>> bill: what do you say friends and neighbors. great to see you this morning. welcome to the "full court press" right here on current tv. we're coming to you live coast-to-coast all the way across this great country of ours from our studio here on capitol hill in washington, d.c. good to see you this wednesday morning, july 24. with lots to talk about president obama driving the agenda today, taking off shortly

for illinois and missouri where he'll give two major speeches on the economy. the president says forget all of this other stuff we have to get back to focus on what is the number one priority for this nation and that is the economy and jobs. tomorrow, he'll take the same message down to jacksonville. meanwhile, this erection update. yes, indeed. anthony weiner admits he's been at it again sexting with yet another woman since he left congress. in fact, he's done so within the last year but he insists he is going to stay in the race and his wife standing by his side said she accepts that and forgives him. anthony weiner, first asking the people of new york for a second chance now asking them for a third chance. and baby cambridge over across the pond, spent his first night
3:02 am
last night in a palace and on the public dole. we'll bring you up to date on all of that and a lot more here on current tv. >>excuse me? (vo) quick wit. >> and yes, president obama does smell like cookies and freedom. (vo) and above all, opinion and attitude. >> really?! this is the kind of stuff they say about something they just pulled freshly from their [bleep]. >> you know what those people are like. >> what could possibly go wrong in eight years of george bush? >> my producer just coughed up a hairball. >>sorry. >>just be grateful current tv doesn't come in "smell-o-vision" >> oh come on!
3:05 am
cenk off air alright in 15 minutes we're going to do the young turks! i think the number 1 thing than viewers like about the young turks is that were honest. they know that i'm not bsing them for some hidden party or the other. when the democrats are wrong, they know i'm going to be the first one to call them out. cenk on air>> what's unacceptable is how washington continues to screw the middle class over. cenk off air i don't want the middle class taking the brunt of the spending cuts and all the different programs that wind up hurting the middle class. cenk on air you got to go to the local level, the state level and we have to fight hard to make sure they can't buy our politics anymore. cenk off air and they can question if i'm right about that. but i think the audience gets that, i actually mean it. cenk on air 3 trillion dollars in spending cuts! narrator uniquely progressive and always topical the worlds largest online news show is on current tv. cenk off air
3:06 am

3:07 am
the "full court press" as we kick off three hours here of our morning town meeting to talk about the issues of the day. not only let you know what's going on but again to talk about it and get your comments and have a good conversation this morning. on all of the events of the day whether they're happening here in our nation's capital around the country or around the globe we're on top of it and you will soon be, too. you can weigh in several ways, of course by giving us a call at 1-866-55-press. by joining us on twitter at bpshow and on facebook at facebook.com/billpressshow. we want to hear from all of our friends on facebook. and you be part of the team. the team headed by peter ogborn and dan henning. good morning guys. >> good morning. >> bill: hey hey, alichia cruz with the phones. and cyprian bowlding as always,
3:08 am
keeping us look good on the video cam. well, as good as possible at any rate. >> doing what he can. he doesn't have a lot to work with. >> bill: he's cute, isn't he? i'm not talking about anthony weiner. i was talking about baby cambridge. he's cute. he slept through his debut yesterday. but prince william and princess kate, she is princess kate? >> duchess kate. the duke and duchess of cambridge. >> bill: walked out of the hospital about 7:00 last night with the baby in their arms. they talked to reporters and william said we're not sure of the name yet. but he's a good baby. >> he's a big boy. we're still working on a name. we'll have that as soon as we can. and then they hopped in the car and william drove them back to the palace.
