could be addressed as things start between the north korean leader and president trump seems to be back on track. in the next sixty minutes of saving the world or at least the european union from class to ground zero forced to ban a whole range of products and cut the twenty six million tons of plastic waste generates every year. italy's new caretaker prime minister has funds to do all he can to steer the country out of its political crisis but garlock got out early doesn't plan to stay in office for long he's promised fresh elections by the beginning of next year the president of italy ask utterly to form

a government after the collapse of what would have been italy's fast populist administration over the weekend. this is the man with the mandate to form italy's interim government a moderate and former official at the international monetary fund he is a firm believer in the european union and the single currency. a dialogue with europe to defend our interests is essential we can do better than we did in the past but it has to be a constructive dialogue fully acknowledging that as a founding member our continuous participation in the eurozone remains essential. after the coalition parties put forward a staunch euro skeptic as the economy and finance minister the president pulled the emergency brake rejecting the formation of a new government. it's the establishment versus the new kids on the block an

italian politics. the president trying to keep what he considers to be tenuous populist policies leaders of the coalition parties in turn accuse the political old guard of acting autocratically. it seems anyone who has criticized the euro or europe is considered to be no good as a minister. if this is the case we have a big problem in italy. it's called democracy this is not a free democracy. the league in five star parties had spent days drawing up a coalition pact aimed at ending a stalemate following inconclusive elections in march their agenda is to tear up the political rulebook but they may have gone too far shoppers in rome seem to side with the president. i am absolutely pro european and i believe that italy is

connected and must have a connection review it for future. of the people at a certain point the president who looks after the constitution sees that things are moving in a direction that he doesn't want in my opinion he simply applied the constitution. you have to. some took the political turmoil with a sense of humor you know after october coup it's the same old ministry but we are totally and so it's normal we managed to get by so viva tahlia. that. if really is confirmed by a majority in parliament he will plan for new elections next year if he fails to go near enough support to tell you could be heading to the polls again much sooner. and for more let's go live to rome correspondent josephine mckenna is standing by

joseph inc i look at it really seems to say italy's position in the e.u. and the eurozone is at stake in this political crisis tell us more about what he said. well that was a very strong message on race when he first announced that he was taking up this position he said he was very honored to do so and he said that the euro was central to italy's future and italy's role in europe was also essential so that was a very strong message that's consistent with what president soja material has been saying all along he feels the same way so the two of them appear to be in sync as you mentioned it's not clear just how long. maybe in this position he's going to have trouble getting a vote of confidence in the parliament and his term of office could be short lived now that to me during a skeptic populous parties which like trying to form a coalition government feel cheated out of their mandate out the right. well italy is very divided right now there are some who feel that president soja much
4:06 pm
a relic is a hero others feel he's the villain and i've even seen the word coup d'etat mentioned here they feel that he some people feel that he stepped out of line but it's consistent for a president to offer advice and consultation on any list of cabinet ministers that are proposed and he felt very strongly that the position of finance minister that was supposed to go to palace of honor if you're a skeptic economist who's and he germany was inappropriate he gently tried to discourage the parties from pressing for mr savannah and when they failed to do that he took action so it's really a divisive issue right now and if there is a care taker government just being what will it look like. well right now the prime minister designate caracol terrelle is drawing up
4:07 pm
a list of proposed cabinet ministers we may for example see a lineup of technocrats including francesco trunk of for example he was the commissioner of the road between two thousand and fifteen and two thousand and sixteen when a former man was pushed out and he did quite a very quite a good job as an administrator for the city of rome so we're likely to see people like that lining up judges academics economists perhaps rather than politicians that's also going to make mr cultural his job very difficult pushing this through parliament we've also we've already seen indications from forte's italia silvio berlusconi's party and the league that they will not support this proposed cabinet line up in a vote of confidence in the column and so we're more than likely looking at elections in september running josephine mckenna in rome thank you very much for that life update from there. then joins me now and of course ben invest is

