of establishing the terrorist context of the actions that took place here in brussels she's been discussing the fact that there is islamic state propaganda was found in the safe house where sela of islam and his codefendant sophia and i are we were found where in fact they opened fire on police officers so it's again expected to be a couple of hours until we actually get to the decision on whether our obvious long and iare are guilty of these terrorist crimes ok let's give our viewers now of view of who the suspect was and his. the end of an international manhunt on march eighteenth twenty sixteen belgian special police captured one of the most wanted terrorist suspects in europe salah up to slow believed to be the only surviving suspect in the paris terror attacks that left one hundred thirty people dead in nov twenty fifth up to saddam as a french citizen born in brussels in september one thousand nine hundred nine it's

not yet clear whether he played a major part in planning and executing the pirate attacks but was merely a low level follower after four months on the run of the slum was arrested in march twenty sixth following a shootout with the belgian police the incident these proceedings have focused on. up to slum was present for the first day of the trial since then he has refused to attend court. his lawyers spend mary describes him as a small time criminal who's too stupid to plan a conspiracy in one interview he said abd islam has quote the intelligence of an empty ashtray after all wrapped islam's family has also tried to reinforce this line of defense one of his brothers for instance says up to slum lost his nerve and intentionally failed to set off a suicide bomb vest he was wearing. but it's only at the much bigger trial set to take place in france at a later date the prosecutors will judge up to slums role in the paris attacks themselves. ok let's go back to the courthouse now terry how does
10:05 am
today's verdict fit in with the paris trial for what happened at the bottom and other locations in paris and twenty fifteen. well brian this is a completely separate proceeding other than the fact that obviously allegedly participated in the killings in paris this is related to the days after that when he was on the run as mentioned one of the most wanted men in europe and this took place when police were simply doing some routine checks that became very frequent here in brussels after the attacks knocking on the door of what they believed to be a safe house and suddenly the three men inside opened fire with heavy weapons on them and two of those men were cell of the slum and filthy n.r.e. who are on trial here today the third man was killed and it was later found that there was a lot of islamic state propaganda in that house a lot of heavy weaponry a lot of ammunition so that is what is taking place in the in the courthouse here
10:06 am
today and we're hearing that the judge has established that there was definitely a terrorist context to these crimes and that all three men the deceased and the two men who are on trial here today definitely did take place in a did take part in a terrorist a terrorist action ok this is a very very important statement from from the judge as we wait for that entire verdict to be read out terry all right behind you we're seeing you know all sorts of sorts of barricades an armored vehicle what what about security at this courthouse how intense is that today. it's much less intense than in february when this trial started because neither men showed up today in february when both sell of this lemon so if you and i are we did show up for the first day of this trial it took us hours to get in and you would have seen this yard behind me packed with people journalists in fact even normal employees had to go through very intense security screening just to get to their jobs again neither
10:07 am
man in court today so it's much less intense but we're hoping that we will hear in just a very few minutes whether in fact cell of the slum and sophia and i are we are guilty of terrorist crimes and then of course we'll hear their sentence prosecutors asking for twenty years teri schultz for us at the courthouse there in brussels where this trial verdict is about to be read out were read out in its entirety rather terry thanks so very much so you go look now some of the other stories making the news at this hour. in south korea authorities there have switched off the loudspeakers and uses to blare propaganda across the border to the north the move comes ahead of the first intercalary and summit in a decade the protests include a mixture of new south korean pop music and criticism of the north korean regime.