3:09 am
>> every father remembers that drive home. from the birthing center or hospital. >> bill: pictures of them carrying him in the car seat, it is so familiar. >> i'm surprised it didn't take him a lot longer to get that car seat in. >> bill: i'll never forget driving mark home from the hospital in my little vw bug in san francisco. i was so nervous. >> scariest drive a father will ever make. >> i did not know he drove himself. i was genuinely surprised. >> bill: they usually don't. they're really trying to, heartfully project kind of these are the down-home royals. >> very interesting. >> bill: it is all relative. >> which one of their five castles did they go to? >> when they walk out with the sleeping baby, that false sense of security that newborn babies lull you into because you think of like oh, babies are screaming and carrying on but the first week or so, they sleep around
3:10 am
the clock. they sleep a lot and then all hell breaks loose. this isn't so bad. >> bill: isn't so bad after all. which one of the five castles as dan pointed out. as david letterman pointed out last night please respect their privacy. >> the young couple would like it if we all would have consideration and respect for their privacy. well, they're off to a good start, aren't they? [ laughter ] please respect their freeloading, can you do that, please? >> bill: oh, man there we go. john fuglesang will be along later here, host of "viewpoint" on current tv. our good friend, olivier knox from yahoo! news will be here as well as melanie sloan from citizens for responsibility and ethics in washington talking about the most corrupt governors in the country and that was a
3:11 am
tough decision because there are so many of them. but first... >> announcer: this is the "full court press." >> other headlines making news on this wednesday. captain wong, names an embarrassment for ktvu when they mistakenly aired them after the asiana crash. they don't want us to hear or see them anymore. they're claiming copyright violations to video and it's pulling off the internet wherever it finds video of that announcement. saying it is being consistent with their apology. it is their responsibility to minimize the thoughtless repetition of the video by others. >> bill: come on. that's like geraldo trying to bring down his naked tweet. once it's out there baby -- >> cat's out of the bag. >> bill: you can't bring it back. >> you can try. and you can claim copyright. it would take them so much time
3:12 am
and effort. >> bill: forget it. they do look silly by doing this. >> you mention geraldo rivera. he talked about his near naked selfy that he tweeted out. yesterday on his radio show, he said he was in a great mood early sunday morning after a good show on fox news saturday night. he said had a drink and said to himself, you know, i look pretty good for a 70-year-old. i gotta tweet this thing. since he's so old he thought people would cut him some slack and not take the photo seriously >> a drink? >> bill: let's have a couple more drinks, geraldo. >> johnny carson is going digital for the first time. you can now download videos of the legendary tonight show host from itunes for $15 a compilation of highlights from shows from the '60s to his retirement in 1992 and for $20 you can get 16 full tonight show episodes with of some his favorite guests including don rickles, jerry seinfeld, betty
3:13 am
white, jay leno and ellen degeneres. >> bill: he was a demonstrably funny guy on the spot, right? he had his writers too. but he was very funny. but to pay to watch old johnny carson stuff? talk about old stuff yeah, he's back. talk about selfies yeah, he's back. we're talking about anthony weiner. the question is we gave him a second chance. are you ready to give him a third chance? you know the number. 1-866-55-press. now, remember, i was one of the first ones, man when anthony weiner announced oh, no, we don't want him back again. i said the opposite. this is a good guy a great congressman. a real fighter for us. he was right on all of the issues. okay, he made a dumb ass mistake but he apologized for it. he resigned from congress. he has put in the last two years, trying to rebuild his
3:14 am
life and his marriage and his family. he's got a baby and he spent the last two years getting his stuff back together. and everybody deserves a second chance. mark sanford got one. bill clinton got one. so anthony weiner should get one, as well. and now, i don't know. no is the answer. no he doesn't deserve a third chance. it turns out he's nothing but a horn dog. he admits yesterday at this unbelievably painful news conference -- now, he had told us before there was going to be more stuff come out again. that's true. i really thought he meant stuff like still other stuff one other woman he was sending selfies to when he was back in congress. oh, no no, no, this is new stuff. this is stuff that came out within the last year. he's been at it again with a
3:15 am
22-year-old woman, who of course, you know, maybe she shouldn't have done it but duh what were you thinking? you knew she would. she turned the stuff over to this web site, dirty. he had to admit he was sexting with her. she's in chicago somewhere. he's not only showing himself but -- we haven't seen the photos yet, have we? >> no. >> bill: but we will. but he was not only sending the photos but he promised he could get her a job at politico. and this is like bill clinton promising monica he could get her a job in the pentagon. he promised he could set up a little love nest in chicago where he could go out there and they could have a little get together, shall we say or several in chicago. well, it came out yesterday at this news conference but anthony
3:16 am
weiner he said -- i told you so. >> i have said that other texts and photos were likely to come out and today they have. >> bill: but he insists oh, no, no no, this is all water under the bridge. all past history. >> we put it behind us. i put it behind me. frankly we're in a lot better place today or i would not have run for mayor. >> bill: he does admit, this is stuff that's happened since he's been out of congress. >> some of the things happen before my resignation. some of them happened after but the fact is that that was also the time that my wife and i were working through some things in our marriage. >> bill: we thought they had worked through those things in their marriage. by the way, anthony weiner was doing this under an alias. she knew who he was. and she knew he was a former congressman but just in case any of this got out, he was using the name carlos danger. so funny.
