this is the news live from the ladies not for tonic german chancellor angela merkel refusing to back down in the face of a public challenge from her interior minister is a migration policy the sound of his threatening to bring down germany's coalition government just three months off to each he calls this also coming up. plus lives around the world's markets which are the holiday of unity generosity and sweet oh sure you got you how believers asana bracing. and the world cup they make gold

from porn poem box a cure is a unexpectedly narrow wins the favorites from against unfortunate all straight you will get more on that from. the law. i'm humphrey glad you could join me german charles and i'm going to starting today as a dispute over migration with one of her top ministers threatens to bring down her coalition government macko has reiterated her intention to seek a common european solution to illegal immigration as getting a stand off with her interior minister hussein who for now he wants germany to unilaterally toughen its cool to control its the german government could fall if no agreement is soured. well for more on this our chief political correspondent melinda crane joins me now in the studio melinda i have to ask you the big question
4:02 pm
straight off how big is the risk that the german government could fall there absolutely is a risk if they don't succeed in finding a compromise over the weekend they are apparently meeting to talk about possible compromises and we're told that the person brokering that is the former finance minister current head of parliament. who absolutely has a great deal of respect from both sides but the compromise definitely would have to be something that offers the bavarian conservatives an opportunities to save face while also buys time for the chancellor to look for a european solution so probably not easy to find if they don't find one by monday the interior minister has said he would go through with his plan to essentially reimpose border controls or to toughen border controls and to begin sending some migrants back to the first year of pm countries which they entered if he does that
4:03 pm
the chancellor basically would be in the position where she would have to dismiss him for insubordination that would then mean that he would take his party out of the governing coalition most likely and then the coalition would no longer have a majority of the seats in parliament they might try to govern as a minority government that would be a little bit difficult so essentially we would be on the path to new elections and possibly see machall step down because she has said this would be her last term as chancellor so the stakes are very high indeed absolutely from what you're telling me man and it is an awful lot riding on of these talks let's take a look now at exactly what is dividing america and the who for and what both sides want in this report now. the standoff pits chancellor merkel against her interior minister horst hoffa who is also a leading figure in the various conservative c.s.u. party zero five and his party are challenging even though they are part of the national governing coalition in berlin as a whole for wants germany to turn away refugees at the border if they have already
4:04 pm
applied for asylum in another european country but merkel does not want germany to go it alone and is pushing instead for a european solution to the crisis. z. hall for however says he has lost faith in the e.u.'s ability to act and is threatening to move unilaterally if merkel and c. hoffa fail to resolve their differences the alliance between the two parties could on ravel and lead to the collapse of the government. when as you said melinda we do believe that there is a search for a compromise under way this weekend that said it didn't stop maskell from making her position clear did it tell us more well yes in a matter of speaking but she didn't simply go on t.v. and said hey i'm not standing down what she did is she very subtly wove the topic into her weekly podcast in a discussion where she was actually talking about her upcoming meeting with french president emmanuel mccaw this is the first time since the new government was
4:05 pm
created that german ministers will be meeting with their french ministerial counterparts so that is quite a major event and basically she was talking about the main topics they are going to be discussing and she mentioned migration as the second topic on the list saying this is a european challenge and we require a european solution and it's essential to european solidarity and just in a nutshell the reason for that is that if the interior minister were to follow through with his unilateral plan to send refugees back to the first countries they enter essential it all the burden is once again put on those countries those are the countries on the x. sternal board. order of the e.u. greece italy they have borne the brunt of this influx of refugees from the beginning and that obviously is not solidarity when when europe's richest country says hey they're your problem and why is this dispute breaking out now as i mentioned the government has or has really only up and up and running for
4:06 pm
a couple of months so why now is a great question and the reason is local elections in bavaria in october that is the heartland of the comeback very in conservatives the interior minister's party they are eager to look tough on migration because they are very worried about potential gains by the anti immigration far right f a s d they want to ward off those gays and that's why essentially they have pushed this simmering conflict to an absolute game of chicken and who's going to blink first we don't know yet absolutely you always have to look for the motivation thank you very much chief political correspondent melinda crane. and now this take a look at some of the other stories making news around the world. nicaragua's bishops say they have brokered a truce between the government and civil society groups ending two months of deadly politico on readings on to the deal the government has agreed to an international inquiry into the violence so one hundred seventy people have been killed since protests began in april. a major fire has torn through the can also go to

teams like australia who are not known for their possession and so they actually had a quite difficult time creating chances from open play and we also saw the premiere of the video referee tell us more about that how that went down at the very first time it was used was in portugal and spain on friday night and on saturday it was used between france and australia and i have to say between france and australia actually just there was a lot of criticism beforehand about. warring sides he thought but without the new system technology and without goal line technology science would have lost this game one zero so actually it was a fantastic opportunity to show how great technology and football can be absolutely you mention last night's action let's take a look at some of that including the first heavyweight clash in the tournament so far we had two european giants facing each other portugal against spain football fans were hoping for a fantastic match and let's be honest that's exactly what they got. just ten

i am ready as i'll show us what again and made you think it was a fair result fair in terms of the better team winning i'm not so sure you know spend dominated the game they had much more attempts on goal you know they had more passes with better accuracy but portugal played a good game and if you're spain just can't give away penalties like that and dangerous free kicks to play like christiana ronaldo absolutely and actually chris you never know there's never actually performs out strongly and while cup some people might be so. surprised but until now would you say that surprise on difficult situations he loves being criticized i think because it just pushes him to go that extra mile to go further to look at this season he actually didn't have a great season with real madrid in the first half and then he came in had a fantastic second half broke records again and now this might be his last chance at a world cup so he'll probably want to prove everyone that he can perform even on this huge stage yeah he's definite going to be going for it with that in mind and he makes the early running in your opinion how many at this point in terms of
