have a hard time to come to grips with the challenges that the italian finance ministry bring so it will not be an easy beginning after the festive part is over when prime minister commentary nominated. as finance minister italy's president said no because he was too euro skeptic now he's to be the e.u. minister should be you be worried. not about that at least phil because this is nothing but a indecent hand gesture of mild to. the boss of the league part of this coalition here who he had wanted and when he couldn't get to him now he shows president musharraf other ok i couldn't have him as finance minister about i still will have an in my cabinet but it's not a post that brings a lot of power so this is a minor issue now it's really of course is one of europe's biggest debt but the italian economy is the euro's third largest so now the view of the country is being

run by euro skeptics in italy chooses to challenge the e.u. had on would be you have to treat it differently than it did with a smaller country like greece. things are even worse than the situation with greece of course because it's in the economically is ten times as big so the european union will somehow first of course try to have to talk to them. try to figure out a way out of the conundrum because what this new government here wants to do is to spend huge amounts of money and that is not really possible because financial markets will lose face in italian bonds quickly the banks are still fragile the whole thing can go all downhill really quickly if that can be done if negotiates. to behead then of course there will be an all out fight and the european union will have to dig in its heels and nobody is really looking forward to that situation which may be just a few months down the road actually. in rome thank you. they

double news life from berlin still to come tackling the gender imbalance in the world of football stickers of how the story last spanish mother who made a special stick album for her daughter's. meanwhile the european union has hit back at new u.s. trade tariffs alpha's can tell us more about film after tariffs on steel and many were slapped on imports from the u.s. canada and mexico last night and the e.u. of course the bloc said it will challenge the move of the world trade organization french president obama on the cause calling the u.s. decision to live in tariffs on the european union illegal e.u. trade commissioner to syria mansour also accused the us of protectionism we'll hear more from her in a moment but first a look at what many fear is the start of a global trade war. they began this morning at six am central european time twenty five percent import tariffs on steel ten percent on aluminum the european reaction
6:06 pm
is clear. it is unfortunate because this is further weakening the transatlantic relations and it also increases the risk of severe turbulence is in the markets globally protectionism can never be a solution and this will hurt jobs here in the european union but also in the u.s. the e.u. has launched an official complaint at the world trade organization. they want to introduce countermeasures like tariffs on u.s. products for example bourbon whiskey motorcycles and jeans were some two point eight billion euros e.u. member states are meeting next week to decide on the exact list many economists agree with the measure europe as a very big economy and a very important market for u.s. products has a lot of influence that's why it's right to show the u.s. that they can't just do whatever they want the e.u. must use countermeasures to steer the process in the right direction. but
6:07 pm
it's those who are affected most who are speaking out against new e.u. tariffs on u.s. products or taking other measures the german steel association fears that it could lead to even more trade barriers and further economic damage. while the use trade commission says he has also been outlining the blocks response is some more of what he said. so here we are we have tariffs they were also in post this morning on canada and on mexico we have been very clear about the consequences of doing this the european union will today sent. a request for consultations and later pandev to the w two other countries will as well maybe not today but in the coming days we have started the preparation for the so-called rebalancing measures and we will do that on
6:08 pm
a proportionate and measured way. let's bring in our financial correspondent corner a boost from the frankfurt stock exchange commerce one of the markets play this so cool so far. you know how many people on the markets are quite hopeful that eventually some solution will be found that the rhetoric here in on both sides of the atlantic is louder and more aggressive than the solutions that will eventually be found and also i have to say in terms of the steel makers their earnings are not yet in jeopardy. because the anticipation of the import tariffs in the united states has driven prices up significantly in recent months american steel prices have risen by round about forty percent in the last couple of months and as surprising as this might seem also here in europe prices have risen significantly which means the prices have not anticipated any oversupply.
6:09 pm
world prices being what they are right now but many fear there will now be a good lots of steel that the stuff that the chinese and canadians can and so in the us anymore well that still bubble burst and both spoil that market. that's exactly what the big groups of the steel makers here in europe are wanting all of that they want that's what they are afraid of but that's why they demand that those balancing safeguard measures that the e.u. commissioner talked about a couple of seconds ago that those safeguards will be implemented the world trade organization allows. quote us on imports and even import tariffs in case a sector is threatened and is you know in danger to be seriously damaged this is this would not be protectionism but this would be allowed within the framework
6:10 pm
of the w t o and the steel makers here on the european continent hoping that some of this will be put into place and that this will protect them from this expected blot coming from all those countries that will not be able to sell their steel production in the united states anymore because of the american import tariffs. it's friday the week for us it ended on a rather positive note here in europe at least. it ended on a positive note would had which had to do with american economic data more jobs in the united states were created in the month of may than what the markets had anticipated and most market people wellcome that we have now a new government in rome even though of course not many people here like the populist economists say that if we with new elections we would
6:11 pm
have probably more influence of the legal party which is considered to be the more extremist of the two parties and so you know people here see the glass rather half full at the moment than half a ton of boos from the frankford thank you very much. and that's all your business have a full edition of the business for you in an hour but now it's back to so again thank you so much we go to spain next where the prime minister mariano rajoy has been removed after losing a no confidence vote in parliament admitting defeat just ahead of the votes he said it had been in order to lead his country will be replaced by socialist leader petro sanchez which party called the vote after members of roy's center right party were linked to a corruption scandal. he is the man of the hour pedro sanchez has achieved his goal of ousting his old foe mariano. the socialist opposition leader was the driving
6:12 pm
full was in the campaign to oust him. so he switched anything are you ready to resign here today he resigned today and leave by your own will and it will all end here if. it finally came to an end for a boy and now sanchez said to become spain's new prime minister from economics professor to governing the country sanchez journey to the top has been extraordinary twice he suffered humbling defeats in national elections while opposition leader in two thousand and fifteen and sixteen he was forced to resign after a bitter standoff with tough choice people's party sanchez made a comeback in two thousand and seventeen determined to turn into a high over the major corruption scandal within his conservative party his time in office is likely to be turbulent as he works through a new political landscape in spain. you do not as well tell you i am aware of the responsibility that i'm taking on during such a complex moment in the politics of our country that is what i can say is that
6:13 pm
besides being aware that i'm going to tackle all the challenges that our country faces with humility and give it my all to modernize our country. but. now he says he'll lead differently with a socialist egalitarianism europe government all policies his supporters are looking forward to. i'm so happy. because we've thrown the mafia out of government. they have stolen it from the spanish people for thirty yeah. ok so i hope the new government progresses i'm from podium and i'm so glad so you for forty. we had to do something we couldn't continue like this. changes may come very soon sanchez could be sworn in by spain's king felipe in the sixth as early as saturday and will appoint his cabinet over the coming days. now let's take
6:14 pm
a look at some of the other stories making news around the world german prosecutors have applied to keep former cattle on president carter's putumayo in custody spacex to extradite him to face charges of corruption and rebellion was detained in germany on a european arrest warrant for his role in catalonia independence paid last october that extradition must be approved by a german court before it can be carried out. activists from the from the ib environmental group greenpeace of storm the annual general meeting of the total company protesters descended by rote from the c. one a dozen or so others banged drums and sang songs protesting against a tells exploration of the amazon basin in search of new oil reserves. north and south korea have as you tired of the peace talks this as the united states tries to persuade the north to shut down its controversial nuclear program so says reconciliation between the two koreas will be a key part of efforts to resolve the nuclear standoff with pyongyang.