3:17 am
what does that mean? carlos danger. >> you couldn't write a funnier fake name. you really couldn't. >> bill: poor huma abba dean, beautiful woman his wife, deserves sainthood for what she's gone through. and for him to drag her out yesterday, i just thought was cruel but she did it. she stood by his side. and gazing up at him lovingly and then said yep i'm here with anthony all the way. >> i love him. i have forgiven him. i believe in him. and as we have said from the beginning, we are moving forward. >> bill: well, good for her but you know, i forgive him but i could never support him again. this is too much for me. how about you? 1-866-55-press. i say that for a couple of reasons. i don't think he deserves a third chance. number one i think this raises
3:18 am
serious questions about the man's judgment. i think he's got a real problem. i think voters of new york would have to think twice three times, four times five times about whether this is a guy they can trust. how could you trust this guy to make the right decisions? this is so obvious that he should not have been doing this. and secondly, i gotta say, there are other great candidates up there. we've talked to one of them on our show, bill de blasio who is the best from the liberal point of view, the best progressive in the race. bill thompson is another one. also a great progressive in the race. he would an fantastic mayor and so would christine quinn. i would have voted for anthony weiner frankly. i liked his style. i kind of like his combative political style but i think at this point the guy's got a serious problem and he ought to drop out of the race. he should drop out of the race and work on his marriage and his family and work on his sexual
3:19 am
aberration or whatever. or disease. >> it very well -- that's a good way to put it. it could be a disease. it is an addiction. an addiction to the power that comes with having these sorts of sexual relationships. he lost everything. >> bill: take his cell phone away. >> for god's sake, get a little flip phone man. just chill out. >> bill: take the camera app away. i'm tellin' ya. there he is. a big decision for the people of new york. but it is a big decision for all of us around the country. how we think about our elected officials and how far we're willing to bend or forgive when they do something so monumentally stupid. let's talk about it here on the "full court press" this wednesday morning july 24. >> announcer: this is the "bill press show."
3:20 am
3:22 am
3:23 am
political? a lot of my work happens by doing the things that i'm given to doing anyway, by staying in touch with everything that is going on politically and putting my own nuance on it. in reality it's not like they actually care. this is purely about political grandstanding. i've worn lots of hats, but i've always kept this going. i've been doing politics now for a dozen years. (vo) he's been called the epic politics man. he's michael shure and his arena is the war room. >> these republicans in congress that think the world ends at the atlantic ocean border and pacific ocean border. the bloggers and the people that are sort of compiling the best of the day. i do a lot of looking at those people as well. not only does senator rubio just care about rich people, but somehow he thinks raising the the middle class. but we do care about them right?
3:24 am
>> announcer: connect with the "bill press show" on twitter. follow us at bpshow and tweet using the hashtag watching bp. this is the "bill press show." >> bill: here we go. on a wednesday morning. july 24. we're talking about anthony weiner appearing at a news conference yesterday a very uncomfortable news conference anthony weiner said i told you there would be more stuff coming
3:25 am
up. guess what, it has come out and it happened since i resigned. in fact, it's happened in the last year that he's been sexting again and going beyond that, even overing to get a young woman a job and find an apartment where they could meet up in chicago. peter on the social media. >> you can join our conversation. >> bill: the question is whether or not we ought to just say oh, well, too bad. but we're still with you anthony all the way. no, i don't think so. >> join the show on twitter at bpshow and on facebook. couple of comments here from twitter where we're tweeting at bpshow. janet d. foster says although freaky, anthony weiner is ten times better than david vitter. we tend to sell out dems but republicans build a wall and ignore. beyond the oath says carlos danger would be a great band name. i agree with that.
