american ambassador is killed in a brutal, senseless murder? well, you attack the president of the united states and accuse him of siding with the terrorists. sarah palin, no. mitt romney. how low can you go? man, that's going to dominate our talk this morning. first, let's take a little time out to get the latest, today's current news update from lisa ferguson joining us from los angeles. hi, lisa. early good morning to you. >> hey, bill, good morning, everyone. we are seeing more political fallout this morning after statements from mitt romney took aim at president obama during the attacks in libya and cairo. tuesday night, romney blamed president obama for sympathizing with the attackers and then he double downed on those claims again wednesday morning. take a look. >> the administration was wrong to stand by a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in egypt instead of condemning their actions.

>> romney is basing that off of a statement from the u.s. embassy in cairo saying it does not support the criticism of muslims' religious beliefs. not only was that statement never approved by washington, it was also issued four hours before the attacks in an effort to calm the situation down. president obama, in fact, did condemn the attacks and said he is shocked romney would play politics during a time the united states is still mourning the loss of four of its diplomats. romney is now seeing a big backlash from those statements, even from conservatives but a few are actually taking his side. former secretary of state henry kissinger says he can understand romney's severe reaction to the violence. jim demint called romney absolutely right on libya and senator jon kyl said the u.s. embassy's response is the same as blaming a rape victim and then asking them for an apology. more bill press is coming up live after the break. we're live in chat,

wine. >> bill: here we go again. thank you, dan. yes, indeed. a tragic situation in libya yesterday. it was on the anniversary of september 11th. that terrorists attacked us again not on american soil but no doubt about it. it's been not quite confirmed yet but the security experts are saying that this attack on our embassy in libya was not just a case of a mob that went out of control. and got out of hand. it was a terrorist attack planned against our embassy or consulate in libya and that the terrorists just took advantage of the mob that had been there to protest this video to launch their terrorist attack and to end up killing three american diplomats and the american ambassador to libya. ambassador chris stephens.

i was in the rose garden yesterday when president obama came out very solemn president obama with the secretary of state, hillary clinton to make their comments -- to make his comments. the secretary of state earlier, at the state department, had pointed out how tragic this was, particularly she was a good friend of chris stephens. he apparently -- i had never met him. wonderful, wonderful guy, served in the peace corps in morocco. spent most of his professional life as a diplomat in that region. loved that region. spoke the language. loved the people. they loved him. the irony of it was not lost on secretary of state hillary clinton. >> this is not easy. today, many americans are asking. indeed, i asked myself, "how could this happen"? how could this happen in a country we helped liberate in a

city we helped save from destruction. >> bill: indeed. how indeed could that have happened? chris stephens gave his life, lost his life trying to save others at our consulate, other americans and other workers at our consulate in libya. president obama, for his part yesterday, absolutely, totally condemned the violence and the killings. >> there is absolutely no justification to this type of senseless violence, none. >> bill: president obama, again, i was there in the rose garden yesterday. photos of the president and the first lady in the rose garden that i took yesterday are up on our web site. check them out at billpressshow.com. the president praised chris stephens by personally -- he also had gotten to know him. he praised those others who lost their lives and who served in such challenging times, in such challenging part of the world.

and said we will -- it was very interesting. pointed out that the libyan security forces fought alongside of american forces to repel the invaders and -- not protestors but the terrorists who were attacking the embassy and he said that we stand -- still continue to stand with libya and together with libya, we'll find out who did it and we'll go after them. >> we will work to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people. >> bill: what happened to president obama, when he says he will bring somebody to justice, that he means it. we also have drones already flying over libya helping to track down those people. what a contrast to the -- between the president's serious, solemn, appropriate remarks yesterday and mitt romney who was totally, totally off the

rails. i mean so -- we have to know the sequence of events. what happened first was there were some protestors that showed up at the egyptian embassy in cairo. protesting this crazy video made by a group of lunatic christians from southern california which these christians, muslim-hating christians who made this video, attacking prophet mohammed and displaying him as a child molester. now just think about the reaction some of us might have if muslims put out a video portraying jesus christ as a pervert and a child molester. at any rate, the embassy in egypt put out a statement -- our embassy in egypt, a statement not cleared by the white house by the way but still, what they said was "the embassy -- this is long before the attacks again, i want to make that point.

