you know. this is g.w. news why from berlin tonight washington and many people around the world are asking what is inside that secret memo the f.b.i. says it has grave concerns about the accuracy of a classified memo on the russia investigation but the white house has confirmed to us president trump will release the memo on friday also coming up german lawmakers approved new regulations to reunite asylum seekers with their families or unions will resume in august but there's
9:01 pm
a cap on the numbers and poland backs controversial legislation making it a crime to suggest that poles were complicit in the holocaust the move has angered israel will get reaction from the sun in these untold center. plus china closes more virtual tunnels under its notorious fire wall starting today people and companies will have to use state approved software will take a look at the consequences for doing business in china and a court it reverses lifetime bans for dozens of russian athletes accused of doping but it is still not clear whether those athletes can take part in next week's winter olympics. it's good to have you. with us we begin in the united states where the f.b.i.
9:02 pm
have condemned plans by the white house and house republicans to release a secret memo to morrow of the memo alleges that the f.b.i. abuse did surveillance powers when it investigated donald trump's presidential election campaign the agency contests the documents accuracy while democrats say its release could undermine investigations into russian interference in the twenty sixteen election. that were on. a quick exchange overheard after donald trump state of the union speech on tuesday night the us president reassures a republican lawmaker that he has every intention of putting out the memo that's polarizing washington. but i just read the memo was commissioned by devin newness chairman of the republican house intelligence committee and it
9:03 pm
describes alleges surveillance abuses by f.b.i. and justice department officials looking into possible ties between the truck campaign and russia investigators are accused of failing to disclose that their probe was partly based on research financed by hillary clinton's campaign republicans claim this shows anti trumbo bias at the f.b.i. they're calling for the memo to be released. there may have been milf eason's at the f.b.i. by certain individuals so it is our job in conducting transparent oversight of the lead of the executive branch to get to the bottom of that sunshine is the best disinfectant and so what we want is all of this information to come out so that transparency can reign supreme and accountability can occur but the f.b.i. has warned against releasing the dossier in a rare public rebuke we have grave concerns about material admissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memos accuracy for their part democrats claim the memo
9:04 pm
cherry picked highly classified information in an effort to discredit the russian best to gauge been led by robert mueller. this is not about the facts this is about and there it is that the chairman wants to put out misleading narrative to undermine the f.b.i. undermine the department and ultimately undermine bob gentleman tensions between the trump white house and investigators has been mounting days ago the f.b.i. his deputy director andrew mccabe quit and now an open confrontation looms between the head of america's top domestic intelligence agency and the administration. we want to go to washington now and pull in chris faulkner he is a republican political strategist chris good to see you again you know we've got the white house saying that the president wants to release the memo to morrow can you maybe explain to our audience why that he wants to make that memo public is the
9:05 pm
purpose to undermine the robert moeller investigation. no of course not the purpose here is to make sure that the public has complete faith in total trust in the f.b.i. since level of and almost no federal agency has been more instrumental in keeping americans safe than the f.b.i. that everyone believes it's very much likely true that ninety nine percent of the folks the f.b.i. are doing their darndest to keep everyone safe and to protect our country from any threats for the rest of the concern is here there may have been a few bad actors a few folks who with a partisan angle with a very unfortunate politics bent to their views were involved this investigation in unfortunate making the rest of the f.b.i. look bad when you and i can't we can't be sure of what is in the document because we haven't seen the document sure your agree with me on that and we also have a lot of members of congress on capitol hill who have come out and said that they want the memo released and they haven't seen the memo either what do you make of
9:06 pm
the claims that mr newness himself the man who authored this memo that he altered it and that the copy that the president has is different from the copy that the other members of the house intelligence committee have. well i'm sure a chairman is is not an idiot he knows full well if there was any alteration that it's quickly quickly going to become public because of there might be if if people are saying this there might be two actual copies of this report it's unlikely that's the case i did not familiar with the original document so i don't know if it's been altered or not we'll see in this again this transparency this move to release the memo will clear up any. confusion or concerns that people have about this issue. i've been trying to explain to a lot of our viewers who've written in asking about what the president was overheard saying after the state of the union address earlier this week saying that
9:07 pm
telling members of congress yes i'm going to release the memo now he said that on tuesday evening and he had not seen the memo at that point so doesn't it make then the the motivation the motive of the president doesn't bring it into question if he hasn't even seen the contents that he's willing to say yes i will make it public. i'm not aware of exactly what the president said to members as he was leaving the chamber after the state of the union but what is clear whether it's this president or any president for that matter if there is insinuation of wrongdoing especially something is insidious this collision with a foreign government and we have evidence that clearly refutes that that shows that there was no interference in our democratic elections then of course he's going to want to get out there you want to restore the american people's faith in the integrity of our elections and this is a clear way to do that. republican strategist chris faulkner based in l.a. but he is paying us a visit in our studio in washington tonight chris thank you very much we appreciate
9:08 pm
you taking the time to talk with us. here's some of the other stories now that are making headlines around the world the u.n. special envoy on human rights in myanmar has said that military operations against pro hinge of muslims bear the hallmarks of genocide nearly seven hundred thousand have fled to bangladesh since the army cracked down after last year's attacks by insurgents a turkish court has reversed its decision to release the national head of amnesty international from detention the original decision was made yesterday but successfully appealed by the prosecution of the human rights activists time there killing has been in jail since last june on terrorism charges which he did not. kenya's high court has ordered the government to end its shutdown of three private t.v. stations the outlets were taken off the air after they covered opposition leader