3:26 am
and tracy burrage trying to figure out how to say this. she said she wanted to see his blank. he wanted to see her blank. one word, consensual. stop making more out of this. >> bill: look, i would feel better about it if he had just gone out and had an affair, right? but i just -- i think he -- i'm not trying to be too judgmental. i totally totally totally forgave the guy and willing to accept when he came out the first time and admitted what he had done. to tell the truth, i wouldn't have minded if he stayed in congress just apologize and stayed in congress but putting himself out there and saying i'm a new man and i've spent the last two years getting myself back together again and he was lying through his teeth. >> i think the other thing that is really important --
3:27 am
>> bill: at some point, you have to say enough's enough. >> where i come from is this isn't like a prudish oh, how dare he do this -- it is just he's so stupid on that front. he's so stupid. he lost everything professionally and less than a year ago, he was send, naughty pictures to women offering to get them jobs by using his privilege. it is just dumb. >> bill: look, i don't think david vitter should still be in the united states senate but at least he hasn't gone back to that. big difference between eliot spitzer and anthony weiner, you won't see eliot do this dumb stuff again. are we being too hard on anthony weiner? hi h.b. >> caller: anthony weiner is a moron. his wife is stupid. the public is stup phid they
3:28 am
vote for him. put somebody in the position that is willing to do the job. and do what the public needs him to do. >> bill: amen. that sums it up, doesn't it? >> caller: i love you guys, thank you. >> bill: h.b., have you seen the movie "fruitvale station." >> caller: yes. i live in oakland california. >> bill: i know you do. that's why i asked you about fruitvale station. what a powerful film. oh just what a tragic story about that young man oscar grant. h.b., great to hear from you. she sums it up, i just gotta tell you, there comes a time again, economy back to this. you've got christine quinn you've got bill thompson, bill de blasio, any one of them would make a great mayor of new york you know. we don't need anthony weiner. let's just let him work on his problems for awhile and then we can forget about carlos danger for awhile.
3:29 am
>> announcer: this is the "bill press show." if you believe in state's rights but still support the drug war you must be high. >> "viewpoint" digs deep into the issues of the day. >> do you think there is any chance we'll ever hear the president even say the word "carbon tax"? >> with an opened mind... >> has the time finally come for real immigration reform? >> ...and a distinctly satirical point of view. >> but you mentioned great leadership so i want to talk about donald rumsfeld. >> (laughter) >> cutting throught the clutter of today's top stories. >> this is the savior of the republican party? i mean really? >> ... with a unique perspective. >> teddy rosevelt was a weak asmatic kid who never played sports until he was a grown up. >> (laughter) >> ... and lots of fancy buzz words. >> family values, speding, liberty, economic freedom, hard-working moms, crushing if wayne lapierre can make up stuff that sounds logical while making no sense... hey, so can i. once again friends, this is live tv and sometimes these things
3:32 am
we have a big, big hour and the iq will go way up. (vo) current tv gets the conversation started weekdays at 9 eastern. >> i'm a slutty bob hope. the troops love me. tv and radio talk show host stephanie miller rounds out current's morning news block. you're welcome current tv audience for the visual candy. (vo) sharp tongue. >>excuse me? (vo) quick wit. >> and yes, president obama does smell like cookies and freedom. (vo) and above all, opinion and attitude. >> really?! this is the kind of stuff they say about something they just pulled freshly from their [bleep]. >> you know what those people are like. >> what could possibly go wrong in eight years of george bush? >> my producer just coughed up a hairball. >>sorry. doesn't come in "smell-o-vision" >> oh come on!