watching that political turmoil keenly a recipe for market turmoil for sure and rita matter rather at a rally and volatility that's certainly got them extremely worried italy's political stalemate nearing three months now is driving financial markets mad they cheered on the president's refusal to appoint your skeptics the finance minister you'd think naming and economists got ready to leave the country until you were lections would boost sentiment even further there was relief among traders in milan when markets opened their leading italian share index left by one point eight percent the euro saw an upswing two afterall a new government dominated by euro and germany skeptics could have seen italy step out of the euro zone but now watch who will end up governing italy this uncertainty made indexer slide again over the course of the day. you know what i mean. the
4:09 pm
markets don't know who will end up governing italy or more likely there will be a temporary technical government but we don't know for how long we've had many of them a very in lengths but the markets need just one thing certainty. new elections won't be called before the fall and whoever wins has a heap of challenges ahead italy is two point three trillion euros in debt that's the equivalent of one hundred thirty two percent of its g.d.p. should the european central bank and its low interest rate policy italy would face higher interest payments which could lead to financial collapse unemployment is at around ten point two percent but in areas like calabria sicily and sardinia youth unemployment is over fifty percent. labor market reforms are only slowly being implemented and several governments have already proved unable to get a handle on the vast state debt for the latest from frankfurt over to

a financial correspondent conrad booze and conrad three months of political uncertainty and we could have another three months ahead of us that's something that the buckets just love. only if you really love volatility if you really make your money with betting on you know heavy ups and downs swings but serious economists have become more concerned again they predict that all this will have a negative impact on business sentiment in italy that italian companies will likely to spend less and vest less in the upcoming months sure and says by early the man who was appointed to lead this new entering government italy have not done much to help you know encourage investors let's take a listen to what he had to say today. then you can rejoice. in the last few days tensions on the financial markets have increased however the italian economy is
4:11 pm
still growing and public accounts are under control. role if i can absolutely assure you that a government led by me would ensure a careful management of our public accounts. which will cover let's see if he can convince markets over the next few months if he stays in power as prime minister designate that that long that is tell me though at the same time what's happening with the e.c.b. how does this all affect the european central bank because it's been buying up a lot of italian bonds. absolutely the discussion is heating up again whether all this will have an impact on the phasing out of quantitative easing on the end of those bond purchases that the european central bank for now has planned to happen by the end of september many traders here saying that the
4:12 pm
e.c.b. cannot proceed as planned of course everyone is aware that it's a lead needs support from the central bank the economy has needed it for years and will continue to do so and there's the contagion risk the risk that investors start losing confidence in other countries of the eurozone because of the fact that they lose confidence in one country in this case italy oh there's another word the markets love conrads not just political uncertainty but contagion thank you very much for your analysis. that we all need a superhero don't we have british that's right and we have a superhero in paris a refugee from ali's been offered french citizenship off his daring rescue of a child. was hailed as a hero and has been compared to spiderman off the land the facade of an apartment block in paris and plucked the youngster to safety his bravery has been honored by the french president. with no thought for his own safety mumu ducasse some of

on a shopping trip gone to the shops to get some groceries and then on the way back apparently according to media reports he was playing a video game pachmann go that actually had the fact that he got back to the apartment as planned and in the meantime this happened actually there's some difficulty that a mom of the ghazala was in france illegally what is known about him and his circumstances. this can to deter information floating around now i've been talking to the palace and they have confirmed to me that he was what the french call some that means he doesn't have french papers but it doesn't mean that he's illegal in france actually he seems to have italian papers he got to italy a few years back and then applied for asylum which he was granted and that aside and gives him the right to travel around in europe it doesn't give him the right to work in other countries though and that's how the situation might have been illegal
4:16 pm
so far that's not confirmed that we do know from interviews that he gave that and i'm moved to gave himself to french media to french t.v. that he write in france in september two thousand and seventeen and was up until now he's been living at a migrant out of paris he's obviously hoping to get french nationality french citizenship and the government is saying basically if you five right now we were granted and we will now right now give you a temporary residence permit so that you can stay here legally and also work in france. right iliza loose in pharisaic you've a matter of being as up to date on that story office of behavior in the french cafeteria. let me now bring you up to date with some other stories making news around the world colombia is headed for a runoff presidential election in june after candidates failed to secure fifty percent of the votes needed in sunday's vote conservative first this finish iran do

