and israeli jet in flames an angry reaction from the army and two very different versions of what happened early saturday morning. the key question didn't iranian surveillance drones stray into israeli territory from a base in syria triggering a deadly response from israeli fighter jets syria says its allies drone was near the israeli border on a standard intelligence mission but israel disagrees it has released this unverified video which it says shows the drone in israeli airspace next they say it followed the drone across the syrian border and shot it down and then launched fighter jets like these to strike the drones base inside syria that triggered a syrian response the regime unleashed its anti-aircraft guns on the israeli fighter planes and it brought down an f. sixteen jet which crashed dramatically into northern israeli countryside the israeli air force says its pilot was seriously wounded after making an emergency

exit. israel then responded with another large scale bombing raid it hit syrian government positions near damascus just days ago israel declared itself ready for a standoff like this on tuesday israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu stood at the northern border in israeli occupied golan heights and delivered a warning. we seek peace but are prepared for any scenario and i wouldn't suggest anyone test us. israel's military has now been tested this is the first loss of one of its jets in syria and the rhetoric is escalating on both sides syrian government forces have warned israel it's quote terrorism will face a severe response from now on israel's reaction syria is playing with fire. well earlier i asked the middle east correspondent tanya kramer if it's likely that a further escalation will now follow. well it seems that most of the military and
6:04 pm
this tells us saying that none of the sides would like to see an escalation. but at the same time i mean it is about as concern has always been that iran and through its proxies like hezbollah will entrenched itself in the area near the israeli golan heights michael and heights near the border area and they want to avoid that so this is the israeli line has been you know this is a red line and they will whatever they see if it's a threat they will attack this now. they also say i mean this is a show of strength now from all sides i think you could say. nobody wants an escalation but of course we have to wait and see whatever follows from this incident but no time in talis just want has been israel's involvement in syria to what extent have they been conducting operations there since the civil war broke out in that country. well it is
6:05 pm
a has always said that they stay out of the conflict but their have their own bread lines and they have been conducting many air raids into syria against hezbollah and other targets what they see as the threat so israel has been in a way operating. in syria but what has been new all this time is the response by the us of the region and you can see that there is maybe also more confidence because of the changing political ground in syria by responding with such a massive i mean this has been. in the past couple of weeks we have seen more response to that whereas before that and here ever it wasn't really i mean there wasn't any response to that so this is what what is the difference right now and we have to wait and see how this will develop because the tensions there because the situation won't change. kramer reporting for us in jerusalem thank you. now to some of the

well for more on the match earlier today between the joint north joint korean team and switzerland i'm joined now by nick mckenna klein from sports so nick this korean women's hockey team is the first in the olympic history to combine players from the north and the south so how did they do they did ok it's a concern they didn't have much time to practice they did actually get a bit of a clobbering loss against switzerland but it was to be expected it's was done by right six in the world whereas south korea before these teams you know it's a right seventeen it's a not necessarily a top team when it comes to women's hockey so they did relatively well considering the circumstances and as i said i believe only had a couple of weeks time to actually practice and get used to each other because they were you know they were planning on having a united korean team this is something which has come relatively abruptly before the before the tournament actually started the atmosphere the stadium however told a different story it's holes so this that you know the fans watching were happy to
6:10 pm
see you know it's a team and it was it was a good thing for diplomacy not basically good for sports but even in the north korean cheerleaders who were said by north korea to pyongyang to just get going throughout the whole game they just wouldn't stop when they were firing on the fans throughout the throughout the game it was a fantastic thing to see well you mentioned that they had to play without really having time to get to know each other can you tell us a little bit about how they came together well. was first announced couple weeks ago that they were going to be a united team that they're going to come out of the total. last night for example is a united korea and they've had a couple of weeks to practice but even their coach who is an american she said the time she wasn't looking she was happy about the decision because it was so close the tournament so close the olympics the kind of breaks the game plan you have the team you work with them for the past of the use you qualify for them takes now of a sudden need to change things up a bit all in all it's a good thing yes but for the for the sporting aspect it's very difficult all right there have been a number of results during this first day tell us about those have indeed i mean
