7:02 pm
i'm now joined by a correspondent alexander doctor who is standing outside the prison where callous for tomorrow is being held and in studio by our correspondent public folly and here thank you both for joining me so let's start with you alexander here just outside the prison as we mention what's been happening there today. well today. called the sports among arrested approximately twenty minutes after eleven and he was arrested. so the next was a motorway the a seven so we learned and it was not a routine police control because the prosecutor in charge told us that he gets information by how to route german police and so the german police officers waited for columns among the eighty seven because they know that he will you they know the
7:03 pm
he would travel coming from finland going back to belgium and coming through germany and so he was arrested at the motorway a seven of the northern part of germany and then was brought to a small police station in the village of school b. and afterwards he is now in the prison here right behind me in norman stuff all right pablo here in studio just had from alexander that germany made a very deliberate effort to detain him but why is his detention coming now this is a man who has been traveling across europe for the last couple of months yeah you're absolutely right and let's not forget the catalyst was a man has been out of spain for the past five months originally there was an arrest warrant for him but this is where we get into legal matters now belgium among the charges in spain is rebellion and i belgium doesn't have that in its statute books in its penal code so there was a fear that if he were arrested in belgium on the lesser charges because there are several charges against cottons put him on the if he were arrested in belgium on
7:04 pm
those charged. he would be extradited to spain but he could only actually go to trial on the charges that he was in or arrested in belgium for ali the charges of rebellion which are the most serious in spain don't exist in belgium so if he were back in spain he couldn't be actually tried for those charges which are what the spanish government and the spanish legal system considers the most serious so the arrest warrant was then essentially canceled or put on hold and now on friday we've seen that the judge investigating this just got into it reactivated the arrest warrant now we can jump to conclusions we can say that we know that in the german legal system a very similar charge which is high treason which is similar to this rebellion charge that we've seen in spain could mean that if he's arrested in germany and charged he could essentially be extradited back to spain and then the charges the serious charges could actually perceive the legal system could proceed with what

the spanish government really wants to go ahead with right but at the moment he is still very much in germany and i looked around i just want to come back to you what can we expect for pushing one now. while it's most likely that he will spend the night here on sunday coming from sunday to monday in the prison and afterwards on monday be transferred to the courts. and over the prosecutor's job will prove and decide if he will bring to spain to the spanish authorities but it's not most likely that this decision will. take place tomorrow. right so we have to wait to see what is clear though we've actually just seen people walking by with a band of they're saying calling for the free of putsch demo we're seeing protests does as well in boss i don't know what are the reactions from madrid as well well from the from madrid at the moment we don't have any official reaction from the

government just yet and normally the government of prime minister money. they tend to be quite cautious with these things so we haven't heard anything yet we have heard from the opposition who have welcomed this arrest or detention will stay in germany. and the other side in the catalan pro independence movement they've condemned this and like we're seeing here in the images we're already beginning to see clashes in barcelona and there are also protests across scotland times in cities i was watching the catalan regional news channel before going on air and i saw that there were many many people out on the streets protesting against this detention you know it hasn't been in the international news perhaps at the forefront of news over the past few months but in spain this is very much at the forefront of discussion amongst people across the spanish territory and that particular in catalonia it hasn't gone away the problem of this independence movement according to the government in madrid is still very much present and you
7:07 pm
know we're seeing here the tensions are still very high and you know there is a lot of anger amongst particularly people in favor of this independence movement in catalonia and that this is. they don't just sense you respect it they don't respect what is happening in madrid with regard to the government had they're proceeding with this issue and there's been a lot of criticism particularly against the government of money well we continue to watch these developments closely thank you to you alex. now to some of the other stories making news around the world at least four people are dead after a car bomb exploded in the somali capital mogadishu the explosion took place near the parliament building and police say the bomb was detonated at a checkpoint after soldiers intercepted and stopped a suspicious vehicle. german defense minister wants a lion has told german troops stationed in afghanistan to prepare for
