cracking down on ordinary people and elected politicians basically on everyone just. let me remind that. two days ago we had a vote to elect a president at the council on parliament and the vote didn't succeed because the country didn't get an overall majority that means that in forty eight hours they had to be a second vote but in between the counted was arrested and sent to prison with other five m.p.'s members of the problem and i don't think this is really normal for a democracy is it well he is accused of some serious crimes now i mean certainly we can see the argument of trying to give the voice to people but we're not talking about an overwhelming majority of catalans who want independence in the last in the last election it was nearly a fifty fifty split between the pro union s.

and the pro independence parties here feel that there is a risk that this push for catalan independence that you stand behind is dividing your region. well there's a lot of debate i mean the issue of independence is a political. issue that raises emotions but we're not there i think we're we had an election and we led to the parliament the parliament met for the first time. on story on january seventeenth and since then we've had three attempts to elect a president there's a clear majority to elect a government and the courts the spanish courts by government intervention by government request have blocked the parliament from electing a government we're not declaring independence right now we're trying to elect a government based on the vote of the december election in fact we had this friday we had a decision by the committee the united nations committee and human rights. granting
