for. my family moved to the u.s. when i was a child we immigrated from poland and when i came here i wasn't put in a cage i think it's important to my duty now to be here to make sure the kids that come into this country america i'm an american citizen now aren't putting kids either so that's why i'm here today sure immigration is a huge issue for any country but to be there to be. really there she teach that these people the decency of these are. i feel really passionate about this i think that separating families has been american history and i'd like to see some civility. i came out today because i know from my studies in psychology that it is traumatic for both the child and their parents to be separated i will have long term impact on children's developments and i think that's not ok one sheet i think i shouldn't have to say that the three i know i do and our country is really headed to a terrible place right now where people are not thinking of other people as human beings

mexico is gearing up for presidential and parliamentary elections on sunday following a campaign that's been marred by violence dozens of candidates running for office have been killed by the country's powerful drug cartels polls show a more than twenty percent lead for leftist candidate on british manuel lopez obrador the former mayor of mexico city has vowed to end the violence and tackle and democrat sion is rival is this man ricardo in iowa who leads a left right coalition party. correspondent ophelia harms our rooty is in mexico city and she joins us now for the latest so ophelia there have been these reports of some people being too scared to go out and vote because of all the violence just what sort of turnout is expected.
2:08 am
well yes there is fear in some states that are very. filled with criminals which is colima get out on behind where people think that maybe criminal organizations might be disrupting the electoral process but this is actually expected to be a historic turnout with about sixty five percent of the electorate going to the polls on sunday and it will be historic because mexicans are fed up with the corruption and violence in this country and because of that their traditional party that has ruled mexico so far have not been able to fight this problem and that is why we might be seeing a leftist candidate becoming mexico's next president for the first time but is also going to be historic but because it is going to be the first time mexicans vote for so many political position it's not only president but they are renewing their congress and many other local offices all right so voters not to turned by violence but what about violence against the candidates themselves apparently dozens have been killed in the run up to the poll was behind that violence well
2:09 am
behind that violence are brutal drug cartels and other criminal organizations all over the country which i have killed one hundred thirty one politicians since the campaign started in september and this has worsened we have seen this before but it has never been so transversal with all political parties and that is because drug cartels and organizations have taken over and want to gain more political influence in regions where they have such heated businesses and some of these candidates might not have stuck to what those organizations are interested in those specific regions where the candidate to for victory on the dish manuel lopez obrador has promised to tackle crime just how does he intend to do it briefly if you could. well just like all the other he has promised to fight corruption and and impunity
2:10 am
will try the main reasons for this violence but he has no specific line or strategy in his program that we can see but one very controversial proposal from and doesn't let up at all rather it is to grant amnesty to some criminals in order to end this violence which something might actually worsen it in the end all right correspondent ofeibea harms reporting for us from mexico city many thanks indeed. the soccer world cup continues to bring lots of thrills and the first day of not have matches was no exception probably fully ilias from daily sports is here now to break it all down so pablo so many goals today so many goals let's start though with that match between argentina and france right and let's not forget there were seven gold so in this match that was just that one which is incredible i mean the thing was it was such an exciting much how all the elements all those all those
2:11 am
things you want to see the world cup match between two really exciting teams to watch i think the best thing to do though is take a look at this report. a blistering run from the phenomenal kilian back pay was too much for argentina to deal with. pay down and swell griezmann converted the resulting penalty. it was pays paris and demand to make angle di maria who equalized with this outstanding strike just before half time just after the break argentina went in front thanks to a clever little touch from gabrielle america just a little messy stuff. but the pendulum had another swing and. benjamin powered stroke a fine half ali all the way into the back of the net then the red let this map a schooled the game's fifth and immediately afterwards six three goals in just eleven minutes to turn the tie completely on its head substitute sergio aguero one

more home in extra time but it wasn't enough for an ambitious argentina side it's a disastrous early exit. so really just a blur of goals and a very impressive performance by france and france looked incredibly strong but it has to be said that in the first half they sort of they they scored a penalty and then they just sort of sat back and it wasn't really until they actually were losing the game to one that they sort of something clicked and they all came together and then we just saw them take charge and we saw the team for what they are which is a quite a a young team plenty of great players people like antoine griezmann of course and one player in particular but in particular and it's a guy we're going to be hearing a lot about from now forward i would say and that's a key. and he spoke after the game along with. quite briefly let's hear what he had to say. he got up close. and it would go i'm pleased i feel good people said that we hadn't done anything
2:13 am
good up till now but we had a complicated group and now it's the great team with great players we did well there's not much brooke. all right let's talk about the second match equally exciting i would say. beating portugal and sending the world's greatest soccer player home chris turner an all too well you also argue that of course he was one of the world's greatest i would say but definitely oh there of course and it was a real exciting much as well to watch you know how old i was adamant as well that we want to see if the world cup and if we just take a look here uruguay got off to a dream start as edison cavani another man who really impressed everybody he met a lot of scrolls in the seventh minute put the team ahead but then of course portugal full back down pepe handed the ball into the back of the net so was one all and once again it was edison. i didn't see any of course he was the hero of the hour scored an absolute cracker of a go there to send your white into the last eight but it was

a little bit bittersweet because he ended up limping off helped off by none other than christiane although as you mentioned they're from portugal so it will have to wait and see whether he'll be able to play in europe wise next match of course which will be against france well pablo having seen in action what's your take how do you think they're going to do against france i think it's going to be a really really tight affair but at the end of the day france looked incredibly strong they looked really good but i think what we need to do is hear from matt and uncertain himself because you know it was a pretty upsetting thing to be able to limp off a match after scoring such impressive goals. you know it's very moving. the words to describe all of this happy happy happy to be pretty pretty pretty happy everyone is imagine what it's like in your go right now you can keep dreaming . when i say in europe well it's there's a big fiesta taking place for the moment and i was he was very upset because you
2:15 am
know they're scoring two goals such a small country less than three and a half million people so we'll just have to wait and see whether he'll be able to take part in that match against france which is going to be a tight affair but i think france are going to do it all right we'll have to wait and see always we have to just wait and see but it is a very exciting world cup. fourth many thanks indeed for all of that i'm sorry. you're up to date on news thanks for watching. and i think one day this war will be considered cruel and unjust war going. on and certainly all citizens of ukraine every man woman and child the only friend their homeland is the enemy invades. no one wants russia here which is the.
