john it's good to see you the far right freedom party have been in a coalition government in austria before so this is not the first time what impact are they likely to have. well i think we've seen already from the kinds of statements that have been coming out of the coalition negotiations what kind of impact the freedom party the populist far out party here are likely to have in government certainly mr coates has made some concessions it would same to get this coalition off the ground and as your reports are fairly clearly stated in that package most of those concessions seem to be around the idea of clamping down on immigration and. refugee policy and that kind of thing and also some kind of far reaching reforms in the areas of the social partnership here in austria so i think they're going to be the major themes that will see the freedom party here take the lead on ok and the party is potentially getting some of the biggest

ministries foreign interior and defense should the european union leaders be worried about this. well certainly the the freedom party leader hans christian strucker is going to be the deputy chancellor here that's for certain they will also as you said at the interior ministry which is a very powerful ministry here in austria and the foreign ministry as well looks like it's going to go to someone who's up a lot a lot allied to the freedom body at least whether or not the european. union should be worried about these i'm not exactly sure i mean it will remain to be seen in what direction the government goes i suppose what's interesting i think is the reaction from europe so far i mean back in two thousand when we had this. this conservative freedom party government the first time around of course the e.u. impose sanctions on austria there were protests there was a huge reaction from brussels and from all across europe this time there's been barely a week it's as though the whole political landscape has shifted so far to the right
10:06 am
now that this has become simply an ordinary occurrence. ok a different reaction a different situation during the campaign refugees and border security dominated it why did these far right positions go down so well with austrian voters well i think you have to remember that austria did accept a lot of refugees back in twenty fifteen in fact in terms of population as many as as germany back in that big wave of by which they came across the west balkans and i think there are legitimate concerns about always people that arrived people are concerned about border security they're concerned about the social system here and whether it can curb it instead about finding jobs and accommodation and so on those kinds of concerns are also seen in germany and i think what coolants did very well as you realized very early on that this was about you know that he could play on those kinds of views that people have and he could make that into a winning proposition for the election back in october and so i think that's that's

it's good to see you it's a close race between the two potentially splitting the party rather evenly could this balloon into a larger crisis for the n.c. well it could indeed in the race it's got closer in the last couple of minutes you know. who would expect it to poach will go some of the smoke will. elicit it seems now so to speak and that means that these two frontrunners all within a couple of percentage points at one another and the a.b.c. does not deal well with that kind of uncertainty it's it seems to rupert social conscience that in two thousand and seven with a close race at the top it's looking groups of the party at this stage you just mentioned that this could potentially hurt jacob zuma ex-wife but just before the meeting he announced free education for more students how could this be significant helpful for her. well just dramatic announcement this morning the president
