yeah. mitt romney, no man of the people. we will talk about mitt romney where his money and where he has parked it and a lot more on today's big full-court press. first, we go out to the los angeles to get the latest from lease a ferguson. hi, lease a. >> hi, bill. good morning. good morning, everyone. we are keeping an eye on a couple of things going on out of washington today. president obama will call for a one-year extension of the bush-era tax cuts for people making less than $250,000 a year. today's statement will draw -- excuse me -- a hard line between the president and house republicans who plan to vote this month to extend all of those bush era tax cuts permanently for both middle and upper income families. on friday, president obama called out mitt rom energy for planning to give $5 trillion worth of new tax breaks on top -- excuse me -- on top of the bush era tax cuts most of which would go to the wealthiest americans. and the house rules committee is holding an emergency meeting kicking off an unrealistic

attempt to repeal healthcare reform. they are planning to vote wednesday. panel members must have the access to the bill 24 hours. the texast has been on line and it is as you might expect. just for show. the repeal will not go any farther than the houses. mitt romney's campaign, as bill mentioned is padding it's wallet with an extra $3 million after a weekend of fundraising in the hamptons. romney and with reflon chairman ronald perlman and finally with david koch. it's possible that last appearance did romney more harm than good. >> that's what a group of protesters are hoping. about 200 demonstrators demonstrated outside the koch house and hired a plan to fly over ahead with romney has a koch problem. we are in chat right now. current.com/billpress.

creating jobs. made a lot of money creating jobs in america. he paid a lot of taxes and the reason we know he paid a lot of taxes, because he released many of his tax returns, he produced basically all of the information anybody ever wanted to know about how he acquired his wealth and what he did with it, but, of course, that romney is not mitt romney. that romney was his father george romney, who released 12 years of tax returns. there was another candidate named romney and this guy made a lot of money, also. but he made a lot of money not creating jobs in america. he made a lot of money killing jobs in america, and he made a lot of money shipping jobs offshore from america. and he didn't pay so much in taxes. we don't really know what he has paid over the years because he refused to release his tax returns action unlike his father. he released only one year, not

12 years and he won't tell us how much money he has and how much money he has stashed away and where he has it stashed away. all of this is coming out more and more. there is an article that sort of broke in the barrier, raised a lot of questions, in "vanity fair" this month and it talks about gray areas we don't know about mitt romney's money. we do know without knowing the details that mitt romney has a swiss bank -- he says he is worth $250 million. it looks like he is worth a lot lot more than that. we do know he is the first candidate with a swiss bank account, the first president with a tax shelter in the kayman islands. again, we don't know how much money is in it, where it comes from. and he is the first candidate for president with a tax haven,

a tax shelter in bermuda. yesterday, the obama campaign put out at video by -- this is ben lebolt, the press secretary for the obama campaign where he lies lays out what we do know the little we know, but what we do know now about mitt romney's money. >> here are some things we do know: mitt romney owned a shell corporation registered in bedroom useda. he keepsrmudaa. he keeps. he had a bank account in schwitzer land, mitt romney lately talking about getting tough on china invested 1 dotted $5 million there. the romney campaign said when we pointed out these simple facts we distorting reality and launching false stacks but they never said what was false. >> that's because they are true. >> can you imagine? by the way, peter, do you have a swiss bank account? >> no.

goiam.org. talking about mitt romney and the latest and the questions that have been raced by a big article in vanity fair picked up by the obama campaign over the weekend. mitt romney still not providing any answers to the fact that he's got a swiss bank account, why, and how much money is in it and where did it come from? number 2, he's got a tax shelter we know in the cayman islands. how much money is in it? where did that come from? number 3, another big tax shelter in bermuda. i don't know how much money in it or where does it come from why does he need a swiss bank account? i am telling you. you know as well as i. you don't have one. i don't have one. there is only one reason, maybe two. the real reason is not to pay u.s. taxes, to avoid paying u.s. taxes, unless you're laundering money involved in some criminal activity. i don't suspect that mitt romney