3:33 am
the sweatshirt is nice and all but i could use a golden lasso. (vo)only on current tv. >> announcer: this is the "bill press show." live on your radio and current tv. >> bill: all right. here we go. it's 33 minutes after the hour now on a wednesday morning. wednesday, july 24. so great to see you today. and this is the "full court press." we're brought to you today by the national education association. good men and women of the nea under president dennis van roekel creating great public schools for every student in america. you bet. you can find out more about

3:36 am
you all need to leave the man alone. let new york decide. if his wife is okay with what he did, the citizens might be as well. juliet robinson disagrees said he has already addressed these issues. his wife has forgiven him. time to move on. and karen says i say he should quit politics and work for oscar mayer. >> bill: he did. he drove the wiener mobile at one time. >> bet he's regretting that. at bpshow on twitter is where you can follow us. >> bill: look, again, i'm a very forgiving person, okay, the first time around, i was one of the first people in anthony weiner's corner saying yes, he should run for mayor and i would vote for him and yes, i thought he was going to win. i took him at his word that he was focusing on more important
3:37 am
things in his life and he had grown up. this is adolescent behavior and we expect more i think from somebody who's going to lead the number one city in this country. there are some other things going on. we want to bring you up to date on. well we found out more i think about the priorities of the republican party and how far they're willing to go when it comes to immigration reform. and whether, in fact, they have really turned the corner in terms of as they promised they were going to do, reaching out to latinos particularly, after getting shellaced in the last election by the latino vote and saying we want to show we're the all-inclusive party. their latest voice steve king, that nutty congressman
3:38 am
republican congressman from iowa he talked yesterday about what he thinks about those who might be here illegally and those who might be the subject of comprehensive immigration reform. >> we have to do something about the 11 million and some of them are valedictorians. my answer to that is by the way their parents brought them in. it wasn't their fault. it is true in some cases but they aren't all valedictorians, weren't all brought in by their parents. for everyone who is a valedictorian, there is another hundred where they weigh 130 pounds and calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling marijuana across the desert. they should be legalized with the same act. >> bill: can you believe it? you just heard an out and out racist. is anybody in the republican party going to stand up and call him what he is? where's john boehner? he's a member of the house. where's john boehner who says this guy doesn't speak for our
3:39 am
party. where's reince priebus today who's going to say this guy is a racist. we condemn him. we deplore the fact that he's still in the congress. and we hope the people of iowa send us somebody better next time around. why do they tolerate this guy? i mean everything he said, it is so wrong. where do you start? it is not even worth responding to. it is just a flat out -- for every one decent latino who deserves to become the citizen there are 100 who are drug runners basically is what he's saying. 75 pounds of marijuana. he doesn't know much about the marijuana trade. he really doesn't. >> right. 75 pounds of marijuana. >> bill: a pound is a lot. 75 pounds? yeah right. >> that's a good weekend at snoop's house.
3:40 am
i mean, it's insane. it's insane. for every one good student there are 100 he says, there are drug mules. >> bill: had a little fun at the briefing yesterday at the white house. jay carney said he was going to mix it up. bounce around and not start and spend all of his time on those big shots in the front row. he was going to bounce around and recognize some of us who are like in the fifth row and the number one that he did was me. i had a couple of questions for mr. carney on a personal level. >> bill? >> two personal questions. one, you served -- do you have any personal reflections on your time with helen thomas? >> you know, helen was a legend. i did covering the clinton white house and the george w. bush white house first term each, have an opportunity to work with her and you know, as
3:41 am
the president noted in his statement, we are all appreciative of her many years in that chair and her career. >> bill: she did great work covering the white house for ten different presidents starting with john f. kennedy. she had covered his presidential campaign when he got in the white house. upi said hey you've been with him throughout the campaign. why don't you cover him in the white house. the first woman to do so, first woman to sit in the front seat of the white house briefing room and she was still there when i started going to the white house, covering president obama maybe three or four years ago. and jay carney there, as he pointed out under two presidents with her. then you may have heard there is a new book out that's getting a lot of buzz in washington d.c. it's about washington. it's about the political and media kind of circus that exists
3:42 am
here. where everybody is in this pool. they're all trying to get as much publicity as they can for themselves, even staffers, it is called this town. it is written by mark from "the new york times." i wanted to hear what jay carney said about it. >> have you read mark's book and do you think it accurately reflects this town and this white house. >> see the value of going to the back early? let me say two things. i have not read the book but i expect an invitation to the book party. >> so noted. are you on the "a" list? >> i certainly wasn't expecting this question. >> bill: i gotta tell you i love asking a question he doesn't expect, right? he was expecting -- he got the questions about syria about
3:43 am
immigration reform. you know, about the debt crisis. about a lot of questions about the economic speech which he's going to give today. people always want to know ahead of time what he's going to say. he will talk about this. will he talk about this? i just wanted to cut through and ask him. by the way the book party is tonight. in washington, d.c. >> i didn't get my invitation. >> bill: jay carney, i think will still be on air force i coming back from missouri. we'll be back and talk to john fuglesang here on the "full court press." >> announcer: like politics? then like the "bill press show" on facebook. this is the "bill press show."
3:45 am
3:46 am
young turks is that we're honest. i think the audience gets that i actually mean it. michael shure: this show is about being up to date so a lot of my work happens by doing the things that i am given to doing anyway. joy behar: you can say anything here. jerry springer: i spent a couple of hours with a hooker joy behar: your mistake was writing a check jerry springer: she never cashed it (vo) the day's events. four very unique points of view. tonight starting at 6 eastern. current tv is the place for true stories. with award winning documentaries that take you inside the headlines. real, gripping, current. documentaries... on current tv.
