family members of victims. there were representatives of victims' organizations along with defense attorneys a lot of journalists and some of the representative of victims organizations were quite upset by this outburst that i told you about because they said he's not helping at all with the investigation is not good shedding any light on this terror cell or what happened to our loved ones and yet he was allowed to use the courtroom as a platform for his views the other person who was upset by this was obvious lums defense attorney because of course if you have an articulate and opinionated of the slum that doesn't match the defense's portrayal of him as an idiot who couldn't possibly courtenay to tax time right now you mentioned already in your reporting that of the some criticized the court saying it is biased against muslims how is this trial being perceived by the local muslim community in belgium or in brussels specifically do they think it will be a fair trial where he was even more expensive than just blaming the court he

points and including labor law and health care that need to be resolved and to talk more about this we're now joined by degrees political correspondent linda crane she's following the talks for us melinda is the finish line in sight. well sort of . there had to been thought that the talks would finish this evening but we're hearing a number of voices saying that is quite probably not going to be the case the party leaders who are negotiating now in this stretch are due to give a statement around seven pm in about three hours from now so we'll know more at that time but we've heard from some sources that in fact the talks could go as far as into tomorrow early morning or possibly even longer some members of the party leadership have said they've postponed their flights out of berlin into the later

stretches of tomorrow so so indeed still quite some time ahead all right willing to talk us through some of the most contentious issues that are impeding these talks from a successfully ending today. well as you mentioned basically two central areas one is health care and the other one is labor law so on health care the s.p.d. the social democrats have been pushing very hard for gestures that would represent perhaps the beginning of the end of what they call a two class medical system that means they would like to see a clear effort to put those who are insured by public insurers on a par with the germans who have private health insurance what that would mean for example is that the fees that doctors could charge to both kinds of patients would perhaps be equalized that would represent a very large cost burden for

a number of the public insurers which is one reason that the conservatives have been opposing that sort of step we don't know for sure where things stand it's a very contentious issue but the s.p.d. has made it clear they need at least some symbolic movement on this move away from two party and two time limited temporary work contracts unless there's a very clear reason for them to be limited in time again something the chancellor had said she's not willing to accept so tough negotiations there as well and very briefly if i may melinda what happens after these negotiations and well the agreements that they've come up with will then be presented to the public possibly tomorrow morning possibly later on tomorrow whenever the talks to finish following that though it then goes to a vote among the entire membership of the s.p.d. the social democratic party that is a real sticking point it is possible that they will turn down the hard work that the negotiations have been accomplished then we're back at square one all right