straws and cotton bags the e.u. generates twenty six million tons of plastic waste every year and e.u. commission vice president france to milan says it's time that changed the aim is to prevent plastic from ending up in the sea the proposal still need the approval of the parliament and the individual member states a process that could take many months in the meantime one grocery store in the german city of mines is already leading the way it's become a plastic free zone. everything you would expect to find in a supermarket but nothing that is packed in plastic. instead customers bring their own containers. this store in the western german city of mine's open three years ago and since then the customer base has tripled. they bring in their own jars they've had to reorganize things a bit i would say they've evolved and this evolution has happened quickly. there's
4:19 pm
pretty much nothing i'm missing and i've stocked up on everything i need for the next week or two. coal pollution through plastic waste has reached dramatic levels especially in the oceans prompting the european commission to act. a new directive aims to prohibit single use plastic straws plates and cutlery e.u. member states of an expected to turn the directive into law but a great part of this initiative is to initiate a discussion about plastic mice that we end up burning most of the plastic that gets returned to us that very little of it actually gets really used and it's not like we're avoiding using it just the opposite there is more and more plastic it will take years for the new laws to take effect yet time is of the essence experts are afraid that within thirty years there will be more plastic than fish to be found in the oceans. and for more on the story i have with me in the studio did obviously tamzin walker was trying to live a life without plastic welcome to the senate but tell me why did you make this
4:20 pm
attempt and is this an impossible challenge why don't it's impossible but i did it because at some point or other i read a statistic that said the number of toothbrushes thrown away annually are equivalent in weight to seven hundred seventy five thousand cars i'm not sure if it's really true that this is it but it got me thinking right if we just throw it just that the toothbrushes they get thrown away they don't get recycled and plastic it doesn't you know it's going to be around five hundred years after we've gone so i thought ok i've got to make some kind of contribution by decreasing the amount of plastic i saw what was the most difficult part in trying to do this well and encouraging my kids to get on board is a little bit difficult to begin with but then they were on board and then i was actually trivial things like toilet. paper tooth paste toilet paper you can actually or is it possible to buy in a shop without plastic and i ended up having to order it from munich in a large cardboard box which is also environmentally questionable but i thought just this on this one occasion i would do it just to see if i could actually do the
4:21 pm
whole thing to paste was difficult i ended up making that myself with with coconut oil and by cups soda and a little bit of peppermint oil. and just i mean it's all difficult in actual fact fruit and vegetable they can do that no problem but so if you want something like rice or pulses beans all of this stuff you have to go to a place where they're not wrapped right to sell so it's not the product itself it's actually developing which is the biggest problem i it's all about the wrapping it's all it's all wrapped and i mean there is a shop in here in the city where you can go and buy things that you know they're just in large containers and you fill it into your own little paper bags or your own containers that you take with you but it's not very close to where i live and it's also a little bit more expensive it is a really good idea and i think i should be an awful lot more places like absolutely because the big supermarkets are all triflin plastic the are trying to reduce it in germany they make you pay for plastic bags as a disincentive to actually use them how long did you last in any life without
4:22 pm
plastic so i went for a month initially and it was much easier than i thought it would be and then i extended it by another two months and each month i just had one small jar of plastic and that was that was it and what about now so now i have i have tried to keep it up as as much as i possibly can i will be honest and say that i'm not one hundred percent plastic free and certain things have crept back in but cleaning products fruit vegetables cosmetics all of that stuff i still am largely plastic free so tempted in your inspiration your example is inspirational but has this issue captured the imagination of the general public we are seeing who fixed or is about oceans littered with us take what i would say that. yeah the imagination of the public has been captured and there's an awful lot more that's being done now than there was when i did this experiment which was already over a year ago. you know you see a lot more people who are writing about not having plastic the e.u.
4:23 pm
is bringing in all kinds of proposals to to do away with plastic cotton buds straws cutlery all of those things which puzzle and when used anyway but you know i think yeah there is there is a growing awareness and that is important so as you see it can be done and you're an example of how to do it stands and walker thank you very much for sharing your story with us. mr head for turkey which goes to the polls in four weeks time after president drunk or snap presidential and parliamentary elections here and a half ahead of shed you edge one is the clear favorite to win the presidential race but he's facing opposition from an alliance of parties that includes the republican people sparty or sci fi didn't we spoke to my head an inch of the c.h.p. presidential candidate and one of to his fiercest opposition voices. mark my focus is on three things first making peace second arc anomic development and third fair

