uper packs are. they use that money to create vicious ads without even the minimal accountability required of campaign attack ads. one of the most vocal critics
8:22 pm
russ feingold. he joins me presently. the anger over citizen's united was visible as citizens marched at the supreme court to stay a ruling by montana's supreme court which upheld montana's ban on spending in election eggs. justice ginsburg saw this as an opportunity to review the high ruling writing: >> joining me now former senator feingold and obama national co chair and author. senator, good to see you sir. >> good to see you.
8:23 pm
>> keith, good to see you. >> is there any other way to beat citizens united besides utilizing the super money you can raise by citizen's united in order to elect people who can overturn it. >> you don't need to raise super pack money. i made it very clear that the president is in great position and because it looks like he's a little more on the side of the average person. this only undercuts that. i made it clear to the obama people that i would publicly criticize this decision. what it comes down to, i've got two choice, sit in the back yard and have a nice cigar and have somebody tell me who won the election because it doesn't matter. the other choice is to actually fight for the guy who will appoint supreme court justice who at least possibly overturn this thing. i have a sneaking suspicion that the people that the republicans would appoint wouldn't even consider overturning it. that's the whole ballgame. that's it. we've got to overturn this
8:24 pm
thing. it requires one justice to have a different attitude. >> if that's the hole ballgame, aren't all the resources necessary to you to win that ballgame, if suddenly one team in baseball were permitted four strikes, would you say you're only going to take three strikes? >> if you believe that the only resources that a politician has is money then you're right but i don't. i think the resources you have are people, a message and understanding that one side is on the side of most people in this country and the other side isn't. the sad thing is resources have become equal with money. i unilaterally disarmed in 2008. it was the message that we weren't part of that system that allowed us to prevail even though it was close. i really don't think it's a good idea to say well, we're going to become part of this system and we'll change it later because it's kind of hard to believe. >> this is not intended,
8:25 pm
although it will sound like a compliment to you and the president, bottled be described as exceptional candidates under those circumstances. every other method other than replacing current members of the supreme court and for all we know they are going to live to be 120 all other methods for overturning involve democratic legislators or democratic senate or house and all the resources brought to bear against democrats and liberals are overwhelming. how do you not allow that part of the team to take the resources that are made available to them by this heinous citizens united decision? >> because it's wrong. it often doesn't work, because people catch on to the corruption of it and third it's the result you get. if democratic candidates at all levels across the country get
8:26 pm
elected by this system, you know what you're going to get? the same kind of corrupt policy we got from both rums and departments before the soft money system was shut down. they brought us the consolidation of the media which has been devastating trade agreements that shipped our jobs overseas. democrats might win but you'll get corporate democrats. you won't get somebody fighting for the average citizen. >> what do you do about this reality in the gop primary, 19 donors have accounted for $47 million in contributions nearly all of it to super packs. there is a body of belief that this election is not going to become an auction, it is an auction right now. it certainly is an auction on the republican side, but there is a practical possibility with enough money with the republicans could run a dead kodiak bear against president
8:27 pm
obama an conceivably win because of the money they can spend attacking obama and convince people the bear was descended from on high. >> if you believe money has that much ability to completely destroy people's common sense then you're right. i don't believe that. i believe it's a situation where we have to put the genie back in the bottle. president obama is a great candidate, a great record. he doesn't need to raise hundreds of millions of dollars from this kind of money and system and that i think is a much better approach both from a policy point of view and politically. >> how does it work, though, practically if you're the great opponent of this and you are the co chair of his campaign and it has in fact changed positions and in january that super pack raised $59,000 and they're a part of everything else, their pride is hurt by the fact that they raised $59,000? it seems to be the definition of an artist. >> what are you going to do? sit there and say you know, i'm
8:28 pm
not going to help the president i'm not going to try to persuade them to stay away from this, not going to try to persuade them this is the worst thing that is happening. this is the one real at the same time on what he's doing right now. i want to be involved in a campaign where i say we don't need to do this. i'm going to campaign for the president staying away from this stuff and make it clear that i believe the president will do the right thing about this with regard to the supreme court. >> obama campaign national co chair, author of while america sleeps, former senator russ feingold. pleasure to see you in person. >> next time we'll talk about international policy and while america sleeps, the book. >> and a good book it is. thank you for your time. >> the greatest short piece of political videotape of the year, the man who voted for wisconsin's voter i.d. law is on
8:29 pm
i just got the popular girls from the local middle school to follow me around. ew. seriously? so gross. ew. seriously? that is so gross. ew. seriously? dude that is so totally gross. so gross...i know. there's an easier way to save. geico. fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more.