"the embassy of the united states in cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of muslims." this was before the protestors attacked the embassy in cairo. before the protestors and the terrorists attacked the embassy in libya. that statement just saying that this video was wrong. okay. this inflammatory video. and mitt romney rushes out with a statement where he accuses president obama of being behind the attacks and siding with the terrorists. this is mitt romney. >> romney: possibly the administration was wrong to stand by a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in egypt. instead of condemning their actions. it's never too early for the united states government to condemn attacks on americans and

to defend our values. >> bill: first, what's wrong with that is first that he shot from the lip, right. number one is the attacks hadn't even taken place yet. that statement by the embassy was just saying this video was wrong. we should not be making inflammatory videos like that. he is accusing president obama of standing with the people who are attacking our embassies when the attacks had not even occurred yet! and then yesterday morning, after it was clear that his timing was off and that one of our own, four of our own and an ambassador of the united states killed for the first time since 1979. did mitt romney say i'm sorry, i spoke too soon. no, he doubled down in jacksonville. >> romney: the white house distanced itself from the statement saying it wasn't cleared by washington. that reflects the mixed signals they're sending to the world. >> bill: there's no mixed signal here. not at all. president obama condemned the

violence. condemned the actions. vowed to take these people to justice. he acted right away and again, when we are under attack, when america is under attack, when terrorists are attacking the united states, it is a time to stand together. that's what democrats and republicans did after 9-11. that would have been like john kerry standing up on 9-11 and saying it was george bush's fault. he sent the planes in to the world trade center. he supports al-qaeda. he supports -- you didn't hear that. this is outrageous! on the part of mitt romney. i think it disqualifies him for being president of the united states. and i'll tell you one thing, president obama kept his cool but he was asked yesterday, happened to have an interview with "60 minutes" yesterday and steve croft asked him about mitt romney's comments and boy, here is obama as icy as you could be but really just leveling mitt romney. >> there's a broader lesson to be learned here and governor

time since apple has given us a real surprise with the new iphone. this is no different. this is a lot like the iphone 4s. it's got a lot of incremental improvements. it has 4g wireless which will basically make using the phone feel like it is next to wi-fi at all times. it has a new camera. it's got a slightly new case so it's made out of aluminum in the back rather than the extremely delicate glass that i've seen -- i'm sure you've seen shattered on multiple occasions. the most obvious change is that it has been elongated. it's not exactly a bigger phone, it is a taller phone. >> bill: that means a bigger screen? >> yeah. it is a four inch screen. the old screen was about 3.5 inches. normally when phones get larger,

like android, they get bigger in all dimensions. apple has kept the screen the exact same width which gives it taller. it gives it an unusual shape. it looks kind of long. it's unusual design for any phone and it certainly is an unusual design for the iphone which has kept a fairly similar design for five years now. >> bill: do we know what the retail price is going to be? >> yeah. it is going to be the same -- going to follow the same price structure since about 2008 and that's $200 for the 16 gigabyte version and $100 more for each new level of storage. >> bill: oh, i see. so okay, i'm trying to figure out how much i'm going to have to pay for this puppy when i get mine because i'm ready for one. and they go on sale the 25th, is that right? >> 21st, i believe. >> bill: 21st.

has something called 4g ltx which is a marketing term you've probably heard used a lot for other android phones which have had lgt for about a year now. what that essentially means is that when lgt is turned on, you'll have significantly faster internet speed when you're out and about. it is as if you're connected to wi-fi. you can instantly stream video, browsing is faster, streaming music will take a half second. that's a fairly big change. >> bill: so this is the first -- am i correct in thinking this is the first -- new iphone since steve jobs died, correct? this is their first one without him. >> yes. this is the first iphone since he pass -- first one to be introduced by his successors. >> bill: tim cook and the whole gang.

this morning but mitt romney for accusing president obama of actually siding with the terrorists in libya! unfortunately, it is too late for them. they're stuck with mitt romney. there is no return and exchange policy for political candidates. hey, we'll talk about that and a whole lot more here. first, let's take a little time out, get all of the latest with today's current news update. lisa ferguson's got it in los angeles. hi, lisa. good morning. >> hi, bill. good morning, everyone. we have breaking news this morning as protestors breach yet another u.s. embassy in the middle east. early this morning, demonstrators gathered outside the embassy in yemen's capital burning tires and some making it over the walls. security forces say order is now restored to the complex and no deaths are reported. this, of course, comes directly after the attacks in libya and the continued overnight protests in cairo. back here in the states, president obama is sticking to

his campaign schedule. in las vegas last night, he promised to bring justice to those who killed u.s. ambassador christopher stephens and three other american diplomats. today, mr. obama heads to another campaign event in golden, colorado. as the next two months unfold before the november election, and as the obama campaign works to keep pace with romney's high roller fund-raising, we're seeing the president rely more on celebrity donors and other big money contributors. next week, jay-z and beyonce are holding a multi-million dollar fund-raiser at jay-z's club in manhattan where 100 guests will pay $40,000 a pop. "the new york times" is reporting mr. obama's top bund letters raise at least $200 million as of the end of may. topping the list of lifetime donors is hollywood producer jeffrey katzenberg. between the 2008 election and this year's campaign, he brought in at least $6.6 million.
