news live from orlando peace hopes revived for eastern ukraine russia's president meets germany's chancellor in the black sea resort of sochi putin says both sides will reconsider options for a multinational peacekeeping mission we'll go live to sochi also coming up the world health organization braces the national threat level of an ebola outbreak in the democratic republic of congo's to do very high and there have been twenty five deaths so far and that wedding meghan mark boal has been saved to a lonely walk down the aisle after her future father in law prince charles has agreed to accompany her to the altar after her own father was unable to travel with final preparations underway excitement is growing at a legal go live to the revelers on the streets of windsor castle.
6:01 pm
i'm sorry kelly welcome to the program thanks for joining us. german chancellor angela merkel and russian president vladimir putin have rekindled hopes of peace in eastern ukraine at talks in the russian city of sochi putin said that diplomats on both sides would look again at options for deploying a multinational peacekeeping force in the region also saying that the pair had discussed nuclear deal could be saved following the u.s. withdrawal while marable said that's the removal of property rights from syrian refugees by president assad was a concern. let's get more now on this summit we are joined by our correspondent emily sherwin who is standing by with the latest from sochi where it has just taken place so really what were the key takeaways from their comments.
6:02 pm
well they are to me the key take one of the key takeaways today was the atmosphere of the talks it seemed rather open almost relaxed you could tell that the two leaders have been working together for years that they know each other really rather well and even greeted americal with flowers today and both said that there were constructive talks today despite remaining differences americal even said that you know these problems can only be solved by talking now both though both sides are pushing to salvage the iran nuclear deal after the u.s. left so that's a common goal that they can both hold on to but of course there are stumbling blocks that remain in place after all of the crimea the annexation of the crimean peninsula by russia hasn't been forgotten by germany and neither of them mentioned that but when they were asked whether this was a renaissance of russian german ties both kind of didn't really answer the question
6:03 pm
hootin said that economic ties had always been strong and americal reassured western partners by saying that transatlantic ties remains strong. ok so interesting there one they're willing to stick their neck out and say that a significant amount of progress has been made how about when it comes to one of the issues that was on the table in terms of trade because we know that that was very high on the agenda particularly the north stream pipeline and ukraine's sphere of being cut off from gas supplies to the comments on that. they did before this meeting the minister of economic affairs the german minister of economic affairs had come to moscow as well to try and kind of allays fears there he was in ukraine before then he came to moscow they went back to ukraine to really reassure the ukrainian side that they would if russia agrees remain
6:04 pm
a transit country for gas even if this pipeline project continues and today it did seem that there was some progress on not. that ukraine would remain a transit country for gas but he did also leave kind of a back door open he said that they would remain a transit country as long as it was economically viable so there was some progress there but we'll have to see what happens with with that deal and with with the pipeline project as well how about emily on another sticking point because merkel and putin they very much disagree for example with regard to syria and in particular you know with regard to land ownership there do you see any progress on that front. not really when it comes to syria both kind of mentioned the importance of sticking to the existing peace the formats for peace talks that those need to continue both of them
6:05 pm
mentioned the geneva peace talks the astronaut peace talks there do seem to be some differences for example merkel is probably not going to have been very happy about the fact that assad made somewhat of a surprise visit to such a yesterday that putin met with the syrian president here as well and also putin said that there needed to be humanitarian aid coming into the country and that that needed to be agreed with the syrian government so him very much propping up the syrian government there which of course is the sticking point going forward between germany and russia correspondent our family sure when joining us from sochi thank you. now let's get a quick check of some other stories that have been making news around the world authorities in texas say that at least eight people have been killed in a shooting at a high school in the town of santa fe near houston this is fact and shooter is now in police custody and another person has been detained officials say that at least three people are being treated for gunshot wounds. turkey has called on muslim

nations to try and stop more countries from relocating their israeli embassies to jerusalem as the u.s. this week turkey hosted an emergency summit of islamic countries to show support of palestinians dozens of whom were killed by israeli forces during the border protests earlier this week. and the recently out city malaysian prime minister najah is to appear before the country's anti corruption body and malaysian official has said that's after police raided properties connected to najeh where they say that they found hundreds of handbags and suitcases stuffed with cash and jewelry the raids are part of an investigation into billions of dollars stolen from state funds. well the world health organization has raised the national threat level of in a bowl outbreak in the democratic republic of congo to very high this after the health ministry there confirmed eleven new cases of the virus along with two new suspected
6:07 pm
deaths that brings the total number of reported cases to forty five the headquarters is rushing to ship supplies of vaccines to congo. hectic preparations in geneva how to get the vaccine to the democratic republic of congo the temperature has to stay at minus eighty degrees celsius or the doses might not work. two thousand units of the new experimental ebola vaccine are now ready to ship to can shots. in the past in most of the breaks in the sea it's been rural and fairly self limited but now we know that populations of more than a million are at risk the other major issue here is that this center of he's on the banks of the river. it's around six hundred kilometers between bund dhaka and the capital kinshasa the congo river connects the two cities and is a heavily used transport route for both people and goods fear grips the