mentioning that as we talked it hasn't yet been announced. it's not officially yet on the president's schedule but it's reported this morning widely that the president will make an announcement in the rose garden sometime today where he will call for congress to extend the nother year for every american making under $250,000 a year. which, of course is the vast majority, the 99%. >> right. >> and those making over $250,000, their taxes would go would go back up. whether he can get it through congress or not, right, i guess, the question is: the political viability of this. >> right. and, you know, for the sake of your listeners i don't think there is any threat that tax cuts will not be extended for the 99%. i think those will make it through. the real political question is whether the g.o.p. says, no. we are going to hold on to this. we are going to make you suffer

until you releapt to extend all of them including for the 100%, for everyone. >> the president did the last time around. >> sure. >> he extended the bush tax cuts for another two years? >> right. >> this time, he says there is no way, no how. is this sort of like the student loan battle where republicans did same no. no. no. no. we are not going to extend those -- we are not going to keep the interest rates low unless you agree to cut this preventative healthcare funding and in the end, they caved this time and agreed to keep the student loan rate at 3.4%. so this is going to can another showdown. isn't it? >> right. this will be another game of chicken. we haven't really seen one in real bombastic fashion since last summer, the debt ceiling but this will be one because everybody has a stake in this. this is real money out of your poth. it's not some abstract program that they are talking about,

about, you know, some healthcare. this is hundreds of dollars coming out of your paycheck. so everyone has got a stake. i don't think the g.o.p. is going to relent as easily but i don't think there is threat taxes will go up on those making under 250. the question is whether they will go up or stay the same on those making over 250,000 a year. and one important point is it's not just that's the thresh shoulder. it's all of your income over 250 gets taxed, not under 250. does that make sense? >> in other words, taxes only go up on the percentage of your income which is above 250,000. >> correct. >> right? so anybody even those making more, get a tax break up to $250,000. >> correct. yes. >> all right. now we got it daniel stone newsweek daily beast 866-55-presses, president obama proposing a one-year extension. you are making less than $250,000 a year. you are part of the 99%.

at hell of a lot better than 106 which it hit in washington, d.c. daniel sthoen still in studio as a friend of bill. always good to have you hire. we are joined now to talk about the weather with the long-range department leader, paul pastelock. thanks for being with us. >> good morning, bill. it's great to be here. >> so what go,000 temperature records broken every day. what's going on? >> there are a few things for this year, shorter-term but overall, we have seen a very extreme pattern over the past few years, and there are scientists i was who say it is a

direct impact of global warning and i intend to agree with the second half. it's climate variability because i think we go through these phases that we get caught into with changing patterns that lock in over, you know, just not over a one--month period but they could lock in for about a knife year period. i think that would be one of the trends. >> is it true? i want to confirm with you that 2010 was the hottest year of temperatures ever recorded which was surpassed by 2011 and 2012 looks like it's even going to surpass that? is that true? >> well, right now i think up through may, globally i think we are the 11th warmest through may. haven't seen the latest statistics. i can't verify the exact stats. i know last year was the warmest, i believe, over the 12-month period. i know that over from may, from

may to may was the warmest period. from last may to this past may was one of the warmest, i think the warmest period for the country. so yes. we are in a warm phase. the global temperature, you know, over the last septembernt re has risen about. so yes, there is global warming taking place. a lot of these records that are being broken are back in the from the 1930s there was a lot of heat in 1930, 33, 34, 36 showing up a lot there is a lot of climate variability and it takes time getting out of them.