3:47 am
>> announcer: on your radio and on current tv, this is the "bill press show." >> bill: hey here we go. 13 minutes before the top of the hour now on the "full court press." by the way a big vote coming up. first of all, by the way looks like the baby didn't wake up again this morning here. i hope that royal baby is a little better on schedule than fuglesang baby. >> we'll call it a growth spurt. the baby is going through a growth spurt sometimes they sleep more. maybe that's it. >> bill: okay. big vote in the house of representatives today. a republican-sponsored -- republican-sponsored amendment which will block the nsa from
3:48 am
getting the -- keeping track of the phone records, all of our phone records and every phone call we make as revealed by edward snowden. you know, he's gotten a lot of flak and a lot of people have accused him of being a traitor. most members -- republicans and democrats in the senate have said that. the white house said edward snowden brought back here. both republicans and democrats a little bit of different attitude. they say no, no, no, the nsa has been going too far. the patriot act never gave them the right for such a massive spying operation. and there will be a vote today on an amendment which again will strip nsa of the money they need to continue collecting that kind of data. that is going to be very, very interesting to watch here. it's the "full court press" on a wednesday morning. july 24.
3:49 am
on another front politico has done a big study give credit to them. looking into the i.r.s. in other words they went beyond the scandal right? all of the idea that the i.r.s. under directions of the white house, was out to get conservative tea party groups only and being unfair to them and declaring war on them. politico has looked into that and found out it just is not true. that the i.r.s. was in fact, kicking the tires if you will, checking applications for tax-exempt status from many, many organizations particularly those that came into being after the citizens united decision by the supreme court. and they were rejecting many of them because they were purely
3:50 am

you live from our nation's capital. americans, we are an honest people. or are we? well, the makers of honest t set out to find out. seth goldman is the founder and president of honest t in studio with us. seth, good to see you. >> good morning. good to be with you. >> bill: i have to tell you, i love your product. i've had many, many bottles of honest tea. i tell you where i find it at sweet greens which is a great restaurant chain. >> i was one of their founding investors. >> bill: were you really? >> i was just at their opening new store in new york city. they expanded to their 20th store. >> bill: 20 now. they're really great. i know they carry your product. and you have so many different -- this is not -- this is not a commercial sponsorship here but honestly, i love the product. look, i have an orange mango. you've got peach white.

i can't wait to try this. i would be drinking this except this one is not chilled. pomegranate blue is the new flavor right? >> very popular. >> bill: chobani makes a pomegranate yogurt. >> i've got the green tea. this is delicious. >> bill: you started how long ago? >> 15 years ago out of my house. had five thermoses. in bethesda, maryland. five thermoses and an empty snapple bottle and went to whole foods and said we want to sell this in your store. >> bill: is that right? >> yeah. >> bill: you just mix -- came up with the flavors? >> my cofounder was my professor from business school. we realized there was an opportunity for a less sweet drink. that's why our drinks are different. they're organic and a lot less sugar. >> bill: are you nationwide? >> we are. we're now owned by coca-cola and so distributed off of the coca-cola trucks. more than 100,000 stores around the country.
4:46 am
that's why we did this experiment in all 50 states. >> bill: so congratulations seriously. so you did this experiment in all 50 states and how did you go about checking the honest tea level? >> we wanted to do a social experiment. how honest are americans when they think no one's looking? will they do the right thing? and so we put up freestanding racks of bottled tea and the sign says honor system, $1 a bottle. you pick, you pay then we stepped back. there was a loose box, people could put money in the box. >> bill: you did this -- >> downtown areas. downtown crossings and then we just stepped back and watched what happened. and what was i guess refreshing to see is 92% of americans put money in the box. >> bill: no kidding. >> when we asked people before we did the experiment, what's your expectation, how many do
4:47 am
you think? people were like maybe 65% 70%. but 92%. >> that's higher than i would have thought. >> bill: that's higher than i would have thought. there's nobody standing there to -- >> no uniform personnel no cameras. >> bill: you had to have cameras, no? >> we had some people looking but what we did is we had people from our company without any uniform and an ipad marking tabulating the results. >> bill: kind of standing -- >> close enough to see. we did it here in d.c. i actually walked by dupont circle. i didn't see it initially. then i realized they were there. they were look casual, wearing yoga clothes. just being incognito. >> bill: cool. now, did anybody put in more than $1? >> some people put in more than $1. some people put in winning lottery tickets you know. they had won $2 in the lottery up in maine so they put that in. one person in south carolina
4:48 am
didn't put any money in and then felt guilty afterwards and sent us $2 in the mail. >> no way! i'm from south carolina. i'm proud of that. >> it was interesting to see the way people behaved. >> bill: were there some states that behaved better than others? >> there were. so two states had 100% honesty rates. frankly, it is surprising. >> bill: if i had to guess -- >> washington, d.c. >> vermont. >> bill: vermont. >> hawaii. 100% and alabama was 100%. >> alabama. those two states are so much alike. i can honestly see how that would happen. >> and then in indiana and maine were 99%. of. >> wow. >> interesting. >> bill: new jersey had to be at the bottom. [ laughter ] >> new jersey was 96%.