8:32 pm
>> the governor of new jersey tries to hide the president of the united states. on this date in 1975 was born robert lopez the broadway genius with a musical called book of mormon. i've only gone to see it nine times. as i told one of his co creators, trey parker, i'm going to come back until i find something i like about it. hope birthday, robert lopez. time marches on! >> i begin with the russian presidential candidate rapping this is new jersey nets owner mikhail prokhorov. if you haven't seen this week's episode, yet spoiler alert. >> mikhail prokhorov on the microphone. >> yo, yo. >> miss name is mikhail. he is russian businessman, we
8:33 pm
are superstar on t.v. in russia! >> clearly his fellow new jersey nets owner did not help him with his rap though possibly the other owner did. jeremy lin probably could rap and poo gold. >> it's a cat and a rat sharing a nice bowl of milk. you'll notice every time the rat takes a turn he pulls the bowl toward him. clearly the whole thing is designed to lead the cat into some sort of trap. you can only assume it ends with the cat in a sewer surrounded by four ninja turtles trained by the rat. times marches on. >> to new jersey politics and the governor putting civil rights up for a vote is the newest voice in cable news is on the new news network. >>it is an independent
8:34 pm
progressive voice and i love that. >>jennifer granholm joins current tv. a former two term governor. >>people like somebody who's got a spine. >>determined to find solutions... >>we need government to ensure that people have freedom. >>driven to find the truth... >>what's really going on? >>fearless, independent and above all, politically direct.
8:35 pm
8:36 pm
>> this could not have been foreseen. in our third story within the "countdown," as the obama administration moves, new jerseys governor chris kind of theie defended his veto of same sex equality legislation insist be that's the president's viewpoint. >> my feet are firmly planted right next to president obama's. >> that's when washington post
8:37 pm
columnist jumped from off set to confront christie. >> the key difference between you and the president is while you support putting the civil rights of a minority up for a public referendum, the president is certainly not in favor of that. >> has he said that? i haven't heard him say that. >> governor christie. >> have you heard him say it? >> the president and justice department have made clear that they believe that the so-called you defense of marriage act is unconstitutional. >> first of all, i used to be a prosecutor. i don't know if you did too but i'm not going to be cross examined by you. >> i'd have fun trying. >> and you're going to lose. >> the president has vocally supported state by state, the actions of the administration
8:38 pm
speak louder than his words. the department of justice halted defending the so-called defense of marriage act in court saying it is unconstitutional to revoke federal benefits for same sex spouses. yesterday, a federal judge in san francisco became the first to agree he with that position. >> joined now by the founder and director of truth wins out. thanks for your time. >> sure. >> in how many ways is governor christie wrong in what he calls parallel views between himself and president obama. >> governor christie doesn't like teachers very much, it shows, he didn't do his homework. barack obama spoke out against proposition eight when running for president and expend the political capital in doing so. he was absolutely wrong in that. jonathan capart brought up that barack obama one year ago today told his justice department not to defend the defense of marriage act. when christie was questioned, he dodged the question, bullied the
8:39 pm
reporter and refused to oh answer the question. he was trying to pretend on one hand that he was brave and bold on the other hand running away from the question. they have very little in common. while barack obama is far prom perfect on our issues, he has done quite a bit. i mentioned doma and he also know about don't ask don't and he abolished that. there's one place i will agree on, that is barack obama should evolve already and the reason is because it allows people like christie to hide behind the president and we saw that again today. in the court case in california overturning proposition eight those that wanted to move it to the full ninth circuit, they had cited barack obama just like christie did as a reason why that it was not discriminatory to ban marriage equality in
