga simply want to make america great. it is the again part that drives people mad because they see it as an indictment of democrats, politics, obama, and maybe both parties. trump has been critical of both parties. i want to say that biden is leaving at 38% approval rating, which is the longest in -- lowest in certainly modern american history. you can fact check on that. you know trump's policies are
7:28 am
actually rather popular, so i hypothesize the reason for the disconnect has a lot to do with how people consume their news and just -- host: i think you may be going through a tunnel. are you still with us? i think we have lost alexander, who is driving on his way to the inauguration in washington, d.c. let's go to david in texas on our line for republicans. good morning. caller: first think i want to address mandates. trump got the popular vote and his popularity, although higher than it has ever been, does not represent what you call a mandate by vote, but from the other hand his policies are
7:29 am
where his mandate is. he has people in favor of deportation and economic policies are very popular. that is the mandate. the popularity of him personally having nine years of 90% plus negative press coverage and all the other stuff that went along with that -- he has a personal popularity about 40%, but that will change now that social media will not be against him with government censorship. one other thing i would like to mention is all this talk about taxes. if not the most prominent economist, in 1817 -- i studied the economy for years. this guy david ricardo realized and wrote about taxes on businesses are paid by consumers
7:30 am
, by people who buy their products. no company makes a profit until they pay all their taxes. it is only the money they have left over after all the costs involved in everything they do before they have a penny to pay an employee anything or do anything with that money. it is the prophet left over after that that is spread among shareholders and provides funding for business. the point is there is no such thing as a tax that the people are not paying. it is not possible. it is simple enough possible, so any taxes raised on business are simply more things passed along to increase costs of what they are selling or to decrease the amount they pay staff or anybody else. that is a simple fact of life. that is one of the laws of economics and as far as trump
7:31 am
syndrome that the other fellow was talking about -- one last thing because i know you are going to push a button on me. all the politicians, the new york attorney general, manhattan attorney general forget the -- i forget the third one, atlanta. they campaigned against trump to begin with. that was in their campaign but they were going to get trump. that is just like soviet russia under stalin. show me the man, i will find you the crime. if anybody is going to end up being prosecuted as a result of the activities that have gone on over the last eight or nine years since the russia hoax, it is going to come out in an investigation about what happened cut whether there was collusion among all the attorneys with the lawfare, which there's plenty of evidence that shows there was or other issues like that.
7:32 am
there will be an investigation of wrongdoing associated with something that happened. if there is investigation answered and people show up in the investigation, that is when they would be involved in the investigation and that is the way it is supposed to be done. that is not an enemies list. that is accountability and there's plenty to be had. the democrats line for four years about biden and the border. they lied about the economy. host: you were mentioning taxes earlier, corporate taxes and the upcoming debate over the extension of the tax cuts and jobs act. i wonder what you think about president-elect trump's plans regarding tariffs. caller: he engaged china. he is the first president whose administration engaged china in the trade war and the portrayed
7:33 am
act -- the trade laws and rules that america has function under have been harming us more every year. his tariffs are going to be used as leverage in negotiations. canada and mexico, 75% of their exports come to america. most countries of the world have a higher -- their economies depend on america. china does not have a consumer economy. they cannot possibly win a trade war against us. canada and mexico -- no way we would win a trade war. we get 17% of what we get from them through trade.
7:34 am
we have a huge consumer economy. 70% of our economy is consumer based. that is the strength of our economy and trump knows how to use it in negotiation. host: for the folks like alexander coming in as alexander mentioned, the arctic blast that is coming to washington and other parts of the united states has moved that ceremony endorse. here's a story in cnn. an arctic blast will give trump the coldest inauguration in 40 years. the coldest air of winter so far will blast into d.c. as president-elect donald trump stands up in front of the capital to take his oath of office. this is before they announced this was going to be moved indoors, but the temperature on inauguration day at noon when the president-elect swears and is expected to be in the low 20's, about 20 degrees before
7:35 am
normal. there are quite a few events that we will be covering here on c-span including today, a wreath-laying ceremony at arlington national cemetery on c-span, our free mobile video app, online at c-span.org, and later this afternoon president-elect donald trump will appear at a pre-inauguration make america great again rally to celebrate his victory in the 2024 election at the capital one arena in washington, d.c.. we will cover that live as well on c-span. back to her calls, christina's in north carolina on our line for democrats. caller: i am calling into say that it is a sad day that america is going to put in a treasonous, corrupt traitor. a treasonous traitor.
7:36 am
he is a criminal. he is a racist. the things that he says make america great again, it is a ku klux klan banner saying. america has never been great. it was built off the backs of slaves. america is going down the tube. donald trump has dementia and everybody covers it up. all the crazy stuff that he says, he don't pay his taxes yet he wants to bully every other country. there are states and police officers he has not paid for their services. he has lawsuits. he is a con artist. he is the man behind the curtain and the republicans could have brought an end to this. he was impeached twice and all he had to do was just sent him on his way. every time a woman is running
7:37 am
for office, you go and put the dumbest man in the position. donald trump is not worthy of this. if you was legit, why did the republicans have to steal and draw new maps? look at north carolina. they are changing maps and refusing to give the democrat their seat. republicans are corrupt and they have pedophiles. they have matt gaetz. donald trump was with jeffrey epstein. they say they are going to get rid of the swamp, but donald trump is the swamp monster and he is bringing in men and women. ms. bondi in florida was paid $25,000 not to -- to dismiss the case of the university, all the parents who wanted to sue donald trump for the university that went down. donald trump is not worthy of office. and people are brain-dead and
7:38 am
shows trump -- chose trump over eggs and groceries those bills would have changed. it was because of the supply chain. every time america suffers, it is because a republican is in office and it takes a democrat to fix it. stay strong, america. we are going to come back and god is going to move trump or we will have to suffer for four years. host: next is vincent in maryland on our line for independents. >> to the last caller, the very party you are talking about that you belong to and support enslaved my ancestors and your ancestors. it started in 1958. america being built on the backs of slaves, the very party you are a member of.
