at the soccer world cup but they were almost all for england the three lions thrash can amount to both their ticket to the knockout stage and we'll talk about it and look back at germany's dramatic last minute when on saturday night. thanks for joining us i'm marrying evans dean the ballots are being counted in turkey's presidential and parliamentary elections president wretch of time has a cave party are facing a tight race or to one cast his ballot earlier today he needs to garner more than fifty percent of the vote to avoid a runoff his main competition comes from the heart i am injury of the secular republican people's party he's galvanized the opposition with huge campaign rallies around the. entry in recent weeks. we have team coverage of the elections in
5:02 pm
turkey with a correspondent in the capital ankara and dorian jones for us in istanbul so junia you are standing at the supreme electoral council turkey's electoral commission when can we expect the first results to be announced. well yes the building you can see behind me is the all sorts he that will publish release official results later in the day in about three hours we hope we'll get some reliable figures that's when the reporting ban will hopefully be lifted so we will know a little more if this is a race that's been decided in favor of mr advani if he will be reelected or indeed if it will be a much more tight race and if he might be forced into a second round into a runoff in two weeks so there's
5:03 pm
a lot of tension i would say here there's a lot of excitement the area has been guarded all by police so citizens people can't really come here so i'm here right now with fellow turkish journalists were of course watching very closely what's going on the whole day here in ankara was rather calm the polling the voting took place amid high security more than fifteen thousand police officers have been deployed here we saw them all around town we saw them at the polling stations they told us that's just the usual procedure for them and we talked to some voters of course and one many say they have a huge desire for change and they really believe change is possible and they will wake up in a different turkey to morrow others were rather saying that they're not that hopeful that they don't really believe that mr allen would allow himself to lose this election all right now dorian as you mentioned there's a lot of stake in these elections just how tense were people at the polling
5:04 pm
stations in istanbul today. where i am is one of the opposition. people being streaming into the voting station all day turnout here is around eighty five percent testament to how strong feelings are here very determined to cost votes against. president they really believe that the very future of democracy is at stake speaking to people all along that the prospects of the new president will have sweeping powers the challenges. of saying the intellect to dictatorship would occur under his rule if one was to prevail but speaking to people also there is a sense of some confidence they are very optimistic in that they believe the opposition has mounted a very effective campaign and they believe there is a chance to challenge the old one and force them into a second round but the key thing that everyone i spoke to is it's a concern is will the vote be fair that's what everyone is worried about everyone
5:05 pm
is very nervous there is a growing sense of nervousness that what the next few hours will hold for the whole of the country do you see a dorian mentioned this just now there are some reports of irregularities so what's your assessment of how fair this vote is shaping up to be. well there not just some reports there are many reports especially emerging on social media of you've seen videos there are allegations that election observers were either not allowed to enter polling stations others at the polling stations were threatened and we even saw videos where people stand to ballot papers in favor of missed out on of course we can't independently verify this information and these videos but that of cause contributes to the nervousness the durian spoke about and i'm what i'm injured the opposition candidate presidential candidate of the largest opposition party at the c.h.p. just showed up here behind me at the high electoral commission and he pledged he
5:06 pm
promised voters that he will be here to protect their votes and he explicitly told them please cast your vote and then stay for a little longer and closely watch what's going to happen to your wotan please wait until you have a list that is officially signed and then protest and being sent. to the next level so that's his he this is what he is asking of voters so that's how you can see how important this topic is. reporting for us from ankara and dorian jones reporting from istanbul many thanks to you both. now a group of sixteen e.u. leaders are holding an emergency migration meeting in brussels divisions within the bloc are widening over how to manage the influx of asylum seekers and refugees german chancellor angela merkel and other leaders described sunday as many some
5:07 pm
meant as a working meeting ahead of european council talks due next week merkel says she does not expect a total solution to the problem but will instead push for bilateral or trilateral deals to cope with immediate emergencies or central european states taking an especially hard line on migration are snubbing today's talks. all right that was the german chancellor angela merkel speaking a short time ago at that meeting on migration in brussels and for more on that we're joined now by correspondent brussels barber of a zone so margaret give us a sense of what's at stake at today's summit. this is a really frothed meeting because what we see here are going to merkel just said it is she when she mentioned we need to find out what's important to whom and that is quite clear nobody wants to take in more migrants many countries want to get rid of some of those they have and the question is will europe turn into the fortress
5:08 pm
europe really close its borders too tightly that people can come in anymore. the agenda of european politics being increasingly be dictated by populace like sebastian of course from viktor orban in hungary and then of course the new italian interior minister much too so vini these people the ones who are sort of driving the e.u. into a certain direction that is quite distinct from what it did in the part so in the past so this is really a tremendously important and at the same time difficult and fraught summit meeting where interests are clashing all right so along with possibly punishing them states who are not pulling their weight in helping to take on the migrants what are some other concrete changes to the use asylum system that are even on the table.