4:49 am
remember 92% is the average. better than average. >> my first thought on the worst would be -- >> bill: and the mafia rhode island had to be -- >> rhode island mafia. [ laughter ] >> let's see. rhode island, look up the results here. >> bill: carol is going to kill me. >> good luck with that. as soon as i saw the least honest, i thought immediately it would be washington, d.c. >> rhode island is 92% and unfortunately, you're right about d.c. >> we did the worst? i knew it. >> bill: d.c., 80%. shame on us. >> we've done the experiment and it definitely fluctuates. varies by location. there is a dynamic and so we did it at dupont circle in d.c. i was standing around watching and there's sort of -- it is self-reinforcing behavior. some people see some people taking without paying, others will follow. >> bill: oh, really.
4:50 am
that seems to be what happened in d.c. >> bill: so, in terms of the beverage business now what is happening with getting away from the high sugar drinks? >> it's happening pretty quickly. if you look at the trend the share of carbonated soft drinks has continued to decline year after year and the companies have to diversify. they all recognize that. so they've certainly moved to diet and lower calorie drinks. if you look at what happened in schools, the beverage industry has pulled out of selling sweet drinks in schools. >> i have an 8-year-old and a 5-year-old. my 8-year-old has never had a drink of soda in his life. even if i'm like have a drink. he's like i don't want any. >> kid these days are growing up with. when his friends come over, they don't know about soda. >> one of our fastest-growing parts of our business, a drink called honest kids a lower sugar drink pouch. you know what's funny, if you

were to do a taste test, we would lose because it is much less sweet. but when you put it in a kid's lunchbox and that's all there is, they drink it. they get used to it. it gets harder to drink that. >> bill: so this is 100 calories. >> per bottle. >> bill: compared to if i had a can of coca-cola -- >> probably about -- by ounces, it is about twice as many calories for a soda. so we're a lot less sweet and that's where we have seen so much interest is just less sweet compared to what's been out there. >> i also found with sodas a lot of times just the sodium that's in it sometimes doesn't even leave you -- it still leaves you thirsty after you drink one whereas with tea that's what you want it to do. >> bill: in this little sipping cup or whatever it is, okay is my ice tea.

going to be able to move into cnn and get cnn back on top? or at least over msnbc? >> it seems like it is working so far but it's so hard to tell because most of the big ratings bumps that cnn seems to get are from, you know, huge trials, huge events, when it is like day to day politics, the grimes, we'll see what happens when 2014 starts up again or 2016 whenever that is which could be any minute. that's what i'm waiting to see. so far things are going well for cnn. i think they're happy with what's happening. beating out fox is going to be tough for anybody. >> right. >> i think the goal, like you said -- >> bill: between the two of them. >> be a solid number two and then the next level -- >> bill: msnbc seems to be dragging after what they were doing like last year. why? is it because people are not interested in politics or they're not putting up good programming? >> i think it is a lull in politics, you know.
5:21 am
and also with these other huge events that are happening. trials and crazy -- people during off-election years want to watch fluff and have fun and not necessarily getting the politics right away. so i don't know. i think msnbc could pull it out once the election starts again. but it is pretty rough right now. >> bill: they made changes in the line-up. by the way fox news is about to make some big changes in the line-up. we'll speculate about that. your comments always welcome here. join the conversation at 1-866-55-press. and we'll be back with "buzzfeed"'s dorsey shaw here on the "full court press." >> announcer: this is the "bill press show." documentaries... on current tv.