allow circassian to transition from the largely ceremonial post of president which he served two terms to that of prime minister. public anger has grown at what the opposition perceives as a power grab claiming said it circassian is becoming a leader for life after. the opposition has called the protests the start of a peaceful velvet revolution one they say they'll continue till their demands are met . it's to africa now in public health care in the west african country of togo is in a catastrophic state there's an acute shortage of doctors hospital bed. and medical equipment a medical workers are staging strikes to force the government to increase spending in the area of no that's putting longtime president for an awesome day under pressure our west africa correspondent adrian krege went to the capital lomas largest hospital to see the desperate conditions for him self.
10:14 am
this child was diagnosed with malaria but his high fever won't go away. he's been in the hospital for two weeks and now his mother has run out of money for medicine . i don't have the funds so i went to a private clinic but i soon run out of money and we had to leave. without money they can't do anything that's what they tell you. the only way i can buy medicine is if someone gives me money as a gift. as i haven't eaten anything since this morning. i did son raphael needs to see a specialist but the staff its biggest hospital is on strike only emergency
10:15 am
treatment is available. david stasi is one of the strike leaders and has already been arrested twice as a result the doctor says he has no choice he refuses to support a health care policy that he says is deplorable. a pyramid we've been trained in a profession that meant to cure people of disease. but at the moment we can save any lives. because it's difficult. he says we are on strike to change the situation which is very bad. we don't have enough staff or enough equipment he didn't do that. most of the equipment in the state run hospitals are antiquated and the air conditioning doesn't want. the best shape of the country's health system is not only visible in the capital's biggest hospital it's also visible in the statistics. on average there's only three

health care workers for about ten thousand residents in talk with this is almost four times less than in neighboring ghana and ways below the international standard . opposition groups teachers and doctors have been taking to the streets for months . confront ration erupted over the weekend following a recent protest then. according to the communication minister a commission has been appointed to deal with the health care crisis. shock and we hope we can bring all sides together on this issue with. the government has to take the overall economic situation into consideration. and then decide which problems to address first.
10:17 am
that's something dr david d'arcy says he has heard all too often annoyed. it's clear that this is a government strategy to deal a the process problem. what it communicates doesn't reflect reality that's a shame you get the impression that the government has different priorities than the concrete problems of the population and in a population that's why dr darcy and many of his colleagues say they have no other option than to earn their living in private clinics and stead of the state run hospitals. and it's those very clinics that offer treatment that's an affordable to most took including alice and her son rafael. still to come on the show only goal difference is keep the mines out of the dreaded drop zone they needed all the points they could get as they phased out or get the bonus like

a sunday. some of the highlights. first off here now in the e.u. and mexico signed off on a trade deal with the real message that's right brian global trade relations are under pressure by u.s. president donald trump now mexico and the european union are taking a stand for free trade both sides overhauled an older trade deal now abolishing almost all terrorists between them and mexico's president and he could then he had to says he's optimistic that an overhaul of the north american free trade agreement nafta could also be a deal president has repeatedly threatened to tear up german chancellor angela merkel said multinational corporation was added value for all parties and gave their comments of the opening of the hanover fair of the world's biggest industrial technology for. speed is the message at hand over customers want their products delivered faster and they want to be able to customize them that means speeding up
10:19 am
production and logistics it's a challenge with global reach the fare is therefore considered one of germany's most important annual events underlined by the attendance of german chancellor angela merkel she was joined by mexican president enrique pena nieto whose country is the partner nation for this year's fair. monica and as it would do the tough to sit what's your one germany is doing very well economically at the moment your employment rate is as low as ever. but i recognize that today's numbers aren't tomorrow's prognosis and therefore it's important that we strengthen our innovative skills that this is a child and thus do a little in about to once teach cut it off at the down a can and hand over that innovation translates to automation and machine learning often in the form of robots both require a very fast network that can handle massive data loads in real time. building that network known as five g. is another focus at hanover. growing automation means the line between software and
10:20 am
hardware is blurring take german software giant s a p they've long written programs to drive business logistics now they're writing software to drive and maintain the actual robots in the warehouse. we can connect to essence we can connect to everything actually right so we get the information from the thing to think and tell it tell us how it fits how it is so a machine for example can tell us well i might need maintenance navigating the shifting landscape is urgent for businesses around the world but especially those in germany small and mid-sized manufacturers are key to the country's export economy a frequent concern here is that they're not adapting quickly enough another is that more automation means fewer jobs mexico has its own concerns its industrial economy is under threat with questions hanging over the north american free trade agreement now it needs to diversify it hopes hanover will be