c.h.p. strongholds and yes i'm injured was recently announced as their presidential candidate had a man who has been active in turkish politics for years but who hasn't gotten his chance for running for such an important office yet so now he is trying to present himself as an attorney to have to miss to add one he clearly says and he said that in our interview as well that he wants to repass strained relations with the european union he wants to turn turkey back or bring turkey back on the reform track he also criticizes mr add one for his mega projects and status symbols he says for example as president he wouldn't use the huge presidential palace in ankara but rather turned that building into a university for people to use so what i'm in just call promises in this election campaign are democracy justice and economic reforms that really benefit the people
4:26 pm
i'm talking about economic reform the economy is always a big issue in the election campaign you mean reporting a mud record inflation on the country's currency being in freefall and then bouncing back let's just take a listen to what i have been in she had to say about the economy turkey is now a free market economy and you can bring your money in freely but the government is considering. their money abroad why would any investor come in the current situation even turkish investors don't invest money in turkey. they all move their capital elsewhere. you can't regulate the economy with policing measures when we get elected we will solve these problems in three months by working with experts and applying universal principles and laws. so strong message to his supporters here but does let them in check even stand a chance against a president briefly if you can. well the economic

situation really is an issue it frustrates many people here so mr engine knows how to use that he is a talented and charismatic speaker as well like missed out on so he can certainly challenge him on that level but nobody here things that he will make the necessary fifty percent majority in the first round but the opposition's best hope is that mr atwan will not make the fifty percent either so he can be forced into a second round of voting against a single opposition candidate but one really important thing all of this is happening under emergency law which means all kinds of things for candidates and campaigns and rights groups say the media landscape here is overwhelmingly in favor of the government of mr aired on so is this going to be a fair election this is the big question right here in istanbul thank you very much for that. you're watching did you have videos coming up ahead today vermont's five years since anti-government protests erupted in istanbul is gezi park when major

their arrival has risen expectational is at the meeting between kim jong un and donald trump will indeed take place despite trumps having cancelled it last week and preparations for that meeting in singapore are underway but not everything is what it seems take a look. could it be supreme leader kim jong un strolling along the singapore waterfront a good two weeks before the long awaited u.s. north korean summits premiss drought will come or if it was waiting to turn up. even with the australian accent many singaporeans were full by kim impersonator howard x. he predicted the meeting will be a success. but i think that it's the two leaders will sit down together and they're going to have a great time because really they have to say. personality and really didn't they're the same person so i think he would be best friends right after this meeting.
4:32 pm
meanwhile the real kim was in the demilitarized zone at a surprise meeting with the southern counterparts they say the meeting with trumpets back on but is it let's start from the beginning and an exchange of bombs . they will be met with fire and fury little rocket man little rocket man rocket man is a sick puppy olympic diplomacy follows in february and pyongyang extends an invitation to meet donald trump i'll be meeting with kim jong un in the coming weeks at the end of april the leaders of north and south korea meet for the first time kim jong un crosses into the south. and mungy and crosses into the north they agree to work toward formally ending the korean war. in may john yang extends an olive branch and releases three american prisoners i think he did this because i really think he wants to do something. to weeks later

kim jong un appears to make good on a promise detonating parts of his only known nuclear testing site then washington throws a curve ball citing his still ity in the reason north korean comments decided to terminate the plant summit in singapore in june twelfth then just one day later another turnaround the meeting is back on the table trump's explanation provided you know that back at the surprise meeting over the weekend the south korean president says the north is committed to complete denuclearization but acknowledges that kim and trump might have differing expectations of what that means. meanwhile trump is back to sending confidence signals so we're looking at june twelfth in singapore that hasn't changed. and we're along pretty well so we'll see what happens what happens next is anyone's guess back in singapore no one knows if the meeting will take place this could be the only incarnation of kim jong