>> paul, dan stone here i wonder how much seasons influence each other. so we had a very warm winter here in washington and much of the east. now we are having a very warm summer. i wonder what we can expect then for the fall and the coming winter, if they are inter-related. >> i think so. let's go back and look at the winter they just had. we had a la nina. you believe a typically jetstream from the western rockics into the plains states and usually these colder air at times over the northern plains northern rockies. we didn't see a lot of that. we couldn't get any snow cover the winter can continue to stay mild they had record, you know, december temperatures there because there was no snow cover accumulating on the central prayers.

so these air masses were wimping out as they came out of the the northwest. now, it's having an effect on the spring and summer because those areas didn't have any snowpack hardly at all. a little late in the winter. now, we are dried out. we are looking at one of the worst corn crops in the midwest i think since the early 1970s. is it enhances the heat an the dryness is hard to break. pal, i am not a scientist so not fit to challenge you. there is global warming taking place but these temperatures are not necessarily related to global warming, if i understand you. in the 1930s, we weren't losing

the graze easier and ice caps seize were not getting warmer. when you put all of that together today, plus these temperatures, how can you deny this is a manifestation of global warming? >> i can't deny it totally. the atlantic ocean goes through a rollover affect. right now we are in a warm amo. that usually can bring a lot of drought weather to the plains states during that period of time. >> how many years would you have to see this pattern where you would say i guess this is not just another cycle? >> more than three. >> that's what we have been looking at the extremes the last years. i would have to he see.

i would have to see if it is the marriage impact here. >> i wonder how far ahead you can forecast. >> he is the department leader of long-range gasting at accuweather. >> we have seen the past three years. we have that amount of data. what do you see coming up? what do you see the future looking like? >> i see us going through a different change it will take a little time here probably into the fall across the pacific what i do see happening here is a change where i think we will look at september and october specifically being continuously mild through the midwest, tennessee valley into the northeast and not a lot for

alaska missouri and i will know. i think the pattern stays there but i think there is a change. the jet stream will change a little bit different from last year where i think we start to see more and more moisture coming up by january and february, up the eastern seaboard and, you know, when you get the split -- when you go into an he will nino, a lot of times you haveel nino, a lot of times you have the southern branch is usually typically a little stronger, hard to say six, 7 months out in advance. you are going to get bigger storms and you would have the potential for bigger snow storms. last year, we didn't have that. >> paul pasteloch, the senior immediate roth at accuweather. follow their reporting and learn a lot more about them than we have time for here at accuweather, accu-c-c-ua-c-c-u, agent accuweather.com. it will seems that we do see a lot more storm activity and a lot more serious, like tornados where we didn't see tornados and

the tornado season starting, you know, sooner more destrustive patterns and couple that with the hurricanes another storm systems around the globe. do you see -- do you have account for any of that because of climate changes? global warming? >> i don't mean to interrupt. sorry. but, it's one of those things. we had that forecast based on transitions transitions. we look at past years and what happens cocking out of la nina into a neutral stage in the springtime period, and usually, what we see is a lagging jet that's very strong coming out of northern -- out of western canada and usually can signify early september ear season and we had severe weather prediction in late january and february back in the late summer. now, that can happen. that has happened. and i think that you owe got theo

look back. things are seen on television and internet and those things. i don't want to take that some of these things have been very strong. you know, you have to look at the last several years here with cat written a, the devastation there, the tornado outbreak last april in the south, not this past april. the april before. >> right. >> you know, it's just, you know these things have happened if you go back and track. there have been outbreaks that go back there. so, you know, we get into these variability patterns and changes in a take place in our pattern and if it's the transition that takes place that's worse, el el nino to la nina. >> final question i have and dan, to round things up here i

seen a map of the sglufrnings, the states that are experiencing record temperatures, let's say usually in the 100 degree range. right? the entire freaking country is red it's a sea of red. have you ever seen that before? >> no. i think i was about 15 when i watched the weather on t.v., i saw that. i haven't seen it lately. it's been one of those things i haven't seen a lot, even where we are in the northeast, you know, i haven't seen at a time record heat until recent last couple of years, some really good records. >> one thing is i remember bigger snow storms in the northeast. i know the northeast, new england has been hit hard, but i

remember when i was 8, 9, 10 years old and when i started at accuweather 20 years ago, we had some big storms then too. snow storms. >> no. if you do some short range forecasting for us, when is it going to get cooler around here. >> i think places are changing now. the corn belt area is going to stay dry and will not be essentially hot but will get hot again. the south is going to get wet, the monsoon will kick in, in the rockics, moisture waking its way north. the northeast is starting to see cooldown. the extreme heat is going away. there is going to be another surge late next week. the west coast is staying kind of cool but along the coast but the interiors are heating up boise, all of the places in hide hoe are topping out over 100 degrees. they started out normal to cooler. now they are starting to heat up

