ability for the attack which killed all two hundred and ninety eight people on board and is it on or is it all after conciliatory words from pyongyang u.s. president donald trump says that his summit with north korean leader kim jong un could take place after all. i'm sorry kelly walking to the program hollywood film producer harvey weinstein has been released on a one million dollars bail after appearing before a manhattan court he was charged with rape and sex abuse involving encounters with two women weinstein agreed to wear an electronic monitor and refrain from traveling beyond new york and connecticut the movie producer was toppled from hollywood's highest ranks last year after dozens of women accused him of misconduct weinstein's lawyer said that his client will plead not guilty. and correspondent james

ryan also has more now from new york he joins us from there now so tell us james i mean weinstein expected to plead not guilty here of course there are so many women out there dozens of women who say he is a liar he is that of buse or should we expect a fierce courtroom battle in the weeks and the months to come. yeah i think we can definitely say that it looks right now though we're headed towards a gripping courtroom showdown and what you've just described this drama surrounding the me too movement on the one hand you have the prosecutors they say they have enough evidence to convict the sixty six year old hollywood mogul on the other hand weinstein maintains his innocence but there's one thing which is important about this case like you say of course dozens and dozens of women have come forward with their tales of abuse sex attacks. at the hands of wine

stain when they were looking for jobs over in los angeles among them hollywood a list the. back and so there's a really long list of course but the case against weinstein is it withstands what he was charged for today of course it doesn't cover everything the one of these incidents it relates to two specific alleged attacks against two women one of them in twenty and another in two thousand and four so if this does go to trial which is what it looks like it's going to the case is going to focus chiefly on what those two women say happened to them at the hands of weinstein and of course what the hollywood producer says in return and do we know how solid the cases are from the district attorney against him. it's a black box really of course the prosecutor the district attorney is going to play is called close to his testimony one until he goes before. before trial and opens
9:04 pm
his case we do know a few things that we know that the prosecutors obviously had several options dozens of allegations of being ahead against harvey weinstein since those original claims came out in the new york times the new and the new yorker magazine towards the end of last year so the prosecutors have doubtless picked the best case is the cases that are most likely to thick against weinstein we have had manhattan district attorney cyrus are judea saying he has a solid case that he said that the charges against weinstein reflect the progress in this active ongoing investigation and i think when he said those words ongoing investigation you have to think that maybe these two allegations. over the past ten or so years maybe not the only ones that are going to go before trial. james right now with the latest from new york where as we mentioned harvey weinstein facing charges there he might not be the last one to fall from grace we thank you so much for your reporting for well some other news now the netherlands and

the truth and for later maybe aren't very extreme in the passenger plane was shot down with the back of me asylum the disputed area of eastern ukraine in july twenty fourth jane after years of investigation experts have concluded that the missile was the property of the russian army officials from the e.u. and nato as well as the governments of the u.s. and germany back in the netherlands claim. russia should tissue more sponsibility for this so the tragedy can be fully explained and the guilty parties can be held accountable. and. it was a national tragedy for the netherlands nearly two thirds of the victims were dutch four germans were also among the dead. it's a night. we stand with the victims' loved ones especially on a day like this ones the kremlin rejects all accusations and demands more evidence of russia's guilt for the shooting down

9:11 pm
it we'd like to do it we're going to see what happens. everybody plays you know that you know that that is a. while trump plays hard to get kim jong il appears to be staying cool the north korean state news agency issued a conciliatory statement saying kim was willing to give the u.s. time to reconsider its decision. but the prospect of cancellation has touched off protests in asia and the south korean students see trumps flip flopping as a danger to world peace. soul is hoping to keep negotiating on track for me and i mean when you're gone i think all parties hope the problem can still be resolved through dialogue which the south korean government remains committed to continuing talks and of course in the meanwhile the japanese leader threw his support behind trump the big chill of. this cancellation is regrettable
9:12 pm
but i support the u.s. president with such a summit would have to bring clear progress on pyongyang's nuclear missile issue he said along that the world is now waiting for the next sign from trump to see if he's really walking away from the summit. for more let's bring in claire richardson who is standing by with the latest from washington so clear you know as we see here more back and forth on whether this summit could actually go ahead to we know why president trump appears to be changing his mind again. hi sarah well term supporters would say that this is all part of his grand strategy that it's a tough negotiating tactic that's meant to actually extract more concessions from north korea and they have praised him for walking away from this meeting because there is such a wide gap between expectations we know now that there's a date and there was there had been a date in a place for it obviously june twelfth in singapore but aside from that it was not clear what was on the agenda who was going to be there any of the nitty gritty details that are so important to the off chance of
9:13 pm
a meeting like this i had not been sorted out now his detractors would say that that was not the case at all and that was in fact so desperate for a political victory at home to be seen as the man who was able to bring kim jong un to the negotiating table that he was willing to risk alienating american allies and even risk war just because he needed to pull out of this meeting because he was so wildly unprepared to go to the negotiating table let's get a little deeper into those nitty gritty details that are so fuzzy claire do we have any idea what sort of diplomatic wrangling is going on in the background at the moment. sure i think there's wrangling on all levels we heard defense secretary james mattis say today that diplomats are in talks he suggested that there could be good news for the meeting to go ahead as scheduled if these diplomats can pull it off and it may be back on even for june twelfth also important i think to look at what china stands to gain in all of this and they would benefit for more time
9:14 pm
ahead of a meeting between him and trump in securing their own interests and trump in fact accused president xi of are you suggesting that president xi may have even said during his talks with kim jong un that the north koreans need to be more careful about giving up too much too soon so i think both trump and north korea have in some ways left the door open to future talks and certainly there will be a lot of diplomatic wrangling going on behind the scenes to see what comes next there is definitely a sense that anything indeed is possible claire richardson with the latest from washington thank you. quick reminder now the top story that we've been following for you here at the w. a new york court has charged former film producer harvey weinstein with a break and sexual assault charges coming after dozens of allegations of sexual misconduct against him weinstein has been released on bail and is expected to plead
9:15 pm