berlin it's a gathering of leaders in science politics and business one of the biggest issues that tackling is the reshuffling of the world order between europe china and the united states. he's certainly no fan of global free trade since donald trump took office he's renegotiated several key trade agreements and backed out of others foreign steel and recently cars are all according to trump a national security threat and he's fighting back with import tariffs trump's isolationist path is part of the strategy he wants to give domestic companies an edge in the u.s. markets american made cars for example are often less popular than german ones. but the u.s. is new direction is helping foster new bilateral coalitions germany and china affirmed their joint commitment to global free trade during chancellor angela merkel's visit to beijing but can such efforts really hope the tide of

one that says you know it takes a lot to not only apologize to the fans after last night but also rifle. take on all responsibility for the loss if you're sending death threats to paris and don't call yourself a liverpool fan secondly i hope he gets the help he needs to bounce back so a lot of people having his back there and i think that's true you know you can't call yourself a real fan if you're sending one of your players a death threat absolutely absolutely so it's wonderful to hear that's a whole lot of support for him now and turning to you chris what do you make do you think he can kind of despite the support recover from the kind of head is that he's made getting mentally regroup to such a public display off his edges yes i think he can but not in a liverpool jersey unfortunately you know the fans are calling for his immediate exit you know there are rumors even that you're going close to scouting opposing goalkeepers as we speak so i faked for him to do that he was secretly kind of cost liverpool their leicester city type of season fuelled by most sallah you know so all of this combined with the fan and then the death threats you know add fuel to

the fires you know so i think he should come on hope i think you should come back to germany regroup for a team you know with a lot smaller act you know i guess goals in terms of playing on bigger stages you know there are some teams mid tears but as the good teams i think would be a good fit for him clearly he's going to have to do that or maybe even elsewhere in a different league i think he needs about a three year hiatus to regroup possibly even hire a sports psychologist because you know i think this will haunt him he is quite young this will be definitely a test of his mental fortitude you know but as a former athlete as we heard from many tweets from other athletes i'm pulling for the young man and in all honesty i think he has time ahead of him to reach recover and change the perception associated with his name right now to make a fresh start completely and then start again chris had him stand from a sports desk and on the phone from a social media does thank you both gentlemen they must fail toll it's. not going to stay with football in germany face under twenty five today as they continue

preparations for the one cup at their. paining base in northern italy all eyes will be on the performance of goalkeeper neuer who's been out since september with a broken foot midfielder jack slow will also be hoping to impress coach you walk him live with a starting berth invention next month looking on certain. views a sports car as well and jonathan harding joins me now from the world champions training camp joe let's stop and we have jacks left what is the about not starting in the world cup given that he's been a big split in the season with bad essentially. not that so he was at the press conference today and he said quite categorically that he expects to be involved in the final twenty three in russia this summer he was also vocal about how he feels he's a better player than four years ago in the senate no denying that when you look at his confederations cup performance last year he's

a comfort zone man he certainly looked it today at the press conference and with the left wing position probably one of only two that's up for grabs there are some others no reason why didn't just doesn't think or can't think that he's the man for the job what money annoy it is immense pressure on him in this training game against the under twenty's what are his chances do you think. well you're one of the since we've been in the training camp that he expects i'm annoyed to be the number one if he fit and by all accounts that seems to be the direction that the selection is heading towards someone who is making excellent progress with his recovery and so far there's no reason to doubt him not being number one the chance to play again and the twenty and i will give him some match fitness which is what he's been missing during his recovery so far but the expectation is that he will play today he will play in the under twenty friendly that is later on in the training camp he will play in both friendly games austria and saudi arabia and that means he will be germany's captain and number one goalkeeper this summer in russia