7:39 am
no person -- no black person in my view can have anything to do the democrats. vote independent. god bless you, mike. yesterday, there was a lady on -- host: do you have thoughts on trump's inauguration or the gaza cease-fire? caller: don't do that to me. not just you. when you want to get off of a topic about democrats or anything else, you slide in a different type of question. host: i am trying to you to talk of the topics we have for this hour, the gaza cease-fire and president-elect trump's inauguration. caller: what i'm about to say includes all of that. the lady yesterday stated it. you are doing what she said you folks do. very nice about it. i am going to get off now because i was insulted.
7:40 am
you try to fool me like you do to all of us when you do not want to talk about certain topics related to the topic. host: kim is in ohio on our line for republicans. >> good morning. i would like to say in north carolina everything -- biden. i do not know where she comes up with a name trump. everybody that thinks trump is going to run this country, i do not believe they were here in the last term. that is all i have to say. host: bert is in alabama on our line for democrats. good morning. caller: i have been listening to everybody going back and forth
7:41 am
with each other. can you hear me? host: yes. caller: i am not going to be like the guy that told you you was rude. i do not think you are rude, but let me say this. according to this cease fire thing, biden is -- has been trustworthy. he got his start and he is leaving it over to trump and that is what trump is supposed to do. let me say this about trump. i do not hate trump. the thing i dislike about him -- he don't want nobody to never tell him nothing. somebody has to tell they meant something. he don't know everything. as far as make america great again, i want all of you to know one thing. god is the one that made america great again. god is the one that made america great again and i wish trump
7:42 am
would go in and say, this thing he is talking about retribution, he always used that. you have to get over that. tone it down and get this country going. for biden, i and got no problem with biden. i think he did a good job. he really did do a good job. he is not going to get credit for a lot of things he did because you know trump is going to step up and say -- he already said the economy is doing good right now. you do not have but one president at a time. thank you for letting me. have a wonderful day. host: he was mentioning the gaza cease-fire. the u.n. says age trucks are entering the gaza strip as part of a surge under the hostage she's fire -- cease-fire deal. trucks carrying humanitarian aid
7:43 am
entered gaza after a cease-fire between israel and hamas it into effect. trucks of supplies started entering minutes after the cease-fire took effect. the interim chief of the aid agency says a massive effort has been underway over the past days from humanitarian partners to load and prepare to distribute aid across all of gaza. he says it is part of the deal that will also see hostages freed and palestinian prisoners released from israeli jails. russell is in michigan on our line for independents. good morning. caller: good morning. i want to thank you. i do not know how you do it, with people that are very emotional, but i wanted to thank you for your patience in allowing people to call in on
7:44 am
this platform. the countdown to the inauguration i think it is a beautiful day in the united states where you get to see the process of our republican style government or representative democracy in action. a lot of people have been frustrated and think that the government is ineffective. if you read the federalist papers, this is all by design. humans are emotional characters and by having the slow form of government we have it takes the emotion out of things and makes things go through a process. that is all by design. on the gaza cease-fire, i think it is a good thing. i think people in the u.s. are just frustrated our money is going to other countries and they want to see stuff fixed back home before we start talking -- taking care of everybody else. i hope you have a blessed day. host: there is a wall street
7:45 am
journal editorial talking about trump's win and the second chance he has in his second term in office, saying that he owes his remarkable comeback victory over kamala harris to his personal resilience and biden's failures, among other thingsn this article. the wall street journal editorial board says if mr. trump makes a priority of eking revenge against his opponents, he will squander political capital and quickly lose whatever goodwill his victory ea him, ditto i focuses on responding to every crit insts him. we r asking mr. trump to act with self-restraint and political grace is the triumph of hope over hard experience. john is in new jersey on our line for republicans. good morning. caller: good morning. i used to be a democrat. with everything going on, i became a republican because the democrat party is not for the

minority. you always ask people to be on-topic, but it seems like when it is black rage you let them continue and continue and continue. even though it is totally off-topic and i have seen it a lot with you especially when it comes to that anger. i ask that you stay on topic. when it comes to black, you go off-topic and let them go on and on. that is not with this country is about and you should not let this be sidetracked like that. maybe that is your view also. host: robert is in arizona on our line for democrats. caller: hello. i am going to talk about the
7:47 am
inauguration. i am going to be watching it and taking notes because a friend of mine from st. louis who sold his business and spends about half the time in florida had three points that i had to write down because i thought they were a little bizarre. he believes since the majority of illegal immigrants as he called them are catholic that trump. the invasion of catholic church members invading the united states. he also wants to have the tax of church property removed after he believes that trump will talk with the pope and making a deal that if he does not support trump's immigration that he will stop the tax exemption for catholic properties and the third thing he believes is ice will start invading catholic
7:48 am
churches on sunday because the majority of immigrants are catholics and he believes this is a catholic invasion, so the man -- that is the main reason i am watching the inauguration and speech. i want to see if any of those particular three points, among others, are on the list. this guy is a real conservative, but i do not agree with him. i thought that is a new twist i had not thought of. but it has to do with immigration and the majority of immigrants are catholic. i looked that up, and that is true, so i will be watching. thank you very much. host: the washington post and other news outlets have been calling trump's plans or announced plans to do what he has called the largest immigration raid in u.s. history, some of the latest