of big cats in a western german town is over or thought is of tracked down the five wild practices that were believed to escaped from a zoo a drone spotted the two ryans two tigers and jug you are still on the premises of the eiffel's or near the town of mood about several enclosures have been damaged by overnight storms and the audibles have disappeared from view police hunt through the flooded town followed putting nearby residential areas on lockdown the fugitive gravatt didn't stray was shot and killed. reporter david martin is that welcome david this appears to have ended happily for everyone except the bear . indeed except that their debris flowing through the river this morning caused the fencing of the base cage to completely collapse
6:16 pm
leading the bear to sort of stroll out of his cage and onto the onto the public pavement and that's where authorities spotted him this morning the reason they had to shoot and kill him rather than tranquilize is because there was supposedly causing a severe threat to the public so authorities had to act quickly and unfortunately they had to kill him but good news for everyone else especially for the people here they get to sleep easy tonight knowing that there isn't a. to see that there aren't wild cats roaming free their town aware of the wild cats now. they are back at the zoo they're back in their cages it's not quite sure what's going to happen to them if the zoo owners are looking at sort of the situation in this view and they might have to relocate a number of the animals this evening they're thinking they'll probably reach into the closest to which is the one in cologne but for now they're back in their cages
6:17 pm
they're back at the zoo ok so we look behind here we see what looks like a river flowing river without flood water tell us how these storms have affected the area. it is a river but the river is in is seriously overflowing so i'm standing just in front of the river purim so there were absolutely devastating downpours last night throughout north friend pilots in it their state where i'm in and where they do it's located several roads closed several houses really suffering severe flooding as you can see just like the house behind me so the situation is calming the weather is getting better but they're still reckoning with you know heavy watches heavy flows of overflowing rivers and you know people will have to adjust again you know clear out their clear out their basements clear at their cellars there's still a lot of work to be done. here.