. and financials and go shocking will have to whittle down just twenty seven man squad to twenty three in exactly a week from now how difficult is just this is going to be. hard to process this us a long time ago when you're homeless probably already has a good idea about which size you want to take and which he wants to leave but this week is decision which more tactical work will be done the team's fitness level has already been drawn up to an equal standard so this week will be pretty decisive for players that want to go i want to stay when tony cross joins the team on saturday after his champions league success this week real madrid in germany will be completed by the end of the week will know exactly which twenty three men he will take to russia in the hope of defending his world cup title johnson having a german training camp in athens thank you very much for that.

for turkish the five years since the guese pop protests have been mocked by a government crackdown on the feed him off expression and speech the government of president john has imprisoned thousands of journalists and many to have fled the country joining me now to talk about the turkish culture of before and off to guese is to add it to scott ross the welcome scott now let me get some context for us what was life into the like before the guese protests you know it's it's hard to remember now but the first ten years of add on's rule up to the gave the protest a lot there are a lot of critics of his government unclear critics of israel but one thing that was undeniable is that he really create an economic boom in turkey stabilize the economy and created a really cannot boom which really grew the middle class in turkey and along with that maybe despite his policies or as conservative as more islamic leaning policies

other movements grew the feminist movement grew very strong in turkey the environmentalist movement grew very strong the gay movement grew very strong and so these groups were in some ways behind these these these protests maybe because they got a taste of a bit of liberalization a bit of economic growth and they wanted the government to move faster and be become more open of course what happened was the the opposite the protest sparked a incredible backlash by the government that led to what we've we've seen the last few years the sort of extreme authoritarianism that airlines government is has has come to represent but that shift is sort of what's had a huge impact on turkish artists and we five years on from the anniversary of the gaze of protests we spoke to a few artists in turkey and also ones who now on in exile here in berlin to talk about how they are trying to keep the the spirit of alive what we call. that anyone who was there will never forget it. down and it will never be forgotten

and on the other. i can still feel it i can see a little if you still feel the force. the feel of it feel the union field a light in people's eyes. taxon squarely gazey park with the uprising took place five years ago is now mostly concreted over protests and no longer permitted. artists like hideout was a have transformed the events from back then into a giant mural a memorial to resistance and a memorial to the victims of police violence he's not selling his pitches he's determined to remain independent. for some artist out of the government's cars and the fears are increasing that more and more artists will engage in self-censorship. jenna is

the spirit of. even if these images and they are part of the past the flicker of hope for many artists both in turkey and abroad. so five years on scott jackie again seems to be at a turning point a new wave of protests we have been seen against and do on starting the beginning of this month we saw people starting again probably the largest mass protests we've seen since. most is happening online and it was sparked by a speech that on gave to parliament in turkey where he said if the people say enough then we'll we'll step down we'll we'll end our political movement and so then almost instantly social media exploded and the hashtag turkish for nothing started trending a went viral when it was trending topic worldwide and

a lot of people are drawing links between the mom protests which are happening and the park protests five years ago and in fact a lot now are calling for everyone to resign which goes even further with these protests at the time this week here it makes a direct connection say photo from the games the park protests the police crackdown on them with the headline we have not forgotten this part tune as well shows the reaction after the is part protest saying that everyone essentially has turned the journalists of his country into criminals by locking them up of course thousands of journalists were locked up in the crackdown that followed this week was even further calling the president himself a terrorist parroting the language that everyone has used to describe protesters going to very powerful stuff then looking back now five years on what was the impact of the game after tests well obviously the immediate impact was was negative i mean eleven people were killed in the in the crackdown right immediately

afterwards and thousands and thousands more sense as we've heard there's been an incredible crackdown on freedom of speech and expression of many artists of left the country but what i think is interesting is that maybe similar to what's happened in the you us that the protests have become. the galvanizing point that now turkish artists used it to almost invigorating to become a sort of to inspire their there are i compared a bit to what's happened post donald trump in the us where the artist community has gathered around this this point of protest. but we'll have to see really i mean there's elections next month in turkey and we have to see what the real impact of easy has been if at all on wins and at the moment he looks like he will secure another term he could even solidify his power and the sort of spirit of hope and resistance that came out of the gates the park might seem to move even further away right scott trucks there from uk not to dislike you very much for that. you're
