republicans were thrilled to greet their leader ahead of the highly anticipated speech but the big question ahead of donald trump's first state of the union address when he adopted more presidential tone with the world see twitter trump or teleprompter trump a lot had changed he said since he took office a new tide of optimism was already sweeping across our land each day since we have gone forward with a clear vision and a righteous mission to make america great again for all americans. he praised his own administration's achievements more than two million new jobs rising wages reductions in red tape on employment claims at a forty five year low and the stock market smashing records. this in fact is our new american moment there has never been a better time to start living the american dream and together we can achieve

absolutely anything. democrats did not share this optimism at a trade school representative joseph kennedy the third record of this official response. we see an economy that makes stock soar investor portfolios bold and corporate profits climb but fails to give workers their fair share of the reward a government. it struggles to keep itself open and this nagging sinking feeling no matter your political beliefs this is not right this is not who we are protesters marched on the streets of washington and many worried by trump's hardline stance on immigration while young republicans at a washington bar were enthusiastic. why the president on the saddle want to try and bring. a lot of bipartisanship but there are critics and fans agreed that trump

succeeded in staying largely on message and he ended on a high note as long as we have confidence in our values faith in our citizens and trust in our god we will never fail. our families will thrive. our people will prosper and our nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free thank you and god bless america goodnight. another landmark on an extraordinary white house journey. and let's go to washington a poll in our correspondent carlina. carley you've reported numerous times on the immigration debate in the u.s. especially the generation of immigrants who came to the u.s. as children known as dreamers last night trump said that he wanted to work with
8:05 pm
both parties to give dreamers a path to citizenship his offer did not go will go down well with everyone take a listen. under our plan we focus on the immediate family by limiting sponsorships to spouses and minor children my duty and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber is to defend americans to protect their safety their families their communities and their right to the american dream because americans are dreamers too. we know that the disagreement over the future of these dreamers is already led to one government shutdown and it could lead to another one in two weeks' time hansa progress been made. hello grant well not really because the whole trump underlined again his proposal for

offering the citizenship to one dollar eight million undocumented migrants but only in exchange to the financing of his u.s. mexican border while also under the condition of ending the green card lottery and limiting family reunification for the ones who already have a green card for the united states he calls it the migration chain and this is a very important topic the immigration plan he proposed yesterday because as you already mentioned the next set line for the shutdown of city eighth of february it's not even not even two weeks the immigration policy is probably the most important parking change that we're gonna see and we're going to hear during the next week and experts are commenting here that some democrats might accept a partial financing also wall which could add and having a scandal among the democrats if they have always sure they are not going to accept the wall and any circumstances remember chuck schumer the leader of the democrats

in the senate said a week ago during his speech in the senate that he would consider to discuss a border wall as part of a deal and he did during his meeting with but apparently this wasn't enough compromise for the president because after this meeting the white house released a proposal with the problems i already mentioned what about the stimulus like by the u.s. president what he said because americans are dreamers what the me. well brant this was again a message to his base of course you can see very positive reactions on this comment on this statement of donald trump because here we say arse again directly to america first america can skirt american citizens first but in a way it's a bit contradictory and confusing as to because dreamers say exactly that they do feel like americans they grew up here they speak the language and they went to school to university or work here so they told me they will probably. change the

holocaust anti-semitism was no longer in vogue. now times have changed the world is full of refugees back then the borders were hermetically sealed and not open as they are today thanks to the unbelievably generous courageous and humane gesture that was made here. she is speaking of course to a sea change in so many aspects of politics geography two demographics how does responsibility for the holocaust how does it play into german politics today i think that sense of responsibility certainly played a role in angela merkel's decision two and a half years ago i thought open gemini's borders to some one million refugees that came in the following that at the height of the refugee crisis and also of course as a result of open in germany's border there are huge numbers of refugees still
