and i want. to tell you. this is the deadly news live from berlin alive after nine days underground to rescue teams in thailand dreams of twelve boys and the football coach drops in a side a flooded cave system officials say also tina showing signs of life will bring you the latest from bangkok also on the program fighting for political survival german chancellor angela merkel holds crisis while she's up a very conservative part as she tries to end the dispute over migration policy
7:01 pm
interior lives of will say hoffman has tried to preside potentially bringing down the government. i'm sorry but time of the world cup in russia brazil have reached the quarter finals thanks in part of the style not just for the first goal of the game just descriptive through against me. i'm phil gayle welcome to the program rescue workers in thailand to find the twelve boys and their football coach missing inside a floating cave system for nine days all thirty of the reports to say the rescue operation is not over the group went missing inside the cave complex in chiang rai province last saturday after heavy flooding left from trucks and navy divers have been trying to reach them ever since the efforts hampered by mud and rising seas.
7:02 pm
in the thai capital bangkok welcome flora so the boys have been located but they haven't been rescued yes. yes that is exactly what i'm hearing and it was it was news that basically all of thailand has been waiting for it has been nine days that everyone here not just the parents of those boys up in chiang rai but even people here in bangkok have been praying have been thinking about these boys and over the last one or two days hope was actually dwindling a little bit that they could actually be found alive because people thought that they it's little boys and even though a grown up can actually survive without food for a month that's what experts say but they said that for the voice we were actually reaching that critical mark here after nine days so they at least that's what everyone thinks they should have had enough water to drink in that hole in that
7:03 pm
cave there should have been enough oxygen so that was never a concern but the food was actually getting quite low and so everyone was really really excited and even enthusiastic when this news just spread about an hour ago that all the boys have been found alive and well. as you've been speaking with are looking at live pictures from outside the cave complex tell us how the rescue go about getting them out. i cannot tell you exactly what the plan is right now but i have just confirmed that they have actually been found by the rescue divers so basically there have been two different strategies in place for the last days so on the one hand we have the tiny navy seal divers aided by experts from britain who tried to actually get into the cave through the main. they had to die through water because the entrance was flooded
7:04 pm
and they slowly but steadily made their way into this ten kilometer wide or long cave so you have to imagine this is a massive cave so it's the fourth largest cave in thailand so it wasn't clear where those boys could have found shelter and could have found the driest spot a higher spot where they would be safe from the water so that is why had to take it has taken so long but at the same time we're actually. a few days ago with the help of the international experts they have pursued a second strategy they have been climbing on top of that cave and have started to find shafts that would lead into the cave or at least further down so that they could drill into the cave and so now we have to wait and see what kind of extraction method they want to use from what i'm hearing the water inside the cave
7:05 pm
is is still fairly high so i would imagine that it's difficult to get some you know teenage boys that have probably no experience with diving whatsoever through out through through water where they cannot prefer to breed for themselves so i would figure that the rescue helpers would actually try to drill a hole that's big enough to actually get the boys out through the basically through the through the mountain. and. germany's government is in crisis as the future of migration policy threatens i'm going to medicals ruling coalition the chance of a interior minister or say hoffa have been meeting with the presidents of the german parliament and the conservative leadership is expected to hold further talks later interior minister spoke the crisp bought the crisis by pushing for chancellor merkel to adopt a hard line on migration on sunday he repeated to quit of the chance was insistence

on an e.u. solution so hopeless resignation could lead to the break up of a decades long conservative alliance potentially costing the chancellor's government its parliamentary majority. angela merkel left alone. german interior minister and party leader of the c.s.u. the but very insisted party to merkel's c.d.u. was absent from the conservative parliamentary group meeting on monday germany's conservatives are falling apart at the seams but merkel's conservatives remain optimistic. i think whoever has good intentions will in the end find a compromise so i say is deputy party leader we also support our party to angela merkel because she has good arguments. which i will mention the dispute is about the details of germany's migration policy the bavarian c.s.u. party wants to turn away migrants who have already registered in another e.u.
7:07 pm
state or have already applied for asylum. the chancellor has always made it clear that this wouldn't be part of germany's migration policy something she reiterated once again to her own conservatives earlier today but the c.s.u. boss and german interior minister hostie hofer isn't about to back down quietly after a long meeting of his party delegates save over threatened in the early hours of monday to step down as interior minister as well the c.s.u. party leader. sort of said the both posts will be fake and that this will happen in the next three days and that we will now again take an intermediate step to reach an agreement with the c.d.u. . it's wonderful to be grim reaper to be with. both parties want to try again today to find a compromise to save the conservative parliamentary group the social democrats or s.p.d. the third party in germany's governing coalition has been watching in disbelief
7:08 pm
from the sidelines has been but right i'm ready to continue with this government but there must be some action from the c.d.u. and c.s.u. . my patience is wearing thin. rightness it sounds i'm doing. parties in the opposition equally stunned by the escalation to try frontiersmen i doubt that the government will be able to work normally again they might save themselves from the face seal for will probably resign i suspect he won't get away with this because of course coalition is ending after only one hundred days the c.s.u. has basically accused the chancellor of mistrust and perhaps a discussion between coalition leaders in berlin later today will finally cool the heated debate between the union parties. let's get the latest from the ws chief political correspondent bill in the crate who is outside the building headquarters of i'm going to see you welcome bill and chancellor under terry minister have been

meeting with the presidents of germany's parliament for some hours now at a news. indeed and those meetings are still going on now here at c.d.u. headquarters no news so far and we can be sure that they will be fighting hard to try to find some form of face saving compromise both parties were saying today it's absolutely crucial to them to maintain the bonds between their parties pons that have long been called a sisterhood but haven't been looking very sisterly of late certainly very very important for the c.s.u. to continue in this joint conservative bloc with the chancellor's christian democrats because otherwise essentially the varying conservatives have no influence on the national level but whether that compromise can be found is very very hard to say because in fact both sides indicated today that they were standing on principle

another two months to get dave the chance for a deadline which was sunday he said again with a deal but i want to the wise i would close one unilaterally yesterday he repeated his threat to resign but he's still there so what does he want. it seems that he considers himself indispensable he said that his decision not to resign last night was a concession to the chancellor and that he also considers his principles immutable he said henri is reported to have said today that any compromise would force him to bend and that he can't do that so the central question they will be facing in here today is in these discussions is whether mr c. who for his essentially saying that his fate is so tied up with his party's fate that if he were to have to back down he would take the party with him and leave the german government the german coalition all together that in turn could cause the

coalition to fall chancellor merkel's turn to and a new elections to have to be called look at the wider ramifications of that decision go beyond a little local difficulty for the german government. absolutely it does first of all the drama playing out here is the same kind of tension between nationalist populism and multilateral internationalism that we've seen played out in britain around that we've seen played out in the us around trump ism and this in the country that has played an absolutely central role in helping steer europe in the past ten years ever since the financial crisis germany very much at the helm in europe we are out a very turbulent time in international relations never before has there been this level of skepticism and tension about the liberal world order that was
7:12 pm
set up after the second world war never has there been a greater need for stability and leadership in europe and at this very time we're seeing the german government ripping itself apart so yes major international implications and one of the german public hella votes is reacting to this political brinkmanship. and one word exasperated if we look at polls that came out today sixty seven percent of germans say that mr say hope for the interior minister is behaving absolutely irresponsibly sixty nine percent say that they want to see a multilateral european wide approach to migration and looking beyond that we're hearing from germany's leading business newspaper that business leaders are dumbfounded by what's going on in the government so a terrible blow for the government's credibility also here at home. she was able