but you reported with all of these wildfires and all of these drouth conditions and record temperatures, youghdrought conditions and record temperatures, you, you looked at the mainstream media and how much they have made any clink to glob warming. what did you found? >> we found that in all of the coverage from around about april when these wildfires out west started, that they have -- there has been a lot of coverage, both on television and in the print of these wildfires. >> right. >> but we found that on total, about 3% of all of the coverage mentioned any mention of climate change. the coverage of climate change is being left out of the coverage, of this satisfactoryvery serious issue affecting so many people. >> it was higher in print 6% in print 1.6 on television. >> exactly. >> they have less time on

parched everything is perfect for a tinderbox related to climate change. >> i think the media has some fear of, you know, we don't want to seem alarmist. >> why wouldn't they? you have a public that feels, you know, maybe like there is probably a lot of reasons contributing to this. >> that's true. there are a lot of reasons and nobody is saying that climate change is the only factor contributing to what's going on here but all of the science says that it is a factor and that humans, you and i, we are con contributing to problem, help to go cause it. for that reason, we should be reports of this in our media coverage. how is this happening in terms of the media landscape and echo chamber? i think what you are getting at is, what role is the right-wing media playing in this because what we see from the right-wing media is all kind of fear mongering, accuses scientists of cook can books to try to prove that there is climate change. >> right. >> when there is not. >> that's all been proven false.

i mean these are all trumped up false stacks. why? because we have a fossil fuel industry, multi-billion dollar fossil fuel industry paying to create think tanks and paying all kind of pun dits to get out there and say climate kwhaping? >> a hoaxchange? >> a hoax. that would be bad for their bottom linedits to get out there and say climate change? >> a hoax. that would be bad for their bottom line. >> they are afraid of using the phrase "climate change" or "global warming" because then they will get attacked by the right-wing and so, what they do is they just don't talk about it. >> exact. >> they don't mention it. >> we end up with the news coverage. >> the ig torn in minority rule the day by scaring the hell out of people. >> dangerous mainstream coverage. they say there is only 99% agreement on this. so maybe let's just not mention this at all.

lucky enough to make more than that should pay a higher rate of taxes on that portion of their income, which is over $250,000 a big challenge on the part of the president to congress a little bit later today. of course, we are still talking about the job numbers that came out friday and no better person to talk about them she honors us by coming in ever monday after the latest jobs reported our secretary of labor, hilda solis. >> good to see you. >> this announcement of the president on the tax break for those earning under $250,000, that's 99% of americans who deserve a tax break? >> it would be a tremendous stimulant because people would spend that money. typically they will purchase items, appliances or goods and things that they put off and that would help to create jobs as well as stimulate small businesses and just keep the economy moving in the right direction.

course were you, 80,000 jobs created in june. you have to admit that's not necessarily good news? >> you know, bill, i have to tell you that it's allegation -- it's always new information the day that i see the actual report. so, i have to base my comments on what i have seen happening and when i see numbers that are above the line they are not negative, that shows me that we are adding jobs because all we have to do is look back three and a half years and we remember hemorrhaging well over 800,000 jobs. so you have to put it in perspective. in the last 6 months we have seen a million jobs created. a million and you don't hear that ringing true in any way in the media. i mean they are focused on just that one month and when you look at the big picture, president in two and a half years created 4.4 million private sector jobs. a lot of that we want into the automobile industry. a lot went into, as a result of the tax breaks that we did

