political team on their studio. in munich the party c.s.u. leadership meeting and these are his men the crane is in berlin the chancellor's party headquarters mikhail i'm going to start with you for us now horst say over hours apparently said he doesn't think that the e.u. deal is enough and is reportedly to make an unmanned announcement soon does that mean trouble for the coalition. it certainly means that this crisis is far from over it could potentially mean trouble for the german chancellor but the big question here is how much of this is regional bavarian politics and how much of this really will spill over into berlin we're hearing that hosty who in this closed door meeting said that the german chancellor brought home is simply not enough well in the past to see use you has always been known for closing ranks behind its leaders but you also heard some prominent voices coming into this use you headquarters here this afternoon amongst them mr v.
6:03 pm
by the leader of the european people's party the conservative bloc in the european parliament saying that he felt that chancellor merkel to come back with more than was anticipated so clearly there's a lot of internal debate going on for the whole for the rebellious interior minister this also seems to be about personal credibility and that certainly is fueling speculation here that he might ask for the german chancellor to relieve him from his duties as interior minister but that at this moment in time is pure speculation and that leaves open the question what the actual position of the c.e.o.'s you itself will be come the end of this meeting here in bavaria. so that's the point at the moment now linda from what you are hearing my party members where you are getting are they getting nervous about what's to come next.
6:04 pm
the party members walking into this building a bit earlier to attend a meeting of the c.d.u. party leadership were very very tight lipped indeed if they were nervous they certainly weren't showing it what we have heard from party leadership in the past two days following the european union summit is that they too believe as michelle it just described that if anything the chancellor actually accomplished more than would have been expected to both in terms of the overall summit agreement but also in her bilateral dealings with european human union member countries many of which are on the external boundaries of the european union and which she had essentially been requesting to declare their willingness to take back refugees who had already been registered in their countries that in essence has been the core of this conflict the interior minister horsy hofer saying that he will proceed unilaterally
6:05 pm
to send refugees back to those countries the first registry if if essentially the european union member states couldn't get some forward movement at this summit so basically c.d.u. leadership saying in the past days look we got that movement we have seen some real achievements here and certainly unilateral action is not the right path at the moment so at the moment there's a lot of sarod solidarity with the chancellor's position here in the building in back of me. ok and there are of course all their parts as well mckayla that could be taken if we assume for example let's say who for is going to step back what would that mean. well that would raise yet more questions of who will really be at the helm here in the very end to anglo-american partner within the c.s.u. would be in the future so a lot of question marks there but we can already say that first of all this politically doesn't really add up from the c.s.u.
6:06 pm
polish position it has really suffered in the polls over those past ten days it wasn't able to capsulize on taking this much tougher anti machall course line something it has done in the past particularly horsy so this is use damage itself and the german chancellor will definitely come out of this damage because she's seen her or thor she challenge from within her own political calm and she well if i was to ask to be allowed to resign she would be left with yet another unknown within her own coalition and this could also mean bad news for her government coalition so we're so far from really seeing what the outcome here will be tonight. melinda do you see any room for compromise between chancellor angela merkel and the various c.s.u. . absolutely i see that and certainly some members of the c.s.u. indicated in the past two days that they see it as well there were efforts by party
6:07 pm
leaders on both sides both the christian democrats the chancellors conservatives and the varian conservatives to say essentially the c.s.u. had put this debate in motion that the c.s.u. was partly responsible for the movement that did occur in brussels in other words an effort to really give the c.s.u. a face saving way to deescalate the whole conflict and i think there are members of the c.s.u. who have said all along we don't want to break with the chancers christian democrats we don't want to see this government fall apart certainly those voices will also have been heard today in the meetings in in munich and i think the people here in berlin at c.d.u. headquarters will very much be banking on that particular group within the c.s.u. holding sway this evening. that was in the crane in berlin. as well and you
