today he said to london thanks but no thanks and russian president vladimir putin blames what he calls criminal negligence for a shopping mall fire in siberia that left school. protesters are demanding answers amid rumors of a cover up. it's good to have you with us tonight there is more fallout from the nerve agent poisoning of a former russian spy and his daughter in the u.k. london accusing the russian government of masterminding the attack which has left sergei in your script all fighting for their lives twenty seven countries including britain the us germany many other e.u. members and australia have since said that they are expelling more than one hundred

russian diplomats in response nato joined the mass expulsions today announcing that it is sending home seven russian diplomats and denying accreditation to three more . with nato joining the expulsions of russian diplomats the alliance's secretary general said moscow had it coming. this sounds a clear message to russia that there are costs and consequences for it's unacceptable and dangerous part than all behavior. the crisis started on british soil with accusations that moscow was behind the poisoning of a russian double agent in salzburg earlier this month the british foreign secretary calls the expulsions a turning point. and what will seem in these huge diplomatic expulsion is a desire to correct that and to say right russia enough is enough. russia denies

having anything to do with the poisoning and insists the u.s. is coercing other states to join its lead. or the way to do this or that country tells one or two diplomats to leave as well whispering apologies into our ears. we know that this is the result of colossal pressure colossal blackmail which is now unfortunately the main tool of washington on the international arena ocean to let this little. and on the streets of moscow people also express belief their country is being victimized even more so he said i think the russians have annoyed everyone because they're secretive and don't share everything of course it's not possible to know who carried out the poisoning. you know i've said this book would i'm concerned that europe is treating russia so badly. but i think that russia has a self-assured country and they're not too worried about what other countries think . russia's relations with the west are clearly are nice

and a thought maybe a long time coming. so how is this likely to be viewed in the kremlin i'm joined now by constantine finnigan he is an analyzed in the russian capital constantine welcome to the show we just heard the russian foreign minister sergei lavrov saying that countries have expelled diplomats because of pressure coming from the united states is that a widespread view there where you are. absolutely i think this is exactly what was being fed to the russian populist when he was seven by the kremlin propaganda machine and i do think that quite a lot of people at the top believe that the whole thing is a settled by washington actually an attempt to frame russia you know in russian politics and putin this some rises in sets in washington everything in the world is about washington russia can only have

a great enemy like washington so i think that it's no surprise that this situation is viewed so through this kind of russian american confrontation that. how do you think moscow will react i mean so far we've seen a chit for tat response is that going to continue well i think that generally yes this is the rule box in certain cases it will be impossible because of the disparity that's been the size of diplomatic missions russian diplomatic missions abroad and foreign diplomat ignitions in russia the same goes for the nato military liaison office and they do information office in moscow there's just skeleton starved there not enough people to expel but generally yes i think that moscow will respond but i also think that already now they in the kremlin in these small square where the foreign ministry is all thinking about the russian regime

likes to call a symmetrical response call that is that a hacker is there are in a room again this in the end even spetznaz is if what is that what you expect constancy that we're likely to see and we've heard the british prime minister say there is that there could be some sort of cyber attack that would have originate from moscow. i would miss surprised at all i do think that until now we see no signs he was really all moscow relenting because in the eyes of mr putin in the eyes of. any kind of attempt to pull back to to to relent to stop an easy call to defeat and this idea that you should never show weakness you know very strong in moscow that's why i think we should expect retaliate against some elements of it may not be exactly commensurate to what western countries did and as soon as the british government began pointing the

finger at russia over the souls very poisoning we all knew that but if you're putin for expect some pushback do you think he's been caught off guard by the scale of this response yes absolutely i do think that no one in moscow expected that there will be such a massive response by the west no one actually expected the united states to join in with such a significant contradiction to these expulsions sixty diplomats blah blahs one consulate closed especially a telephone conversation between president trump and latina putin as well if you look at the list you find even hungary where viktor orbán the prime minister is presenting himself as someone who is very close to mr putin very much kind of on the same wavelength and still have a bit of past expelled one russian diplomat and by that showed where there are real and not the propaganda priorities of one hundred life so i think yes there's quite

a lot of this quite a lot of unpleasantness from moscow and frankly if you look at it there was nothing like that ever meted out even to saddam hussein or to the kim family in north korea it is a very very significant diplomatic and symbolic humiliation. cousin gene for negative giving us valuable analysis from moscow elsa knight constantine thank you very much thank you theory of some of the other stories that are making headlines around the world the lawyer for detained cattle on separatist leader karla's which more says that his client will never surrender in the fight for independence from spain which is in jail in germany after being detained while he was in transit he's awaiting a decision by german courts on whether he should be extradited to spain to face rebellion charges in a phone call with u.s. president donald trump and german chancellor angela merkel has called for
