president hassan rouhani of iran is another us supporter after all iran has no intention of losing one of its closest allies in the arab world from day one to run a support to damascus with advisors weapons and troops syria in return grants around a much needed route to the hezbollah militia in lebanon. this man on the other hand would like to see assad out of power turkey has supported various rebel groups from the start and since january has had its own troops in syria one of president aired ones goals is to push back kurdish groups that gained influence in parts of syria by supporting u.s. operations against the so-called islamic state. let's bring in our correspondent. he's in ankara covering the three way summit there today between russia iran and turkey and the summit comes after years of fruitless efforts to halt the conflict

in syria as the main power brokers what ken iran russia and turkey hope to achieve with these talks. well i think these talks will focus on a variety of issues key will be the conflicts that are being created across syria this is where syrian rebels and their families all be moved to and they will be covered by a cease fire but it's a really very controversial issue given the fact that there is a differences over whether who is included among these rebels is what a group deemed as islamist terrorists are covered by this cease fire. code disagree strongly on who are considered terrorists and who are considered rebels that will be a key issue in this in these talks on top of that will be the syrian constitution the creation of a new constitution is seen as providing the framework for a final settlement that is expected to be extremely difficult issue given the fact that all sides to have conflicting views on the future of syria but for now at

least i think despite those counter to views all sides recognize the have to work together to bring an end to the syrian civil war and to ultimately achieve their goals even if many of them are contradictory rebel groups are on the verge of losing control of eastern goods on the outskirts of damascus how might that factor into these talks. well i think in many ways it will be seen as a success of this see these syrian conflict zones because many of these rebels and their families are being moved to the zones particularly some close to the turkish border this is a process of simplifying the math of syrian ultimately providing a future map of the future syria and in many ways however brutal those methods being used by the syrian regime it is seen as ultimately taking syria possibly a step closer to a final settlement. us president. he recently announced

a withdrawal of u.s. troops from syria and he will not be part of that summit in ankara today does washington have any influence left in the syrian conflict. well washington does have one key card it's supporting a syrian kurdish militia the y.p. which controls something up to a third of syria it's been a sensibly in support of the war against the islamic state but increasingly that backing of that militia is seen as providing washington as a card to play in syria making its presence felt and even though trump don't present us president donald trump said he was leaving syria we are getting reports that the pentagon has been deploying forces to support the syrian kurdish militia and that's even kurdish militia is a militia that has places to destroy and one the issues are no one will be in his talks with the iranian and russian presence will be pressing for a further extension of the operation into across syria which ultimately could bring turkey in the u.s. into a conflict which many people believe is putin's key goal in courting ancora dorian