8:40 pm
california. >> there's something about evolution and the people's opinions. the governor claims that the president is trying to have it both ways when he shouted on that set, this is the sort of political cow wardice we don't want. he has not let a personal opinion interfere with a policy decision which is the reverse of christie. >> christie looks at the polls showing 70% of people 18-30 right now support marriage equality. he sees the writing on the wall. just today maryland became the eighth state to approve same-sex marriage around it's very exciting. was, with the district of columbia, as well. he understands two things. number one the current republican party you can't get elected unless you're an extremist like rick sap or
8:41 pm
you're pretending like mitt romney. he also believes that if one of these guys gets the nomination, which they will, and there's a landslide, and the republican party has to change, that he's going to have to become more mainstream when he actually runs for president of the united states. so he's trying to appeal to the far right and then also trying to not look extreme by saying we can send this to the voters. many people are seeing through it and he certainly doesn't deserve any credit. anything, his position that we should actually vote on civil rights is a disgrace. >> ultimately, do you find something regulatory about the fact that christie was trying to hide behind the president and the case in san francisco sending it to the ninth hiding behind the president. is there a sense that their position is en route to becoming the horse and buggy of the 21st century and the only argument is the president who we
8:42 pm
all hate individually, we're in accord with him? >> it's really an act of cowice. they understand that it's irrational unconstitutional the defense of marriage act. we see what's going to happen. marriage equality is coming state by state right now and at one point hopefully at the federal level through the court. in the meantime, you have people like christie who are at odds with the people out there and really dodging the question as he did today on the air. i think he's dancing around the issue, and at the same time, he's doing that, he's trying to portray himself at resolute when he's anything but resolute. >> founder and director of truth wins out. we thank you kindly for your time. >> thank you. >> the state senator who fierce the girl scouts apologizes for that and beats it up again.
8:43 pm
>> and the greatest political
8:44 pm
8:45 pm
>> her peeps get all wee weed up about the movie condemning her. >> the breitbart theater, this gag really tied the room together. >> the greatest short political video ever recorded and this is on the new news network. >>welcome to the war room. >>jennifer granholm joins current tv. a former two-term governor. >>make your voice heard. >>detremined to find solutions. >>that partnership in order to invest in our country is critical. >>driven to find the truth. >>how did romney get his groove back? >>fearless, independent and above all, politically direct.
8:46 pm
>> s&p's seven remaining political friends no damn with my the movie about her is lice, damn lice and clothes she covets. next. because mispalin is only the tip of that iceberg. here are the nominees for the worst person in the world. the bronze, right wing blocker andy breitbart. it was announced that he will appear in the gop event in troy, michigan in case any occupy groups would like to know. make videotape recordings. which brings us to the seventh installment. yes, we'll include some of breitbart's classic meltdown before the onslaught by wall street protestors and cpac. after hispanic, all in an effort to drop in and see what condition his condition was in.