a good first up. german health care company for zeno's has called off its four point four billion euro takeover of u.s. generic strikes make her a core several essential preconditions that were part of the agreement have not been met by acorn freezing is said in statement the acquisition would have been the second largest in the company's history in spite the deal being cancelled was in use is aiming for a stronger foothold in the u.s. generics market a spokesperson said. let's get some more with conrad who is and who is standing by for us in frankfurt conrad for seeing us a sighting severe breaches of data integrity what's behind that. you know christopher all this started a while ago with allegations against acorn anonymous allegations it was tipped off about this by an anonymous letter writer who claimed that in the past acorn had failed to meet a regulation by the u.s. food and drug administration the f.d.a.
10:22 am
and this is about data integrity is all those regulations which means they have to do with the way how data is generated and stored in the process of you know developing and producing and selling generic drugs now because ios says that it has implemented independent inquiry of all this and that this has found out that those that there is some merit to those allegations and that this is so bad that calling off the takeover now is the better way to go i would see shares of prisoners actually rising this morning because people at the stock exchange were not really fond of the deal in the first place why is that. well you know this deal was talked about first nearly exactly a year ago but since then we've seen enormous trouble in the whole sector of generic drugs making teva for example in israel one of the large one of the world's
10:23 am
largest generic drugs makers is in deep trouble last week here in germany merck announced that it plans to sell its generic drugs business to procter and gamble but at a much lower price than originally had planned so many people here were convinced that the prize that because they knew it was about to pay for acorn more than four billion euros was simply too high. in frankfurt thank you. and as dr brian and some breaking news we have this news just coming in christophe a belgian court has found. guilty of attempted murder now he is the only surviving suspect in the two thousand and fifteen paris terror attacks he's on trial in belgium for a police shootout while he was on the run obviously on is in custody in france right now awaiting trial over his role in the paris attacks.

and we'll have more on that in our next bolton let's get to some sports now and sunday's late abundance like a football game cologne did battle with shall cause the billy goats have had a catastrophic season to face relegation but second place have a historically poor record against the long. where there's life there's hope and cologne are still just about hanging on but in child care they faced an opponent from whom they could expect little mercy as was proven in the fourth minute when darby hero now though played a cutting through both say you have been called a plank whose cross to braille mbogo made it impossible for this whisper a word to miss. a rapid counter-attacking goal of that doubt colona painful. and when konoplyanka found himself in acres of space once again he went through the challenge of georgia met a and slid past t.-mo hole in the doubles shout his name. but cologne kept fighting
10:25 am
and were rewarded in the twenty sixth minute when leon bitter court latched on to a fine through bull from your no sector to bring his side back into the game to school and stayed at three one until the eighty fourth minute when a swinging free kick from aso rissa left rather fair man with no chance suddenly cologne could begin to dream. but unfortunately for the billy goats the wayne wasn't to be the last serious chance of the game was squandered by a stumbling john cordoba. two to the final score. a draw in the end at disappointing result for both coaches but was shy to stay in second place look certain to be heading for the second division. and mines headed to oust berg on sunday with only goal difference keeping them out of the drop zone host had beaten them in the reverse fixture and were looking to do
10:26 am
the same again especially with the return of a star forward alfred finn bogus in made his comeback and explored starting line up after three months out injured and he wasted no time showing how important he is to the team the icelandic case set up mikail grigori who opened the scoring in the twenty ninth minute his twelfth goal of the season. one nil for our sport at half time. and it was all outboard in the second half as well in bogus info says can be but denied by defender danny lotsa. i'm but then an injury time minds were pushing for an equaliser and finn bogus and caught them on the break the captain capping an outstanding comeback i'm sure have i'm great to be back on the pitch again i didn't think i would quite last this long in this game but the adrenalin took me over the last thirty minutes out spork have now secured another season in the top flight well mindset still in danger and have some tough games