capital everyone here recalls the twenty fourteen west african a bola outbreak that killed more than eleven thousand people. so. if this outbreak ever reaches can chasa we're going to see his. government must make vaccines ever live for us as well and must ben last gatherings because it is very contagious. international experts are trying to contain the illness the world health organization doctors without borders and the congolese government have set up what they call ring vaccinations it involves immunising the friends family housemates and neighbors of any infected person. you're watching news still to come on the program a new eruption from hawaii killer whale volcano sends a cloud of ash almost ten kilometers into the sky authorities have handed out
6:09 pm
around two thousand gas masks and prince charles has stepped in to help megan marco from a lonely walk down the aisle at tomorrow's wild wedding excitement as we're going and we will be a lot with revelers in the streets of windsor. but first daniel winter is here with some anxiety on the markets that's right a very tough time for italy right now it's been two and a half months but they've finally reached a deal italian parties the five star movement and the league have put together their plan to govern the country gone the leaked proposals to scrap for the euro and the last for a massive debt forgiveness from the european central bank so what's left monti passkey shares tumbled sharply on thursday after the new coalition proposed scrapping restructuring plans of the world's oldest bank monti passkey is still unstable despite an eight billion euro state rescue last year its size makes it the
6:10 pm
biggest threat to italy's financial system the possibility of ending measures aimed at nursing the bank back to health have made investors perry nervous. the euro's under pressure to the new government also promised tax cuts and increased public spending implementing the plans would cost billions of euros but italy has the highest debt levels in the e.u. after greece the e.u. is anxious that shortsighted economic policy in italy could lead to the next hero crisis and donald cope is following this for a stunner it looks like italian markets are creaking under the pressure. yes they are under pressure it's not a crash that we're seeing but yes you can clearly see that investors over there in italy are very nervous what this new government is going to bring the country because of this nervousness we are seeing a lot of full tilt volatility of there at the stock exchange during the trading day this is actually very interesting because usually the trading day there is not very
6:11 pm
volatile or something like that we usually see more happening for example at the london stock exchange sometimes here in frankfurt as well already this morning close to noon by that time as many traits were executed compared to the normal average daily volume and they don't even selling all of their stocks it seems that more defensive shares are very much demanded today also we continue to see a loss in bond two years and once again because of this uncertainty the euro has been dropping to the lowest point now in five months this is also making investors a bit nervous here and frankfurt as well the blue chip index stocks closed with a loss of zero point three percent at a level of thirteen thousand and seventy seven points ok volatile horse trading in italy the two parties leaders have accused the markets all of blackmail do they even know how financial markets work. well in this is already had big doubts about that during this week when the first details were leaked by the halflings and poles
6:12 pm
of this draft coalition paper about a basic income guarantee also asking the e.c.b. to give italy a two hundred fifty billion euro debt relief and you know we heard it it was on the agenda or maybe even to leave the euro zone so there is some relief now that in fact this was only a draft and we don't find this anymore in the actual coalition paper but still they are warry to investors also with those new programs that they are thinking that could help to reduce the enormous debt those could cost up to one hundred and one hundred billion euros so yes investors are worried in which direction the country will be heading throughout the next years you know. whatever happens our markets as one rule don't take it personally daniel cope thank you very much. the diesel emissions scandal continues and this time it's luxury brand porsche that's lost in the small again the german transport ministry has ordered the com make it to recall around sixty thousand cars globally ordered has discovered illegal defeat devices
6:13 pm
in the diesel powered s.u.v. models kyin and mccann these make emissions seem relatively low under test conditions get they could be significantly higher when driving on the road porsche says it will take full responsibility to fix the affected vehicles. mass tourism is somewhat of a modern di lemma accept the cash that foreigners bring to drive development and help locals but accept too much of a risk over crowding and angering citizens budget headlines and cheap accommodation make it easier to travel than ever before and main top destinations are taking drastic measures to cope just take venice with its twenty two million tourists a year where crowd control can be a major problem the city has now set up gates at the entrances to the historic center to help control the flow of bumbling travelers and prevent bottlenecks. amsterdam has also decided enough so enough new shops are banned from opening in
6:14 pm
the historic center if they mainly cater to tourists this is the m. stadium cheese company's top product a ten month mature gooda also available in a gift box with a well known dutch painters name on it. couldn't call for open the fifth branch of his store last october in central amsterdam but at the same time a band came into force that prevented the opening of new tourist shops. i don't know if you're going to solve anything by closing a cheese store i think what you need to do and those are very serious and difficult discussions is to look at some to the demand side how are we going to manage that so many people come to these european cities and how that so many flights coming in that so many bookings are mates and the decisions need to be made on that level i'm certain i am is a vibrant place with a lot to offer which is why seventeen million tourists come every year the city is
