he said you go to the hospital and it is paid for either by government, charity, or by the hospital. first of all no you get a bill. and jacki you and i were talking the other day, and sadly you would beg to differ based on personal experience. >> yeah, it's a horrible story. i have a friend who was 25 -- he just passed away a couple of weeks ago because he didn't have health insurance and got pneumonia and didn't know how sick he was, and ended up going to the doctor and it was too late. and he passed away. and beside the fact that we lost an incredible young man because he and i met on because he and i worked on the same campaign to fight for health care reform.

>> stephanie: yeah. it's a different thing when you have a personal story, and you read about this kind of rhetoric. 45,000 americans still die every year because they lack health insurance. >> people don't go to the doctor because it's too expensive. and it gets to the point where they get too sick, and by the time they get to the emergency room we know that is the place of last resort and they get there, and there is either nothing they can do, or they don't have the facilities to treat somebody in the capacity they need to be treated because the emergency has gotten too dire. losing ricky was really personal for me but i spent two years working on this campaign and you hear these personal stories day in and day out. >> stephanie: jacki one person every 12 minutes in america dies because they don't have

insurance. uninsured adults under 45 are at a higher health risk. this proposal would leave 72 million americans without health insurance. >> it's a rich man's perspective who has never had to struggle to figure out how to pay a bill or make ends meet and possibly take care of his kids if they get sick. it's just a total blindness when it comes to what every day americans in this country have to go through. >> stephanie: it's the same on every issue, isn't it when he says just shop for a cheaper school or ask your parents for money. like everybody's parents have enough money for them to start a business. you are right, it is a perspective on a guy who's father was a governor and ran a

car company, and went to cranbrook. >> there are a lot of people in this country who have empathy, a lot of very successful people who have made a lot of money who appreciate what it means to not have those sorts of resources. he is not one of those guys. >> stephanie: i made this point when i got to meet ethel kennedy a few weeks ago. and the calls said the kenendys had a lot of money, but they cared about people who didn't. >> yeah. senator kennedy was a health care reform advocate his whole career. ricky didn't have access to the kind of health insurance that he needed, and i think it was probably cost prohibitive because of all of the elements of the affordable care act haven't gone into place yet, and

i suspect that the subsidies in the insurance exchange would have been very helpful for him because he was freelancing. but these are the sorts of things -- and the other thing i should point out is that even though he is 25, you talk about being able to stay on your parent's plan, and his parent's are deceased. he didn't have access to his parent's plan. he wasn't able to do that. so there are a lot of people who do suffer because they don't have some of the resources and access that other people do. and if you want to be president of the united states you have to take about the 47% who need help. and mitt romney made it abundantly clear he doesn't. >> stephanie: yeah that's why that 47% videotape was so devastating because his policies reflect that. it doesn't matter that went on

the kid was genuinely moved by how much the president and biden's policies have helped him and his family. so the vice president wanted to meet him. the kid is crying and -- it is just one of those authentic moments like when that business owner hugged the president. >> it's like when the biker woman sat on joe biden's lap? these are real joe biden moments. he isn't icked out by the american public. >> stephanie: yeah, joe biden has this kid in a bear hug, and you can tell he is holding back tears as well. and here is mitt romney -- here is the contrast and the story that make me particularly sick about him talking about what a bonn he had with this navy seal that was just killed -- and the mother saying stop it you douche. stop talking about my son to