right self-proclaimed presidential inauguration on tuesday journalists say they have been sleeping in their newsrooms to avoid being arrested outside. germany's parliament today agreed on a new policy on refugee family reunions now while the far right party criticize the changes as too liberal many others feel that they don't go far enough currently some asylum seekers are already in germany many syrians are not allowed to bring family members here these are migrants who don't face political persecution or are not protected by the un refugee convention today's new policy will reopen the door words to about a thousand people a month. well joining me here now with the studio is a member of the german parliament to the goods a member of the green party it's good to have you here on this show you voted
9:10 pm
against the legislation today. for these family reunions was being run well the thing as we're talking about people who are not entitled to as a love but they are in germany because we cannot send them back especially to syria our of the star or any other country because they are crisis their existence is not secure we don't want to send them back because they could die. there is a big three lives so devastating in germany and now we're talking about their families most of the children most of to women are still in those countries for example in syria are un refugee camps and the fathers are the mothers are especially the minority just children once of parents to come to germany to bring the families together and since today it's not allowed anymore and germany and that's against all the last we have it's against the general law of germany it's
9:11 pm
against the u.n. charter unconventional what what would a a proper law look like to you what do you want to see the parliament here do well we're talking about fifty thousand people outside who wants to come in and they want just don't want to come into germany to to us to come into europe who will europe should allow them we need card arse off to people to come in a secure way to germany not going to their parents and their families. broaden things out a little bit and talk about what it's like to be in their current parliament and what it's like to work with the far right the alternative for germany you're a member of the greens and you're also you sit on the budget committee in the budget committee has of the chairman the chairman is for. the a.f.d. . if you could explain to me how is it possible how do you how do you work in government together with
9:12 pm
a member of the far right party when you yourself are from the greens but it's a hard time for me as you know i am on my car and by myself i'm born in turkey but i grew up in the very end germany and these days you're talking a lot off about german blonde and german existence and germany us especially and they want to show by each speaking by each talking in the parliament they want to show us that germany is a closed shop and we don't belong to death and you might have been to have you experience there personally oh yes i do every day but what do they say or do to get out of. the normal life you know we're talking about nor titian for example when they're talking about. their tissue and then there's nothing like that you don't have a reason coffee or german tea you are german but my in the us and it's like they're building up the walls are not brick walls but these are walsall mines and about behavior so when you win when you've got these barriers what do you do though
9:13 pm
because i mean they are democratically elected they're in the parliament with you you have to govern some way how do you find a path to govern well they have to mix up as a part of the parliament but i don't have to accept them as personally and i don't have to accept their politic and our way of thinking and about their minds and about their real speaking so we try to cope with this and showed up people that the things they won against the human rights against are for thinking of democratic re and about this kind of germany we're living in this called germany is multicultural a lot of migrants there are people from the from vault and this has to be like that because you have to thing that germany also lives from their migrants who. are working here who are paying in the security systems does this germany and this is my germany a not better do do you see the possibility that the far right is extending
9:14 pm
its power and its influence in germany because i know when a party makes it over the five percent hurdle in parliament you know they they have rights to all kinds of things and they have connections to foundations for example across the country and it allows them to spread their party philosophy do you see that happening well those of us what is happening this is a populist party it's the right mind the party they have to cope the fuck you have to be of their office but you cannot for bed to them because if fifteen to twenty per cent of the people are voting for this party we have to work against this against this my makers but we cannot work against that democratic way off behavior did is what it does what it does there are a part of the german parliament now it depends on how weak the democrats are going and getting along with this and doing against this we are doing very important work
9:15 pm
and we appreciate you taking the time thank you the evening here to come and talk with this league is a member of the greens and a member of the german parliament thank you thank you. well now to poland lawmakers there have backed a controversial bill criminalizing anyone who suggests that poland or its people were complicit in nazi war crimes under the bill people who speak of polish death camps for example could receive a three year prison sentence poland's ruling party says the legislation is needed to ensure that poles are recognised as victims of the nazis the bill has caused outrage in israel which calls it an attempt to rewrite history. a foretaste of the fallout from the new polish holocaust bill israel's ambassador leaving a meeting with the speaker of the senate in a hurry not making nice. the vote in the polish senate was decisive fifty
9:16 pm
seven in favor twenty three against two abstentions but it may not be the quick fix the government would like. paul and as long struggled with the legacy of nazi run death camps on its soil like auschwitz birkenau where more than a million jews and others died poland was one of the countries most affected by nazi atrocities and many here feel they've been unfairly branded as villains and it hasn't gone down well when american politicians among others referred to polish death camps for many years history has been falsified it has been presented in a false way we did this for the poles for our dignity and truth but the bill's passage comes on the heels of holocaust commemorations at auschwitz even though poles weren't in charge of death camps on their territory some poles helped the nazis in their goal of killing all of europe's jews many fear that the new bill will brush this history under the rug. what does this still say the jews
9:17 pm
killed. the polish people he surely does this out of the wars and what others tell you my family my great grandmother i do know dozens of others of my family members who died did they all of this didn't happen there's been strong international pushback to the senate bill the u.s. state department has expressed concern about the repercussions this legislation could have on poland's strategic interests and relationships including with the united states and israel. well sort of hand israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu was even more forceful. under no circumstances will we accept any attempt to rewrite history or limitation on truthful historical research to become law the bill must still be signed by poland's president
9:18 pm
meanwhile security has been increased at the israeli embassy in warsaw amid fears of protests by nationalist polish groups. or earlier we spoke to read by marvin hier he is the founder of the simon visa all center a jewish human rights organization and we asked him for his reaction to the bill because it's a bad piece of legislation because it gives them they have totally absolved happy people who walk around the streets say see it was totally the germans it was no such thing as probably shouldn't the senate is polish and the seventh is a during the wall even in the year in the years preceding the war was known fact. and it was in the lead in one city or one town that should be knowledge by today's polish government we very much welcome the fact that the polish government today is friendly with israel we don't we do not want to hide
9:19 pm
that fact we acknowledge it i happy about it but at the same time you can't rewrite history and falsify history by giving a very high mocks to the bradleys people on how they acted toward the jews during world war true too. you're watching the w. news live from berlin still to come a sports court overturns wife time bans on dozens of russian olympic athletes accused of doping but will they be allowed to compete in the winter olympics. are a time for business news are here don we're bosses are popping the champagne core which is believe that diana has just turned its most successful yamit now while clouds of scandal brant the german call make a sold more cars than ever before and choked off its highs profit which will hit close to eleven billion euros the road ahead doesn't look quite so good for stop