6:15 pm
now trying to stem the flow renting apartments to holidaymakers is now subject to registration and no new hotels are allowed to open the city has also stopped advertising. and there's a new strategy. so what we've decided about a year ago is that we're have implemented a new zoning policy which basically says that we are reducing or we're limiting the number of shops that cater exclusively to tourists so no more new shops that cater to tourists and that she's company is an example of that. the myriad of souvenir shops and fast food places have become a thorn in the local side many welcome the move that's been coined operation nutella for the countless nutella stores. i think it's perfect. because they ruined us an explosion of gnutella stores. and it's one of the reasons
6:16 pm
why i don't know normal stores where you can buy stockings or just bread because. the shops are all full. so i live if you forty is forty four years the first twenty years were quiet and ok that's the last ten years. it's very very busy in the city putting code still doesn't know what's happening with his new branch he's taking the city to court saying they passed the ban unannounced when he'd already signed a long term lease and where do you draw the line about what exactly is a tourist chopper that might be up to the judge. and now to a halt to tourist destination you probably should stay away from exactly we're talking about hawaii check this out the erupting kill away a volcano on hawaii's big island it has sent a massive ash cloud into the sky kill away or has been active for thirty five years
6:17 pm
but recent rumblings and fissures have sent lava flowing into nearby neighborhoods authorities have close schools and issued warnings about toxic gas but some residents are refusing to evacuate. the volcano continues to keep residents of wise biggest island on a laughter from the fishes destroyed dozens of homes and forced evacuation of some two thousand people. to add to the chaos on thursday a plume of ash exploded violently from the volcano is crater the powerful eruption was triggered by magma turning underground water into stain like was captured images of the ominous cloud. basically what we're seeing here is there's a massive cloud that wind up into the sky but it looks got a stagnant. kind of just sitting there growing really high interest rate and go different directions. authorities warn people to stay inside and distributed mass
6:18 pm
to god against dangerous gases. there are increasing levels of some of sulfur dioxide in various areas it's a reason for the alert. and also the school closures. pilots were told to avoid flying on the mountain authorities remained on alert for more modern tech to vittie but we just want to remind the community and those on the island to be safe you know to listen to the trends you know they are broadcasting what should be done in this kind of. event you know they should stay tuned void the areas where the eruption is active scientists are unable to predict how long the explosive activity will continue. to tennis
6:19 pm
and the italian open ended this reaching its latter stages in rome on thursday germany's top ranked player aus and swear of was in action having won this tournament last year he's among the favorites for the title but he faced a tough competition in the last sixteen. and nail biting finish for world number three alexander spare of sporting an old black number as carl edmond proved a full medieval opponent britain's number one kept him on his toes as both sets went into a tie break marathon rallies like this one meant that the german was held back for a seven match points eventually he sealed the deal on the eighth attempt at the end of this twenty two bull rally. spirit has cemented his place as the world's third best player with a win at the madrid open last week and is on course for a title defense here. later on move back joke which also booked his place in the quarter finals beating spaniard i'll bet that almost no loss in straight sets.
6:20 pm
it's the very first quarter final appearance of the season for the former world number one who has struggled with injury in recent years to face japan's came to she koori next. excitement is building across the u.k. and abroad of course ahead of tomorrow's well wedding between prince harry and the american actress meghan markle crowds have been gathering outside of windsor castle near london where the couple are due to marry more than one hundred thousand people are expected to flock to the town to catch a glimpse of the happy couple there is heightened security across windsor but by all fans are making the most of the big event. and our correspondent there to mass is standing by with the latest from windsor and very good and we can see the people there behind you just walk us through what the atmosphere has been like. the atmosphere is absolutely joely i have to say many people have have come here
6:21 pm
already ahead of the big day several of them are going to come and you know i'm in front of windsor castle there are crowds behind me and also all the way i can see to the end of the so-called long walk some people have come from really far away some people have come from a stranger from canada and they are determined to catch just a tiny glimpse of their all couple and my colleague as much as i have spoken to several of them and we also tried to catch our own glimpse of the couple here's a report. on that. and say. things. tired but very very happy that's the mood of these royal sukkot fans it's been camping out food days to secure their prime spot just a stone's throw away from windsor castle we're not allowed ten so we're literally under the stalls out in the wind and the cold is very cold last night and any time

6:25 pm
agreed that it's a really nice sign because prince charles often is seen as somebody who is maybe a bit aloof and this is you know a sign that he's warming daughter in law he excepts her and yeah i agree to into the royal family and i have to say i i agree with that also she's going to work a few steps by herself and the lady she said you know that's also really positive she's an independent woman so. you know positive words for all this all runs absolutely and all of this you know the media really getting a very close look so much media at this event networks around the world of course having an intense interest in the fact that she is also an american bride tell us a little bit more about the media fever. well it's an absolutely immense interest from from media five thousand british journalists have been accredited but also seventy nine american not and affiliates you know it's the american princes in