8:47 pm
>> you filthy, filthy murdering creeps! >> here you go larry. you see what happens? >> they can't even see as they're trying to create a utopia. >> you see what happens larry? >> all there for everybody to see in emails, videos. >> you see what happens larry? >> it's similar to what happened to the gothical pillar. >> this is a shock truth. >> you see what happens larry? >> see there is as hollywood conspiracy andy. do you see what happens andy? do you see what happens when you -- i'd like to apologize to john goodman and the cohen brothers and all drinkers of the whites russians. >> bob morris, republican of fort wayne is terrified of girl discussed. mr. morris has this afternoon
8:48 pm
written a long self serving statement where he apologizes to the girl scouts of america and indiana and their families and then bashes them again: >> morris goes to know cite a 2004 interview where the c.e.o. of the scouts partners with planned parent hood with regard to sex education: >> he also refers to a sister organization called the world association of girl guides and girl scouts, which openly promotes: >> because, of course,
8:49 pm
preventing unwanted pregnancies and helping unwe had mothers would reduce the number of republican candidates for the statehouse in indiana! >> amazingly that is the dumbest thing he wrote in his whole fake apology bum kin updates. there was a box of girl scout cookies at every table warning rod calendarized. >> the speaker mentioned he researched this on the internet. the speaker like poor senator morris is a republican! >> our winner was the unintended star of one of the greatest short political videos of all time. tuesday, as a vote is called in the assembly, you see him in the white shirt rise to cast one
8:50 pm
electronic vote on behalf of an absent colleague and then cavity another one and then sit down and then he spots the cameraman in the public gallery and he goes cold, right there. he gets cold in places you didn't know you could get cold. assembly room 76 reads only the members present in the assembly chamber may vote. he was asked if he broke that rule and acknowledged depends on how you interpret that rule. true, he was in the chamber and he voted three times. he says it's character assassination against him and his wife who is scott walker's lt. governor, also being recalled. the rest of his argument was everybody does it and why didn't that guy in the gallery take pictures of them. the punch line is he voted three separate times in the wisconsin state assembly voted for and was an ardent supporter of the bill that demands that all wisconsin voters present photo i.d.'s, even though they only want to
8:51 pm
vote once each! wisconsin state represent joe vote once, vote twice vote three times klefish today's worst person in the world!

8:53 pm
>> hbo will be televise be a movie about sarah palin. her camp isn't very happy about it. our number one story if you hated the book, you're going to hate the movie. in advance of the release of the film game change. current and former advisers have launched a preemptive attack on the film that they haven't seen. >> i'm really not too concerned about an hbo movie based on a
8:54 pm
false narrative when there are so many other things. i encourage others to find something else more productive to do. >> her defenders are happy to discuss the film, which they have not seen in a conference call yesterday. it was dismissed as: >> even though he hasn't seen it. >> tasked with tutoring sarah palin on foreign policy matters said to call this movie fiction gives fiction a bad name. even though he hasn't seen it. and meg stapleton: >> a trailer for a film she hasn't seen. their anger is based solely on a few unflattering clips. >> oh, my god what have we done? >> it wasn't my fault. i wasn't properly prepped.
8:55 pm
>> a complete numbers breakdown. >> they're telling me what to say, what to wear, how to talk. i am not your puppet. >> thank you for your time tonight. >> hey thank you so much for having me on. >> why is the palin camp making such a big deal out of this. why would you go to the trouble of having a scheduled group conference call? >> i feel they scheduled it to high five each other because they're so excited that she's back in the media why not? >> i was just going to say she's almost evaporated publicity wise outside the fox news bubble. are they protesting too much, using this as a means of reinvigorating her base and tapping into that one american, two american spirit that she relies on, anger? >> yeah, i mean, i feel like with her they're going to protest all they want. in the end they're just happy she's back. all these people are employed by
8:56 pm
her, and now that her daughter is on dancing with the stars and reality star is done, they're going to push her through the media. if it isn't a sex tape, let it be this. >> i mentioned earlier that it's robert lopez' birthday. there's a lesson here nobody seems to learn from generation to generation, book of mormon, it's a hit no waiting list, they haven't made a movie out of it yet. monty python's life of brian fringy film, catholics protested and it grossed $15 million largely because of the protest. why doesn't anybody learn that if you leaf it alone it might go away? >> i feel if you protest more, that film is going to be a hit now. people are going to end up watching h.b.o. more than they should. really in the end if you would let it silent, it would go away.
8:57 pm
her as a person for me in the media is the best thing to see. i would watch a thousand shows just with her. an interview with her and katie couric on a loop would be the best thing i've ever seen. >> if they had just left this alone, wouldn't it have died of its own weight? >> i didn't read the book, i'm so busy just reading the kardashian book, can't wait for another one. i believe these are two journalist and made a story out of it. they had an opportunity to correct facts, but it is one of those films. i'm pretty sure jack didn't fall in love with rose in the titanic, but we're going to see that unthreads, why not. >> there's no way to check what happened on the titanic. >> very valid point. >> thanks for your time tonight. >> t