profits a full cost to stagnate as the financial burden of developing new technologies begins to bite and of course there is that scandal of test so monkeys and humans. the boss of dima detail had some reason to smile twenty seventeen was the best year in the company's history with sales of three point three million cars but this week's revelations of exhaust gas testing on humans and monkeys cast a shadow over the shining figures from the start of the press conference tried to clear the air so much for such testing goes against our values a dime or we're going to find out exactly how this happened. based automaker together with the german carmakers financed the now disbanded e u g t research institute dieter zetsche or tried to move on from the damaging allegations and refocus attention on the company's future he told shareholders profits would

9:22 pm
how investors were reacting to dimas record profit all the eleven billion euro. this number of course looks good and when you also talk about sales sales quantity of profit all that pretty much you couldn't even be better but stock exchange always means looking in the future as well and i'm i was also announcing that they're expecting higher costs now for two thousand and eighteen that was making investors a little bit of war is that because of that their profit margin could down that their share price could be falling that their dividend at the end could be less so yeah that's why we're seeing this rather a negative reaction today here at the stock exchange. a financial correspondent done in frankfurt that now tens of thousands of germany's industrial workers striking for the second day in a row and the union is threatening full scale industrial action if employers don't give the industry what it is calling for well the demands are

a six percent wage increases well as a twenty eight hour week for workers taken care of a child or a relative and it's that very demand that companies have rejected they say they will only consider it if they can increase hours if necessary or unions from picketing companies like ford since wednesday. now if you've been getting through the great firewall of china using virtual tunnels also known as v.p.n. zero time might be up from today the government is reported to be launching its long promised crackdown. if you're in china trying to skype chat with colleagues in the u.s. think again what about surfing google or using twitter and facebook sorry game over the chinese government is banning all virtual private networks or v.p. ends these services help users to bypass online censorship but businesses also use them to move their data securely in an effort to calm fears the government has

assured foreign companies doing business there that they can still access the internet using state approved portals. but many firms a nervous about exposing that data to the chinese copy when this plane impacts safety that's because government telecom companies just provide a channel a network they can't see any content on the network related to your company for businesses that follow chinese laws and regulations this is guaranteed constitution stipulates that citizens have to freedom to communicate and that corporate communications will be protected with. previously however comes at a cost many small and mid-sized companies are troubled by the usage fees for the state own software well over one thousand euros a month experts say that's more than smaller businesses will be able to shoulder in the long run. as back up to brant now for a look at whether some well rather anxious athletes might be set to become an
