a lonely walk down the aisle but final preparations underway excitement is growing in windsor where the wedding will take place will be live with revelers in the street. i'm sorry kelly welcome to the program thanks for joining us german chancellor angela merkel and russian president vladimir putin have rekindled hopes of peace in eastern ukraine at talks in the russian city of sochi putin said that diplomats on both sides would look again at options for deploying a multinational peacekeeping force in the region who also said that the pair had discussed how the iran nuclear deal could be staged following the u.s. withdrawal merkel said the removal of property rights from syrian refugees by president assad was a concern. let's get more now on this summit we are joined by our correspondent
5:02 pm
emily sure one who's standing by with the latest from sochi where it has just taken place so i'm really what were the key takeaways from their comments. well sara to me the key take one of the key takeaways today was the atmosphere of the talks it seemed rather open almost relaxed you could tell that the two leaders have been working together for years that they know each other really rather well and even greeted americal with flowers today and both said that there were constructive talks today despite remaining differences americal even said that you know these problems can only be solved by talking now both though both sides are pushing to salvage the iran nuclear deal after the u.s. left so that's a common goal that they can both hold on to but of course there are stumbling blocks that remain in place after all the crimea and the annexation of the crimean
5:03 pm
peninsula by russia hasn't been forgotten by germany and neither of them mentioned that but when they were asked whether this was a renaissance of russian german ties both kind of didn't really answer the question who said that economic ties had always been strong and americal reassured western partners by saying that transatlantic ties remains strong. ok so interesting neither one they're willing to stick their neck out and say that a significant amount of progress has been made how about when it comes to one of the issues that was on the table in terms of trade because we know that that was very high on the agenda particularly of the north stream pipeline and ukraine's fear of being cut off from gas supplies to the comments on that. they did before this meeting the minister of economic affairs the german minister of economic affairs had come to moscow as well to try and kind of allays fears
5:04 pm
there he was in ukraine before then he came to moscow they went back to ukraine to really reassure the ukrainian side that they would if russia agrees remain a transit country for gas even if this pipeline project continues and today it did seem that there was some progress on not. that ukraine would remain a transit country for gas but he did also leave kind of a back door open and said that they would remain a transit country as long as it was economically viable so there was some progress there but we'll have to see what happens with with that deal and with with the pipeline project as well how about emily on another sticking point because. they very much disagree for example with regard to syria and in particular you know with regard to land ownership there do you see any progress on that front.
5:05 pm
not really when it comes to syria both kind of mentioned the importance of sticking to the existing peace formats for peace talks that those need to continue both of them mentioned the geneva peace talks the peace talks there do seem to be some differences for example merkel is probably not going to have been very happy about the fact that assad made somewhat of a surprise visit to sochi yesterday that putin met with the syrian president here as well and also putin said that there needed to be humanitarian aid coming into the country and that that needed to be agreed with the syrian government so him very much propping up the syrian government there which of course is a sticking point going forward between germany and russia correspondent. joining us from sochi thank you. now let's get a quick check of some other stories that have been making news around the world in one thousand year old syrian man has been charged with bodily harm and slander

after an assault in berlin on an arab israeli wearing a jewish skullcap. the man yelled shoe in arabic and whipped the victim with a belt the victim wore the cap to see if it was dangerous to do so in germany. turkey has called on muslim countries to prevent other nations from following the united states and opening embassies in jerusalem it comes as an emergency summit of islamic countries takes place in istanbul turkey called a meeting in response to the killing of protesters in gaza this week by israeli forces. the world health organization has raised the national threat level of annabelle outbreak in the democratic republic of congo to very high this after the health ministry there confirmed eleven new cases of the virus along with two new suspected deaths that brings the total number of reported cases to forty five the headquarters is rushing to ship in supplies of the vaccine to congo.
5:07 pm
hectic preparations in geneva how to get the vaccine to the democratic republic of congo the temperature has to stay at minus eighty degrees celsius or the doses might not work. two thousand units of the new experimental ebola vaccine are now ready to ship to can shots. in the past in most of the ebola outbreaks in d c it's been rural and fairly self limited but now we know that populations of more than a million are at risk the other major issue here is that the center of he's on the banks of the river congo it's around six hundred kilometers between bun dhaka and the capital kinshasa the congo river connects the two cities and is a heavily used transport route for both people and goods. here grips the capital everyone here recalls the twenty fourteen west african a bola outbreak that killed more than eleven thousand people. so.
5:08 pm
if this is bona outbreak ever reaches can chance you're going to see is. also just very dirty in the city governments and individuals must make an effort to improve sanitation. that's all sun guys said the government must make vaccines ever live for us as well and must bend last gatherings because it is very contagious. international experts are trying to contain the illness the world health organization doctors without borders and the congolese government have set up what they call ring vaccinations it involves immunising the friends family housemates and neighbors of any infected person on a lighter note now we're going to head to that wedding and britain's prince charles is to accompany meghan markle down the aisle after her father was unable to give

5:14 pm
going to work for a little bit just by herself and oh speaking to some of the ladies if you know hoofing camping out just to get a really close a glimpse of the royal couple tomorrow and they really appreciated the said you know it's a sort of side of love that prince charles is doing that he's just generally known as a more aloof character but you know that he should have well comes out of the family in this way and also they really like that she's going a little bit by herself because she's an independent woman and people here like that absolutely in a divorce a i mean something that just would have been unthinkable in the royal family until recently you know the royal wedding really a major media event as well networks around the world have intense interest especially given the she is an american bride she's not british tell us a little bit more about the media fever. but for the american brokaw's in particular is an absolutely massive event event it's the american dream