that run the fastest different time in nearly a decade setting a diamond league record. jewish youth sports tournament is taking place in munich this week with integration a big theme discrimination remains a problem for some young jewish athletes in germany so organizers are making a statement by inviting participants from all cultures. footballers of germany's mccarthy junior games have often had to deal with anti semitic hostility on the pitch verbal abuse and even physical violence are everyday occurrences in youth leagues. they call those jewish pigs and recently i heard someone had said it will turn you into ashes like back then something like that it's sometimes tough so much miles. the best way to deal with such abuse is to ignore it the athletes say. if you're angry and you retaliate that doesn't help the best thing to do is to

explain that it's not a bad thing to play here another only that it's a normal thing because my coffee is a club like every of. the concept is integration the jewish organization accepts athletes from all religious and non-religious backgrounds and for. the simple fact is that my carvey is so open and does a lot for integration. and that is what makes me special as i like to say i'm a german with a migrant background and i train kids in a jewish team in connecticut and yet. this is germany's first because between your games and around three hundred fifty athletes are taking part showing that sport can bring people together. just a couple of weeks before the start of the football world cup in russia another world cup has already begun london drawing fans not by the millions but by the

hundreds it's a tournament for countries not officially recognized as well as teams representing disputed regions. their fans sing songs and wave flags that are banned in tibet by the ruling government china but that doesn't stop these red plaid tibetan players in exile playing in a world cup of like teams that are not recognized by fifo football's governing body . on the opening day of this world cup that caused a disputed region of georgia was tibet's opponent on the pitch i meant to bat and my mighty mighty moment that's why this is the first told them that this should get it is a big one for us this is normally people don't consider to be this country a lot of. the tibetan team may have been blessed by the exiled dalai lama before
6:22 pm
they left for the tournament but the going was tough against the cousins. not that the outcome of each match is in fact the most important thing not a football song. i mean i've hardly ever been so much in my entire life but this is something different this is something nice. that shows us in the positive like showing many of the regions represented here in any life is a step up so even though the confederation of independent football associations is a blip on the radar to the future world cup no matter. if it covers a vast amount of the world there are people slipping through the cracks and i think there will always be a need for another ball to a more flexible model of identity that lies people see play fight and seized on perhaps in the mainstream is going to get you know it's grown giving them over
6:23 pm
tibet was overpowered by a greater force in this their opening group stage match but a house is a tournament favorite and the tibetans are happy. simply to have made this world cup. so even though the official woke up wasn't started yet found that young and old are already busy collecting stickers of the heroes apparently the world is in frenzy and it has nothing to do with brad it's much more important the stick albums have been popular for decades but a few months ago a spanish mother decided they were missing something called nothing from d.w. social media is here to tell us we're welcome come home what was missing well is this is nothing to do with bread this is about women athletes you may not be familiar i guess them with the panini collectible stickers this is the book that you put these stickers and do they feature athletes all over the world sports fans football fans are obsessed with this stuff you can see some of the stickers kid behind us but you know there was kind of one problem here and that's because the
6:24 pm
majority of these stickers only feature male athletes and as you mentioned one person decided to take matters into her own hands we're talking about maria vasquez and she is a mother in spain and she been watching two of her daughters collect these panini stickers of male footballers she wanted them though to be able to do the same thing with their idols the players in spain's top women's league the league. so she took matters into her own hands she created her own panini style stickers she actually went ahead and contacted spain's women's clubs she asked them to send some photos of each player and she even posted her preliminary results here on twitter take a look at all those stickers that she made really cool and maria here writes i've done more than two hundred fifty stickers with the help of photos in the clubs a lot of effort and hours went into this to be able to give my daughters a sticker album with their idols in it that i've printed and laminated myself they love it they had benefit with it and i'm proud to be able to offer it to them
6:25 pm
problem was she was still missing dozens of players and she actually got a little bit of help from the league and after eight months of work here is the final. told she made this custom designed here's actually the league reached out and said hey we love your collection we can't leave it like this you have to complete it and we're going to help you make that possible so from two hundred fifty to more than three hundred fifty stickers here's the final result you can see she made a custom album for this album cover for these stickers and really cool stuff her daughters love it ok what was a broader reaction well not just the daughters of course i mean we're seeing people all over the place reacting to this they think it's a great idea including some of the women athletes in that spanish league and they saw their stickers and take a look how they reacted on twitter as well you don't have to understand spanish to see how excited they were to see their own faces on some of these stickers even the spanish men's league league this is a big time global league with lots of fans they reached out on twitter as well they
6:26 pm
said thank you for making the dream of so many girls come true ok in the company is this panini how they responded so this is panini is an old italian company they've been doing this for decades we reached out to them to see if they had a reaction here's what they told us and they pointed out that there are some women athletes feature they said in twenty fifteen there was an officially licensed album for the women's world cup in canada last year we also released the official sticker album for the women's football european championship both albums were very successful they say now they told us we'll be putting out another one of course for the women's world cup in twenty nineteen so everybody's happy we all like a reason those stories run up so much. top stories at this hour then three months after elections house a new government prime minister something called take i'm just common it's not been sworn in i present to myself as well and set up in