5:09 pm
concrete changes are and i think that's a point that most countries agree on is to close the borders better that means more ships in the mediterranean that means up to ten thousand for the border border guards that means a lot of money to secure the borders that will mean fences and everything that goes with it that it's one point that many countries agree and say we need this and. spoke of the fear for the cohesion. of the countries in within the e.u. so they are going to sort of going in that direction that's one and the other is that many countries won some sort of camp somehow some say like micron with in the e.u. some say outside of fit in on the external fringes of europe where. who are you could go to and who have no chance for asylum could somehow be kept and then by
5:10 pm
some by some means that we don't really have yet brought back to their to their home countries so those are the two big things that on the table those are not really contentious but what is really contentious is the role that italy is going to play in the future because they simply they have closed their hearts and they said we are fed up we are just not going to play the country of reception anymore and that is going to create the most problems all right barbara faisal reporting for us from brussels many thanks indeed. all right ahead soccer world cup news now and pablo fully a leader is here in the future with me to guide us through it good to see here so i do want to talk about last night's amazing germany match but there is already a match today that's on the books tell us about that one from the right everyone to read your mind we're going to start there was no shortage of drama and goals it was full of excitement it finished six one and what a cracker it was it started off with
5:11 pm
a stone. header. no defending whatsoever from panama absolutely desperate from them and there was another goal from kane that was a penalty and three nil was jesse lynn garvey of course plays for man united with an absolutely cracking go and that's another goal from johnstone's then another goal from harry cain at half time and then this six goal came from harry came he completed his hat trick with what could only be described as an inadvertent goal five goals in the tournament and he is now the tournament top goal scorer and let's not forget there was a little consolation goal for panama which in fact is their first goal ever at the world cup well and that's because celebrate that with them a little bit exactly so tell us who else is playing well there's another there's another few games taking place today japan are taking on senegal now they've both won their opening game so it's going to be a bit of a tight affair there and then poland and colombia are also going to be playing they both lost their opening game so they're really desperate to pick up
5:12 pm
a win at the tournament all right now can we talk about last night germany game everybody here in the office was so excited about it take us through what happened you're absolutely right no it wasn't just that everybody here was excited i think everybody in germany was excited about this game it was one of those games of people will be talking about for a while because of old and drama and we really have to wait practically till the end of the game to actually see you know what we need to do you need to look at the highlights. germany started furiously pinning sweden back right from the start but lacked procedure in front of goal. and they lacked perception in their passing to tony close as misplaced bull gave sweden an opportunity to supply striker all a toivonen who made no mistake sweden the head against the run of play and germany into trouble and what a second half they played three minutes in and marco royce netted the equal iser germany up there tempo and created chance after chance but failed to capitalize but
5:13 pm
then and next set back strong boateng was sent off after his second yellow card run we were a man down for the last ten fifteen minutes but even then we did not stop playing football we switched a couple of positions and then tony strike on this what can you say honest. tony cross free kick in the ninety fifth minute saved both the day and the world cup for germany brilliant dream team teed up by marco royce turns tony cross from zero to hero. of the of a but i have published so does this mean germany are all but assured of advancing well it's not assured you have to give me a little bit more drama now during the week but they really need to win their next game and that's against south korea and it's also depends as well on how mexico and sweden get on but i think what we really need to do is see what we can expect from their next clash of course against south korea. i mission accomplished in sochi tony crosses ninety fifth minutes when it kept germany's title defense
5:14 pm
alive but the match winning knows that the next judgement day is already around the corner it was once only at the minute we need to recover now we don't have much time till the next game then we'll have to beat south korea beat them and phatak lee has there are scenarios where a simple win isn't enough to qualify so we'll have to give everything from the start and make better use of our chances. like the sharks visit us on the. outside the stadium fans will also already looking ahead to wednesday's matches. the man shot the team just great and i'm convinced both sweden and germany will progress both of us. i hate that that has got to feel right now but we will and i got thank god i crossed germany scenes of joy accompanied the last gasp win but they'll have to be back on
5:15 pm
wednesday for the next nail biter. all right pavel what's your feeling area didn't have to be germany i don't think so i think germany are going to advance this win has given them a huge boost of confidence and i think they're going to go very far in this tournament we'll have to wait and see as always if you have a fully alias from the deadliest fourth test thank you so much as always thanks ira thanks for watching. make your smile. smarter with a smile. watching what you want to. up to date. extraordinary. decide what's. behind that double.