receive, extension of other services and employment training programs that helped get people into jobs. we don't talk a lot about that. unfortunately, you don't hear enough about it. i know there are good things that the president has done to really put people back to work. but obviously, yeah, we have to do better. we have to do more. but we need the cooperation of congress. >> yeah. i want to get that in just a second. mat a am secretary, the last time you were in i remember wlaurp saying. i want to ask about it again that the average, when george w. bush was president the average job creation -- >> 11,000 jobs in that 8-year experience that we had with that president. sot when you look at that collectively, this president has had to undergo a recession, a recovery, and insurmountable opposition in the other party who didn't want to necessarily cooperate. we didn't get a lot of votes for the recovery act. >> three republican votes as i

recall. >> right. three. three out of hundreds. and that money went to help preserve and at the end. day, we saw bridges, different people found jobs, teachers firefighters that kept their jobs, healthcare workers. all of that helped to bo into the system. those people spend that money, too, by the way, when they earn those wages, they go out and spend it. it goes back in the community. >> i am glad to hear you say the 11,000 because i have quoted you often and i wanted to be sure i had the right number. the average created per month in the eight years of the george w. bush presidency was 11,000, which i think is important for everybody to keep in mind when you say, oh it was only 80,000. >> that's still... >> you have to keep in mind, too, that we had, you know, a war going on that was being, you know pretty much paid for through our credit. right? and then, also, you know, all of the other things and challenges that went on >> the financial institutions, the clamps that occurred and all of that. them the automobile industry. the president made some really

strong, good choices, hard choices. now, it's paying off. you see it. you see it in the numbers in terms of jobs being created in manufacturing. >> yeah. >> 100,000 jobs created alone in the last, you know 24 months. 500,000 jobs. we have not been at that level since about 1995, i believe. >> in manufacturing? >> manufacturing jobs. those are good-paying middle class jobs. >> manufacturing jobs coming back to the united states? >> being created here and stabilizing that industry. now we need to do more obviously. by insourcing, by bringing those gyps that we want to china, indiana, brazil, or mexico. bring them back home. >> the fact is there are people out there that were skilled but businesses are not hiring: so that's the problem. is that the case do you find? and if not, why not? >> i think there is allotted of things going on, bill, and one

see. >> their growing? >> that are growing. >> i think what i see is the healthcare industry. >> that's been growing for the last two and a half years. in fact, i say it's recession-proof. >> that's an area whether you are changing careers, you can start up in the ambulatory area, a lot of jobs that have been created there. people are living longer. they have choices. >> that's one area. the other one is actually engineering, science, technology. those are still the key areas. you don't have to have a 4-year degree but employers are looking for people who have at least a credential. you can get that at a community college. we are pushing that forward. the president has asked for a billion dollars to go into more training meeting up with industry and the community colleges to get the curriculum the employers want. >> do americans have the skills that american companies are looking for today? are we turning out enough people? >> i think we are in the node where we have to change quickly

want to get to in the future, and it's going to be coming in pieces. as a small business, to continue to build the courage in our entrepreneurs across america, we need to be able to define a vision that could work and fit with all of these changes that are happening. what kind of advice can you give us, madam? >> well, what i would say to you is that we are really trying to help small businesses whether it's through more opportunities for federal contracting, because that, obviously, is available. but, also, making sure that you have the necessary tools and investments and that you have capital and that there is appropriate small business administration loans. and that comes in different forms. if isn't just from that administration, from that particular agency. there is also opportunities for energy through the department of energy, but, also different commerce, also has a small business component. there is a lot out there so i wouldrel you go online as well. you know sba.gov and download some of that information. if you also may not be aware

that we give tax credits for hiring up people. so that can help you also, keep individuals who are currently on your payroll so you don't have to lay them off if they qualify for uihey can help you. or if you need new people brought in we can help you idea where the tax credits are and insentence vise young vets that need work experiences. i hear you. small business owners are the engine and growth of our country. it's not going to come exclusively from the federal government. we know that, but we want you to be successful especially minority entrepreneurs, and women-owned businesses. it's really important. >> there are tax breaks today for those who higher veterans? >> absolutely. >> i have seen the president a couple of times talk about that and tax breaks for those who provide healthcare to their employees? >> that's for the lower, your budget overall when that kicks in fullly and you woement have to have -- be saddled with that.
