blocking any attempt to vote on allowing -- preventing student loans from doubling the rate of interest rate on student loans from doubling on july 1st, but mitch mcconnell said yesterday, no. no. no. no. we shouldn't debate this. >> it's ridiculous that we are having these kind of showboats on the floor when we could sit down and negotiate an outcome. >> they won't even vote on it. they won't even allow a vote on it. you know why mitch mcconnell won't allow the senate to vote on it because he knows it would pass. the overwhelming majority of senators. every democrat and i think enough republicans would be shamed into it would vote to keep student loan rights at the 3.4%. mcconnell knows he would lose that vote. >> that's why he won't even allow it. he can explain to the american people why he would prefer giving tax breaks to millionaires as opposed to

giving a student loan break to seven million american students. yet we are trying to find out now. we know mitt romney will be the nominee for sure. where does he stand on the various issues because we are not so sure coming out of the primary. for example where does he stand on immigration? for answers, we turn to our good friends at the center for american progress think progress justice editor and senior constitutional analyst, ian milhouser. ian, good morning. >> good morning. great to be here. >> thanks for joining us this morning. so what is mitt romney's stand on immigration? do we know? >> if you listen to the rnc yesterday, he is still deciding what his position is. >> that's what they said. the problem is that it's not true. >> wait. stop there. so on this important issue, the republican national committee

says he is still deciding? >> that is honest to god the word that came out of an rnc spokeswoman's mouth yesterday. they walked it back and pound to some of the very harsh conditions he held during the primary, and this is what's so troubling, far right electorate. they don't like immigrants. so romney has been pretty consistent in saying his policy, he wants to make life so miserable for undocumented immigrants they will have to leave. he called it self-deportation. so now in general, he has to appeal to latino voters. he is trying to etch-a-sketch it all around. >> that's one of the times. there were several times during the primarily in those debates.

he can't ignore or deny those previous statements. it's been pretty shar be. didn't he say about the dream act, he would ve tote it if he were president. >> he said he would veto the dream act. this is a bill for people who came over to the united states often as children. many of these people were three four, five years old. you are inclined to blame the 3-year-old child. >> exactly. they have lived in the united states almost their entire lives. if you serve in the military or get a college degree we will give you a path to united states citizenship. i don't understand why this is controversial. they are going to serve their country and become productive members of society. why say they are going to veto

it is really beyond me. >> mitt romney on the arizona igration law too, has been very supportive. hasn't he? >> you need to take it from russell pierce who was the who sponsored that bill or chris trobach who will authored that bill. pierce said that romney's policies are identical. tobach who the is tied to anti- anti-immigrant hate groups: ol martin luther king day. during the primary romney was sending a messages loud and clear and i understand why he may witch he had not' sent that message now that he is in the general election. you don't get to take it back. you know, dispute what romney may think, your path isn't on an

etch-a-sketch. he can't shake them away. >> that's true about every issue. i think what the r and c really meant is mitt romney is trying to decide how much he can wiggle on this issue without alienating the right-wingers that he won in the primary by being as extreme as he could on immigration. right? >> what he has done. >> go ahead. yeah. i think that's exactly right. romney has a fairly difficult map going into november. if you go back to 2000, 2004, all george bush really needs to do is hold ohio and florida because that was gore and terri's path to victory. they had to take ohio or florida. obama can win by taking ohio and florida or win by taking village and north carolina or he can win through a block of southwest states. it's there where the latino vote

is so important and romney is starting to realize, oh, god, i might have given these states away to obama so i need to break out the etch-a-sketch. >> one other issue, i think where romney is showing the etch-a-sketch is now having opposed, in writing in the "new york times," having opposed what joy bush and barack obama did to save the auto industry and now that they are back on their feet bigger and better than ever mitt romney is saying i should get the credit for that even though at the time, he said, let them die. >> i think the titles of the op-ed he wrote was "let detroit go bankrupt ". obama, and as you said george george w. bush did not let detroit gol bankrupt and now detroit is doing better than it has done in generations and all of the sudden romney wants the credit for what he opposed. >> unbelievable. thank you for your good work over there. we love the work i think

same-sex marriage even though they already had a law against it. that's right. north carolina has approved a constitutional amendment to practice discrimination true to the deep south. and tell me again. why are the democrats holding their convention in charlotte north carolina this summer? 0, man, we will get into that and a whole lot more here on today's full-court press, but first, we go out to los angeles. let's get the latest today's current tv news update from jacki schechner. hi, jacki. >> hi, bill. good morning, everyone. the u.s. postal service has come up with a plan to keep hundreds of branches of post offices open, and they are going to announce it at a press conference at 10:00 a.m. this morning. the washington post reports that that plan will include reducing hours of operation among other things. postal service is about $12,000,000,000 in debt to the u.s. treasury and the senate passing a bi-partisan bill last month that ex tended their line of credit today about $11,000,000,000 more. that came with stipulations as

in yemen. here is what we know let's talk about this and what it means in so many different -- for some many different dimensions. give them credit for that. so he agrees on this very, very dangerous mention. he goes to yemen. he contacts the al-qaeda in yemen who are now sort of the new afghanistan. >> that's where al-qaeda has moved. he has most of the operatives including aloki also killed by adrone strike. he gets in there he offers

himself up as a this famous bomb maker don't don't ask me to pronounce his name. he says he has developed a new kind of bomb that you wear in your clothing it's something that just chemicals, no metal, no nothing. this could get through thrower more sophisticated and easier to deton ate than the last one with the famous, again action underwear bomber. this guy agrees to do this they give him the bomb. he takes the bomb outside of

yemen with a plan that he is going to get on a flight for the united states on the anniversary of the it turns out he is a double agent. he turns the bomb over to saudi intel jess then hands it to the fbi. they are analyzing. and he briefs the cia and the cia is able to use his intelligence because he knows all of the major players. where they meet. he knows what time they meet. i am sure they changed their meeting places contract their movements -- they can track their movements and the cia.

this is a phenomenally incredible story and a phenomenally successful operation. and it tells me a couple of things trying to digest this and figure out what it means. false it means there are -- it's a good reminder. there are still a lot of people out there who hate us and are trying to do evil to us in any way thing. they know we are getting better at detecting them. they are at it. we can't forget that. secondly, it shows to me we have gotten a lot better at our intelligence. i mean whatever you -- whether you call it the war on terror or the war on al-qaeda or just afternoon attempt to protect

citizens here at home. we have gotten a lot better at it. we nipped this thing in the bud. we are to help you have to give the sawediz credit too. it says again man, the cia has done its job. they did a great zob a year ago in the raid on osama bin laden's compound and a great job on this one. but here is what gets me peter, imagine what a cool cucumber this guy is. i mean to go inside of al-qaeda and present yourself as a loyalist, as a brother and get them to accept you and trust you as the suicide bomber and all of the sudden time. >> it's incredible. >> totally incredible. it's right down to a john la la carre novel.

>> it's incredible that he could pull that off. >> yeah. and also, we had faith in him to be able to do something like that you know. insane. >> he could have turned out to be like a triple agent in a sense. right? >> right. they didn't detect it. right? you know it took somebody obviously from that part of the world speaking the language to go in and of course he had to stay in contact with his home base. right? but he gets the bomb and he is carrying it with him, carrying it out. now, we've got it. it's an incredible story. credit to our intelligence agents and the department of homeland security and the f.b.i. and anybody else who was involved in this. job well done for once saying something good.

news is about to make mainstream network. so, you know it's not that their purpose is to give all sides. the right-wing megaphone. >> during this primary campaign we saw that of course they are always part of the obama hate machine. right? >> yeah. >> mentioning obama anyway thing. >> yes. >> in the primary, we saw that both mitt romney -- i'm sorry. newt gingrich and rick santorum who used to be fox contributors until they were running for president, both of them complained that the network was favoring mitt romney. so as far as i know, in the

primary, for romney now? >> sure. >> chris christie for a time. >> yeah. all around. romney is the only one who has a chance so as a network we better start helping them out. romney was on hannity. he has been on hannity countless times. every time you turn around, there he is. >> certainly. look. fox news will be a reliable platform for mitt romney in this election cycle. >> as it was for sarah palin. >> roger ailes sees obama as a disaster and like the republican party, his top priority is making sure he doesn't have a second term. he has political operations. a lot of power. he is going to use it to do all he can to try to defeat president obama. yeah, you are right. he has things like sean hannity's show last night, romney goes on for an interview.

you know, it was real media interview on an actual news organization. so what's up with this whole let detroit fail and good morning wouldn't exist today? what's up with the foreign policy where he says russia is our top threat and we should stay in iraq and maybe we shouldn't have spent that money going after bin laden. with romney we could have a situation where gm was dead and bin laden was alive. you are not going to have any accountability for positions like that. it's, you know, gop talking .1 after another, and, you know, whether it's class warfare or obama. he is may be a comie. ignoring all of the job creation we have had over 26 consecutive months. obama has a long road back but we are moving forward. you are not going to hear that. you can even hear this ridiculous, absurd talking point originated by new york post over the weekend criticizing obama's

has a fair shot, a fair shake. >> look. >> that's why it's important to media matters. they are important as well. we are starting to build a messages machine that can compete and that's why people like me and stephanie miller and tom hartman and david sirota out in colorado and as i mentioned tom hart and randy rhodes are out there. we are starting to get a message machine going. they still have to -- they overwhelm us, i think, in that area. so my feeling is, we've got to get our message out, yes. i try to do that every day. also, when mitt romney says i deserve credit for the auto bail-out. >> sure. >> you have to point out that this joker opposed what george bush and barack obama were doing to help the auto industry and when he says now that i am not sure about where i stand on immigration, he doesn't point out that he said he would vitaed 0 the dream act -- veto the dream act. >> you have to do both and strongly stand for our principles, you know. and when you are talking about
